A great selection of books! Really greatly curated despite the small selection. The older lady manning the front desk is super sweet too. I would say the only downside is that it was cluttered with boxes (maybe they were stocking or moving merch/shelves around?) so it was hard to move around and really browse comfortable. Other than that downside, I loved it! There is really cheap ($1.00 per hour) public parking right outside as well.

Im currently living in Australia, though Im from Michigan. I contacted Source about a new release that I wanted to send as a gift and they answered all my questions (there were a lot) and even sent me a direct link to it once it was available. I miss shopping there in person, but their online assistance was just as wonderful.

Source Booksellers is a classic Detroit institution. Their wide range of titles, generous and neighborly service, cozy shop interior, pickup and online options, and knowledgeable recommendations make Source my go-to spot for all my book shopping.Janet and Alyson are among the warmest and friendliest faces in the Cass Corridor. More than happy to support a Black-owned, female-owned Detroit bookstore over Mr. Bezos!

Detroit. The Big “D”. Many claim the Motor city as theirs while often denigrating Motown in subtle ways. We know Detroit continues to loose residents yet many relics of it’s glorious past still remain. Historically, in the 1950’s, Detroit was one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Decaying architecture that hasn’t been destroyed like Hudson’s and I do believe Hellas in Greek town is being built a new and renovated, such as; the James Scott Mansion, the Metropolitan bldg., now the classy Element Hotel w a rooftop bar named, The Monarch Club, Wurlitzer bldg., and of course Michigan Central Station, which will be a centerpiece in Corktown. “Not all voices are at the table”, is the constant refrain, thus a certain aptitude is needed if you want to be a part of this city’s design mosaic. Wayne State University and The University of Detroit Mercy are two major employers and would be influencers in D town. These pictures were taken in this part of the bustling Cass Corridor, which had its own “mini” dog park. Cass ave runs parallel w M1 or Woodward. Woodward is a major avenue in Detroit with its own trolly service as seen in picture. A gem on Cass is the Source Booksellers, an independent book store. Locally owned and operated for thirty years and a cultural hub for university students and all D town folks alike. The Kwanzaa celebration for the fourth of seven principles: Ujamaa, or cooperative economics was celebrated in 2018, I was only a year late and didn’t recognize the posted date. I have many relatives all over Detroit. I’ll stop at Source Booksellers, this Indy, organic, personal and compassionate venue, which is always good for the soul. Happy New Year!

I ordered some books online this summer from Source Booksellers and there were some issues with backorders, books getting lost in transit and even an unexplained item showing up instead of my books, but Janet and Alyson went above and beyond to make sure that all my books eventually were shipped to me. Truly the definition of personal customer service! The next time Im in Detroit I cant wait to visit Source Booksellers and hopefully meet them in person. I highly recommend!

I absolutely love this what I would call a literary Community Center. It is way more than a mere bookstore. It is more nonfiction than fiction but every book selected for your possible viewership is more meaningful than the last. You will not go home empty handed or empty brained. Actually talk to people inside the store and trust me you will only find the experience that much more meaningful. Thank you for being part of Detroit and for being like another family :)
