This place is always great. The service is good, they are attentive and make sure you get what you need. The food is consistent. Not the best food, but it tastes good and good variety. I usually go for breakfast and the eggs are always done right, home fries done to your liking (e.g. crispy if you ask for them).

Food portion size is big. The coffee is good. The steak was close to well-done despite requesting for medium and the seasonings is too salty at times.The omelette options are better and nice chicken with waffles too.
Could not eat my food. While we were waiting we saw the woman in the booth behind my brother jump because there was a roach on the wooden frame of the window. She jumped out of the booth and sat on the other side. I guess the roach then moved to the floor of the table behind them because I saw that woman and her husband looking at the floor trying to kick something. Not what you want to see before eating a meal. :(
The portions were large. The food was good. The roaches were not rude at all.
Went with the wife for a late lunch. Disappointing limited menu and no specials. Ordered a broiled JUMBO shrimp entree. Shrimp were very tiny certainly not JUMBO. Wifes entree was very good. Mediocre service so. just an average dining experience

This diner is offering takeout as well as outdoor dining under a tent taking up some of their parking lot. I believe theres about 25 tables being served. The wait line is marked for social distancing. Tables and chairs are sanitized after each use and the staff wear masks and gloves, although I do not know if gloves are changed regularly.Our party of two went for brunch and their brunch menu was printed on the placemats so there would be no sharing of actual menus needing to be sanitized. I thought this was a great idea.The food and service was as good as being inside. The coffee and the omelettes we ordered were delicious. We had a western omelette and a Brooklyn omelette. Both were stuffed and fluffy, accompanied with potatoes and toast. Worth the trip to keep this local diner in business.
This is one of my favorite places to go for a sit-down meal. It usually isnt too busy, so youre able to get your order in a timely manner, and its nice to chat with the waitstaff a bit! I also love that it is a location where you can spend hours and hours of time if you would like, Ive been coming here for years specifically for that relaxed atmosphere. The prices are really good, too!
Easy going diner. I went in for breakfast - scrambled eggs, homefries, toast and coffee no frills. Staff was nice and the food came out fast. One odd thing was the coffee had no free refills it was a charge per cup but other than that the meal was nice
Food very good, service, not so much. Although greeted almost immediately, coffee and water served promptly, order taken and delivered. No check back, no coffee or water refills, dropped the check, processed payment and done.
I dont live by this, I was at a wake and stopped for lunch. It was fast, good quality, fair prices. It was mid- afternoon and I just wanted a snack, I got Calamari, and thats a good test for a diner, cuz thats easy to cook wrong, but I was pleasantly surprised, it was cool near perfect. This is a Real Deal Jersey Diner, with much proven success and I highly recommend!
RACIALLY PROFILED‼️I went to this diner with my friend; sat there for 20/25 mins waiting for a waiter to come to us; to even get our drink orders and no one came to us. Even people that came in after us had their orders taken but everyone acted like they didn’t see us. Mind you, there were 3-4 waiters going back and forth walking past us. They all acted like we were invisible but yet probably didn’t want to take our orders due to the nature of us being the only ones in the diner that was African American. It wasn’t until I said something to one of the waiters that we were here before 2 other customers that she recognized us and wanted to take our orders. At this point, we were uncomfortable and decided to leave; I told the manager about what happened and I felt that nothing was addressed. I would LOVE to give 0 stars for them racially profiling us but unfortunately I can’t.
The Colonial Diner disappointed us this time. We went for breakfast, the server was awful. He never came back to check if we wanted anything else, and we both would have liked a refill of coffee. Instead he came by when we were finishing our breakfast, put the bill on the table and said Im sure you wont want anything else. It was a bad experience and I doubt Ill return.
Really good food. Had the corn beef hash with the little bit of everything breakfast and it was great!
We both had soup which was just ok. My wife had a salad which she said was good but not exceptional. I had corn beef on rye which was ok but not great. Pretty expensive.

I would give 0 stars if possible.. We had a horrible experience at this diner. The food was ok. I did not like my food and did not eat it. The manager asked if they could get me something else, I said no. They took the food away and left it on the check!!! Also, there were flies everywhere! We killed at least 5 at our table alone. We got some crazy excuse that its because people open and close the doors. Needless to say we will not be going back!!
I love this place. Breakfast and lunch are always great and I love trying the huge variety they have on the menu. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by one of the the friendly hostesses to when you sit at a table or the counter you always feel welcome. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. Clean atmosphere, great food and people. I would give Colonial 10 plus stars.
A bit pricey for a diner in my opinion but the food is very very good and the staff is nice as well. Its worth the price.

We truly enjoyed ourselves. The food was yummy. Although the gentleman who wore many hats(host, server, cashier etc) isnt a Mets fan🙂 he was AWESOME. We will be back.
NEVER AGAIN!! I normally do not write reviews but I am making an exception here. Unfriendly staff and terrible food. I ordered a salad with honey mustard. The honey mustard was spicy mustard mixed with honey instead of actually honey mustard. The cucumbers and tomatoes tasted like sink water. My boyfriends syrup had the consistency of water. We barely touched our food. On top of this, some of the staff members occasionally took their masks off when they were right next to a costumer. When I thought it couldn’t get any worse, my boyfriend held his credit card waiting for our waitress to come get it when A WAITER RAN BY AND PULLED IT OUT OF HIS HAND....not even saying anything!!!! We were baffled. First and last time..very disappointing.
First impressions: Nice large diner with plenty of seating. Food was good and most importantly, the coffee was very good too! Nice menu with plenty to choose from. Good service.
My boyfriend and I went here in the morning for some breakfast. Service was fast and the servers took great care of us. They were incredibly accommodating. Point off, because unfortunately, the boyfriend and his omelette that he ordered didnt agree with each other. Other than that, everything was tasty and filling and the staff were super. Would recommend for a decent bite to eat.

I pretty much order greek salads at least once a week from Colonial. I had to leave a review for the ones I got today because they are the most delicious, filled salads I ever ordered. Please whoever made these today, keep makin em! AMAZING.

OMG!! What an awesome time I had here!! It was my first time there and it will not be my last! Whoever was on the grill around 3pm on Sat. 5/8/21 was someone who took pride in how they prepared and presented our food!!!! My omelette was very well prepared and my dates french toast was expertly done!! Our servers Janice and Katherine were the icing on top of it all! We arrived during a shift change, and they both made the transition seamless! Katherine was very attentive and responsive!! I enjoy having to eat at different places and trying new diners!! Colonial Diner may just have set the new standard, and spoiled me rotten at the same time!! I will be back!!😁😁😁

Food was mediocre. The pumpkin pancakes were dense and cooked too fast, hash browns were mushy and the egg white omelet was not egg white. When the food was sent back instead of the manager being understanding or even apologetic, he stated this food was cooked right, we cant just waste food and throw it away. If the paying customer has an issue with the food they shouldnt be approached with the just eat it attitude.
Fantastic food. It was large servings too, no one in our party finished their plate.

Came here for dinner with my team from work.This place was packed! Servers were busy and service times were slow as expected.The food was nothing to write home about. I had fish and chips, decent at best. The rest of the team had a burger, steak, and some sandwiches. Sandwiches were good, burger and steak were not.The salad bar is huge if you are into that kind of thing, but with the sheer volume of people crowded around it we weren’t risking it.Don’t think we would come back again, but no real negative things to say overall.

Grew up in Sayreville and remember eating here as a kid. Been years since Ive been here. My wife & I stop on Friday night 9-18 on the way back to NE PA from a funeral in Freehold. The food was great. Excellent food and service, and great cleanliness procedures everywhere we looked.Beautiful pancakes, fresh fruit, steel cut oats were perfect consistency and I appreciate that the cinnamon and brown sugar were brought in little cups so I could add to my taste. Banana bread was fresh and soft and fantastic. Avocado toast was tasty and eggs cooked just right, but the chilled avocado chilled the whole thing quickly. Regular coffee was fine but nothing special. Next time I will try espresso instead.All staff that touches food or money was in gloves, watched them spray and wipe down the kitchen doors, staff doing good long hand washes. All low key, not making a fuss or show about it, just doing the right things. Makes me confident that things are being run right in the kitchen too.Felt a little pricey but at the end of it all was a decent value.

This place is a little pricy but it’s honestly worth it. I love supporting a local business and the staff is always friendly. The food tastes great and I’ve never been disappointed in their selection and quality. Every time my parents from NY visit we always go here. They love it just as much as we do. I can’t wait until everything officially opens back up again!
My family has been coming to the Colonial diner for over 50 years. We now live in VA but we always stop at the diner to eat.
