This was my first time coming to this diner and was not impressed. The fries were dry and soaked with oil. Even when asking for a new batch..:.it was the same. However, I would say the “City Grill” selection (pastrami sandwich) was “OK”. Not the best as I had better. Staff were super nice with great mannerisms.
I am very impressed by the full bar/unique cocktails at Skylark-cheap drinks made well. I have been going here since I was a kid. It is more upscale for a local diner. The ambiance is nice; there is a huge dining section and another room with a big bar, jukebox, etc. Service is generally swift. As with most diners, there are many options. I got nachos and fish and chips which were pretty good. You can count on this spot to not disappoint when you want a more humble/quick place to eat in town.
It was good but very disorganized. The servers did not know who was taking our table and what drink menu to give us. Kept handing us one from fall saying Sam Adams Autumn was still on tap. The lady who did wind up serving us was great and very friendly. The food was good but to be honest I have had better at other diners. Plus no grilled chicken gyros. I would recommend going and trying it for yourself since it is one of the more unique diners in NJ.
1st time. Wait was about 20min but OMG so worth it! That Shrimp and grits was mmmmm good! Beautifully finessed on the plate. Daughter had the French toast. Never seen French toast so big but happy they make your food plump so you are full half way in and still have left overs. We also had the loaded disco fries. Next time, coming back to try the drinks at the bar. Waiter was super diligent and attentive. Keeping track of all his tables and its guests. He was patient in answering our menu questions. Decor was retro and clean. Almost like the 60s.
I anticipated this diner to be excellent based on the reviews but unfortunately we were underwhelmed by the quality of food we received. The space is lovely and the atmosphere is unique, that part I really enjoyed! When it came to the food though, both my and my partner’s dishes were lukewarm and had errors. He asked for no mushrooms on his sandwich and still received them. One of my poached eggs was completely boiled and the hash browns were so extremely salty that I couldn’t make myself eat more than two bites.Additionally, our waitress didn’t come around so we weren’t able to voice the inconsistencies in our meals. Overall it was just okay, and we won’t be returning here based on this experience.
After not going to the skylark diner for 2 months because of how bad it became, after being our favorite go to place, we decided to try it today. Finally, owners are listening. Eggs cooked perfect, bacon had flavor again and was cooked perfect. White toast was not thin and hard like a rock. Fruit cup was fresh. I hope they are going back to their old menu, with their old chef (who was amazing)!!!!!!! Hope to see their petite filet again, garlic green beans and their great breakfast potatoes that everyone loved and new chef got rid of. I will go back again for dinner and see if the Old Great Skylark is Back!!!!!!
Once a thriving restaurant with long waiting lines, has decayed to few customers, short waiting staff, bad service, absentee management. And the food… stay away from pastas and cuban sandwiches. Stick to burgers and fries. I will definitely think twice to come back and i hope that the owners can turn this around. The bread in the cuban sandwich was backwards.
Me and my partner just came from here and Angie was our server, young beautiful sweetie pie. 💕 she was literally one of the BEST servers me and my partner were served by, we felt so comfortable with her. She was so caring and always checking on. Us at the right time. Made amazing drinks beautiful smiles and good energy! We will be back for her 🥰🥰Thank you Angie 💋
The classic American diner complete with shiny metal surfaces, red chairs and deep booths with juke box audio. The food is fair, fast, and moderately priced. Service is quick and friendly.
Chris was our server, he was awesome! There was no honey mustard-managers should do a better job of ordering. When managers dont do what they are supposed to do, the servers sometimes get blamed....I am a former server/bartender so I know first hand. Again, Chris did a good job and he was very personable....he gets 5 stars....Skylark gets 3.
I have been to this Diner before actually multiple times, its kind of our go to after our night shifts. I love the food but I do not think I will be going back.Servers: Always professional & nice (5/5)Atmosphere: It is always a vibe, nice place for any wave of people (5/5)Food: drinks are strong, they are a little slow with bringing out the meals. Food is good otherwise (1/5) - my reason for giving a 1/5 is because today I received uncooked food, and when they tried to fix it, they brought it back with a bug attached to my pancakes. Thank goodness the manager took the meal off of the bill. It would have been a nice courtesy if the Manager came to the table to apologize and give their sincerity since I was not able to eat.I would recommend going for the drinks and the good atmosphere, but be cautious with your food, as you would anytime you go out.
The food is good. But the orders kept getting mixed up . A little annoying. Also the parking sucks.
Short on staff and dining utensils/cups. Waitress had to find glasses and cups. Took a while for food and drinks to come, even just the lemon water but once it did, everything was ok once we kept reminding what was not on the table. Pork sausage tasted freezer burned tho...
Love this place! Over the years, weve watched it change a few times and I believe it is the best now. Their French toast is awesome and portions are definitely large! The service is wonderful as well.
One of my favorite places. Always great food, drinks are good, overall good service and very good price point.
Angie was the absolute best! So respectful, such a sweetheart. Best waitress there, kept coming back asking us if we needed anything! Go to this diner and lounge and grab her as your waitress!!
Great diner food for the price! Everything came out fast and the portion sizes were generous. Chicken pot pie had a great crust and smooth gravy and juicy chicken. The pancakes are nice and fluffy with crispy bacon. Gravy fries didnt have enough gravy though, and the cheese was melted all in one piece. The calamari had a crisp crust and chewy inside.Service was good and the food didnt take too long for a large party.Car parking is free and plentiful.
It was a wonderful experience coming back to this diner after having been away more than 10 years, seeing great friends who I used to frequent here with. It was quite busy on a Sunday for brunch, which seemed to have no effect on the wait.I was thoroughly pleased with the service, atmosphere and of course the food during this tumultuous time has remained decently good. Our servers (apologetically I do not recall their names) were very personable and one even aided my daughters (who are 7 & 5) with the restroom. We were apparently having such a great time that our waitress did not want to interrupt us and we had to flag her down when we were ready for the check, which was surprisingly lower than I expected.
Not sure why this diner is ranked as a great place to get diner food. I ordered basic items (burger and fries) and they were not as tasty as I am accustomed to from a diner. Never have I ever had tasteless fries and some popular diner items were not included on the menu, like a Happy Waitress. Sorry, not sorry, I will not eat here again.
The food at the Skylark is best characterized as inconsistent. It might be time to retire the this-is-a-diner-thats-not-really-a-diner gimmick, and pick an identity and stick with it. My breakfast of western omelet/home fries/toast, seltzer, and coffee was adequate but mediocre; the gloppy, overly-salted home fries were utterly inedible. The staff and atmosphere were pleasant enough, but for $24.00 I think the food quality could have been better.
First time visiting this location for brunch and will definitely come back. Great atmosphere, good food and service.
Okay experience. Hash browns were undercooked and with a cheese omelet they gave one slice of raisin bread and one slice of white bread. Extremely unusual since the waitress never asked what type of bread I wanted.Other people at my table got pancakes and french toast in a hot skillet that looked very good.My meal however was average at best.
I had Angie as my server. She was the best. Came here with the whole family and she was super attentive and kind. This place is great. Food was amazing as always.
This place was way more then I expected... Service appearance and taste were all top shelf.. looks like they take pride in service....
It was decent. Atmosphere was nice. Their cappuccino was great. But my husbands shaved prime ribs was basically a poor excuse for a cheese steak... it was 70% onions n mushrooms. Almost no meat at all!
Dish water glasses, but the breakfast was extraordinary.
It was disappointing. We havent been there in years and we read online that they were remodeling in two days, so Im sure that why the place looked a little dusty. Hoping for a fresh clean look! I had the organic chicken. The chicken was a little dry, but the green beans were delicious! My husband was disappointed with his order of fried cod. He said there was too much breading. Well, good luck Skylark, hope the remodeling will bring back the diner that we used to know!
Nice Diner, went for lunch with my wife and daughter. Very disappointed. Wife ordered half a chicken. It was about a quarter of a chicken for a full chicken price. Need to fix the menu. Said something to the waiter who was apologetic and nice. Portions were very small.
Great food as usual. Music selection was great and not loud. Cocktails on point.
Food was too greasy, some salty, and some tasted days old and bland. We ordered a variety of food, from pancakes to burgers, to soup, and salad. On one of the platters we told the waitress about, and she apologized. Friendly staff, but a bit unprofessional. PDA amongst 2 workers was visible throughout the time we were there. Located on a very busy traffic road.
The ambience is good. I visited this place with my friend. We had ordered chicken wings as starters and Moscow mule along with it. Both were too good. For entrees though I did not enjoy ribeye. It had less juice inside it. My friend has ordered salmon and that too was not tasty. So in all I would give 4 stars. The lady who took care of serving drinks and food was great and provided excellent service.
A wonderful experience. The food and drinks are worth savoring and the service is great.
I still owe breakfast I had at the bar because I wasnt able to pay because I couldnt transfer the money into the account on good timing on my way to work a few mornings ago. When I went to pay a few days later the waitress was not working at the time but she trusted I would pay another day. Delicious breakfast at the bar early morning... Thanks...
Foods are so so, my silverware was dirty. During the pandemic, everyone is worrying about cleanness, especially the restaurant.
I really enjoyed myself because of the my friends. the food was delicious. the service was OK/unprofessional. it wasnt that bad I just wasnt used to waiters handed me food across the table... Why not bring the food around and give each individual their plates.. why pass it across the table when theyre 5 or more people... That was weird for me. Other than that. you would have got all stars the service not great
Waitressing was good but the food was very disappointing. I ate there with my father for breakfast on July 1st 2021 after their bar remodeling. I ordered their cinnamon French toast with pork sausage and I was very upset. It tasted like they soaked the bread in butter did a quick sear on both sides and then sprinkled cinnamon on them. My father ordered a simple two eggs with pork sausage and home fries. The home fries were watery, granted the waitress did ask us if we wanted them well done upon ordering but we did not think they would come out like that if we didn’t get them well done. His toast was not even toasted properly the bread was still soft, it wasn’t even a tan color just white which is just bread not toast. Sadly we both did not like the taste of the pork sausage but that is our opinion not the chefs fault. We will not be eating there again I’m sorry.
Super cute!!! It felt like i was on the set of saved by the bell.. From the time you park you feel like you went back in time. With its 80s side of the road Diner but with a twist of modern architect. It was weirdly welcoming seeing that im 27. The staff were all pleasant and warm all of them in matching plaid shirts. Which i thought made the experience more authentic and nostalgic. Our server matt was amazing as well as the breakfast sandwich!! Highly recommend!!
Went for dinner with wife. Food was excellent. Unfortunately the waiter was non present. We go diner hopping often and this was the worst service weve had. Waiter never came and had to wait around for check. Place is very nice and will give it another try in a few months
This place was remarkable!! My wife and I came during lunch time on Saturday afternoon. Wait was only 10/15 minutes. The place is open, colorful, bright and vibrant! Our server, Ruth was astonishing. Super friendly, very attentive and gave us a good recommendation.Food was great,Atmosphere was great,Service was great,Will definitely be back!
Its a very good diner. It appeared on the Food Networks Diners, Drive-in and Dives with Guy Fieri. Excellent breakfast menu as well as lunch. They do serve dinner. They have a full bar which is located within the restaurant. Had eaten there as well as for bar drinks only. It did work for me. While I enjoy breakfast and lunch I did not like being near the bar. Same goes for when you want a Cocktail. Ample parking but getting in and out of the parking lot will be a challenge.
Skylark is a rather unusual diner with contemporary art deco look. Not open 24 hours. They have a liquor license and a large lounge area.Good breakfast spot. Great omelets and fresh squeezed orange juice.Parking can be tough, really inadquate. Lunch and dinner are hit or miss. The quality of the food has gone down considerably post pandemic. Sad, because it used to be one of the better diners in the area. Now its one of the worst.
Even though we are Hispanic, they treated us super well excellent restaurant deserves 5 stars
Service is great. What was not great was finding that they were out of menu items and that I did not get what was advertised on the menu. The best part of the Fried Chicken Benedict is the awesome biscuit. Getting a plain english muffin instead was dissapointing to say the least.
Awesome everything! From breakfast to dinner to late night snack this place has it all .
I went there to have a breakfast in the weekend with my wife and was very disappointed with the service. The place was pretty busy however they didn’t have enough staff to serve the customers. The wait for a table was 30-45 mins so we decided to sit at the bar. We sat there for almost 20 minutes waiting for our coffee then I called the waiter who advised they didn’t put the order in yet and he asked to take it again. When I asked how long would the food take, his response shocked me “we have to feed all of these people so you will have to wait” Excuse me!! you are not feeding me out of your pocket!!!!We decided to leave after 30 minutes of waiting for nothing.I’m not sure if I will give it another try!
Always quick and friendly service. Food is notches above your regular diner.
Good food at reasonable prices. Limited menu for a jersey diner though. They dont even have wraps on the menu and only and a few types of sandwiches. Anyone from jersey knows that diner menus are Usually about 6 pages long double sided. This one was one large double sided page. Try out Teaneck Diner. Thats one of the best.
Breakfast date with the hubby. This place has really tasty homefries and french toast. We kept it light and simple and we were totally satisfied, however it is a bit pricey. I ordered 2 eggs with toast and homefries and that cost around 10.50, in another diner it would have cost me 5.50 with 3 eggs instead of 2, granted Skylark has better homfries but you pay the price for it. I will definitely recommend coming here at least once.
I ordered 2 meals for $50 and Lloyd didn’t get a drink along with the missing add-ons I payed extra for my food portions were terrible 😢 anyways drove past this place now Ima keep on driving past 🤦🏽♂️
We gave this place a chance despite the very mixed reviews. Do yourself a favor and DON’T make the same mistake we did. I came here with my fiancé and even he thought the food was horrendous. He is the least picky person and NEVER complains. He got the fish tacos and said they were the worst fish tacos he ever had in his life. He said the taco shells were stale and there was no flavor in the dish whatsoever. I didn’t try them but the fact that he of all people would make that comment speaks VOLUMES. I had the huevos rancheros that allegedly came with a black bean and ham hash. Not only was the dish something I could have EASILY made a million times better with my eyes closed when I am not a professional chef, there were no black beans in the “hash” and the potatoes were literally ROCK hard. There was ZERO flavor. The eggs, cheese and salsa were barely edible. This was just an all over terrible dish. We ordered sweet potato fries that were decent but cold. The onion rings were ok. The disco fries did not even come as specified and were just cafeteria fries covered in cheese. My fiancé was intent on wanting to try this place due to his intrigue in seeing it when we drive by. I actually went once prior to the pandemic and thought the food was decent. I have no idea what happened to this place or how they justify serving the food they serve. Don’t give it a chance. Save your money. Certainly my sixty dollars could have gone elsewhere. I will say the huevos racheros were taken off the bill but only after I mistakenly thought the waitress was giving me a box for them and I told her there was no way I was interested in taking those home. Perhaps she is used to people not eating their food but I do think waiters should ask if they see full plates (especially when I’m 9 months pregnant). She did take them off but made the comment that the box wasn’t even for me. She should have asked on her own. So now I need to buy food elsewhere. LAST time I will EVER patronize this place.
We had been today July 18th for our sons birthday with family and had so much expectations, but unfortunately looks like they had some air conditioning issues and felt horrible inside, particularly when waiting for food for longer period. Understand we were 10 of us and could take time to prep food, but due to ac issues felt the wait too long.
I come here on Mondays occasionally from south jersey when I visit my mom and I NEVER had a bad meal here!!!! I had the mash potatoes and grilled vegetables and it was so on point, I did not even need the butter that came with it on the side or any salt or pepper for my vegetables!! This is a laid back but classy diner. The waiter Jarod who has waited on us a couple of visits previously, is super friendly and a great addition to this place as well as the rest of the staff. Highly recommend this place!!!
Foods are OK, during the pandemic, their silverware is not clean enough, need to aware and improve.
Everything was good service was good had the huevos ranchers and fried chicken benedict. One thing I would like mention as previous reviewers had mentioned the fried chicken benedict is suppose to come with a biscuit as stated on he menu not a English muffin, while not a big deal I was expecting a biscuit
I’m so disappointed. Worst experience tonight.Ran out of Louis Martini wine. Ran out of onion rings.Really? Onion rings. Ordered chicken and rice soup. Not one piece of rice in either soup. Ordered tuna on rye, it came on white bread. Ordered a side of Mayo which we are still waiting for and I’m home. Ordered extra syrup but the waiter was too busy talking to another table. Table next to us ordered cannolis. Guess what? They ran out.
I’ve come here a few times the breakfast is amazing they have really great options and they have a new avocado toast that is amazing. Service is always very nice and attentive. Great for family brunch or a cute breakfast date.
Great service and spacious seating!!! The shrimp and grits were amazing!!!
We had a very enjoyable breakfast, I forgot our servers name but she was very prompt and courteous. Even the manager stopped by to see that everything was OK. I really liked the speciality toast they serve, has raisins and cranberries in it, if they sold it in a bag to go Id definitely take a loaf to go! The food was very good and pricing was quite reasonable.
We have been coming here for over 15 years. This was our go to diner in New Jersey. Recently and since the pandemic some. Of our favorite items like the Skylark Salmon and the Waldorf Chicken salad was removed from the menu. They used to have a policy that if something was removed from the menu the restaurant would accommodate. Now according the the Chef who I believe is new “Absolute No Substitutions”.
Very good food, real people service, has to be one of the nicest places to eat. Very cool atmosphere
We go to the Skylark often. Today changed that. My kids asked for breakfast for dinner so off to the Skylark we went. The food was outstanding as usual. I get the check and it seems abnormally high. Then I see it. My 3 kids each had 2 glasses of apple juice. The check reads 6 glasses .....$33 My head almost exploded. I questioned the waitress who apologized but confirmed the pricing.I could have bought 5 gallons of apple juice. Are you friggin serious??????The Skylark just lost a long time customer. Sad to say.
The food tasted great and it is not overpriced. The server was also nice and attentive. Restroom was clean. Really good experience for a diner.
Worst diner experience of my life. Its more of a diner for tourists with not much on the menu. They brought my wife milk in a dirty cup. No utensils. Had to wait forever for our food. They forgot the hashbrowns. The steak was horrible and I was given a butter knife to cut the steak. They forgot the salt and ketchup and all we got was an apology. Stay away!!!!
Nice breakfast! Omeletes are so yammy!
Food was amazing and R&B/Hip-Hop music
Nice place. Good food with a fun atmosphere.
Pretty decent menu food came out in a timely manner server was so so (I sat at the bar and to be fair she was full )Other than waiting on my coffee for ten minutes pretty solid place though beer selection though........no porters
The food was fine and the service tip-top. This is a very nice diner, that even takes reservations. The enormous open-ended tent makes outdoor dining safe during COVID. The best Reese’s pieces milkshake, a great Impossible Burger, and a crab cake Benedict with generous crab cake portions.
I was initially skeptical because the reviews were a mixed bag of chips but we had a great experience. We celebrated a friends 50th Birthday last night. Tina, our server, was EXCELLENT! She gave us our space but was very attentive to our needs. The temperature in the diner was comfortable and the ambiance appropriate for the occasion.Unfortunately we ate our food then boxed the leftovers before I realized I didnt take any pics. The food however was fresh, flavorful and portioned well. The birthday girl had Penne w/shrimp. She asked for extra sauce and Parmesen cheese. I had the Chicken Pad Thai w/ NO peanuts. The other ladies had: Chicken Parmesen (the chicken was huge), Breakfast skillet and Ribeye sandwich, which Tina recommended be cooked to medium. When Tina brought dessert to the Birthday girl, she began to sing and the other (really nice and friendly) waiters joined in the singing. We stayed beyond closing, which was super kind of the manager. Many restaurants are short on staff. Those who show up for work are working long hours and doing the best they can under the circumstances. I think that it is really important, particularly during these challenging times, that we TIP WELL, EXTEND GRACE & BE KIND to anyone providing a service
Classic Jersey style dinner. Amazing, friendly, accommodating staff. Delicious fresh food served in generous portions. Appropriately priced menu, definitely well worth every dime!
Ordered for four plus 3 year old. Pastrami on rye low on meat, somewhat dry. Vegi-burger mediocre.Reuben on rye ok nothing special. Big salad for fourth was good. Kids dish scrambled eggs with hash browns. Hash browns more like potato pancake. Seemed everything over priced for Mothers day. Better food at home
Good food. Service was fine. waitress was helpful.
Great food and service, and not expensive at all.
Food was ok. Service was fine. I had the steak with fries and asparagus. Try something else. The chocolate shake was good. The selection of soda is Pepsi products only :(
I always have good experiences at this place. Valentines day was no different. Had a nice ladys brunch and from the service, to the food, to the cleanliness, everything was phenomenal. Mimosas were made perfectly. Zero complaints.
I really have to commend Joe, the manager, and Jerrod, our server, for their professionalism on Mothers day. Our party of 9 people were seated within 15 minutes of our arrival and our orders came within 20 minutes. I am so glad that we chose the Skylark to bring the two mothers in our group after a long period of quarantine.
I love this place, fresh squeezed OJ, homemade blueberry pancakes worth the stop !!!!!
Very busy and very delicious!! My toddler loved my Quesadilla Burger and the fruits for the Waffles were sweet and fresh
Great staff, Breakfast was not to good.
