Jay did an awesome job setting up my Telecaster! It’s playing and sounding great. Thanks!
This shop is great because stock is amazing from lower models to super high end guitars and basses. And owner Jay is very friendly and super nice 👍👍👍
Great shop these guys no what there doing hands down. They fix my Parker bass and now it plays like a dream. I also had them fix my 1979 fender precision bass. When I pick up at the bass at the store it play like a dream like first time I bought it in 1980. The store is awesome and I like the way they handle the customer. Jay explained everything in detail. Telling me exactly what it was going to cost and what he was going to do with the bass before he started. I highly recommend them for any service you need.
If you are a left handed player, this is where you wanna be. This guy has a bunch of quality used lefties...unlike other stores, you can try a few and make an actual decision and have an actual choice.
Awesome shop! Well worth the 1 hour drive from Ocean County. After scouring local guitar shops and online listings, I was finally able to find a reasonably priced fretless bass. Jay was wonderful to deal with...extremely friendly, knowledgeable guy who takes care of each customer personally. Get yourself one of their t-shirts while youre there. Old school cool.
The best place to get your new instrument!! Jay is the most knowledgeable, kind, true musician out there! He makes sure you’re comfortable with whichever instrument you choose. And all of his instruments are tuned and in perfect shape. Great prices and a great store owner. You’ll be happy you went🎶
This place is top notch! I had purchased a bass and a few amps here many years ago and only recently came back in to buy another amp. Their selection was top notch! The kind of attention and help that you get in this store is unmatched by any other music store. Very happy with the amp!! 10/10 would recommend.
This place is right out of a guitar players dream! The wall to wall guitars and basses, the kindness of the staff and the comfort I experienced in shopping with my son....whos a LEFTY! By far the largest lefty stock Ive ever seen in one store! You could add up all the lefty guitars from every Guitar Center in NJ and it STILL wouldnt compete with this place! That said... Thank you! My son LOVES his lefty Les Paul!
This is my new favorite guitar and bass store. As a lefty, its always tough to find lefty gear. This place has over 70 lefty bass and guitars. Whether you want a Fender, Music Man, or even a Dingwall - this place had it. Set up on my bass was done on site and I could be happy with my new Fender Jazz.
NJ Guitar and Bass is truly a hidden gem. I first came here in 2013 in search of a Dingwall bass and they had the exact one I wanted in stock. I recently stopped by to pick up a MIM Telecaster and was instantly reminded of how awesome this place is. Jay (the owner) is also one of the nicest people Ive ever met. Check this place out if you havent already.
This is easily one of the most badass guitar stores on the east coast and possibly the whole country! The owner is a really cool and relaxed guy with a ridiculous amount of unique and high caliber inventory. If youre looking for the mecca, look no further! Prices are super reasonable and selection is difficult to compare to anywhere. Give this dude your money $$$
Best guitar shop in New Jersey. Truly a rare find full of truly rare finds! And Jay is as friendly and knowledgeable as they come! Great shop run by a great guy.
Great service. They update the website daily. I wanted to put my fingers on the boards of some 35 5 strings and some fanned frets. They had plenty in stock and Im ready to buy from them soon as I can afford to. Thumbs up!
I’ve bought 26 instruments from Jay so far. There is no better place to find a unique bass. The web guy is pretty cool, too. ;-)
Crowded place but Jay did a great job setting up my PRS. Price was competitive and service was friendly.Thanks.
This spot has always been great, I just brought my bass to get serviced and wound up buying a new 5 string for a good price. If you need gear come here
My instincts around people tend to be more accurate than not. Being not a spring chicken in age, deciding to take up Guitar at this point in my life was a bit intimidating. I needed to feel encouraged and supported ASAP less I stop before I even got started! Well I got both from my first visit to NJGBC and meeting Jay. I was able to get my first guitar, and sign up for my first set of lessons all in one day. That day I also had the pleasure of meeting Alejandro, one of the instructors, and I knew (Alex as I came to call him) would be perfect for me, and he has been exactly that. Thank You Jay and Alex for helping me to believe in, and continue my journey of music. Not only singing, but learning to be part of the wonderful creation of music via the guitar. Once again my instincts were accurate, and did not let me down Jay and Alex are top shelf professionals!
So I have had this old 60s Fender Jazz bass since i was 15 years young. I have never, ever, left it anywhere for anyone to work on. That said, Jay is a very special person and the only person to ever get his hands on it for anything. The fret dressing he did is simply dazzling, the intonation spot on, plus new strings. Its like Christmas all over again. He has transformed an already great machine into a fully wonderful smooth player. Really if you need/want a special guitar, bass, or work done on your baby, go to this man. Life is short. Get it done.
I just picked up a Dingwall bass from this place. I received excellent service. This place has a great selection of basses you will not find in any GC. I will definitely shop here again even though it is a 2 hour drive. Well worth it!
I had my Stratocaster set up here. Jay was very kind and he did an exceptional job setting up my guitar. Highly recommend!
Best guitar in NJ. Jay is a great dude. He is super knowledgable, cares about the customers and will take care of you. Fantastic selection of new and used. The place is packed wall to wall and floor to ceiling with guitars. Prices are really good, especially on used equipment. Go here and get a high quality used guitar or bass rather than spending more money at one of the chain stores. They also give more credit for used instruments. The selection is wider and the prices are better. Ive bought 5 guitars from here (Just bought a Ric 360 today) and it will always be my go to place. This is what all retail stores should be like, passionate people doing what they love and doing right by the consumer!
This place is simply amazing. If you are serious about buying a good quality instrument at any level, this is the place to do so. Doing business with Jay is an absolute pleasure. Buying from someone with this much knowledge ensures that you will walk out of the store with what you want for the right price. I have been here three times for the following:1) I purchased a 1970s harmony guitar, very nice trem system and pickups. Not my main guitar but fun to have as an option. Jay gave me a rundown of the history of these guitars, which was very interesting!2) I purchased a J Mascis Squire Jazzmaster (pictured). This guitar was advertised as mint and I’ll tell you it absolutely was. Not a single ding or scratch on either the all white body or the anodized aluminum pickguard. This thing was so beautiful, but I was sold as soon as I started playing it in the shop. Wonderfully set up, and such a beautiful sound. I still can’t put it down!3) I had an ovation guitar that I bought online. The frets began to buzz in the cold dry climate (bought a humidifier on Jay’s recommendation). I brought this guitar to him in rough shape, hoping he could breathe some life back into it. He initially told me it would be cost ineffective to do the repair, which was what I feared; however, after continuing to work on it, Jay called me back and told me he was able to do the repair! This is where you can tell that this is a business that truly cares for the customer. Most would have returned the instrument without a second glance. The guitar now plays wonderfully and sounds great. If you are like me and find yourself making more music during these times, please do yourself a favor and make an appointment at the shop.
Just found the best local music store in NJ! Brought my telecaster in for some new strings and couldn’t be more happy with the service.Got to meet Jay the owner and I could tell he knows his stuff. He also has the best selection of vintage guitars I’ve seen. When my guitars need service, this will be the place.Jay is also one of the nicest guys in the business.5 star business!
Great place. Got my bass serviced, extremely happy with the quality and speed of the work. Will be returning in the future
The service was very good and I learned how to install the battery into my tuner. The owner is very friendly and engaging and I would highly recommend the store to anyone.
One of the great Old Time guitar stores in New Jersey. Jay, the owner has a fantastic array a wonderful instruments and hes a fountain of information as well. I love the vibe of the store as its jam-packed with great instruments and interesting people. I highly recommend a visit to this unique store!!!
Amazing service and selection.
Great service! Bought my left handed fender MIM telecaster and my left handed seafoam green Danelectro 59 here.
This place is way beyond congested. A dumping yard of instruments. There is no moving space for more than one or two customers at a time. I was one step away from buying the guitar from them after spending 15 -20 minutes in the shop. But I ended up headed out to Guitar Center just because of the wrong attitude of the person who was in charge of billing.
Was not following Covid-19 protocols
I recently brought in a guitar here for a set up and was more than pleased with the experience. Jay examined my guitar, pointed out everything that needed adjusting, walked me through his process and provided me with an appraisal on the spot. The guitar was ready in a matter of days and sounds better than ever. Jay does great work and provides a wonderful customer experience. If you’re in need of repair/set up or in the market for gear, definitely check this place out.
Very good service. Nothing bad to say but there was ample amounts of water damage on the ceiling and walls. I dont know how that affects the guitars but I doubt its good. I liked what I saw choice wise. Lots of variety.
Small space, lots of vintage gear. Jay is a welcoming and knowledgeable guy.
This place is amazing. I spoke with the owner and he took the time to explain everything step of my repair to me. I think I picked the right place for a refret and setup. Very reasonable prices and incredible deals on a huge inventory of guitars. Much better pricing than others. I definitely recommend stopping in.
Great selections.
Great old school vibe, rare remaining privately owned music store. Owner was in a little bit of a hurry to close but still very helpful.
I bought 2 eletric Bass, and all support need was done in a very professional way. 100% recommended, serious service.
What a nice little music shop! Plenty of classic guitars for sale owner was friendly and helpful bought a nice bass amp at a nice price! Happy to support small businesses compared to chain stores
First visit. Got strings and 1/4 inch jack. Great friendly but quiet service. Small place neatly packed with guits, plus. I dont live close but Id make the trip to shop there if they have what I need👍
So glad I found this place and Jay the owner. His knowledge of guitars is incredible. The two guitars I brought in for a tune up are playing like new. He brought them back to life. Jay is a rare breed who takes pride in his craft. Very fast service too. Thanks Jay.
Awesome place! I wish I had discovered this earlier. This tiny store will defy your expectations. Jay, the owner, will give you the most personalized shopping experience you could ever want, but without pressuring you to buy. And the selection is amazing! There is an unbelievable amount of guitars and basses packed in this little store. Jays bass selection blows that of any guitar center out of the water. Go buy and show Jay some support; you wont regret it.
Jay is a great guy! He really appreciates his customers and is always there to help!
I love this place. The owner is really cool. Good prices and good instruments. Small but full of good stuffs. I will recommend it to all my musician friends!
Jay knows his stuff. Best music store in Jersey.
Came by for a 1/4 inch cable and met Jay the owner. Store has been here for 36 years and I can see why. Customer-centric and friendly with amazing prices. Will be coming here again for some bass strings and more. Thanks again Jay!
Great selection. Jay is very knowledgeable. Guitar service work was very good.
Great selection of guitars. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. Competitive pricing, but they do upcharge for credit card purchases. The store interior is a little cramped due to amount of guitars available. I purchase a guitar from them, and encourage everyone to check them out.
Lots and lots of used guitars and bass, good prices, I have bought many guitars and mandolins from Jay he has mandolins and ukuleles also. He buys instruments also, you wont get top price for your instruments if you sell them to Jay thats the reason for my 4 stars.
Best experience ive had at a guitar store. Ive been to a couple and this is by far my favorite one. The owner is very lovely and helped me right away and was so sweet to me! By far the best customer service experience ive ever received anywhere
Small shop packed with lots of great equipment. This is a landmark in the area and has been around for decades.
Love it! Jays excellent and a true musicians friend.
Dealing with Jay almost 25 years with greatdeals and service!
Great guitar. Thanks, Jay!
I bought a Fender Squier Vintage modified Jazz Bass (left handed) today at New Jersey Guitar & Bass Center. Let me tell you, the shop might be small but the experience was just absolutely wonderful. Jay, the owner, was so helpful and sweet he made the expericence so great. They have lots of cool gear here, from old vintage stuff to modern gear. The left-handed selection here is one of the best Ive seen. They have so much left handed selection of gear I feel like for once, I dont feel left out (no pun intended). I recommend this shop 100 times over to anyone. Youll love the experience here!
Rude. I would like to help sml local biz instead of going to big chain. but big diff on how they handle people.
Awesome selection of left handed guitars. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Recommended.
A warm and friendly place for guitarists. Left handers are welcome, a rarity in my experience. A great place for beginner and advanced guitarists.
This has hot to be the best guitar shop I have ever been too!
Jay was awesome very knowledgeable. He helped me with a used guitar I bought for my husband and they have everything I could possibly need in guitars
Great variety of guitars. The owner is very friendly. He lets you play the guitars and answers any questions.
Amazing guitars and great prices with an awesome salesman!
Check this spot if you are interested in rare guitars!
The best selection of bass guitars in NJ. Jay is always accommodating and helpful!
Awesome, start to finish! Jayski is a class act! (G&L SB-2 Bass)
Jay is the Guru Owner of this establishment. If you are a left handed bass player, you will think you died and went to heaven. Tread lightly, (extremely lightly) once inside however. You will be in the Twilight Zone of Guitars & Basses. Hofners, Rickenbackers, MMs, Mods, Fenders,Warwicks, Lacklands, Gibsons.. They are everywhere. Be careful or you will definitely trip over them. The path is narrow in heaven...
Very tight walk area. Has alot of vintage guitars that are expensive and you are afraid you will damage them.
Great selection of vintage and collectables.
Very friendly and helpful staff, but the space is cramped, and I was afraid of knocking over some very expensive guitars.
Local and amazing selection.
A Fender here, a Rickenbacker there
Nice instruments
Nice guy
Always great
Good variety of guitars
