I usually frequent the Towson location as it is right around the corner from my house, however drove to the Ellicott City location to pick up a bike for my daughter. I called ahead and placed the bike on hold as I would be in shortly. When I arrived I was greeted by Mark who had the bike waiting. He made a few minor adjustments to the hand brakes and made sure everything was working properly. He did a phenomenal job connecting with me and other customers before me. Thanks for the bike!

Finally broke down and admitted I needed a new bike and they had exactly what I was after, really a great selection for a brick and mortar shop. The bike came with a complementary basic bike fit session, which was well worth any premium you might pay for buying local. I wont name the fitter in case he doesnt want the public exposure, but he was profoundly knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. Definitely felt I was getting much more than I was paying for and so far the changes he suggested have been working out great. Id recommend buying from this shop for the bike fit alone, even if the rest of the service experience werent as good as its been. Feels great to like where my moneys going for once!

While my husband has been to Race Pace before, this was my first time. It was a great experience. Annemarie was fantastic. She found the perfect bikes for my twins (one new, one used). They were able to take them for test rides in the parking lot. She adjusted the seats for the perfect fit. Got two new helmets, water bottles and a bike rack as well. Annemarie helped us load everything in the van and we donated three old bicycles as well. Everyone was wearing masks and being respectful.

I walk in a bit nervous cos some of my bike store visits at other places have had staff that speaks bikenese only, and some have been condescending. It makes me want to leave and never go back unless its an emergency. This was ABSOLUTELY the reverse at Race Pace! :)Race Pace is a place my father and I would go when I was a kid. Im 41 now. I walked in a bit ashamed cos the bike I have was given to me, and its too small, but its what I got. The front break was thrashed from mountain biking I suppose.Evan was super cool with me, didnt roll an eye, and helped me get the parts that was only necessary cos of my financial situation (cant wait for the day I can afford a proper fitting mountain bike!!!). He also gave me a quick tutorial of what I would need to do since I decided to fix it on my own to save cash. I walked out of there, put the bike in my moms car, and told her That place is just like when I was a kid with Dad. They were always nice, and always overly helpful. Other businesses (especially bike shops) should take note.Thank you Race Pace for being a constant positive experience over the years, and my father would be saying thank you from above.Evan, rock on man. Thank you!

Theres a lot of good things I can say about Race Pace Bicycles. Friendly employees, awesome hours (one of the only places to get bike parts thats open on Sunday!) and good selection of new bikes AND gear to maintain your own.One of the things that stood out to me when I visited was their willingness to make sure I was able to get back on the road, even if they didnt have exactly what I was looking for at their store. This makes it clear to me that everyone at Race Pace is passionate about bicycles and bicycling and isnt necessarily just looking to make money. With this trust and respect, I plan to be a customer of Race Pace for a long long time.

I am a long time customer of race pace bicycles. Going back about 9 years when I rediscovered the cycling fun. About a week ago, I hit a deer riding NCR trail with my family, crashing the bike and starting a rather long recovery process. Took it to RP Ellicott city for visual inspection, truing and tune. Bike was ready on Wednesday, a solid 2 weeks earlier. Nick explained how they checked the frame and handlebar using sound vibrations and limits of visual inspection.Today, I decided to get some upgraded wheels, and I worked with Dave for a good 1.5 hours checking availability looking for rotors and new freehub body. Getting additional feedback from most other service techs as well. Thank You, Everyone, ar RPEC, for being there and providing a great service. Your great work speaks for itself.

Brought my Fuji 3 speed beach bike in for gear repair and was treated with respect by the staff that I haven’t seen in a very long time. They really appreciate their customers. Evan looked over my bike, fixed the problem quickly. I added a new seat and some accessories to the bike and made it like new. Ann Marie assisted me with a Saris 2 bike rack set-up now I feel comfortable putting my bike on the rack for outings. The whole team has the store down to a science. They work on serious high end competition bikes with skill and professionalism to keep your bike in top performance shape.

While I was out running errands today I decided to take a chance and go to the Race Pace bike shop in Ellicott City Md, I prayed the whole way there and asked God to please let them have a cruiser bike for me. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Monica, Well today was my lucky day!!!! I told her what I wanted and she showed me two cruiser bikes, I chose the Silver one because I’m a Die Hard Cowboys fan! Monica also showed me helments, bells, phone holders, and so much more!! Ann Marie was also amazing showing me different merchandise. I’m going to be honest, I had a terrible experience in the Columbia store and I’m so glad that I came to this location. The shop is nice and well equipped, but the customer service is lacking. I had them assemble two bikes (the same model in different sizes). The projected time to assemble was 48 hours, but they werent ready until over a week later. This wasnt really an issue, however, as I wasnt in a huge rush. However, when I made it to the store to try out the bikes, I couldnt decide which size to go with. The employee I worked with said you look fine on both. When I asked which he would recommend, he said he was more familiar with mountain bikes and didnt have much experience sizing road bikes. So, I asked if I could speak with someone who had more experience. He tried asking a coworker for help, but the coworker said he was too busy. Then, he asked another employee for help, who told me that you should always go with the size that puts the bigger smile on your face.I completely understand that, with the current pandemic, things are busy right now. But, there were only about two other customers in the store when I went, and I would expect a little more guidance when making a purchase as big as this one.Additionally, Im not sure who (if anyone) tuned the rear derailleur during assembly, but it had trouble shifting appropriately when I bought it. It works perfectly fine after spending some time adjusting it.

Ive always been impressed by Race Pace, but today Im extra impressed by how theyre handling social distancing. This was the first time Ive taken a bike in to be serviced, so I didnt know what to expect, but there were clear signs indicating where to stand and how to social distance. Once I got inside everyone was pleasant, friendly, and calm. Fortunately they were able to take care of my kids bike within 15 minutes because if it had needed more extensive service, the soonest appointment would have been late July.I arrived a few minutes before opening and was second in line, so I was seen quickly. When I left there wasnt a line.

Great service that does not nickel and dime you on repairs. If they have a backlog of repairs they find a way to accommodate you and get you back on the road. Staff is friendly, informative and take time to explain you what you need to know. Same for the sale staff, they sold us what we needed not what we wanted. Having the right bike really helped and stopped us from overspending to only end up regretting our purchase. Will be back to buy more from them.

The Staff At The Ellicott City location was very friendly and they really helped a novice like me out on figuring what I wanted and needed in a MTB and on my final MTB decision. I purchased a Marlin 6 XXL from the Key Highway location on 1/26/21 but I had not rode it yet . .The bike stayed in garage with the store tags still on it after my purchase as I was totally not sure I wanted to keep the 6 which was the only bike available in my size when I made that purchase. A few of my friends had Marlin 7s and suggested I should have bought a 7. One friend said call Race Pace and see what store has a Marlin 7 XXL available for sale and see if they will let you trade out the bike for the Marlin 7 and pay the difference. Ellicott City had a Marlin 7 XXL and after talking to me on the phone the Ellicott City store agreed to do just that. A trade from the Marlin 6 over to the Marlin 7 with the difference being paid by me. So on today 2/15/21 I picked up my Marlin 7 from Race Pace in Ellicott City and the sales associate even remembered my story of being undecided on keeping my 6 from a Social Media post in a MTB group I made that he and I both belonged too. He said he was glad Race Pace could help me out and put a smile on my face. Thanks Race Pace Ellicott City.. You all rock 🙂

I highly would not recommend this store! When I came to obtain my bike I was informed another customer took my bike and that they are giving me another one. Two days later we’ll really a day later since they are closed on Tuesdays, I received a phone call saying my bike is still there and I took another customers bike. So granted same bike and different serial numbers. The issue is the principle the young man assured me everything was fixed and have nothing to worry about. When in fact I do because I have no idea who to believe. Due to wanting to satisfy another customer I am unable to receive the bike/serial number associated to mine. Truly unhappy with the service and everything that took place. Let’s hope I don’t have this issue when I take it in for any service and receive another phone call to inform me of this. Definitely will not be going to this store ever again. Not to mention the manager could only say the issue is now fixed! Smh

I brought my poor condition vintage Trek bike to Race Pace in Ellicott City to see what could be done with it. Justin C. gave me an honest assessment of what it needed and we agreed it wouldnt be worth repairing. He showed me some reasonably priced new Trek bikes and with the detailed information Justin provided, I felt comfortable buying a new one. Unlike buying a new car, there was absolutely no pressure on me to buy. Justin answered the many questions I had honestly and patiently. I asked him about a number of accessories and he did a great job of keeping the final cost around my budget. He adjusted the bike to fit my needs and comfort. I was able to test drive my new bike around their lot and they even supplied a loaner helmet that I liked so much, I bought one for myself! All in all, I had an excellent experience at Race Pace. I was super impressed with Justins knowledge of bikes and his exceptional customer service skills. Working with someone like Justin made all the difference in the world for a more inexperienced rider like myself. I will definitely be coming back to Race Pace in Ellicott City to buy my wifes bike. Although it still needs a full tune up it is ready for summer thanks to the generous technician.

I expected to spend about a thousand, but given the price speech, I opted not to share my budget as the person appeared to be judging based on looks alone.Instead of being shown what was available while other customers were viewing inventory, we were led to a computer. Im well versed in using the internet, I can view bikes online at home, which I previously did, and which led me to this store. We wanted to physically see what was available and get a feel for sizing- not just using someones online chart.Very disappointed in the quality of service by what appeared to be the manager, maybe even the owner. In a word: FANTASTIC!My wife had her heart set on a Trek Fuel EX 9.8 in Miami Green to Teal Fade. This was a dream bike of hers that she decided she wanted unfortunately a little late in the year. This particular color was sold out online and only 5 stores in the US were showing the bike in stock in that color and in her size. I called one shop and was told no dice on shipping the bike from PA to NC. I called Race Pace next and spoke to Ben Reisse who talked to his rep and made it happen. He was awesome! He made purchasing this bike, sight unseen, so easy. As it turns out, he knew some of the people in the Asheville bike shop I was having the Fuel shipped to. The sale over the phone was easy and I got multiple emails from Ben letting me know about the bikes progress every step of the way. I couldnt have asked for better customer service! He got the bike out the door the very next day. If the bike shop in Asheville wasnt so swamped with sales, I couldve had my wife on that bike in about 5 days! Thanks Ben for the awesome customer service! If I lived anywhere near Race Pace in Ellicott City, MD, this would be my go to shop for bikes, accessories, tune-ups, etc.

Repairs are really expensive - another bike shop in the Baltimore (Baltimore Bicycle Works) costs sometimes less than half the price- super disappointed - the next time I will buy my bike in the facebook marketplace - I met people who got a lot better bikes there for less money.- when I told them about my problems with the bike (in the first 2 months after I bought it - they were just saying - well unlucky. thanks for that!

Ive bought two bikes here. I purchased one in July 2017 and another this year. The staff is always friendly and happy to help and talk about bikes. However, on their website, it says they offer 3 point performance bike fitas follows: This fit is included with any new bicycle purchase and includes a consultation with a trained bike fitter. This is a service they charge you $75.00 for if you just come in off the street with a bike you bought somewhere else. So, you would think its pretty involved. That sounds pretty good if they do it for free with your purchase. Except, they dont. At. All.In neither case was I offered a bike fit of any kind with my purchase and I wouldnt know what the bike fitter looks like because I never saw him.In addition, I recently brought my bike into the shop for a much needed tune-up. They got done sooner than expected. I went to the store to pick it up and I paid the $200, which included a new chain and brake cables. I chatted with two employees for a few minutes and one had to take a call. The other employee and I talked a little longer and the conversation turned to bike weights. I mentioned that I was curious what my road bike weighed and asked if they had a scale. The employee said, and Im quoting here, Well, Im not clocked in and everyone is pretty busy, so... SO, fill in the blanks. He couldnt be bothered to help a customer with something that would cost Race Pace absolutely nothing. It would have been a courtesy to a customer who had spent thousands (literally) in their store. He could have said, If you give me a few minutes, Ill get you some help with that. But, thats not what happened. I left. Then, I got their survey email. I replied truthfully, trying not to embellish anything. I got a phone call from a nice guy who I presume is a manager. He apologized and offered to let me bring my bikes in and get the 3 point fit now, at no charge. But unfortunately, I dont need that service anymore. I took care of it without their help.I love my Trek bikes and I love being able to shop them in person. But Race Pace is just another box store that ran the smaller stores out of town. They sell bikes and they sell services, but they deal in volume and an individual customer doesnt mean much to them. They wont go out of their way. At least they havent for me.

Just recently, I took my bicycle in for a bearing replacement. Unfortunately, an incorrect beairing was provided. Had a horrible experience.Dont take your kid with you because the salesmen know that you cant say what you like in front of them.I thought I needed a repair but before i said anything, the guy says, this bike is old you shouldnt spend money on it. It is a nice old Trek mountain bike. Old but in good shape. He discussed the issue with the rear wheel with the saleman but was very condescending to me in front of my son. Tried to sell me more but finally was ready to just sell me the wheel. Before we leave, i mentioned that the fork is out of alignment and would like them to fix it. At that point he lost his mind. He began to say that the bike is junk and that he would not touch it. He even refused to sell me the wheel because the bike is too dangerous to ride. A friend of his, slightly older, was next to us. Felt sorry and said, well you can ride it on the sidewalks.I asked, cant you fix it. He said no. His friend agreed. I was horrified but could not say anything because my son was with me. There are tools for this job. It is a steel fork. Steel is adjustable.I told them that we would come back the next day to look at a new bike.As i was leaving, the same young salesmen followed us to lock the doors and we able to see us get in the car. His last words were: You can buy a bike with the price of one wheel on that car.I still cringe when i think of the experience of that day.The next day I took my sons bike to another place in old Ellicott City and without hesitation they fixed the fork. As I mentioned, there is a special tool for aligning forks. And as to the rear wheel, my diagnosis was completely wrong. It turns out one of the chain links was jammed. The Race Pace guys totally missed that.I can thank the Race Pace salesman for one thing, he taught my son not to trust salesmen.

Thanks to Dave and the rest of the staff. They have helped me get several parts over the past few months, even when they didn’t have them in stock they would track them down, get them in and call to let me know. Could not ask for a better LBS

The staff is great at repair and the salespeople are very helpful and go the extra mile (no pun intended) to keep you happy. They helped me mount a bike rack on my car, and helped me bring in my bikes and helped me take them back out to my car. Highly recommended.

Bought a new Trek Domane SL5 - was promised that I would get a basic fitting and new pedals installed. When I picked up the bike the pedals were not installed. The rear wheel was binding so clearly it was not setup. No fit was offered. On the first ride at home the front derailleur was not adjusted - rubbed in almost every gear. This isnt the first time Ive had issues with new bikes or repairs from Race Pace. Ive used them for over a decade and there is a noticeable recent decline in service and an increase in attitude. Ill take the new bike to an LBS in Frederick to get the fit and adjustments.

Went to get my brake fixed they said I needed a whole new brake assembly and couldn’t just get the lever replaced. A couple months later went to dirt rag fest and busted my lever again the took it to the shimano stand and they said I could just get the lever for less then half the price.

I have been cycling for years and moved to the area recently.I switched from road bikes to MT bikes because of McKeldin and didnt understand the different pedal systems. They gave me a good description of the various systems and why they are certain ways, what is available on the market as far as shoes for each system (not just in their store) and how they can be adjusted. They were very knowledgeable and helpful.Ive patronized about 5 to 6 shops in my travels and have run into the attitudes that other posters have mentioned at all of those shops. Ironically even though I could tell that the guy helping me knew more than I did, he seemed more of the attitude of wanting to educate me than rub it in my face that he knew more. RacePace is the only shop that I havent run across the attitude that I must bow down to the staff because theyre more serious cyclists. Theyre pretty laid back. Maybe I was nice to them on the first visit, and so they have always been nice back. I dont know. The one time I had their shop do maintenance on my bike I had it back the next day and was happy with the results. And if I remember correctly, I could have picked it up that afternoon, but I just didnt have time that day. That was in the winter though.I cant help but noticing that the last complainer posted at a time when the weather was just getting nice, so they probably did have a huge backlog of bikes that had just been pulled out of winter storage and needed a tune up.Oh well. Theyve still got my business.
