I was trying to beat impending incursion of single digit and sub zero temps coming to Chicago area. My 10 year old BarMitts were getting pretty out dated. . .Son living in AK gave Beaver Sports great rating and I was lucky enough to score last pair of Dogwood Designs Poagies.Incredibly, they arrived faster than the Arctic air. They have been (aside from yellow color/beggar cant be choser) excellent-just back from 20 miler Sunday ride with temp of blistering 5 degrees above/WC -20. Toasty hands.Staff at Beaver Sports were great. Great shipping. Great product. Whats not to like. . .

Shop at Beaver if you want to pay retail prices and a lousy return policy. The Plethora of online retailers with free shipping, great prices, and free return shipping is a far better option than making the trek to Beaver. First off, my wife bought a pair of cross-country skis, with the manager helping us make our selection, and refused to throw in a wax when the bindings were mounted. I have lived in the mountains since I was a toddler, have a habit of walking into ski shops everywhere I go, and I have never seen another shop in the lower 48 that will not offer a free first wax when you plop down 500+ dollars.Very few items in Beaver a priced below MSRP and when they are, it is an item or two on clearance (15-25% off) and sold with a zero-return policy. The small shop, shipping to Fairbanks issue is no excuse. Although some competitors in town charge full price for items as well, they offer lifetime service on skis and bikes, plus some true world class athletes with extensive product knowledge to help when you need it. Most days strolling through Beaver, I have to walk up to the counter to get any service or product advice. This kind of rings with the Fairbanks style of customer service, but is absolutely no excuse, especially not at the prices they are putting on their goods. One place this shop does good with is in the shoe department downstairs. The high school kids down there are really enthusiastic and knowledgeable on the shoes. It is like an entirely different store downstairs.

I have been going to Beaver Sports since the early 90s. I feel a sense of community pride that we have such a great out door store. I have used some of my equipment pretty hard and have had good stuff break on occasion. They have always gone above and beyond to take care of the problem. They are without hype and seem to know that careful consideration and deliberation is critical because most of the gear that they sell is going to last a long time. The other day I purchased a bike rack after picking their brains most of the summer. When the clerk asked me if I needed help getting it out to my car, little did I know that Bruce, the top dog would come out from his office and wheel it out to my car. He said, Heck we may as well go ahead and mount it on your trailer hitch. He spent the next 30 minutes getting to tools, installing the hitch, and showing me how to work it. Folks, it just doesnt get any better than that. They will always have my business and loyalty.

A locally staffed, owned and operated outdoor store - but wait, theres more! They bring a lot to this community in the form of partnerships. Whether you are getting ready for boating season with some inflatable boat patches in the paddling center, or getting advice on the right ski wax, you know when you shop at Beaver Sports they support for local businesses like Nomadic Stars and non profits like KUAC, Public Radio and TV for Alaskas Interior.

Terrible customer service. I went in to have my flat tire fixed. I was there right as the shop opened because I really needed my flat tire fixed. After being rudely directed to the bike repair shop, I was told I wouldnt be able to pick up my bike until the next day. I explained that I couldnt wait that long because my bike is my bike is my transport. The sales guy quickly replied that they could have it done...in a few hours. Maybe two. But that I should just come back and check.I left my bike there for three hours. When I returned, it took the clerks fifteen whole minutes to locate my ticket so that I could pay. $23 later, I have a working bike, but I will not be back.$23 is highway robbery for a simple flat fix, especially when the tire was fine and only the tubing needed replacing. It also should not take three hours. I have had previous flats fixed in fifteen minutes. While the shop is conveniently located to my house, will gladly trek somewhere else for future needs.

This place has the worst customer service I have experienced, not to mention the overpriced gouging that they feel is necessary because of the captive audience they assume they have here in Alaska. Specifically, their bike department is hands down the worst in Fairbanks. DO NOT take your bike there or deal with their bike shop for one minute. If you are looking for a great bike shop, go to Goldstream Sports. There mechanics actually know what they are doing, and their customer service is 1000x better than Beaver Sports.
