This place is pretty big and has a lot of great items. Ive bought a lot of useful stuff like camping chairs, digital watch, bicycle, etc and the staff members are pretty helpful and chill. It is smart to wait for them to have sales to purchase stuff as they could be bought at great prices. They have a large clothing section but never bought any clothes from this place.
I came here a few days ago to buy a backpack. It was my first time buying a backpack, so I didnt know anything about backpacks.I was very lucky to have met James. He was so kind and detailed, even though I spent over an hour asking so many questions. And finally I was able to find one that fits my short (51) size among many backpacks. He was patient and taught me a lot about backpacks and helped me until I found something I liked.James, Thank you very much! You made me happy. See you again!!
Always providing a decent selection of active wear and adventure gear. Friendly staff helped us quickly narrow our selection based on our requirements. This location is probably the smallest in the NOVA region behind Baileys and Tysons, but its a couple minutes from Fair Oaks Mall.
This a a great REI! We always receive excellent service here just like we did today in the headgear and gloves (thanks Chris), coats, and footwear sections.
A few days ago I went here to buy hiking gear. I bought several items, and I especially want to say thank you to James for helping me with the backpack. I am a picky person when I was undecided for a long time, he helped me through and gave me a lot of advice on choosing the right backpack for me. I need more hiking gear and will be back here because of James. He is a very kind and warm person. Thank you James for being kind to me who is picky.
Everyone is very cheerful and helpful. Interacted with folks i. The bike and shoes section and they were very prompt and gave great advice. Highly recommend this place
Im new to the sport of rock climbing so I went to REI to pick up some rock climbing shoes. I had a ton of questions but the staff there were more than helpful. They answered all my questions thoroughly and, most importantly, never made me feel like a novice because of how little I knew. A staff member there named connor help me find exactly what I was looking for, and even asked several different staff members for their personal opinions on what would work best for me. A fantastic experience where I left feeling like I was better prepared for the sport that I love but still no little about. Would highly recommend.
Love this store and location. Very clean and great selection of stuff for all things outdoors. The staff is knowledgeable, but even better...they are friendly, genuinely seem happy to be working there and eager to help. Rare to go in there without having an actual authentic conversation with an employee.
We went in to get a leash for the dog and unfortunately they dont sell that there. I figured they would have something for folks who like to take their dogs on hikes or camping trips. Sadly no.Did end up buying my son some shoes on sale so it wasnt a total loss. There were only two check out people and only one guy working in the shoe dept. While I was waiting for the sole guy to help me again, another customer got fed up and stormed off. He must have been in a hurry.I did not feel like they were over solicitous but they didnt seem to go out of their way either. We were both masked up because my son is not eligible to get his vaccine yet; I have been vaccinated. I think folks were okay with masks or no masks. It didnt seem overly crowded in the store but it was around 2 pm on a Tuesday.I would probably come here again. We are moving though, so I most likely wont return to this specific REI.
Great place to shop for outdoor gear!Great return policy! Professional staff!
The clothes are not arranged by brand. So looking for Patagonia and Kuhl; you have to look for multiple racks and sections to find it in the store. Also, it would have been nice if someone actually stopped to help me figure out the difference between two jackets besides the price. Although I am glad that the sales person did get a number.
REI- IS THE BEST PLACE TO BUY ALL YOUR NEEDS FOR EXERCISE & BEYOND. I JUST PURCHASE A GARMIN WATCH & SOFIA WAS SO INFORMATIVE & HELPFUL. SHE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS & GAVE A COMPARISON ON HOW EACH WATCH WORKS & DEPENDING ON YOUR NEEDS, SHE EXPLAINED THE WORTH & WHICH ONE WOULD BENEFIT ME. SHE KNOWS HER MERCHANDISE & IF SHE WAS NOT SURE SHE WOULD LOOK -UP & EXPLAIN IT IN DETAIL, WHICH IS WHAT I LIKE . OVERALL EVERYONE IS FRIENDLY HELPFUL & KNOWLEDGEABLE. WHEN YOU ARE RETURNING AN ITEM MINIMAL QUESTIONS ARE ASKED .PLUS BEING A MEMBER IS ALSO GREAT B/C YOU RECEIVE DIVIDEND ON YOUR PURCHASES. ITS A PLACE YOU WOULD ENJOY TO VISIT.
Like any other REI, staff was really friendly and helpful. I bought a 30L daypack and they helped me to adjust it so it fit me right. Selection of daypacks in the store was a little limited but I still found what I was looking for.
Popped into REI after looking at some shoes online and thought since I was at Fairfax Corner I would give them my money instead of Amazon! My happy mood was quickly changed when greeted with a rude salesman. I think someone needs to do some customer service training if they want to stay in business. For now I will stick with Amazon.
Friendly and helpful staff provide knowledgeable and prompt service. Havent been in the store for a while due to covid but went in quickly today to pick up an online order sent to the store.
This is an excellent store for anything related to outdoor supplies. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly as well.
Super! The hiking backpack crew of sofia and Erik helped me so much today by measuring me in order to for me with the best pack for my trip to Zion, a guy in shoes helped my find sucks, a guys in apparel helped me find the perfect pant.. I was very impressed! Thanks!
Awesome place always find something new and fun to use ...
Wide variation of items from major supply companies. Great source for most outdoor activities. (Hiking, camping, rock climbing, biking)
Friendly, helpful staff and all of the equipment for which I was looking. Another good REI experience.
Such a good experience! The staff is lovely. Patrick helped me out for over an hour picking out gear for the AT. Having hiked it himself, his insight was invaluable. Give the man a raise. Thank youuuu! :)
Love this place. Friendly staff and nice selection of goods.
Friendly helpful staff provided assistance even before we knew we needed it. Great job!
Just want to start of by saying I dont usually complain about stuff like this, and I have been to this REI many times and had a delightful experience, however the past few times I have been in their and had a question about camping I have had the same guy help me... (glasses and grayish hair) Seemed to have some what of an attitude and went off about things that were a little too much unnecessary. Again Im a mother so I know how kids can be opinionated but this was just too much. Maybe you guys can get some more people to help out in that area that are a little more relaxed and sweet and patient.
Their Memorial Day sale is a joke, particularly for clothing items. I always look for a good deal but even during REIS BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR thd price deductions are off of the full price or MSRP. So a pair of Prana SHORTS with an MSRP of $79 is now $55 after a 30% sale. These shorts are made in India and not even produced in the US, why am I paying $55 ON SALE for a pair of shorts that should be like $30-40 bucks on sale Maximum. Absurd prices but if you can afford it good for you. Not sure how the employees can even shop at the very store they work at if they are making sub $15/hr wages.
I had a problematic issue with one of their Co-Op (ARD) bicycles. It took a lot of work and a few visits, but the bike shop was great about working with me to properly identify and rectify the issue. Great staff and management here.
Good group of employees here. Some are a bit more knowledgeable about the gear than others so choose wisely. Sales? Eh. Not that great and the stock seems to get limited pretty quickly. Good job on managing the space regarding the pandemic.
Visited to pick up a rain coat and found exactly what I needed. Erin helped me and was very knowledgeable and courteous!
Looking at camping gear and Mac was very helpful and knowledgeable.
I had intended to check out footwear, as I have undergone two foot surgeries over the past year and am in need of an uber comfy new pair. The fellow who greeted me shortly after entering was kind, welcoming, and relaxed. Unfortunately before I could reach the footwear section, another employee, a self-appointed commissar, made a point to harass me about pulling the face condom over my nose. Besides being ineffective as per the heavily propagandized purpose, it causes my glasses to fog which greatly limits my vision, apart from the fact that I am a human being who needs to breathe air freely to live. I abruptly left, unbothered to engage in any conversation. Harass and chase your return customer out of the store, brilliant thinking guys.
The staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful. I had many good conversations and they did an amazing job at fitting my for my backpacking pack. All are super knowledgeable as well.
I had a great experience. I bought a bike trainer that didn’t meet my expectations. The bike shop was able to look at it the very next day. The staff looked everything over and we had discussion about what my expectations were when I purchased it. I let them know I wished to return the item. In particular a gentleman by the name of Chris politely gave my his thoughts and immediately okayed the return. I will have nothing but high praise for the staff and store based on this experience. I’ve bought 2 bikes from REI in the past but I’ve never had to return anything before. Everyone I spoke to from the initial phone call, bike shop technicians, manager, to the person at the register when I returned it were so nice and polite. Nothing but good people and high quality service at the Fairfax store. I highly recommend them.
The staff here are so kind and helpful! I will always give them my business when its an option.
Very clean and organized store. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I even price checked a few items against Amazon and REI had the comparable pricing! I definitely recommend for any outdoor adventure needs!
Good customer service, with good quality products.
REI is the place to go for outdoor clothing and equipment. You can get good advice from knowledgeable staff. They have a fantastic returns policy. You can even get good deals on slightly used clothes and equipment at their garage sales. The company is even a solid corporate citizen.
Great place for all outdoor needs, my go to place!
Excellent retailer for outdoor recreation equipment, goods, and apparel. Apparel and equipment range mostly mid- to high-end, with few budget options depending on what youre looking for. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff. Becoming a member of their co-op nets you access to special bargains and sales--the garage sale is a great way to snag quality gear at excellent prices if youre willing to pick up someones gently used/returned stuff--and usually pays for itself with one decent shopping trip.Obligatory pandemic-disclaimer : this establishment has done a solid job of rearranging the store layout to promote distanced browsing, with well-placed staff mingling to ensure customer flow. Curbside- and walk-in pick-up is easy and convenient. Masks required and adhered to, plexiglass panels installed for cashier protection. Fitting rooms available to use and sanitized by staff hands after each use. All-around a welcoming atmosphere that, at least from a customer standpoint, feels like its been well-thought-through to promote safety without sacrificing customer experience.
The staff here is excellent and want to ensure you are satisfied. I have been here before, but this review is for a recent experience I had.I bought a Co-op cycle online. The email system was very good in explaining that even though my bike would arrive during that week at the store it may take 7 more days for them to put the bike together. After 6 days I decided to call the store to see if I could get an update.Alex L. went above and beyond in making sure I had a good experience. He was very friendly and explained that the bike was in their shop and they would be putting it together that day.Later I get a phone call from Alex L. and he said they got to my bike. However, as they were working on it, they found a scratch on it. He explained that it was purely cosmetic, but they would like to offer me a water bottle and cage for free. I told him I actually already had one for the bike and asked if maybe there was perhaps something else he could do. He quickly thought of a low profile bell, which I honestly have been meaning to buy and keep forgetting to order one. This is really great customer service - offering solutions. I happily agreed and he then told me I would receive an email when it was done and it should be ready for pick up that afternoon.I received both a call and an email when it was ready. Curb side pick up was quick and easy. Definitely recommend this REI store for future purchases.
REI is my favorite place for shopping for outdoors. I went to collect a pick up order. The staff was super helpful. I got to try out my hiking poles for a bit and I was out in a jiffy. They maintain the store really well per social distancing guidelines.
Good social distancing. Only allowing a certain amount of people inside. Have to wait for someone to come out before going in. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable on the things we were looking for.
Always find great things here.
I like this store a lot. Visited this branch for the first time on today and I think they are better then other sports shops or out door activities stores. They have a decent bicycle section. Almost 50% of their space is for bicycle related materials, from parts to service station to actual bicycles. I checked their bicycles and the quality is not bad. Price is about average and quality is decent.Any outdoor activities, not sport related, you can find products there. Very good selections for both men and female.Chatted with Alex, one of the sales man, this store is like an independent corporation, so they make their own decision what kind of product, what kind of quality they want to sell to customers.Thought not sure if it is competitive to your judgment, but I feel I am willing to recommend this store to outdoor activity lovers.
Found what we wanted. Creative social distancing arrangements in the shoe section still permitted store personnel to assist at a safe distance for them and their customers.
I went in with my wife to exchange socks because they had a minor defect. I walked in the door and my mask was below my nose, the guy with glasses guarding the front door chased me down and told me to pull it up because it was constantly slipping off. So I complied the best I could. As I walked through the store I saw at least one rei employee with their mask below their nose. I was going to look at shoes but they had a 6ft plus barrier around them. It really confused me because you could try on clothes and pick up other items and look at them. You can also return items. So why can’t we look at shoes? Covid has made people nuts, do feet have more covid than the rest of your body? If you’re going to barricade the shoes make sure you barricade the rest of the items in the store. Very unpleasant experience, I’ll be going to cabela’s from now on, not that it matters.
Every time I go here everyone is helpful and knowledgeable. They also get me in and out quickly
Great selection of gear. Have been coming here since 2013. Prices fluctuate however customer service is top notch and replacing defective items is easy. Recommend they step up their game with a product innovation team per store as sometimes 4-6 months go by with nothing new introduced in the store. My favorite brands include Arc`teryx, Garmin, REI, FjallRaven, Coleman, and others.
The Co-op is awesome and the people are very helpful and friendly. I wish the prices were lower, but the products are all high quality.
I always have a good experience shopping here. Everyone is always nice and ready to help. As Im usually clueless, this is most appreciated!
Polite Friendly greeter ! Knowledgeable, courteous, professional customer service at bike repair area ! Large selection of merchandise ! Value !
What can I say, I like this store.
Good Covid procedure, short wait, otherwise in and out quickly.
Thank you Nayda the General Manager who is the best out of all CPK stores. Your one Amazing person and your leadership to your store and to CPK is part of there success. we come to you before we come to CPK.
Great Prices!! Friendly staff!
Visited the store strictly due to their having quality products. Sadly, our experience echoed those of other reviewers. Very poor customer service. We were able to do our own research online while in the store and will make our purchase online rather than local.
Great deals right now.
Very friendly and helpful employees.
REI is a phenomenal store. The staff is extremely helpful and nice, the products are excellent, and the company gives back to the community to help maintain the outdoors for others. The garage sales are great. I highly recommend shopping here, the staff will go out of there way to help you find what you want. And if the product you get doesnt work for you, the return process is a breeze.
AJ in shoe department was amazing!!!! Very knowledgable, helpful and patient!!!! Friendly and out going.Definately knows her products!!!
Always nice ans clean the staff are always happy to help and the products are alwahs great. Good store
Always a good day when you shop at REI!
Great bike help
Store definitely has everything, but I think their staffing is a little weird. 3 people hanging out in the bike area with the girl doing repairs, no customers, but only 1 person working his butt off in shoes with 7 customers all waiting? Insert shrug emoji here.If you know what you want and can just grab it from the shelf, you should be good. Otherwise, plan your time accordingly.
I want to send a big shout out to Keith! He made my visit today worth every penny and reminded me of the difference between REI and other sporting goods stores. Keith was attentive, engaging, and very knowledgeable. He help fit me with the right bag for my comfort level and activity. I cant wait to come back from this trip and do some more shopping!
A smallish REI focusing heavily on clothing, like all members of the chain this store offers excellent quality merchandise at rather high prices. It is worth being a member (we have been for a very long time) for the dividend, and REI brand items are usually very good. When looking for a very good to excellent quality item to use for outdoor activities, it is a great place to shop, but be prepared to pay the price.
Good clean fun
Very helpful. They gave me some great advice and welcomed my questions. I will be going back to pay for my equipment. I dont mind paying a little more because I know Im getting the right stuff the first time.
Great staff, good sales.
Staff was very helpful. The store was hard for me to find things in but the employee helped me find what I was looking for.
Great place for specialty outdoor supplies and gear. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, so be sure to ask questions if youre not sure what items would best suit your activity. They have the best quality gear around this area.
Good
My wife and I are very loyal REI customers, but this particular store location has hassled me numerous times over returns. I understand some customers have been abusing their generous return policy, but even after returning items only one week later in their original packaging I was given the third degree over them. This is the second time this has happened and Im suspecting its particular to this REI store.
Newly remodeled, everything you would expect from REI
Great store wish it was the size of the Tysons location. Staff are always pleasant helpful and knowledgeable. Good selection for the younger ages. I could wish the prices were a bit lower, but at least you get some of it back if youre a co-op member.
Poor experience. Better selection of swim goggles online. It is a waste to show up at the store. Floor staff couldnt use their devices to check stock and availability. Poor knowledge of what they have and how to find it
Very nice store. Saleswoman who helped me buy new climbing shoes was great! (Wish I remembered her name)
Best bike shop around! Quality, price, and customer service.
A great place to get quality outdoor gear and some expert advice in what will work best for you. Even though the infamous rental equipment return policy is over, they still stand by their products and will work with you if something breaks. Dont turn down the membership out if hand - your first purchase gets 20% back, so if youre making a big purchase youll get the membership for free and still get cash back on future purchases.
A spectacular service. I am sorry for those who seem to have experienced a diluted time. The staff have all been great fun to talk to. I rambled on about my last long distance hike and ask the flaws. They then helped me build a gear list to prepare for the pct.One sales associate went as far as to direct me to a backpack that they didnt even carry... Talk about customer service! He suggested I buy from golite for my needs, which they dont carry.I love this store, I love that many of the employees are like hikers Id meet along any trail in the world. Dont be discouraged from other posts.. From one seasoned backpacker to another, go make a friend here.
I went there today to look at tents with my boys in preparation for our camping trip at the end of August. The person working in the tent area was extremely helpful, not pushy, just a real nice and knowledgeable guy. They didnt have the tent we wanted, so I will order online, but I feel very good about the decision. I have been here before with similar experiences. There return policy is fantastic as well. I buy with extreme confidence knowing that if doesnt work out they will take it back, no questions asked.
Their staff is always incredibly helpful in answering questions and going the extra mile when you need help. If you buy a membership, you get a dividend back at the end of each year which helps since most of the prices are retail. Purchased bikes from here and didnt have any issues but if I did they said we could return them at any time, so that gave me a better feeling about buying from them.
Have been shopping here for years, but the customer service has gotten awful over the past year. I drove an hour to get here to exchange some shoes that had fallen apart within 4 months, and not only did they say they couldnt exchange them (so much for that standing by our products return policy) but the shoe lead was rude and unsympathetic. I would expect that even if they couldnt exchange they would have gotten me info on how to contact the manufacturer for help. Im not sure what has happened here but the employees clearly no longer care.
REI was unable to meet their policy as stated on the website of 100% Satisfaction Guarantee to refund or exchange any product with-in 1 year of purchase. Kinda disappointed today with them as they build their reputation upon this premise. 3 weeks ago I bought a pair of kids smart wool socks and apparently they were on discontinue (sale price 3 cents) and not supposed to be on the floor, no one mentioned this at time of purchase probably because it was a large purchase. I didn’t notice this at the time because I was buying 4 pairs of hiking shoes, 4 jackets, several pairs of smart wool socks along with some backpacks. All I wanted to do was was exchange as we grabbed the wrong size off the rack. They had the same pair in a different color but they were unable to exchange because of the price difference between the discontinued sock color and the color they had in stock. My option was to either pay the difference or buy the new pair. I wasn’t trying to get one over I just wanted the correct size and in the end I purchased the new socks in the current color and will now being giving away the incorrect size. So their policy should read 100% Satisfaction Guarantee as long as you notice the mistake we made at time at time of purchase because if you get home and notice that you made a mistake in your purchase of the wrong size and it turns out we made a mistake in selling you a discontinued item too bad. The only good thing about this is that the price was three cents for the original pair bought so I am not out a lot of money. I write this review to warn others that if they buy something thinking that they can exchange it, REI’s policy is very strict and if the color of the item you purchased is no longer available you will have to buy the ‘new color’ or pay the difference even if otherwise the product is the same.
Staff were super helpful.
Excellent experience at a first class REI. I wanted a pair of hiking shoes and the associate there did a great job of helping me select the perfect fit for my foot and budget. I like shopping at this location.
If I could give 20 stars instead of 5, I would, not only to this store, but the entire REI corporation. I came here thru First Descents, an organization that sends cancer survivors like myself as well as those still in treatment on Week & Weekend long outdoor adventures free of charge. REI recently partnered with FD & this store provided all the equipment & more than enough food for myself & 11 other participants for a 9+ mile hike & overnight camping trip this past weekend in Shenandoah. Sara & Chris, 2 REI staff members were our guides & could not be more perfect. Through stinging nettle, lightening drills & scat, they made everyone feel 200% safe, even a 1st time camper like myself. I would & will recommend this store & staff to anyone who asks, maybe even to those who dont 😉
As a customer, I love REI but I have heard that store staff isnt super thrilled about how they are measured and compensated.Great outdoor gear and knowledgeable staff members. This is a small store so they dont carry a ton of stuff here.
Friendly staff is genuinely interested in helping. I find the on site inventory small, but theyll order anything for you with no shipping. Good deal
Good store and friendly staff.
Idk what others are talking about. Everytime Ive been here Ive been greeted by very knowledgable workers! They usually walk upto me within mins and ask if I need any help! They seem to always know exactly what Im looking for and they will be honest if they Arnt sure!I even came on their garage sale day inwhich they re-sell returned items.Even then the employees were very helpful and maintained control of the overwhelming crowd! They are a bit on the pricier side compared to online. But then again. Its retail, hard to compete with the Internet.Atleast in you get to see the products in person and try them out before purchasing, (vs online)Ide reccomend this place in a heartbeat!
I am loath to let one bad experience ruin my enjoyment of a store, but the way I was treated by the manager recently left me with a very bad taste.First, let me say that I have been an REI member for several years and have always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I have bought several hundred dollars worth of purchases there, and never once needed to return anything. So when I was packing for a trip and found that a backpack I had purchased was not big enough (the zipper actually popped), I trusted that REIs 100% satisfaction return policy would have me covered. I went in to the store, expecting to be able to get a return and buy a bigger bag. After questioning me for several minutes, the manager refused to issue a return. I explained that the bag wasnt doing what I had purchased it to do, and that I was not satisfied with it. He was very rude and told me I should try selling it on eBay.Since I was leaving for a trip in a couple of days, I obviously couldnt do that. I called the store in Baileys Crossroads and asked whether I would be able to get an exchange there. They were more than helpful. The staff there issued me a full refund and helped me find a bigger bag, even though the store was about to close. I was very happy with my experience there.I love the Fairfax store, but because of how rude the manager was, I am not sure I will be returning as often. Its further away, but the customer service at Baileys Crossroads cant be beat.
Very helpful staff
I come here often for camping, bike and outdoor wear for my hiking needs. Staff is friendly and always had a pleasant experience shopping here.
This store is practically my playground. I come here for all my outdoor needs, whether it be for camping, backpacking, biking, hiking, kayaking, climbing, or even winter gear. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. I even started bringing my bicycle here for repairs and maintenance because the prices are decent and the staff are up front and honest. They are usually well stocked with equipment and clothing, and its easy to order online and have it shipped to the store for free pickup if needed.REI also offers classes (some free and some paid) on topics relative to outdoor activities such as how to fix a bike, planning camping trips, choosing the right gear for your adventures, etc. They also offer excursions and other fun trips that they organize for members as well.Membership at REI is a one-time $20 payment and its worth every bit, as you get 10% back in almost every purchase in the form of dividends each year.
Great store with quality gear. Only problem is Im 6 3 340lbs so apparently I dont fit into reis mold of what an outdoor enthusiast is supposed to be. Please get a big and tall section!
