The signature vanilla latte is excellent. They use real vanilla bean. The owner Jade is also very cool.
The baristas who work rush here are braver than any us marine. every employee here is beautiful and deserves the world
My hometown cafe. Such creative flavors!
I wish their bagels turned out to be better than they do when you place the order for “toasted with cream cheese”. I tried a few times and each time the bagel felt like piece of fat rubber. The owner should give it a shot and try to eat what they are selling as a test. Decent coffee, and location though.
Our go-to spot! Must try their amaretto latte. Great atmosphere, coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Never disappoints! Also friendly staff and service. Cannot ask for more!
Their BLT is there best sandwich around, just perfect. I also recommend the Honey Charcoal latte, which is great. I love this place.
Nice spot to grab a coffee or sandwich and chill. Staff were nice, prices were good, and the coffee was good. Will visit again.
Coffee, unsweet tea/lemonade mix and egg cheese and bacon croissant. Yum, yum, yum.An hour early for an appointment and needed a bite. Very happy shark! :) thanks ladies
Normally I love this place. Great sandwiches .. I went in one time and they were super nice. But then I ordered curbside twice with no issue and then I ordered it one time and they told me they dont usually do curbside bc theyre busy. I actually have no problem with that but one employee shot daggers at me with her eyes when I went in to pick up. I usually tip at least 15%, sometimes more, but after this negative experience I placed a pick up order about a week later and didnt tip. So this time, same thing, I get looks from two employees as Im going to pick up my food. Heres the kicker: It emphasizes on their website they actually prefer pickup or curbside! It says on the website how they have limited seating and that pickup and curbside is encouraged on a big red pop-up on the website, complete with curbside instructions. I mentioned this to the employee, initially, who told me they are too busy to do curbside. Instead of glaring at your customers when they order curbside, how about changing your website??? Ridiculous! And I dont even have a problem with going in! What difference does it make to me? Food is good, generally, but some employees have a lousy attitude. We dont eat there anymore. Heres a clue: Be gracious to your customers. Esp the ones who tip big! I dont mind tipping big elsewhere! Customers are not required to tip, especially for take out! I usually tip very well, mainly due to current circumstances. The one time I dont tip, I get the cold shoulder.
Always quick service. Great selection of breakfast items. And a very broad of coffee.
Nifty little place that serve excellent coffee and delicious dessert. Their menu options are unique and equally satisfying to feast upon. It has a environment where you enjoy occasional distraction to people-watch or to isolate yourself into your screen with an oversized headphone to blot out the world. Due to COVID-19, space can be scarce depending on the time of the day. I bid thee good luck!
De Clieu is one of my favorite coffee spots in all Fairfax! Though the seating can be limited, the staff are friendly, well trained and make beautiful concoctions that never disappoint. They also have a bunch of non-coffee options, which is rare for mom and pop coffee shops I find.My advice: even if it sounds strange, give the fancy beverages a try. The coconut chai latte and the sugarplum fairy latte are strange and delightful and addictive! :)
Not a bad coffee shop, with decent number of seats, but quite crowded, nonetheless. Usually there will be few people eyeing for seats, so seating isnt guaranteed. But once seated, not too bad of an atmosphere. There is a small public parking lot less than a 100 yards up the street. Not sure about other parking spaces, so not too convenient if you want to drop by in your car.I had the latte, but nothing to write home about. The way I judge a good latte is whether I feel a slight bit nauseated, which means, at least to me, a bit more than necessary proportion of milk over espresso. I felt that here.If Im walking in the neighborhood and was craving for coffee, then, yes, Id come by again. But not if Im driving through the neighborhood. Not really worth the hassle.
Cute, low key corner Cafe. Staff were friendly and they have delicious chai.
One day best coffee place in virginia.... full of people... food was really good .... coffee and lemonade was good toooo. Will go their again and will recommend this to my family and friends..... ...... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻....... 😀😀😀😀... btw their egg and cheese breakfast is a must try with everything bagel.... it was really good and i will go again for that.
My iced coffee was fairly good, although my partner got an iced latte and found it to be overly sweet. While fine, I had a very odd experience here today. I grabbed two sparkling waters out of the case and stood back to stand with my partner and look at the menu, and the cashier said sir, you have to pay for those thinking I was about to run off without paying. It was a very odd experience, and clearly a misunderstanding that we worked out, but its put a bad taste in my mouth (better than the latte, according to my partner, haha) and I wont be going back.
Tried this new menu Italian Cold-Cut Sandwich. Its amazingly good!! Super fresh and the dressing is so tasty. Perfect Sandwich for summer!
This is an authentic coffee house in quaint Old Town Fairfax--which itself is worth visiting. It has well priced breakfast items and really strong, REAL coffee. It is what a coffee house is meant to be. BTW I am a lifelong native of NOVA, so I write this as a local... not a tourist.
Great sandwich. Intelligencia coffee.Busy when I stopped in. Parking available in a garage next to shop. Coffee was good. Not as amazing as it could have been for an Ethiopia in a Chemex. Still a good experience. The decor is definitely authentic to this location of the United States. Digging that. Good conversations all around the seating areas. Good variety of offerings (gelato, quiche, sandwiches, pastries, coffee) and impressed with multiple coffee extraction methods.Happy for my 20oz for here was done in a for here mug. However, I would prefer something fancier, like some of coffee poured into a mug with a glass carafe included, for the 5.30 price. (It makes for a better experience.
Sandwich and drinks were great! Seating left to be desired... it’s hard to find a good place to sit
I decided I needed a change of scenery for a weekend study sesh with the babe and I managed to find this gem. They offer the coffee style art on top of your foamy, creamy drink. Since this was my first time having it, De Clieu did an amazing job on giving me a positive impression on their variety of coffee flavors and artwork. The cafe is located on the corner of the street and there’s free public parking within the same block vicinity. This place also provides outlets and free wifi which makes it the perfect ideal place to sit down at the wooden tables with a cup of coffee and crunch time. However, keep in mind there are a lot of college students on the weekend especially during exam weeks so it can be difficult to land a seat sometimes.
One of my favorite coffee shops in northern Virginia. My friend and I eat Thai across the street and always come here after to chat and have coffee and a dessert. Very clean, extensive menu, bringer and airy. Love the contactless payment like Apple pay. I hope they can make it through the pandemic.
I used to go to De Clieu in college, so visiting again today was a nice trip down memory lane. I got the tomato caprese which was really good. I’ve never had their pastries, but they look tasty. The best things about De Clieu are the kind customer service, the relaxed atmosphere with great music choices (not blaring or too loud, which is also good for studying), and the crazy variety of coffee choices. I got the maple syrup latte upon one of the barista’s recommendations and it tasted great; I just wish it was a bit hotter.Overall I had a great experience, I look forward to visiting De Clieu again when I’m in the area.
Awesome coffee if you like strong robust coffee with intense flavor! The sandwiches are good here as well.
Great, little gem in downtown Fairfax City. Favorite gathering spot for locals and college students. Large variety of food and drinks - everything from traditional coffees and teas to smoothies, cold brews, pastries, sandwiches and more. Just as good if not better than the chain stores and priced the same or better. Never disappoints!!
Food was delicious and fast, would definitely recommend stopping in for a quick bite.
I got horrific food poisoning from the egg cheese and ham croissant sandwich yesterday. 😞 It looked great but once I tasted it, the egg was very rubbery, and was not worth the $7 and some change the sandwich was. The latte was fine, but not great. I will be avoiding this place and their funky eggs. On the bright side, the wrapping paper is cute. I’d go elsewhere to avoid getting sick.
It was my first time here, based on reviews I was eager to try it! Parking is a bit confusing for new customers, there are 2 public lots behind & beside. The interior is cute but not what I would expect for a typical coffee shop. Tables were socially distant & signs were posted with mask requirements, which was nice. Staff seemed a little over whelmed but nonetheless, they were friendly. I ordered a chai latte with oat milk, and a bagel with cream cheese & slice of tomato. The prices are reasonable & chai tea latte was delightful. My only “complaint” is that they had the door wide open & it was absolutely freezing. So cold that I basically chugged my latte to warm up. Other tables too kept on their jackets & winter attire. This is a minor detail, but still enough to hinder my experience. I will be back when the weather is above 40° as I am not a fan of a “winter breeze”. Other than that, I can’t complain & I look forward to returning but I would suggest to make the temperature comfortable for customers to enjoy their purchases. Definitely did not meet the coffee shop aesthetic, but did meet the taste expectations.
Good amount of seating, lots of plugins on the walls, sandwiches are fairly priced and decent sized. Coffee was darn good. Ya this place gets my vote!
Great atmosphere, food and coffee!
Best coffee/sandwiches in downtown Fairfax. The atmosphere is perfect to work in as well.
Good drips and ple seating
My favorite coffee place in all of NOVA. They have some stellar staple menu items but make sure to change it up with seasonal options too. While the coffee is the highlight their food and bakery options are also phenomenal. I highly recommend!
De Clieu is my absolute favorite coffee shop! They have creative lattes (my favorite is the Maker’s Mark Latte), friendly service, tasty filling food and a great coffee house atmosphere! Although it gets rather busy, they do a good job making drinks quickly and I’ve always been able to find a seat. :)
I have been here three times, and while I think the coffee is truly fantastic, the sandwiches could be better. They are certainly tasty and they have plenty of options, but I have never been thrilled.Atmosphere is very good for studying or chatting with friends. I had a difficult time getting wifi to work well on an admittedly old tablet, so might not recommend for work dependent on internet.
Love the specialty coffees. The Amaretto latte was delicious. I want to try the Toffee Apple and other seasonal offerings. The blueberry scones was amazing and I enjoy the quiche Lorraine with a side of salad greens. Always a treat.
The dinner was delicious and fun
Great vibe and staff. Great coffee too
Stopped here recently on a work trip. Great coffee and even GREATER service!
Meh. Needed a place to do some work. Service was great. Scone was ok. Cappuccino was ok. No bathroom available. I get its still a pandemic but if youre serving coffee, paying guests should have access to a bathroom.
First time here and we fell in love the moment we walked in. The staff are very welcoming and friendly with a smile on their faces upon greeting us. I love that their menu on their boards are handwritten in ink chalk. It shows personality and creativity, as well as the time and effort into designing the whole thing. The decor has a classic coffee shop feel to it, but the table with the records and record player by the restrooms add a vintage charm. This place is also great for those who need to work or study since you have access to their WiFi connection and there are plenty of outlets along the wall by the windows. They offer a variety of coffee brews and teas: Fresh Drip Brew, Chemex, French Press, V60, Esspressos, Tea Lattes, Speacialty/Seasonal brews, Gelatoccinos, and Iced Coffee & Teas. Not to mention their breakfast and lunch sandwiches, a few salad and soup options, and their baked pastries. I got the Jack of all Trades breakfast sandwich with a caramel macchiato whole my husband got the BLT and a light roast French press. They brought out the sandwiches to us in a matter of minutes while we only had to wait a little bit longer for the French press, but that is to be expected for the craft. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Most of the time when I go to coffee shops I order the caramel macchiato and I usually end up adding sweetener but De Clieus caramel macchiato is supurb and on point, I didnt have to add anything! As far as handicap accessibility goes, I have not seen any ramp as we have only gone through the front entrance where there are a few steps to get into the coffee shop. There is a back entrance but I have not gone through it to see if there were any ramps or elevators. Also, the men and womens restrooms are single individual use and there are no changing tables. For parking, there is a small free public parking lot only walking distance.Overall, we truly enjoyed our experience at De Clieu that we will definitely be back again!
I recall this late season Winter day where I ventured through the streets of old town Fairfax and stumbled across this gem of a coffee shop. I was delighted to see the different options they had for coffee. I had a scarf on that day and recall walking in and dropping it on the floor. One of the employees picked it up, and said hey, you dropped your scarf! - I heard him out of the corner of my, well I guess they call it peripheral hearing but I did not know he was speaking to me. Another young lady sitting down on table with her laptop possibly had observed me dropping the scarf or the act of him verbalizing which caught her attention then she noticed I didnt hear it but she stood up and started to reach for the scarf. I grabbed the scarf before she took it out of his hands and continued to look at the menu acting like nothing happened. She went to go sit back down and started typing on her computer. The foam in the specific coffee style I order is high, but the cappuccino shouldnt felt like it was only foam. I went up and ordered another one to try. I got the cafe mocha and was much more pleased. Good day
No longer my favorite place. Pretty much impossible to get a table to sit down without a wait. Lots of college kids camping on laptops taking tables for extended periods. Best coffee house in Fairfax. Friendly service. Great breakfast and lunch items. Plenty of nearby parking. Limited seating during lunch so arrive early if you want to dine in.
Love this place. I’ve been going here since they opened. I lived overseas for a while and it was the first place I got carry out from when I came back.
I love their coffee.
Found this place last-minute and we ended up back again the next morning! Such a great place .I am SO grateful for this cafe!! The staff very helpful, Highly recommend the latte!
Their fall drinks are superb! The maple and the pumpkin pie are delicious. I am not usually a fan of sweet drinks so the option to do have sweet was perfect!
I came here to try the coffee. Ended up getting an oat milk latte. It was just OK for me. However, I liked the online ordering option, the space was nice and in a great location if you want to take your treats outside.
I had a small coffee and am oatmeal. The oatmeal was really nice and had walnuts. I was surprised they had walnuts. Ill come back for that.
Food was fine, staff was nice as well
The people are great. Very friendly and accomdating.
Reminded me of an airport concession. Food was okay, but seemed like it was all preprepared and just warmed up for serving
Came here awhile ago (cant believe I didnt review it yet)! Its a very nice and tidy breakfast spot in busy af old town Fairfax. Be ready to park in some very tight spots in the nearby parking lot (unless you find parallel parking on the street). Clean bathrooms, clean venue, very nice staff.I havent been back post-COVID.Would recommend for a nice weekend breakfast.
AMZING COFFEE AND SANDWICHES in the heart of Fairfax City.
They are my favorite local coffee shop. Especially I enjoy their seasonal flavors very much! They also have a variety of sandwiches which may be a bit pricy but definitely delicious.
The staff is always so friendly here! I’m not a regular, but whenever I’m walking around OTF, I’ll stop in for an iced latte. Bonus: they have a pumpkin one now (seasonal) and it’s so tasty!
Amazing coffee and food. Their seasonal coffee menu always has unique and delicious flavors that are better than specialty coffees Ive had anywhere else. Their breakfast sandwiches and baked goods are fantastic, and the staff is always extremely friendly. If youre looking to breakfast or just some coffee, I cant recommend De Clieu highly enough.
De Clieu is a wonderful place to get food and coffee. I have been going to them for years. However what brought me to write this review was the amazing effort taken on their part to protect their customers. As of the time of this review, they require masks to come in. Also the signage they have directing people to social distance is awe inspiring.
Such pleasant employees. Limited seating right now.
Their brewed coffee is really good. The food tastes good but is over priced, especially for the portion size they give. Please try this place for yourself as it is privately owned. They do offer a wide variety for breakfast, lunch & snacks.
Great vibe. Delicious coffee. Unique, original drink choices and a diverse menu.My only knock is for a lack of cozier, quieter nooks for a more private conversation. Perhaps a mix of more comfortable armchairs would add to the appeal of the space as well. But again, really high quality drinks. Definitely worth stopping in for a sip.
Great social spot for coffee or specialty drink, sandwich, danish or pastry. Warm atmosphere and friendly staff Very unique gathering spot and always a great experience whatever I have eaten here. Hope you give this place a try. You will come back many times.
The lattes and chai lattes are wonderful. Theres a nice selection of pastries and other food items. The sandwiches are fresh and tasty. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Ive recommended it to friends numerous times!
Convenient coffee place. They ask you if youre staying or going and give you matching cups for what youre doing. Its very comfortable atmosphere. Very easy to get things done here. I highly recommend this place.
It’s amazing small place 😍
We came to use amex for small business and wanted to order a coffee and pasty. Surprised they actually dont take amex but we ordered a sandwich and coffee anyway. The salted caramel was too salty and a tuna sandwich seemed overpriced for how much you get, but the tuna was decent.
Pretty good coffee & sandwiches. We’ve had better food & coffee in other coffee shops nearby though.
Quaint little coffee shop: pastries, breakfast items, coffee (blend is a tad acidic for my preferences, but still very good), other interesting concoctions like charcoal lemonade and others I cant recall at he moment. Great spot to study or read if youre tired of Starbucks; it does get pretty lively on the weekends, though...
Wonderful people serving wonderful food and coffee!
Amazing people! We love this place!
Quintessential coffee shop, can get drip, french press or pour over. Efficient service but not rushed coffee & other coffee drinks offered. Real good collegiate environment b/c steady hangout of GMU students & profs. Can get work done or just chill. Core base of staff keeps it solid & be a regular & they will know your name.
The coffee and food are amazing. They offer seasonal and speciality drinks and theyre usually delicious. Also the environment is very pleasant and welcoming for a coffee shop. Its an inviting space to sit down and chat over coffee or do some work. Also parking is very easy which is a major plus.
The spinach crossaint was so good. Coffee is good too.
