I stumbled upon this place by chance when my serpentine belt slipped off for the third time. The owner introduced himself by name and took his time to thoroughly explain to me why the belt kept slipping in such a short time after being replaced. Previously, nothing other than the belt was ever looked at. The belt and tensioner were replaced for A LOT less than I expected, the shop is super clean and the service is top-notch! New customer for life!

My husband and I were extremely impressed with the service and professionalism of The Car Doctor. We had a new water pump, serpentine belt, and a new tensioner pulley installed yesterday on our 2012 Toyota Sienna van. The repair completely solved our engine problem. Matt Bolton (the manager/co-owner) was the most knowledgeable, informative and straightforward car repair person that my husband and I have ever encountered (and we have been driving for nearly 50 years). This repair shop is family owned, and the best kept secret in the area. I have been a patron for 35+ years. The customer service is superb in every aspect ! Nirvana, I found it! A car doctor that actually fixes problems. Check engine light came on my 1995 Oldsmobile, I had taken the car to 5 other car repair establishment places. None of them solved the problem. The Car Doctor did and he explained why the Check Engine light came on in the first place in a manner in which I could understand and explain to my wife, who now knew everything about OBD-1 and car diagnostics due to hours watching YouTube. So when Matt at Car Doctor used the exact same terms she had heard on YouTube she understood what the problem was and what it was going to take to fix it.Matt and his team were thorough, professional and extremely detail oriented. A couple of days before a road trip my Ford was having trouble starting. I brought my car to Car Doctor hoping they could fix it up before I was due to hit the road. They were able to fit me in the next day and get everything sorted out. I hit the road on time and my car worked great the whole trip.

Arianne discussed with me the problems I was having and explained what the mechanics saw during inspection, then helped me decide on what repairs to prioritize. I took my car in for an oil change. Customer service and responsiveness was great. Thats where the positives end.The cost of the oil change was roughly $90. I typically pay $60 and so was surprised, but it was a convenient location for me. They said for the price they are going to look over the entire car for issues or other required maintenance work.When I returned to pick up the car, they asked when I last changed my oils and engine filter. If they indeed were inspecting the entire car, checking for a dirty engine filter is trivial. They could have definitely looked for signs of darkening of many of the fluids. So my guess is that nobody inspected anything beyond doing an oil change - which is fine, but then dont overcharge and claim you are inspecting the entire vehicle.Also, there is just a feeling of constant upsell. Looking for issues, recommending this, recommending that. My car hums. I maintain it well. Yet fluids, air filter, spark plugs all of a sudden came into play during this visit.The biggest problem though is that when I got home, I noticed a large, deep scratch, roughly 12 in length on the lower part of the car on the passenger side. My car is not new by any stretch and it has its fair share of scratches (mostly surface scratches only). But this is my pride and joy and I know every scratch on this car like the back of my hand. I see that side of the car every time I leave my house to go to my car. That scratch never existed before taking it to the Car Doctor.However, after some back and forth they said they had reviewed video, spoke to their technician, yada, yada, yada and that scratch wasnt there when it left the garage. So how did it get there? While driving home someone stuck out a screw driver and scratched my car? Bah.They did offer to introduce me to garages they know where I could possibly get a discounted rate to fix the scratch. I dont trust them or anyone they would introduce me to.In reviewing comments, I noticed that there have been others who have claimed damage to their vehicles. If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck ... you decide, but Im not going back.

We have been using the Car Doctor for decades and have been very happy with the quality of services we have received, their diagnostic services and their warranty. My husband dropped his car off for an oil change at his 8 am appointment. They called at 4 pm, still hadn’t done the oil change, and said that there was close to THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS worth of issues with the car. We had been experiencing zero issues and never even asked them to inspect the car, so we were floored. They went through the entire car from the brakes to the engine and recommended replacing more than a dozen things, which again we never asked them to look at, and none of the things the recommended would have been ones they just happened across when changing the oil.We took it elsewhere to get a second opinion. The dealership looked over everything in the car, specifically looking for the issues they told us about and found absolutely nothing wrong with it. These people are crooks!!!!!!! They just want money, even when things do not need to be replaced. Do not go here!Edited in response to the below response: Matt, you must be looking a different customers file. We were in two weeks ago, and my husband doesnt have the same last name as me, so you must be looking at a different profile, with the details you provided. We did not have any sort of oil leak, it was more than $1,000 just to fix one issue and as we had to take the car in before work, I assure you that it was 8 am, not 3 pm. The pricing was on the high side, but not unreasonable, but my objection is that your technician made it sound like it was barely safe to drive home, which was not the case. Nevertheless I do appreciate your response.

It had died (the battery) and I was in the unfortunate position of having to get it looked at without really getting to look around beforehand. Luckily I came across the Car Doctor and saw they had a ton of great reviews and decided this would be my best bet. And after having my car serviced here I now have a go-to that I dont have to even think twice about!Arianne walked me through the entire process and she could tell I was really anxious about how much it would cost plus how long it would take. She gave me updates throughout the process and afterward had given me an estimate of what my car might need in the future based on price and timeline. I never felt any pressure about being upsold and the price was what I had expected. I left with just the services I needed at the time and have a plan in place to get the remainder of the bigger ticket items knocked out over the coming year.***Bonus*** My Prius V has the back arranged for my doggie pack to have the maximum amount of space with the seats pulled up and some plyboards, rubber mat and blankets overtop for them to ride in comfort. Usually whenever I need to bring my car in at other car shops they throw everything back in there and I have to rearrange it back which I dont expect them to put back as its a lot of hassle. I was really floored that they had put the time to put everything back where it belonged, it was not expected on my part but definitely made my whole day that they took the extra time to do that for a customer.I will be coming here so long as Im living in the area; they are beyond professional in the services they provide, they treat you like family!

I was impressed with the attention the staff provided to my 1984 Nissan 300ZX. You will not be disappointed bringing your car here. Matt and Henry provided timely attentive and high-quality service. I bought my son an old vehicle—his first car. For safety reasons, I wanted a complete inspection to identify urgent repairs, as well as near term and long term maintenance. They did a thorough job and performed the required maintenance at a fair price. But it was all of the little extras that really impressed me: follow up phone calls, detailed mechanical discussions, patience answering all of my questions, and the great attitude, not to mention the personal note and goodies left in the vehicle!

The team at The Car Doctor is excellent! I could immediately tell how passionate and knowledgeable Matt is about cars. He took extra time to explain how certain functions worked on my car, and why specific services were necessary. Expert mechanics. I have been taking my vehicles to the Car Doctor for over 10 years and they have always been able to diagnose and repair my vehicles right the first time. Most impressive about my experience in having my cars repaired by the Car Doctor is their honesty in what work needs to be done. On one occasion, the right lower control arm needed to be replaced. I inquired about having both control arms replaced at the same time. I was told that replacing both control arms was not necessary and a waste of money. I came to The Car Doctor for a second opinion after my car failed state inspection elsewhere for an exhaust leak and was quoted $1000+ for a catalytic converter replacement. Im so glad I did because the guys here confirmed that I did have an exhaust leak and that it wasnt worth the money to completely replace the catalytic converter (my car is 15yo). They referred me to Meineke Car Care Center to have the leak welded instead. Ultimately, I paid 1/3 of the original quote and Ive never had a better experience at a garage. Im so happy that I found trusted local mechanics who I would highly recommend. Thanks guys!

These people seem very professional, helpful and kind at first glance but are far from that. I took my 2016 vehicle here for a state inspection with no obvious issues and was told I needed to shell out $1,500+ to fix parts that Ive never heard any concerns about from previous mechanics. They wouldnt pass my vehicle without fixing these things. It sounded VERY fishy.Sure enough, after taking it to TWO other mechanics, the only thing I had done was an oil change. After these issues (such as a worn motor mount) were not brought up, I asked the mechanics directly to analyze these parts. They said there were no issues whatsoever.Bottom line is that these people are dishonest and will be reported to the BBB. I wish I would have put a camera in my car. I do NOT recommend them.Pictures of inspection are listed as proof.

The Service Advisors have always treated me with respect, carefully explaining the repair or maintenance work required to keep my 14 year old car on the road. Finding a good, trustworthy shop is tough to do. Especially in the a big urban area like DC. I grew up in rural PA and it was simple to find a small, reliable, and honest shop. Not so much here. The Car Doctor is the exception to that rule.Our family has taken both of our cars (Honda Accord and Jeep Cherokee) here after finding it on Yelp. The Car Doctor has extremely honest, reliable, and efficient service. Steve always communicates to you like a normal person (not simply someone cutting a check) and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. They also will not take the easy (read: expensive) way out to take care of an issue.I am not a regular reviewer on Google or any other site for that matter. But we have had such good experiences here that we made it a point to share our thoughts. Reliable and helpful. I work nearby and they always hook me up with a ride to and from work after I drop-off the car. They call mid-day with updates to get authorization and give me a good run down not only of what I asked for, but what I might need or need to keep an eye on. Its always hard to find trustworthy and honest technicians in the service industry, but many of us find that to be especially true with mechanics. I was pleasantly surprised to have finally found MY mechanic in The Car Doctor. I first used the company because they are conveniently located right across the street from my apartment building and only 2 minutes away from my job, but I keep using them because I trust their diagnoses and I trust that theyll take care of me to the absolute best of their ability. Steve has always been fair, honest, straight-forward and quite a pleasure to work with. I find them to be competitively priced, although you cannot put a price on this level of service and care and the peace of mind I have when I leave my car with them!

So happy I was able to have them work on my brakes while I was in Radford for a couple days. I live in Northern, Va but was in town visiting a friend. The place I took my car to before gave me an outrageous price quote that I knew I couldnt trust. Luckily the car doctors did the same fix for a much, much more reasonable price. I recently moved from Vermont to Washington D.C. I have a 2013 Kia Optima with approximately 113,000 miles, and I let my car go FAR too long before getting service. I didnt want to go to the dealer and thought I would eventually get back to my 20-year-trusted mechanic back home. Well, when the brakes started grinding I turned to Yelp and found The Car Doctor. The experience was wonderful from the moment I walked into the moment they delivered my car back in perfect working order. The price seemed fair, and everything was explained in detail. The was no pressure, and I was given clear options as to what had to happen right away and what could wait. Having a mechanic, you can trust to both fix your car and not make you feel like an idiot is essential. Ive finally found mine here in the DMV!

I have brought our cars (VW, Honda, Ford, Inifiniti, Acura, Lexus, and Toyota) for the past 20+ years. What I value about The Car Doctor, through some transitions over the years is that I have ALWAYS been able to trust them. I bring them a laundry list of items the dealership says I need to repair and maybe 2-3 are actually required... and even on the two occasions when I had to bring the car back cause the repair did not seem to work... Steve has been more than fair in how they handled a second visit. Also, now that they match online tire prices (most of the time), I can get my tires from them too. This place is the epitome of great local/personal service. The best.
