Fast and neat. My daughter got box braids from Marlene’s by far one of the best braids salons. The styler took about 4 hours from start to finish. I did call to book again but they were out of the hair I needed for my style, but it had been ordered. They did however offer me $10 off if I brought my own hair. My daughters have had 2 styles apiece both were box braids and all different prices. They charge for length.

I love them. Theyre fast and worth the money. I got box braids and kept them in for 2 months. They still looked good when I took them out.

They overbooked. They allow all these people to walk in at 9am and dont have enough workers to braid people hair. Had people walking in and waiting 1.5 to 2 hours before they even started on their hair. They just say they have someone coming. This one lady left while her hair was being braided to get something to eat because her braider went to work on someone elses hair and it was taking too long. They have a website to make an appointment but they dont even follow it. Then after they do braid your hair and finish it and dip your hair in hot water, they dont even make sure your hair is dry so you are not walking out in the cold with wet hair and clothing. This is still Winter and a pandemic. They have people sitting close to one another with no social distancing. They just make you take off your shoes and wash your hands oh and you have to wear a mask.

I absolutely love how my hair turned out. After being in Madison for 2 years I have finally trusted someone here to do my hair. I am giving them 4 stars because they were a half hour late getting to the shop. My appointment was at 9:30am but they did not arrive until 10:00am. Also, there were 2 people braiding my hair and it took them 6 hours. When I typically get my hair braided in the same style the young lady only take 4 and she always braid alone (shop in Chicago). Other than that I appreciate the service.

I am middle of the road on this review because the stylists are talented but the professionalism leaves too much to be desired. They would do well do use a script or decent scheduler to discuss timing, reiterate costs, and inform clients when circumstances are different than their page like needing to provide supplies, only accepting cash, etc. They are a friendly bunch but I will likely refrain from booking again. Their price is nice but I am willing to pay a bit more for a quality experience overall.

They are good people and work hard. This shop lost three stars because of my experience today. I came in for a 11am appointment but they werent ready for me. I was asked to leave for an hour and then come back. When I came back I still had to wait another two hours. I asked the owner Marlene if I would be able to get a discount for the inconvenience and her reply was, For what?. I decided to leave unfortunately. My time was wasted and the owner wasnt willing to right that wrong. A o e hour wait was fine but a three hour wait couldnt help the owner understand my inconvenience. Shame. The entire point of me going was due to having a fractured wrist making it impossible for me to do my own hair without hurting myself.

Bad service I brought my own hair in lady said it would be 80 dollars she starts on my hair and says 120will be the price the she did half of my hair put it in a ponytail and said she was done I took my hair out the ponytail and then whole inside was. Not done I went back two days to get my hair done WILL NEVER GO BACK AND WONT TELL A FRIEND I AM FROM CALIFORNIA WE DONT DO WORK LIKE THAT 😣😣SAD HOW WE DO EACH OTHERS

Normally my crochet braids is 80.00 and I bring my own hair, the last time I was there in April 2019 I was told 140.00 for that style. went back and forth with her and finally ended up with the 80.00 yet still being told on how long it takes to do it, and a bunch of lies. And still was told well you can go to the ATM in copps and use it. I want you to know this all these comments ON HERE are true, nobodys lying when they speak of your services and unprofessionalism, but MY MAIN REASON FOR THIS REVIEW IS THIS: EVERY BODY DONT HAVE A JOB, AND EVERYBODY DONT HAVE MONEY, AND SOME OF US ARE ON A BUDGET, AND TO REALLY PUT IT OUT THERE SOME OF US GET A CHECK ONCE A MONTH AND CANT AFFORD TO BE CHEATED OR TO GET THEIR HAIR DONE PERIOD. Horrible job on my daughter crochet. Rude when I tried to explain issue, agreed to fix and then put nail glue in instead of doing as I asked. I will be taking to small claims court of my daughters hair comes out due to nail glue being used instead of hair glue.I would not recommend them to anyone. I felt very uncomfortable being confronted and not listed to.OhAnd had my ten year old waiting 2 hours before they even started her hair!!!

Enter this establishment at your own risk. This a well intentioned warning to all of those considering going to this salon— salon however I am now realizing is too generous a title for what this place actually is.To start, communication is non existent. I was told to text in my style and I would be told how much it cost only to receive radio silence from there end. I was forced to withdraw, in cash because they haven’t yet joined the 21st century in accepting pay pal, Venmo, cash app etc., an amount that I assumed would be correct. I came into the salon and was told that my hair needed to be straightened in order to do the style. I conformed and went with the style thought I was best suited for, but considering I showed them what I wanted prior to my appointment, they could have told me this information and I would have come in with straight hair or changed the style I wanted before I walked in.Now we get to the actual braiding. This is where the debacle truly begins and does not cease until you leave the premises. I was essentially assulted from three different directions pulling my hair out until I finally could not take the pain anymore. Then, they went on to blow dry my BONE DRY hair. IF they wanted to blow it out, they should have offered to wash it. I would have gladly paid extra instead of having my hair burnt and smoking from a blow dryer that is clearly malfunctioning. The actual box braid style is way too close to the scalp. I am now facing inevitable hair loss. I have been to many shops, and how flus these braids are to the scalp combined with the tightness is not only bad for the hair, but can lead to tension alopica and scarring amongst myriad of other things.Once you get past all of that, you have to sit in the chair and listen to these ladies talk about you in front of you. They think they can get their snyed remarks under the radar because they speak French, but it doesn’t take a linguist to figure out from tone and body language that they are talking ill of all of their customers. The chairs are delapitated, as well as the whole place, and they basically will break your neck yanking you off of a chair that clearly has no support, then will yell at you telling you “you’re gonna mess up your neck”.The customer shaming that goes on in this salon is disgusting and unprofessional. I wish I could give them less than one star, but here we are. My true rating is a -2/5. If you like being man handled, talked about, and also love condesension, this is the shop for you!

This place is a GEM!I didnt realize that Marlenes shop moved from the West Towne to Fitchburg.The shop is located in Arbor Hills apartment which confused the hell out of me and my GPS.Other than getting lost ... I enjoyed getting my hair done here and will be back.Great sew in... Two people braided my hair ( which was a first for me and I will NEVER go back) which made my visit to the shop under 2 1/2 hrs.Best place in Madison to get a sew in.The only suggestion I would offer it to get a sign.

I took out my braids after only a month. I asked for box braids and her associates used little of my natural hair for the braided extensions. I ended up loosing not only patches of my hair but hair follicles too.

Dont get me wrong they do a great job braiding hair. But they dont do a very good job of scheduling. I called and they told me I could get my hair done at 11 am. I waited 2 hours before someone started my hair. Im not very happy with the unorganization!!

A major over charge to do basic corn rolls $50. A complete rip off. I walked out on they ass.

First, they didnt actually start my hair until and hour and a half after my appointment because they were late opening up the shop and werent prepared. Two different people twisted two different ways and about a week after I got my hair done, the twists began to unravel. I would not recommend this shop at all.

My wife got her hair done a few weeks ago and when she came out she was not pleased a new girl was working on her hair and started the braiding wrong so she had to start over another woman had to keep fixing the new girls mistake and really didnt do the best job like the woman who did it a few months before which it turned out well then so when she came out it just didnt look well I told her to go back in and she said its no use the damage is done very unhappy with the job we were just going to keep it in for as long as possible since we paid and just not go there again the problem is as Im taking her hair down right now we are going to have to cut a lot of it off just to get the horrible braiding job out she has tangled her hair into the braiding hair so bad that it is literally tied to it we have been sitting here for 2 hours trying to remove it without cutting I would never take my wife back here we pay to have something done correctly and not only was it not correct but it was very poorly done now her hair has to be cut on top of the money we paid to get this horrible job done

THE STAFF BRINGS THEIR CRYING CHILDREN INTO WORK AND THEY RUNNING AROUND. THE STAFF DOES NOT WASH THEIR HANDS. THEY DROP THEIR COMB ON THE FLOOR AND PICK IT UP AND REUSE IT ON YOUR HAIR. THEY DO NOT STERILIZE ANY OF THEIR COMBS AND BRUSHES. THERE IS A HUGE LANGUAGE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE POOR HYGIENE. WORST PLACE TO GO IN MADISON
