Yesterday 8/26 around 1:30pm, I drove an extra 20 minutes to check on what lumber and rates Sears Trostel had vs going to a big box store as I wanted some advice. When I arrived, the two guys working did not acknowledge me when I walked in and I was the only customer there. After about 15 min, I walked over to one guy and asked him if he could help me with some knowledge on lumber. This staff member not only did not seem like he wanted to help, but either he didn’t know or didn’t want to help me on advice for lumber. When I asked him about rates, and more about what I was looking for, he told me exactly what was on the tag- which I could clearly see. After excitedly sharing with him what I was building, he proceeded to tell me that they didn’t really carry anything like redwood (which could be true, but offered me no alternatives). When I mentioned the rate I was looking for and the box store that it was from, he sort of laughed and said to go with that then. It left me disappointed, frustrated and irritated. I want to support shops such as this. I go to places like this for advice and friendly service. Maybe it’s asking too much for staff to be friendly, but at least answer my questions and attempt to help. Not only was there no advice, which could be lack of experience, but the customer service was unacceptable.

Good selection of hardwoods and exotic. They ran out of Spanish cedar though so youll have to go to Denver for that if you live in Fort Collins. They said they arent planning on ordering anymore last time I asked.

What a great find this place was! We were looking for a place in northern Colorado that carries beetle kill wood for a project we were working on and came across them in our online search.They have a great selection of hardwoods, woodworking tools, equipment and supplies, etc. and service is friendly.This place is a million times more pleasant to shop at than Home Depot or Lowes and youll get better quality as well. If youre renovating or are a DIYer or are into woodworking, this place is definitely worth checking out!

Pulled in for a pick up and there no signs saying anything. So I pulled up and said I have a pick-up and everything has been paid for. Theres 3 people just standing there looking at me like I dont know what Im doing, and I dont because I have never been here. I asked the gentleman about my pick-up and he made me feel very uncomfortable, was rude when talking with me. I almost want to refund my purchase and go somewhere else. A little courtesy goes a long way. I can say that if I didnt need the things I ordered I would definitely refund it and go somewhere else. I definitely do not recommend going here.

They have an incredible selection of domestic and exotic woods. The staff is always friendly and helpful. If you are doing anything with wood in Fort Collins this should be your first stop.

Awesome staff that’s very knowledgeable and able to guide you through getting the right materials for your project. Selection of wood and experience is second to none. Greatly appreciate their willingness to point you to other locations if they don’t have or unable to do what you’re looking to do. Definitely will be my #1 stop for any time I need any materials the home. Due wish they carried some construction lumber as well. If they did, I could see that being the perfect 1 stop lumber yard. Sears Trostel is an exceptional store and staff!

Every time I come in here. EVERY time I come in here the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I even accidentally showed up three minutes before close (sorry!) and they never once rushed us and more than took care of us. They give great advice, and they don’t talk down to you either. They know their stuff.

Super disappointed. We ordered cured hickory for desks. Initially they were beautiful and stained beautifully. It wasn’t long before we realized they weren’t cured properly and most of the desks warped badly. One desk warped before staining so it was sent back to cure longer and ST glued horizontal ends to the table to help pull out the warp. It looked fine when it came back, but after it was stained and it sat in the office, it cracked down the center because it still wasn’t cured enough. We invested about $5000 on the hickory in total; we created desks and shelves with it. Everything has warped. Be wary if you order or purchase anything from ST, it may not be completely cured.

Nice wood but overpriced, and didnt honor the price we bought the wood at upon return. We recently bought walnut for trim in 4 lengths. They led us to believe they had light walnut but when getting it home it was the same dark walnut Home Depot sells so we returned it to exchange for lighter boards, albeit a month later, and they said they changed their rules on the length of wood from 4 to 6, so we ended up paying nearly $200 more for the same amount of needed wood that we bought in the first place, and we had to pick thru dark walnut to find the lightest boards. We went to them specifically for the lighter wood which they assured us they had from the beginning. Very disappointing.

They always have what I need, yet I also know they can order or make about anything that I might need. From just little to a whole bunch they can help you, especially if you let them know in advance. I have shopped at Sears Trostel since 1995, yes I remember when they were downtown, this store is great too. Thanks Sears Trostel for showing what old time customer service really looks like today!!

Out of stock on 2 common items, very disappointing. Both 1/2 and 1/4 melamine hard rock maple sheets were out of stock. I was there on Friday and told no hope until at least Tuesday. I drove up from Longmont because I can get what I need, but not this time. Found the product elsewhere.

Had never heard of this place, but stopped in to pick up some special wood stain that google told me only this store had in town. I was so pleasantly surprised by the whole experience that I cant wait for an excuse to go back! The customer service was exemplary...they didnt just point me in the direction of where the stain was, but they waited and helped while I considered color choices, explained the technique for using it, made sure I had all supplies I would need, etc. All the while making friendly jokes and chit chat.This reminds me of those specialized stores of my childhood of which there are so few nowadays. Lost in the world of Big Box stores, its easy to forget what its like to shop in a place where they do one thing and do it really well. Well be doing a DIY fireplace mantle/surround soon and this is where Ill be headed for everything well need!

Service and a good selection of tools, hardwoods and hardwood ply products sets Sears and Trostel well apart from other DIY places. There is the most complete Festool selection I have seen at a brick- and- mortar site, a good Kreg selection, and some novel fastners. Not a lot on the sharpened tool side, but many items I have not seen at either the downmarket (Home Depot, etc.) or upmarket (Woodcraft Supply, etc.) sides. The selection of quartersawn white oak was pretty picked- over, as was the 6/4 regular white oak stock, but Im sure that when they have a new shipment itll be fine. Theres a huge selection of hardwood ply products. There are many slabs, mostly smaller and modest sizes, not dining room table sized, but as with the raw board stock, all at very reasonable prices. The small - projects hobbyist will rejoice that they have lots of small hardwood pieces in bins at bargain prices.The staff are very knowledgable and helpful. This is a great find.
