The associate that helped me in store was courteous but not so knowledgeable. I called in advance and was told there were several of the item I needed and 15 minutes later there was only 1 in the size I specified which tells me they only checked for the item and not the size.

If you want to buy a pistol, trigger locks due not come off to test trigger pull and there are no refunds. Was told to go rent one, try it and then come back if I wanted the same gun. Great store to buy from but REALLY?

Its a great mini-version of Academy.

I always rely on Acadamy when looking for sporting goods. I recently purchased a kayak, at the Galveston store, and the service was very helpful assisting with checkout.

For an academy in a beach/boating community there was a surprisingly small selection of life vest for kids. Plenty for adults. That said they were scattered all over the small shelf space. To figure out the price you had to walk a few aisles over to the price checker, but at least it worked.

I love Academy. And the crew here is cool as all get out. Drop in, gets some stuff.

This store is across from the beach and dont sell surf rods they dont sell body boards. Very limited supply of anything you may want at the beach. Might as well just close down this un useful location.

One stop shop for all my fishing, grilling and beach gear. Easy access from Seawall and plenty of parking. Great customer service every time I come in.

Clean store and friendly employees, but I wish theyd update their website inventory system. Their website specifically said they had something in stock at this specific location, and we drove 30 minutes just to find that they didnt have it.

This Academy was very helpful and relentless. I saw a product online that shouldve been in the store. The salesperson and manager looked all over the store for it. For some reason they couldnt find it. I forgot to get the names of the people who helped me. I know the manager was in a wheelchair. The staff made sure that I left with a replacement that I was grateful for. God bless the people at this location.

The footwear department wasnt very helpful and redirected me to the front of the store for a price check on some shoes. However, Karen was very helpful and apologized for the inconvenience.

One of the smaller Academy stores but well stocked. Very crowded and busy on the Easter weekend. Unfortunately this being Texas, only about half the customers were wearing mask although the store had mask signs up.

Easy to notice from the street and Seawall in normal traffic. Wheelchair accessible parking lot structure, entrances and restrooms. It was an awesome experience for me. Courteous staff and employees abound. Face masks required. Plastic partition guards were utilized well between cashiers and customers. Cash, credit and debit cards accepted here. Vast array of recreational and other necessary outdoors merchandise was instock and available.

So I came here today (Galveston location) to buy an air mattress and ammo. These three stars go to: Jaime the cashier who checked me out at the customer service booth for the ammo and the elder worker who walked by me and offered to take my heavy air mattress to the front of the store to allow me to continue shopping. Just so there is no confusion, After taking the ammo to my vehicle I went back into the store to buy an air mattress.The lack of the other two stars is due to the cashier (tall white male) telling me as I check out that I couldnt bring the air mattress back if I open it. Stereotypically, he stated there are a lot of people that try to use the mattress for one night and bring it back. Took a lot out of me not to put it back and walk away. I know I needed a new mattress for our family spring break camping trip since my old air mattress is about 7 years old and has been patched up several times. Ive bought 4 air mattress from Academy in the past and has never been told that. I felt like he was basically putting me in a one shoe fit all type of box. I guess I fit the description.Just a few things to be clear on:1st of all, if I buy a defective air mattress its going to be returned period! Secondly, my sister in law bought her air mattress the same day but at a different location and she said the cashier didnt say that to her. Thirdly, Academy please find another way to train your staff on what to say for returns. That was tasteless and offensive. I shouldve bought the air mattress on Amazon and had it delivered but since I was buying ammo I figured Id kill two birds with one stone. Geeze how I love Amazon and their customer service!!!

Sarah was very helpful. She spent time explaining why certain hooks, weights, bobbers and tackle were good. She even drew pictures of how to place the weights and bobber.

Not much in their womens plus size apparel, better off going to Webster location.

Limited selection but understandable. They strung my reel for me but when attaching back to rod the bolt want put on correctly causing the head to stick up and catch the line when casting. I spent about 2 hours messing with tables and cussing a storm. 2 hours of vacation time meant a lot, instead of catching fish i caught a heap of stress and frustration....... While having my line strung the guy asked if he could strung another customers line because a lot easier and faster. Well thats great for him, but what about me??

If your over weight and you have unlimited funds or on a budget then this is the spot to buy XXL-XXXL Sizes. Nowhere else on the island can they help us big guys or gals. Magellan has some good Sun/ UV Protection shirts. Their customer service is stellar when a woman helps you. The guys, not so much.

Probably one of the smallest Academys Ive seen. Bit Im giving them a 3 star because every time we go there not only do they seem way understaffed. The employees are very unmotivated and its like pulling teeth to get a little help... not to mention they complain about their jobs.

Had ordered some rollerskates as a Christmas present and was sent the wrong size.When they were shipped to me I did not receive a packing slip so it made it difficult to return them. I went to store to try and get the right size I explain I did not recieve a packing slip...cashier advised someone was looking up shipment, I asked how if no one knew my name?? Wasted my time! Im the end I was given refund!

Very low stock on products we were looking for. Not enough employees working in any department. Being that there are more people here in Galveston on the weekends you would figure they would be more associates to help customers.

I love this Academys in general but Luis younger man made me feel as if I was a bother. I was upgrading my fishing license simple. He was not friendly and didn’t say much. To me if you work at a place that provides customer service have a smile on and be friendly. I spend almost $200 dollars there, just to be treated as a bother is not right!

Its like the apocalypse in here. This used to be my favorite Academy EVER. So many beach essentials but today they were cleaned out of EVERYTHING... and I mean everything. Ill reevaluate next year when its not a pandemic.
