This place has the best mochi and manju. Fresh, soft and so delicious. Ive been eating these since I was a kid and Ive never had any better.
We picked up some mochi gashi and it was so soft, fresh and delicious! Small shop but they are absolutely the bomb.
Smooth mochi with smooth bean filling! The store is unassuming on the outside with almost no signage. The inside is minimally furnished or decorated. The sign on the table explains what each mochi is with flavors and fillings. This is comparable to the store in San Jose California.Free street parking, cash only.
It’s definitely a hole in the wall, mom and pop style traditional (or historic?) mochi store. I was told that the family business has been around for 58years, and the current owners are the second generation.Their mochi and manju tasted very fresh and flavorful. You can tell that they only make small portion of their produce each day which I appreciate. You can tell it’s all about the quality!! 👍🏻
Great when you can eat it right away. We love eating them fresh! Just wish they took credit cards, especially during Covid. Hate having to make another stop just to get cash.
A real treat.
One of 3 best known Japanese mochi shops in LA area (Chikara Mochi in Gardena and Fugetsu-Do in Little Tokyo) . Each have their own devoted fans. Personally I like the texture and taste of Sakuraya more than other 2. The store does not look like much from the outside, but the mochi they make are wonderful.Chikara Mochi is located just few steps away, literally like 15 seconds walk. I honestly would recommend anyone whos never been to either shop to get couple pieces from each shop and decide which they like better, then go back to buy more. Because, lets be honest, who in the world eats only one piece of mochi, right?Fugetsu-Do in Little Tokyo has been around for more than 100 years. If you ever visit Little Tokyo in LA, go visit them!!
This place has been around since 1960. They have a good variety of mochi and manju. Not as extensive as one would think, but what they do, they do very well. Their mochi is always so soft and made fresh every day. Simply put, nothing can compare.
Best Mochi, and Manju in Los Angeles. Cash Only. Try it
Real down home welcoming place. The Obaa-chan that helped us was very very friendly. For the price, you get QUALITY, FRIENDLY, COURTEOUS MANJU. Well worth the stop!!! ENJOY!!!
Delicious mochi in an unassuming, very mom&pop location. Pull up and park in front of the shop, don’t be intimidated by the plain exterior, and have cash ready for a wonderful assortment! You can’t go wrong with getting “one of each” though I always leave with extra of that soft, pillowy chi-chi dango. There are so few mochi shops left in California (in the Bay Area, I think there are only 2 - one in SF Japantown and the other in San Jose Japantown). This is one of the rare gems in SoCal besides Fugetsu-do and Chikara down the street (not counting Mikawaya because I think they only do mochi ice cream?).
No frill, no fuss, old school small place. It is a must stop place for us as we -- particularly the boys, love the mochi. Cash.
Manju is fresh... Luv this place... Yum
Very honest and the mochi was super good
Enjoyed the mochi, but be aware cash, no charge
Mochi is very fresh
THE best mochi and manju Ive found in the greater LA area (the orange manju is our favorite!). My Japanese-American in-laws tipped us off to this place. Its an unassuming hole-in-the-wall, so dont be put off. Late in the day they may be out of the yummies, so come early if you can, or call ahead and order. Cash or check only.

Wonderful food, service was great
The place to go!!! Sooooo goooood!!!
Drove all the way from So. OC. Not much variety and only accepts cash or checks.
If you want to have traditional Japanese mochi, go to Sakuraya. It melts in your mouth as soft as the skin of your baby.
