I was completely disappointed... its been well over 7yrs since Ive been to Bates, the fish market that I usually go to closed for the night so I remembered Bates was near. Big mistake! I ordered fried shrimp and a side (hushpuppies) once I get there the guy hands me an order of grilled shrimp, ok Ill take it (1 cause I was ready to drive home, 2 grilled is always better than fried (weight wise) but in the back of my mind I really wanted fried food. The young man offered a free drink and no charge for the grilled shrimp ($1.00 for grilled) the jumbo shrimp looked more like medium and for the price of $14.00 I only received 10 shrimp. Yeah Im good Bates... I wont be back!

Used to be my favorite but the quality has gone now ( and prices up) and they change their french fries every time I come I get a different kind..One wk theyre crinkle cut, and next week theyre straight fries.. The crinkle fries taste like theyre frozen generic french fries and theyre nasty.. They use NO seasoning on the fries...not even salt...3 filet of sole dinners with ONE side of 10 medium 🍤 that were more like small shrimp cost me $55..Looking for another fish market...

I was highly disappointed on my last visit a couple of days ago! This used to be one of my favorite fish markets, but on my last order, my fish was old, dried up and cooked in old grease!😖 I could tell even before I bit into it. I just threw the entire order away except for the red beans which was the only thing decent in the order.👎My recommendation now would be Fish Bone Seafood. Their seafood is ALWAYS fresh and you can have it cooked a different way other than fried.🤗

I placed a semi large order which included a 3 piece lunch special, fish of choice being catfish fillet and it was delicious. Also included in that particular order was an 8-piece family meal of sand dabs and catfish mix, 15 medium shrimp and 2 medium sides, I opted for macaroni salad and French fries. I also placed 2 side orders of hush puppies and 2 prawns. Let me just say, all of our food was cooked with love. The taste was exceptional, my palate was very pleased. The food had a fresh taste and it was made to order. Our order was promised and delivered within 20 minutes and I walked in in case of any questions.

Weve been buying fried fish from bates since I was in elementary school 30 to 40 years ago... and I think that speaks for itself. Fresh clean oil is changed and used often. Real cooks know what Im talking about!

Their seafood is always fresh & the service is great. The down side is the parking. The lot is shared by about 5 other businesses including a laundromat, barber shop, donut shop, mini market & Louisiana chicken place which makes parking a challenge at times.

I love this place. Its one of, if not, the best fish markets I have been to. The flavor, portions, and combinations available are perfect. I struggle to find what I want in a combination at other fish markets, and their flavor just isnt as good as Bates. I highly recommend this place, as most probably do who continue to come back week after week.

Discovered this place about 3 weeks ago.Best fresh GRilled butter garlic catfish. And the shrimp actually taste like shrimp. Love their fried seasoned batter. Wont be going back to my usual fish fry place.

Tried this spot out for the first time and I will be coming back. Love the shrimp and the grilled fish over rice! Aka you like butter garlic? This is the spot for grilled fish. Just let them know you want it grilled tho - Thanks for the great service too

Good fried fish thats fresh and flavorful. Not greasy. Light and perfectly fried or grilled to the customers liking. Good desserts to take home with your meal. Sides for something either simple like a salad, fries or hush puppies. To macaroni salad, potatoe salad or even adding that small touch of soul food when it comes to the red beans and rice and the freshly made batch of collard greens (they make every morning before opening). To have with your fish option, oysters or shrimp lunch or dinner specials, or combinations. Love the greens and grilled fish and shrimp option. Been a customer since 2011...havent gone any where else in the area since

Ive only been here twice not sure why Ive been living walking distance for 3 years and never knew about Bates but when I say the staff is awesome I mean AWESOME....They had me soon as I walked in the door and what really topped it off my food was the BOMB💣💣💣💣 fish and shrimp cooked to perfection...Im never going anywhere else.....the only thing is I dont like the tartar sauce packages I think they should provide the tartar in the clear containers just a minor suggestion...

We werent told that they charge $1 to grill your food, an extra dollar for extra garlic butter & they forgot to put the sides in the bag ... The fried shrimp were great tho

It was my first time there, i was looking for a new fish place. Fish was good. The staff was very nice and patient. I would advise you call your order in if your in a hurry. Looks like i found my new place for fish.

I am so disappointed to give this place such a low score because Im a huge fan normally. I like the 4x4 with catfish!!! This time though, the fish was super overcooked. It usually is crispy on the outside with soft flaky fish on the inside. So amazing!!! But yesterday the fish tasted like scrap pieces fried in old oil. They are normally really good and would receive a 4 star rating from me. But alas, i am heartbroken by the subpar product this time

People are courteous, attentive, and very welcoming. The food is phenomenal!!!! I travel a lot and o n occasion experience really good food. The fish from Bates is extremely well prepared, well seasoned, and especially, nice proportions. I cant say enough regarding how well pleased I am overall.

The food was good, the prices were usable and we didnt have to wait very long.

No frills, straight to the point fish joint. The guy at the counter is very knowledgeable. He told us to try a fillet of fish Id never heard of, and it was super good.

I havent been here In over 10 years. I was raised on the fish market because my mom worked In The same shopping center when the nail shop was a beauty salon. Every Friday we would order red snapper and filet sole. This place sits in the corner of this little plaza but small or not the fish Is fresh and taste great. Customer service was even great not that I wasnt expecting it to be but it was more than what I expected. All three gentlemen that where in there from the person that took my order to the person that processed my payment to the cook were all genuinely nice and respectful. You know how sometimes you go into a place and they are having a personal conversation which is super inappropriate and youre thinking to yourself omg why are they talking about that? It was very refreshing because These guys seem like they enjoyed being at their job and they seem to be having fun, laughing, smiling and actually having respectful conversations between each other and with customers. I appreciate them for using my name to let me know my order was ready and not the number on the ticket. Please acknowledge them young men that were working Friday afternoon they really deserve the kudos!!.My thing is always parking. Parking is ok. Its enough for the small shopping center. Im sure in the evenings it might become congested but daytime was good.Did I say the fish is amazing?! Oh yes I did! . I recommend this fish market if you are in the area its the best one Ive been to in a long time.

Its ok. Its not what it used to be. The service was good. Staff was nice. I ordered a 3 piece fish but 10 piece shrimp and the shrimp were small. I asked for extra seasoning but my fish was still bland. The hushpuppies were good. I mean if you want fried fish, it satisfied the craving but I was underwhelmed

This market was a pleasant surprise. I had never heard of it and my friend said, why dont we go to Bates Fish Market, since were in the area. This fish is fried fish and it is done to perfection and it smells so good and the taste matches the smell. All the customers that day said that they had been coming to this market since they were children! Parking is tough but worth the hassle. You cant eat-in, it is a to-go market but the trip is worth it in terms of being satisfied with your meal.

The fish tasted like it was cooked in old grease and had no flavor. I was reminded why I stopped buying fish there years ago even though it is the closest fish market to my house.

I loved my red snapper lunch. It was crisp and well seasoned. My fries were hot. Everything was ready in the 15 mins they promised and the staff was super friendly.

Ive been going to Bates over 25 years as a family Friday type of traditional thing. My dad used to go fishing and bring home fresh fish.....that is until we discovered bates and the rest is history.
