I love everything about My Music Store. Its one of the last great, small music stores around. Jim is always easy to talk to and deal with. I found an mid-50s baritone ukulele there last year for dirt cheap. It played and sounded better than the $1,200 Martin I was about to buy at another music store but for a lot less money! Whenever Im at the Golden Valley Shopping Center I always stop in to see whats new, then I go to Morts deli.

I visited My Music Store for the first time today. I had heard that they were running a sale on ukuleles. Wow, what a sale it was...half off any ukulele they had in stock. Both of my kids play string instruments but as a saxophonist I am nearly clueless when it comes to what makes a good string instrument. Jim was exceptionally helpful at educating me on the basics. I walked out of there with a beautiful ukulele, a very nice case, and an amp all at a wonderful price. Thank you, Jim. There is no doubt that Ill be returning.

A great local music store!! Whenever I need something no other store has, like an odd size amplifier tube, they seem to have it. They always have some gems, and the staff is always honest, friendly, and helpful.

This place will rip you off! Beware. This guy makes his money buying and selling musical instruments to uninformed musicians. I have been playing the saxophone for 15+ years. I went in with intentions to purchase an intermediate lever tenor sax (in fact I purchased one the following day.) Jim, the owner, showed me two very cheap beginner level saxes, one of which the D didnt even play. I told him these were no good and asked to see something better and he told me it was my fault and I needed to warm up more. I was in the practice room for over an hour trying out these saxes! I dont know how much more warming up I could have needed! Also, Jim gave me a quote for my Conn 22M tenor of $200.00 and I came back the next day because I purchased a Jupiter off Craigslist and wanted to get that horn off my hands and he wouldnt buy the sax because he said that offer was only good for a trade. He lost my business for good. What a scam artist. Please if you are buying your 6th grader an instrument dont trust what he will try to sell you.

Grossly overpriced. Ive been here a few times over the last few years and I think maybe Ive only bought strings.Im not paying $20 for an off brand generic capo. Also, guitar selection isnt really that good at all. Also, they put signs to ask for assistance if you want to take down the nice guitars and play. This is not an inviting atmosphere for customers at all.Youre basically assuming Im going to destroy your merchandise, which is ridiculous. The guitars arent THAT nice to warrant that type of behavior. Its one of those music stores where its really quiet when you walk in and you feel like its almost wrong to ask to try anything out.GC may suck, but at least they arent all suspicious of your intentions. I think most people know that if you break it you buy it, you dont need to post a condescending sign. Ive been playing guitar since I was in 4th grade.

I went to this store on my lunch break and was totally ignored by the staff. No one greeted me or acknowledged me. They were too busy helping other customers. Couldnt even say Hi to me. I guess if you dont look like the guitar playing type, they will brush you off. Fine, if they dont want my business, Ill go somewhere else. GC may be overrated, but at least they want and appreciate my business. This place does not want my business.

I am an professional musician who searches around for the best instrument deals anywhere. In my searches within the Twin Cities area, I have not found a better Mom and Pop shop than My Music Store - great service, very honest, great gear, really nice people, they offer lessons (my kids have been going there for years) totally willing to answer questions about anything without pretense. Ive been going here (and all the other shops in Twin Cities) for many years and have never had any issues with this shop. Ive purchased a lot of lemons from the Guitar Center (The Walmart of instrument dealers) and with GC, you can have a really nice guy sell you a guitar, then come back because of an issue and have that same guy no longer work there the next day. At My Music Store, if I buy a guitar or drum set or any instrument and theres an issue they will do whatever possible to make the customer happy! Jim the owner is the most honest and personable instrument dealer around, hes a complete expert in instruments from the early 1900s to current, and knows all the distributors personally. You dont get as knowledgeable as Jim has without positivity and care for people around you and a gift for gab! I love this store! I am a life long customer!

Just recently brought in 2 Yamaha acoustics. Both F series, one dreadnaught, and one folk size for setups. Both guitars werent bad out of the box originally, but wanted to see what a professional setup would do to these guitars. I couldnt be happier. Saddles were shaven down, necks were tweaked, tuners tightened, fretboard cleaned up, new strings. Both guitars play like butter now. Even the dreadnaught with medium strings. Huge difference in playability. Great job guys!

I live in Houston but when I visit the TCs, My Music Store is a must stop. A few times, Ive stopped in just to check out the gear and talk to Jim (a walking encylopedia of gear) and end up buying a guitar. This visit netted a used Peavey Wolfgang and I couldnt be happier. Cant wait to get it home and explore the possibilities. :)

Got a new Epiphone Nighthawk that needed a setup and wanted to let go of my starter Ibanez. Right out of the gate I told Ronan that Id be happy to either get a little off the setup or if that wouldnt work I really just wanted them to find a new home for it. Instead of taking advantage of me and just taking the guitar and charging me for the setup they gave me a wonderful deal. I ended up with a setup, strap, and picks at no cost to me as well as a deeply discounted gig bag for my parlor acoustic. Both Mike and Ronan were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Really just seemed like all around cool guys! The store itself seems to have some of the less common brands, however you will find fenders and gibsons on the walls. They are also capable of ordering stuff if you have your heart set on something specific. Finally the setup is amazing! Mike did a killer job getting it intonated and lowering the action to a comfortable level. I can say without a doubt that the guitar went from playable to plays like butter. If youre looking for a music store that has great employees and that will treat you like a human being instead of a profit margin definitely check My Music Store out!
