Love House Rules! I’ve been coming here since they were still a beer cellar and the energy and kindness of the staff has stayed throughout.On personal visits I am always impressed with the selection of drinks in the cooler and the variety of games to play.After a 12-person work outing to the game lounge, I’m even more impressed. Brian, Alexis, and everyone else there were so helpful when teaching us how to play a few games. Highly recommend for a team outing!

Love this bar! Both the people and the atmosphere are warm and welcoming, and the selection of games to play at a table is huge! The food and drinks are great too. Ill definitely be coming back, probably with friends. 😁❤

Friendly staff, great atmosphere, awesome selection of craft beers and games! The draft menu is well laid out and color-coded by type so its not too overwhelming. Reserving a table is recommended for gaming on high traffic nights as the place is usually full. The limited food/menu options arent a problem with the Downtown Market across the street. Stop in, get a beverage and learn a new game!

The house rules game team was awesome, the game selection was incredibly expansive. 10/10, got to play games that I hadnt in a long time.Suggestion: If at all possible, it would be awesome if there was an easier way to locate games. however I understand that that may not be feasible.

All of the staff are so friendly and helpful with game and drink recommendations. If youve already had every beer on tap there is even a cooler the size of some small liquor stores packed with OTHER great beers. They had a Euchre tournament the night we were there (Thursday) and, although we didnt play in it, everyone was having a great time meeting new people and competing for cash prizes. The board game selection is extensive and has something for everyone to try. We went back the next day and well be back every time we head to Grand Rapids.

Made the mistake of not making a reservation (who knew) but they worked us in. We brought our own games, but they have an amazing selection! Trogdor the board game?! Who knew.I recommend their Bloody Mary (drink). It is perfectly average for a perfectly average price. Delicious.

Great beer selection and the bartenders are awesome and attentive. I’m not a board game person but the selection appears to be impressive. Fully stocked beer fridge for take out or to enjoy at the bar (also 16 taps!).

Great place! Nick taught my husband and I to play an awesome new game, all while drinking (definitely too many) delicious cocktails and glasses of beer.The warm chocolate cookie was a perfect ending!

Enjoyed some locaL Brews and some fun in here on a cold afternoon.

Staff was warm, welcoming and friendly. Helped us out with everything from beer choices to rules on certain games. The selection of things to play was huge and theres enough space to never feel crowded. We went in the afternoon and returned the same night because the concept and execution were so much fun.

Great experience for our first time! A nice atmosphere, huge selection of games to play, bigger selection up buy, and a great drink selection. Id love to see them stay open later and have some more hot food available💗

Great place to play board games and get drinks! Nice chill vibe with reasonable drink prices. They dont have much for food but you can bring in your own food or have food delivered.

Very fun atmosphere with almost every game you can think of to sit and play, with a full bar plus coolers of a large variety of canned/ bottled options. Spent hours here

I have two things to say with the first being a HUGE shoutout to everyone at House Rules for helping me surprise my girlfriend with a trip there for her birthday! They seriously went out of their way to make sure the table looked AMAZING and even let me drop off some stuff early to have ready for when we arrived. Both her and I loved all the little touches they added and it really put the experience over the top and I just wish I would have been smart enough to take a picture of the table before I left...The second thing is that being a fairly recent transplant from Austin, TX (where they have a few board game bars around the city) House Rules is the best execution of this concept that Ive been to hands down!As someone who for years attended weekly (if not twice weekly) board game/D&D nights at those other board game bars in Austin, its nice to know that I have a new go to place and I honestly cant wait to go back asap!

They have a huge collection of games to play and to buy along with a great selection of drinks and snacks. A perfect place to spend some time with board game loving friends.

My fiance and son and I have become regulars here. It’s a great spot and there’s a very wide variety of drinks to choose from. They’re also always really friendly with Alfred, our pup. It’s such a versatile spot. If you want family time during the day or a fun date or place to hang out with friends at night, you can have all of that here. And there are a ton of games to choose from, and the staff is always helpful if you have questions.

Super nice and reasonable people, we had a loud group and it was all good. Great selection of games as well!

My husband and I stopped here during our trip to Grand Rapids this week. As soon as we walked in, we were amazed by how cozy and inviting the place felt. There was a vast selection of board games on the shelves & even a few tables were opened for gaming. Bryan welcomed us as soon as we walked through the doors & was kind enough to thoroughly explain his business to us! Although we werent able to stay to play a game, Bryan was really helpful with any questions we had and even allowed us to look through his demo game collection before we left. Overall, it was an awesome experience & we really wish we had a place to gather with the board game community like this in our hometown! Thanks Bryan for all of your help! :)

Its a small place, but they have made a great use of their space. Theyve got a great selection of games, alcoholic drinks in the coolers or on tap, as well as non-alcoholic options and unusual sodas.I wouldnt say they are a super busy place, but its best to reserve your table ahead when you can.

We had a great time at House Rules. Enjoyed some good drinks, brought in some food, and spent a couple hours playing some board games from their wide selection. Will definitely be returning soon.

House Rules used to be part of the Craft Brew Cellar franchise but the owner decided to go independent. Now instead of being a pub with games to play, it is a game store with a bar inside and demos of the games to play. Even if you dont like beer, theres options like cider, wine, or soda. A well-kept secret in heartside!
