I absolutely adore being in downtown Greensboro, everything about the heart of the city makes my heart smile. What I love about it is the fact that every time I revisit I find a new aesthetic. I had never been in this book store and I regret not checking it out before. It’s neat, aged, and gives the feel every book store should have. The only thing I wish was better was the the employee presence, he seemed a bit disconnected the day I visited. If you wake up wanting a cozy coffee and craving a new book I would definitely check Scuppernong out. It’s a true gem, especially on a sunny day.
This place is like a little piece of home for me, from Portland, OR. It is like a tiny Powell’s Bookstore. There’s a great selection of books, they have a drama section!, great and friendly staff, and a full bar with coffee, tea, beer, wine, and snacks. This is my top favorite spot in downtown Greensboro.
Wonderful local bookstore, if they dont have what youre looking for theyre happy to order it for you. Its got a great vibe for hanging out and getting some work done while you sip on your choice of a hand crafted latte or tea or a refreshing glass of beer or wine. Whatever your needs, youre sure to find something for you at Scuppernong!
Charming bookstore. We enjoyed our time there today. Ordered some lattes and looked around. They did ask for vaccination cards if we were going to drink them in the store. Which I think is great. Very sweet employees.
One of my (if not most) favorite places in the world. The creaky wood floors, the smell of coffee and books, and the loveliest people make Scuppernong Books a must visit every time Im back home in Greensboro. Brian (the owner) recognizes my face whenever Im in, regardless of how long its been between visits. I always recommend Scuppernong to anyone visiting the Greensboro area, and there are few ways Id rather spend an afternoon than posted up at the cafe bar, enjoying a hot cup of coffee and that days book purchase.
This local small bookstore is a true gem of Greensboro! They have a great selection of new and used books and a great sitting area with couches and tables. If you’re ever exploring downtown, this shop is a must-see! It’s so cute and charming!
I recently moved into to this town a was so happy in finding out a place like this. Its a very beautiful library, loved all its installations. It has a great variety of all types of books. The service was very friendly and Im definitely going to revisit for new books.
Wine and books? Cant go wrong! Nice bookstore with a great selection.
A great place to discover new books, grab a coffee and chat with the friendly employees.
We love Scuppernong! Its the best of what independent booksellers offer. An expansive inventory of books; fresh hot coffee; exemplary service; community offerings. Theres nothing more to say than Thank You, Scuppernong, for being Greensboros best bookseller.
A+ bookstore with friendly, helpful staff and a well-curated selection of books! Will definitely be back next time I visit Greensboro.
Been there twice. was rang up by a man that I think is the owner. he is very nice. I love that he has lots of racially and religious inclusive stickers and book sections all around. very cozy and comfortable atmosphere.they also have wine, beer and tea and coffee. havent had any but plan too.great book selection. highly recommend.
Cute little place. Nice books. Cant wait till Covid lets me get back to have a drink
This business discriminates against Religious & Medical exemptions. Total mask Nazis & Anti-American...👎👎👎
Loved it! Everything we miss about independently owned book stores. Several cozy areas to read, and be comfortable. A bar that serves wine and coffee. Friendly, helpful employees. Even though I could have gotten books for less online, I bought 2 books because these businesses need to be present. B&N has nothing on this place.
Helpful workers, great selection.
I love Scuppernong for its community events and its hand-picked selection of new books. I love it for its cafe and for the fact that it has a large selection of used books. Im less enamored with the prices Scuppernong charges for said used books, and I wish they had a more extensive newsstand. Nonetheless, Im a regular denizen of the shop and believe its one of the jewels of downtown Greensboro.
Brian did an outstanding job recently helping me get ahold of a birthday gift for my wife. Their website said they had it, but it turned out that it was out of stock. Brian ordered it for me and had it in just a couple of days, less time than anticipated. He even wrapped it before shipping it directly to our home. Couldnt be happier!
They quickly ordered me a book. COVID safe and really kind folks
Lovely store. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff!
Asking customers to provide medical information to enter your business is completely unacceptable and promotes segregation and discrimination.
Laid back environment. Book store and coffee shop with seating in a back area. This was my first visit for my Pretty Dope Reads bookclub meeting. First come, first serve free table reservations that are perfect for small meeting or study groups. They have both new and used books for purchase among other novelty merchandise.
Excellent selection with an extremely friendly and helpful staff. Scup was a big help in making sure I shopped (almost entirely) local this Christmas.
Really cool store. Has a large variety of new and used books. Staff was very helpful.
The shops owner is so nice and knowledgeable. The store is clean and well organized.
Great indy book store. Kind staff. Average prices.
Lots of great author readings. The tea lattes are delicious, and neighboring Jerusalem Market will deliver food as well. Scuppernong is the perfect place to browse books or just sit with a nice cuppa to read or work on your own manuscripts. Unlike big chain bookstores, everyone Ive talked with really knows the books in the store and just love books and writers. With all the readings and community events, Scuppernong feels like its part of the community and not just a shop.
Lovely and charming
HOT DAMN
Quick service for requested book. Good deal including shipping.
Amazing local book store. Great selection, cozy atmosphere with plenty of room to hang out and read for a while. Great cafe/bar area too. What more could you want?
Love this local bookstore. Amazing staff, and its such a fun place to explore. Ever changing displays, and cozy couches. I love being able to browse with a glass of wine!
A Greensboro institution! Scuppernoug is all you could want in an independent bookstore: welcoming cafe, great selection of new and use books and Brian and Steve are great owners who make you feel welcome. Highly Recommended!
Ordered the Obama book off of their site. They shipped the same day. Will use them more to stay local.
Great place! They have a good selection of new and used books. The cafe is delicious and they regularly have wine tastings as well
Love this place. Brian helped to order a play for me that I had been wanting and let me know when it was delivered. Very friendly and clean place, Cozy atmosphere. Responded to my emails very quickly! The place had a nice selection of plays, which you don’t get many places and had a good selection of books! I recommend this place first over any chain book store! I will be back!
Incredible place for our community. The beloved local bookstore! You pay about $4 more for a hardback than you would on Amazon. But you also dont get to sip beer, chat with the owner, and enjoy picking up the book and having it immediately while shopping on amazon now do you? :) Love this place.
I always have a nice experience coming in here. I love small local bookstores for their cozy feel, and Scuppernong delivers on that front. Browsers feel welcome, they host tons of events, and the selection of drinks and books is ever-satisfying. If, by chance, they dont have what youre looking for, the staff is very helpful and willing to put something on order for you!
Excellent ambience and selection of books! I found a book in there that Ive been looking for for years, and at a reasonable price. I most certainly will return.
Adorable bookstore with all the homey qualities you are looking for in a local shop. They have a great coffee bar (plus some adult beverages) and a fantastic little childrens section.
I found a slice of literary heaven! Old school bookstore with a nice little bar/coffee shop, and a quaint study area in the back. I wish parking was easier but thats the downside to downtown city life. I still adore this place. Great friendly staff who are helpful but not bothersome.
Discrimination based on medical status
Loved this place. Ive been hearing about it on the radio from WFDD and I finally made it in on the night of the Christmas tree lighting. Very well organized and youre greeted from the door. A huge selection of books plus other cool gifts to choose from.
If I lived in Greensboro, I would spend a lot of time (and probably money) here. The store is immediately welcoming with tables right up front surrounded by well-displayed books. The coffee/wine bar has some terrific beverages available (the peach oolong iced tea is perfectly refreshing). The book selection is top-notch and very well-organized, very clearly laid out. If you cant find a book to fit your reading needs, I would be surprised. Then, at the back of the store is a used book section and reading room. If youre a fan of independent bookstores, check them out!
Scuppernongs is home to book lovers such as myself. I go in and find peace, whether it be sitting at the beverage bar, talking with the staff, or sitting in the back reading to my hearts content. They have wonderful events, featuring classes or authors, as well as a wine and coffee menu.Plus, if you read as much as I do and have a personal library at home, but cannot afford brand new books, they have a used book area in the rear that is organized beautifully. My favorite bookstore in the Triad!
Splendid atmosphere and an amazing drink bar. Had the best root beer and a mind blowing vanilla scone. The book selection is truly amazing and geared towards the bookworm. I highly recommend a visit! I went during the afternoon so I cannot attest to the events, but they have a great space/setup for them.
Good book selection and very friendly staff. They have lots of local authors too!
Friendly staff. Coffee was great. Looks like they have an amazing wine selection. Book selection eclectic and fun.
Absolutely lovely bookshop, well curated and good prices.
An anchor of downtown Greensboro, Scuppernong is a quietly confident force for good in the region. Its books contain all manner of perspectives and ideas, its food and drink soothe and satisfy, and its owners and staff ensure everyone feels welcome. Not to be missed.
THIS PLACE IS A M A Z I N G !!!!!!!!!This place is very cool and they really have a lot going on. They have a cool looking older building. They have a section in the back where you really can seat down and maybe even have some literary readings. They also have a small cafe and the food is actually very very good in it.
Really quaint feel. Owners are super nice. Great selection of books, beer and wine, as well as coffee and tea. Fanatic backroom for live performances. Will definitely visit again!
More than ample selection of books - has that old bookstore smell to it along with the smell of coffee coming from the coffee/espresso bar. Used books are sold in the back where theres also additional seating in a more quiet atmosphere. Sweet staff, very willing to help with any questions you might have.
Just a great little bookstore downtown. Cool little coffee bar. Not cooperate, its the best.
Cool little bookstore. Obviously due to size they cant have the sheer selection of books that a 100k square foot Big Box bookstore has, however it seems that their titles are curated well. Its surprising that every book in the store is interesting. Doesnt matter what subject youre browsing, the books for sale all seem like interesting reading. That says a lot.The other thing thats notable is the cafe inside. Its just not a complete experience without a cafe, and certainly theyve got it.The back room sells used books, and it looks to be set up to serve as a venue for a book reading/ book signing as well.Great little shop!
I love this place! They have a great selection of books for children and adults. They carry mainstream stuff, but also a lot of books you might not find at Barnes and Noble. They serve coffee, beer, and wine. They also have special events such as Drag Queen Story Time. Its a great store that caters to everyone.
Just ordered some books in support of this downtown GSO treasure & indie bookstore. They were so helpful over the phone. I look forward to my next batch of COVID-19 reading. Support local!
I have only lived in Greensboro for a short time, but Scuppernong Books has become one of my favorite places in the city. Its a perfect place to grab a beverage, create something (writing or otherwise) on the fly, and be exposed to some books worth considering. I love it already, and look forward to taking part in some of the hosted community events that take place there.
Scuppernong is a charming independent book store. They are friendly, community oriented and welcoming of everyone. I can almost always find exzactly the book Im looking for (and often more than what I came in for), if I cant find something they are always willing to order it for me and it comes in within days! The coffee is good, the wine is delicious, the events will fill up your heart.
Great selection of novels. The cookbook section also included food related books that looked really interesting. I especially recommend the youth section. There were a variety of age appropriate books about civil rights and civil rights leaders. Excellent connection to the nearby civil rights museum.
Charming little local bookstore, with a friendly, welcoming vibe. A lovely place to work in the back, and creative, interesting books suggested by staff. One of my favorite local bookshops Ive visited!
Love this local bookstore and they have prices that arent so bad either. Recently attended a reading by an author Nora Gaskin and discovered my new favorite book The Worst Thing. Pretty cool to walk into a store and be introduced to something great by meeting the author in the flesh. Way more intimate than a Barnes and Noble.
Amazing neighborhood bookstore filled with alternative books by independent authors that mainstream bookstores may not offer. Definitely worth checking out! Oh and did I mention you can enjoy a glass of wine simultaneously??? What are you waiting for?
Tremendous bookstore. Hard to believe a bookstore can be so lively. Wine, beer and coffee--and food. Comfortable seats in back, chatty tables up front. And a writer/owner who mans the register and knows both his stock and his books.
Nice atmosphere and smart layout. lots of space to work and meet. I didnt try anything food or drink items today. The books are reasonably priced. The kids section is thoughtful and cozy and encourages looking through the books.
What a great place! All the best books, great food and drink, lovely helpful staff, and tonight a fun and touching reading by author Carol Roan. I wish I lived in Greensboro so I could be there more often.
Really cool store. Its a great place to hang out with lots of good books and beer/wine.
This is my favorite place to study, meet up with friends, listen to great local artists, and just straight up have a great time! This is a bookstore plus so much more. Prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is elegant. Dont waste your time and money at big chain bookstores. Come here and get plugged into the Greensboro community in a more intimate environment while supporting local art. Why not, right?
Wonderful atmosphere...a nice place for a hot drink with friends or to find a good read. They encourage a lot of fun community groups. We really enjoyed last months sing along and various poetry readings.
Great local bookstore also serving food, coffee, and craft beer. They also have events there. I found their selection of books to be refreshingly eclectic; yes you might save a couple bucks buying online, but Amazon could never provide to the community what Scuppernong does.
Love local own booked stores. Great concert venue during folk festival this past Sep!
Impressive selection for a neighborhood bookstore! I so love the warm atmosphere.
Wonderful atmosphere, super friendly staff. Nice place to chill.
This is a cozy bookstore with an amazing cafe. The food and drink selection is good for light meals. The staff is super friendly! Nice place to hang out and relax.
Really cool place. Excellent customer service and tasty beverages!
LOVE this book store, such a treat for our community. Love coming in here on a Friday night and drinking a Chimay while browsing for books. Used selection in the back has prices even better than amazon, with some rare editions mixed in. Check them out!!!!!!
Unique bookstore - a must visit whenever we go downtown.
Love this! I wish every town I visit had a place like this. Great service, beverages, and atmosphere.
Great local bookstore, lots of variety thats not mainstream
A nice book store. Has many genres. The brownies are really good.
I love this place simply for the great vibes. It is a great place to hang out and have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. And a book usually jumps off the shelf for me to take home.
Great space! Amazing books, local books, and great meeting space. Great variety of drinks offered as well
Whats better than a cafe bookstore? It has great atmosphere and good drinks and if youre hungry you can get amazing food from the Jerusalem Market a few shops down.
Very helpful staff and plenty of options
Fantastic gem in downtown Greensboro. Great atmosphere, great coffee selection and quality, great beer and wine. Constantly offering quality author talks and other programs.
Large variety of books, including used books. Bar and tables in the front where you can meet your friends for coffee and drinks. Some food also provided. Area in back for music, meetings and readings. Pleasant atmosphere.
Best place to get book and wine. The atmosphere is one of a kind.
Scuppernong is everything you could want from a local indie bookstore and more. Kind, helpful, friendly, well informed, and extremely active in the community. If they dont have it, theyll order it for you. They have ebooks available on their website too, as well as used books in the back, a wonderful childrens section with games and puzzles, a bar with coffee and beer and wine, comfortable seating areas for quiet conversation or discussion, regular readings, roundtable discussions and other events. They will also allow you to order in food from the nearby Jerusalem Market. Its a wonderful location for a bookstore in the heart of downtown. Anytime someone asks me where we should meet up and hang out I say Scuppernong!
Refused service for my inability to wear a mask due to medical reasons. Will not return
A small bookstore and cafe downtown Greensboro. Parking will be a concern during business day hours.i liked the warmth of the inside, good selection of books, i went for children books and fir used books, prices can be a question if you want to pick several items. Between $6-$8 a used children book yes, some of which are only few pages and lines. There is a backside reading room that is nicely set, you can also have a beverage and a cookie if tou want to snack while reading. Not sure if wifi is free or offered there, it will be nice if so.
Best Indie bookstore!!
Eclectic selection of books. Stop in and read while you enjoy a hot drink, a glass of wine, or a small meal! Live music on select nights. Community based and charming.
