This is the third time I try getting a pastry at Ava’s and the bread taste stale once again. Wish Tonight’s carrot cake tasted as good as it looked but unfortunately let down again. It was so dry I couldn’t even finish it. Anyone looking for fresh pastries should walk a few blocks up to Tour Le Jours.
Beautiful setting. The host sat us at a table outside, where we were forgotten about for 30 mins. Watch 3 other tables get seated and taken care of during this time. Made eye contact with 4 different employees and never once approached. When our server final came to us he acted as if all was well. There was no apology for any staff member and the waiter checked in on us once basically to give us our check. Very poor experience. Side note...we were out celebrating my girlfriends birthday, which is the only reason for not leaving. The food was ok, nice presentation. The mimosas were good and the only reason for the 2 stars.
COVID 19.....DELTA VARIANT...2021!!! 1st thing I noticed....NO ONE IS WEARING A MASK seated ( NOT EATING OR DRINKING ) just group casual chit chat in a confined space?Ive only been into a few places across the country, most are out on the East Coast where they are very diligent about making sure the people understand the difference between consuming their food /beverages opposed to just idle chat etc.The West sadly is very far behind the East Coast when it comes to this simple application. There is another location of this property in Beaverton that is much better than this location. When this property is fully staffed it seems to run well but one person by themselves trying to run the entire place when its busy obviously is not going to work.My coffee was fine except it was lukewarm and I wanted it hot. The pastry was okay except it was stale so it was very very hard but it doesnt mean that all of the pastries are like that either.
Super rude. Have been here multiple times and have had pretty good customer service. Today the guy behind the counter was resting on the back of a counter when we walked up to order. I asked if they had chocolate chip cookies, and said I would need to check as he pointed down to the glass container. I walked down the line and noticed there wasn’t any, so he asked me were there any, I looked at him and said no! (Wow thanks for checking for me). After I paid and my credit card was charged, he didn’t say a thank you or anything. While my son and I were waiting for our 2 drinks, the 2 girls and the guys that helped me went on and talked about some of their crew were old enough to be their parents and thought that one of them look like a Pedophiler. That is so unprofessional! I will definitely not be going to this location again.
Came for the coffee, stayed for the pastries and hot chocolate. Only place thats done hot chocolate better is all the way in Germany, so thats saying something! Pastries and cakes are awesome too, sweet without overdoing it. A good every other month treat.
Ultimately dissatisfied and disappointed with the “best coffee shop” in Orenco Station… great spot if you’re looking for a place to squat while you wait for the MAX and need free WiFi, but if you’re looking for the quality coffee that is so closely associated with the PNW - don’t come to Orenco and expect that from Ava Roasteria. The pour over bar / coffee program seems to be dead (hasn’t been in service or active for the last 15+ months I’ve lived in the area) - just an empty bar collecting dust with a lot of cool fancy coffee equipment. No cortados. No pour-overs. Nothing really. Kind of your run-of-the-mill underwhelming ‘cafe’ with nothing but decent WiFi and an accessible bathroom.
In love with this place already - we just sit here peacefully and dive into our laptops. I give 3 stars only because I did not like the white chocolate coffee, it was so not like chocolate at all. The muffins are great, dark chocolate coffee is good. The bagels with cream cheese were a total waste of mood and money.
Have been constipated for weeks. Thank you Ava’s. I tried Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Peet’s Coffee, and more. Nothing cleared me out. But whatever you had on drip today seriously got my bowels moving. It was like Niagara Falls through a screen door this morning.
Quad shot cold milk. I walk in and they know me and what I want. Unless theyre busy they always give me a few minutes to socialize and be friendly. The breakfast sandwiches are great. Tried the pastries a few times which I believe they buy whole sale from another company. If youve had a cannoli made by an old Italian woman. . . These dont stack up. Over all this is my daily coffee stop.
The mochas are delicious, most of the time. Very inconsistent. This place use to have top notch staff but I don’t know what happened. There is one guy that works in the evenings and he is the only one that seems to enjoy being there. The female worker that works in the morning is just rude, she doesn’t want to be there and clearly hates her job. When I walk in and see her working I kind of sigh. We live close by and so this is my go to in the morning time for coffee and love stopping in the evenings for a treat. I hope that this place can bring itself back up before it loses to many loyal customers.
I was a little disappointed with the coffee drink. I had a caramel macchiato which I paid $5 for that was pretty light and didnt taste much coffee at all. The have freshly made sandwiches which were great, staff was pretty friendly. I probably wont go back because of the cost but it understandable because of location. Great ambience
Ordered a bowl of soup I got half a bowl and no spoon!!
What is this library? book store? Come on! We visited the store on Friday night, it is dead silent no night music is being played. It is Christmas season and the skating ring right in front of their door and no music being played. We asked the cashier if he can play some music. Will never visit again and would not recommend for fun night. It is sad place.
Great Tasting Sugar Free Raspberry Mocha. Also Ham,Bacon,Egg and Cheddaron a Croissant. Awesome place for a quick Coffee and Breakfast Sandwich.
My partner and I come here weekly for coffee. They’re always nice and the coffee is always delicious. If you’re going to order a bagel sandwich make sure you’re not in a rush as they can take a while, especially if there are other customers ordering after you, but they’re delicious!
Chocolate Cannoli is good but empty in the middle. Only thends are caped of with wiped cream.
UPDATEI went back and got another piece of carrot cake (no charge). It was soooooo much better than the first one.The staff was, again, very friendly. Thanks to owner for responding.I can recommend. :-)PREVIOUS REVIEWTrying to eat piece of carrot cake I just bought for $5.00. Horrible! Tastes like it was made in the last century. Dry as a bone and hardened. Cannot finish it.Gave the place three stars only because staff was courteous and quick.
Believe the reviews that say that the mochas are delicious here, they truly are. The only complaint I have which to be honest isnt a complaint, is the employees making me feel a little out of place. Now I WOULDNT say they are rude, maybe a little dull but, from the many times that Ive been there everytime I say thank you they never say anything back. I know it sounds weird to complain about but Im not looking at it as a complaint because I enjoy coming here and will continue to come here but just want to give my perspective on something. I always go in with a good attitude and make sure to be kind to all people especially those working in customer service. My mind starts to wonder and there are many times when I cant give a $tip so it seems like if I dont tip Im not given a your welcome or have a nice day I would hate to assume that this is the reason why. I know nobody is asking for this but I work and have always worked in food service and a good tip that a manager told me was when working in a coffee shop, many times we are the first people our customers interact with. You are the start of their day. So make it count. How would you want your day to start? Also this place has one of those too quiet for comfort feels so maybe a hey welcome in when someone comes in might make people feel invited. Its hard to convey a tone on a review but trust me this is just feedback not trying to pull people down.
We love Avas, the mochas are the best! They use real chocolate chips (white, milk or dark chocolate) and immersion blend it with the hot milk for a rich frothy mocha. Im not a fan of sweet mochas, so I super appreciate the ability to get dark chocolate.
If you like coffee, actually like coffee, then this is not the place. Over steamed milk and beans arent much better than a Starbucks.
A good space to relax, good service.
Used to really like the coffee, but I wont be back. I know serving people isnt easy, but rude/indifferent service has changed my mind about this place.
The drinks are horrible and taste really weird. I got a Chai Latte and its this odd almost peppermint taste. Its nasty. Their croissants also taste horrible and are overcooked. Save your money. Dont go here.
This was such a great coffee shop to visit! The atmosphere was very warm, and inviting. The service was very reasonable and did not have to wait too long. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was big, and tasted very fresh. I cant wait to come back for more!
My favorite coffee shop! Super friendly staff well made drinks great location.
This place is always bustling, yet there is never a line. The longest Ive seen it is a single person in front of me. Their drinks are delicious, and they offer frozen hot chocolates in both white and milk chocolate. Their music can be a tad loud in areas, especially if you come here to study and/or have a conversation like I do. But all in all, its a great place to go.
Great place to study
The pastries are delicious, Ive tried the blueberry muffin, poppyseed muffin and the cranberry pecan muffin so far. But, the quality of the coffee depending on the employee varies. This may be due to different trainings or diligence. Ive gotten coffee so hot that it burned my tongue, and on several occasions the flavor was an extreme bitter burnt taste. On few occasions Ive had coffee that was on point. To be safe no matter the employee order with cream and sugar. It covers the burnt taste. And finally the employees, theyre all exceptionally kind and have great customer service! Besides that lack of quality control the redeeming features is the customer service and pastries (I dont know if they make it). Ive been to every Ava roasteria out of sheer curiousity and Ill say that the customer service is the best at the Orenco Station location.
I liked this place better when it was open 24 hours. It was a great place to warm up and relax when I was homeless and had no where to go. I was never treated badly by the staff and always bought a mocha and let my phone charge while warming up. Still a great place and even better that its on the max line.
Thank God for this business providing take out during this strange time. Not much to look forward to on a day to day basis, but having this place available to just drop by (at a safe distance), and do something normal like getting a cup of coffee to break up the routine and provide a sense of faith that all is not so bad.Oh, and the coffees not bad either! 😁
Great coffee and pastries. A warm and welcoming place. Also, excellent chocolate drinks!
I like this place. Customer service has always been very good.
3 year regular who will no longer be returning. Have had a lot of patience with inconsistent baristas who are just job hopping through over the years. Already selling poor quality drinks at a premium price, now these young brats want to be as rude and impersonable as they want to be. The manager Joe is a total unprofessional. This was never the greatest cafe as it was, and probably benefits the most from a lack of competition in the neighborhood due to the leases being so pricey. Easy to be the best when youre the only.
Great coffee here. Lots of students go here to study. There are no comfortable couches or anything, only tables with chairs. I’d prefer to have some soft, comfortable seats to relax in, but it’s still a great place.
This is a large, spacious coffee shop. They roast and Brew right there. The staff were preoccupied with their cell phones the day I visited. However once I had her attention, she was very accommodating.
We accidentally dropped our drinks right after buying them! The manger, Nathan, was really nice and replaced our drinks for free. The lavender lemonade was delicious. 👌😋😍 Im looking forward to more visits to this fun coffee shop!
Its a little expensive probably due to its location. Their house coffee was okay and the sandwich was a little and exciting for $9
This place has great coffee options and light snacks. The gluten free carrot cake was excellent. The baristas always have yummy suggestions. Its a very relaxed atmosphere and is perfect to meet a friend or do some studying. It is right on the max station and the big windows provide a nice view.
This is my local coffee shop and there are a lot of things I like about it. Their espresso quality is good, breakfast sandwiches are good, staff is friendly. Unfortunately, some inconsistencies in barista quality are holding them back. Ive had some of the best cortados and lattes there, but Ive also had several of the worst. Depends on who makes it. The younger staff tend to burn espresso and milk, but a lot of the managers are really on point. Train the young ones better, guys!
Really kind service and a lovely selection of sweets, thank you!!
This place always has a great atmosphere. The smell of coffee and the people both behind the counter and in the shop are always pleasant. The muffins are my favorite. Their cakes are delectable as well. They are open till midnight. So go grab yoyrself a cup of great coffee.Though since it is near a few bars, so at night a random loud drunk may come in for a bit. But the staff know how to calm them down and deal with them well.
Great little coffee shop, right off the max and bus lines if needed. Nice shopping area around it, good clean environment and the coffee and food are delicious!
One of the most beautiful coffees I have tasted. Friendly staff, clean place.Update 2021 June-Throughout the pandemic Ava has served beautifully maintaining all standards and COVID-19 protocol in place.
The best coffee. A nice serene spot to chill.
The lady working behind the counterwas very sweet and she ended up giving me a dollar that i was short when my card would not properly work at the register.
Coffee and food is alright. The best thing about Avas is the hours theyre open. Its a great place to get your mind in a place to study, or to casually hang out with a few close friends. Its also at a Maxx station which is good for people who use public transportation. Parking can sometimes be difficult, but most visitors around here use the Max, so its not too much of a problem.
Some of there staff is great. I like how they stay open later than most coffee shops. However this place is just overrated, really expensive for mediocre quality baked goods and inconsistent quality of coffee.
I just found my new favorite coffee shop! Thank God for Doordash during this time. As a lifelong barista I have found myself growing so tired of the options for coffee nearby (Starbucks, Dutch etc..). Trying Ava for the first time and my mind is blown!! It is perfection.👍❤
The location and interior are cozy. The pastries are decent. The coffee is where things shine. I had a cholate latte. It was delicious. Excellent place to hang out if you get stranded at night by missing a trimet bus.
Fantastic food and my new favourite coffee. The manager was the one to serve me both times and he seems to be a very charming young man, easy to converse with and calm even when the store was busy and he was by himself. Im planning to be a regular.
I love this Coffee shop they have it all. Love. Coffee. And Smiles. I love You Cassidy😘💋
Burned my hand trying to put sweetner in a cup of tea, because the lady at checkout was too busy chatting away with the other baristas when I asked for a sleeve or extra cup to have as a buffer.
Excellent more local coffee shop. Mochas are made with actual chocolate (ground up chips) coffee is pleasant and not over roasted. Highly recommend them on that front. The pastry selection is ok, not as extensive as La Provence across the street, but the coffee is substantially better.
Had a chai tea. Forgot to take a photo but it was really good and both baristas were super friendly. Its pretty good for a coffee place which I like and the lighting was relaxing. Good tea too.
Yummy blended drinks! Mmm.
Ava is always there for me. It took me a year to realize they have a community meeting room which I have used. Ask the manager! In Oregon it can be very dreary! Because Ava at the Platform has a lot of South Facing Glass it is a place that even on a rainy day I can go or meet a client at and recharge. The coffee is terrific and they have a roaster and grind fresh beans at the new espresso bar. WiFi is super high speed so be ready to hang! I take my boys and grandson there often and grab real hot chocolate with White, Dark, and Mocha chips whipped in! This is a fun spot and the service and atmosphere is perfect for staging an adventure by jumping on MAX light rail which stops in front of AVA! This is just a really cool spot!
Coffee is not bad, but the sandwiches are bland and uninspired. It feels like a sandwich I would get out of a boxed lunch on a field trip, but cost me 9 bucks (for the sandwich alone). The breakfast sandwich is much better than lunch. The atmophere is nice for resting and working, but the music is sometimes quite loud. You can watch ice skating outside during the holidays. I would stick to just coffee here.
Friendly staff, but relatively slow service. Very pricey, even for the Orenco area. Our beverages were served in disposable non compostable cups with plastic lids. Quite disappointing for this upscale neighborhood. Quite busy. Almost everybody is glued to their screens. Food menu interesting but somewhat limited. Definitely not a pastry shop to go to. When we visited at around 16:00 the food shelves were mostly empty.
My social group calls this chain chronic coffee -- a 24 hour central heating receptacle for the bilious blur following a night of hard drinking. in terms of a hostel for vomiting it is acceptable. as distributor of food it is horrible. in example, i ordered a lavender matcha latte and got a cup of the instant latte sold at trader joes. use of grocery chain goods, fish based emulsifiers and high fructose corn syrup proliferate to a volume through which no actual food can be discerned. i really recommend almost anywhere else instead.
Great coffee, food, music, and atmosphere. Its a great place to hang out day or night
Love this place! Get a white chocolate mocha w cinnamon steamed in almost every morning... its consistantly reliable coffee that is made the same every time regardless of location or time. Love this!!!
Very easy going coffee shop with free WiFi. Also cheap coffee and some sandwiches, baked goods. If you dont like coffee they have some other drinks on the menu. Casual comfortable place
This place is amazing, especially Gulianos sandwich making skills. If you come to this location and order a sandwich, DO NOT let anyone except him make it! Once you try one of his sandwiches, you will be hooked. Team Gulz!
Available roasts its own coffee, and its delicious. Theyre coffee is of the highest quality and you can taste it in every cup.Their pastries are delicious too.
I love the Iced Green Tea and the atmosphere is very relaxing~ I go here sometimes just to draw.
Great place with a nice atmosphere. Staff is always helpful. They have tables outside too.
Nice place to study. Good background music and nice staff. Coffee isnt bad either.
This restaurant has very friendly staff, a good selection of sandwiches and desserts, and the food was flavorful. I saw many people working on computers successfully, and others hanging out with friends. It was packed with people, but surprisingly quiet.
Very Good Breakfast sandwich. At $7.75 a better price than Mc Donalds and a better meal.
This is one of the best coffee shops I have ever been. They have a 24 hr location in Beaverton. Theyre both amazing.
Good espresso, good desserts, if you like them very sweet and rather large.Ava Roasteria is always clean and well appointed. They are a good place to meet people and a decent way to introduce people to espresso.
Nathan is always so kind and makes amazing coffee to top it off! I love staying my day there! The whole staff is sweet.
Amazing dark chocolate hot cocoa and dark chocolate Mocha. Lots of tasty drinks and pastries. The shop’s opening hours are pretty extensive. Wonderful place to sit and get some work done, and outdoor seating is available.
Ive only been a handful of times, and not all that regularly, but they have remembered me and my order each time since my first visit. Quality drinks. Friendly service.
I always really enjoy visiting insomnia, all of their locations. Definitely a favorite place of mine first for their delicious drinks/treats, then second the mood lifting and relaxed environment...5 star
I love the fact that they open early in the morning. Perfect place to get breakfast if youre not feeling up to making it yourself. The mochas are all top quality and I like the white chocolate mocha the most. The baristas are all super friendly. Theres a smell of roasting coffee beans in the air which smells great. They have a nice selection of bagels and their tea cookies are a definite must try.
Super delicious. Really good espresso drinks and a great selection of cookies, cakes, and pastry. Large open area with plenty of room to work on a laptop or just chill.
Prices don’t reflect serving sizes and the large is enough to barely enough to quench a thirst. You have to take their word on quality. The breakfast sandwiches are a dice roll based on who’s cooking them but that’s the price you pay for convenience and hanging out in that location even though it’s just as hot inside as out.
Got good coffee😁 Good food!!!! Great prices Its better than star bucks..
Went to ice skate, and stayed for the coffee. They obviously need more than one staff member on during the winter wonderland thing, because it was messy. However the coffee and hot chocolate were on point. My son was floored they have white, milk and dark chocolate options. The young man behind the counter was under control and had orders up in good time, he was friendly to boot.
I asked for a blended drink and got a cup of foam. My son ordered a sweet tea and got one with out sugar. Out of 2 drinks the barista failed at both. The other employee there was to busy checking out girls and talking to be of any help.
Got a dark chocolate mocha that I thoroughly enjoyed and a breakfast sandwich which was supposed to have two scrambled eggs on it and didn’t. I paid extra money to have bacon and the sandwich came with just the bacon, vegetables and cheese. Not the worst, but considering I paid over $8 for a sandwich that didn’t have over half the protein I needed on it really sucked. Probably will not be returning for anything other than the occasional coffee.
Quick, friendly service. They know how to make excellent coffees. Check them out.
Best plain coffee! I even bought a pound of beans to make a cold brew at home. Seriously, while my friends all order lattes and fancier drinks, Im very satisfied with their AVA blend with heavy cream.
Amazing coffee, friendly workers, very good food.
