Hilo Propane is the cheapest place to fill your tanks on Hilo side of the island.No filling or swapping tanks, you can request a certain number of gallons. I like they do that if Im short on cash.The staff know there stuff and will answer any question honestly.To the one who wrote a 1 star review....If you have an attitude with the employees here, well then youre going to get that right back. Respect is earned and it seems you did not at Hilo Propane.

Knowledgeable and reasonably priced

Went in to Hilo Propane to purchase two new Manchester 9 gal LPG tanks at 135$/ea. Their stock was all 2018 mfg. I asked if they discount older tanks, as only 11 year service life remaining. They said no discount AND I can go shop somewhere else. I took their advice, drove 5 minutes elsewhere, and saved myself a lot of money on two 2019 mfg Manchester 9 gal tanks at 105$/ea. And yeah, its still a couple stoner kids running the place, nothing has changed over the years. Hilo Propane -- when you absolutely have to overpay for old stock -- theres nowhere better. (October 2019).

Core parts and services for off-the-grid living. Recently took them an old Paloma for a fix. A definite long-shot since they had already fixed it years before and told us it was on its way out. They couldnt fix and didnt charge for the assessment (next day service).They have done so many things right over the years, its hard to imagine not bringing them business. Super local, super friendly and really good at what they do. Anyone with off the grid needs should check with them before buying online.

Drove from Volcano to pick up a propane heater... When we arrived, the entire store was full of marijuana smoke, and the two youngsters running the place were so stoned they had to be told a few times we wanted a propane space heater, and let us drive away without selling us the Mr. Heater the girl at the desk was waving around saying they didnt have any more of. We were surely disappointed with Hilo Propane, and wont bother shopping or stopping there again.
