Store usually seems to be low on stock. It’s a large store, but frequently has only one or 2 of an item or empty shelving. There is an employee mask requirement in place at this store, but I’d estimate about one third of employees have masks on, but pulled down.
I was in there at 9:20 am in the seafood department and asked an employee who was placing items in display counter for a couple of crab cakes, and was told we dont open until 10 am, no other customers was near me I didnt see a problem...I put my stuff back and left and went to Harris teeter where they were happy to accommodate my seafood items..I see kroger doesnt accommodate customers needs period
Store was very crowded on an early Sunday morning. The seafood Dept was understaffed and the one person working was very slow. The aisles were crowded with various end cap displays making it hard to shop. Visually the looked disorganized and unappealing. The check area was crowded and very slow. The manager who wanted us to use self checkout was rude and disinterested. Over not a great experience.
The Deli really needs help! They have Mrs. Karyn working by herself for the past 2 weekends I have been in there. The line is always long and she tries her best to please everyone and work as fast as she can! She needs a raise because most people would have quit a job like that and to hear that another person called out on her and the manager left her there alone.
Pretty good Kroger that somehow deals with the craziness of Hilton Head visitors every week! Best to go on a weekday when the mad rush of the weekend arrivers are done and they’ve been able to restock.
Live, laugh, KrogerThis place is great, they got many things, nice atmosphere, ausghsuegr I love Kroger shopping here is utter 𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘴
This was a great place, the quantity of the products was in tremendous amount. The quality was just as great. It was a very roomy supermarket with many different useful stations such as, cheese, meat and fish, fruit, and veggies. If you are in the area I would personally recommend stopping by to pick up some food for the kids.
Do not place a delivery order from the Shelter Cove location. My order was scheduled to be delivered at 3-5pm. It now says my order will be delivered at 12-12:30am. I’m just guessing but I don’t think I’m getting this order. Also no one at the store or on the general customer service line will answer the phone for me to cancel it.
This Kroger is convenient, but the employees are not very helpful and rude. The isles are very crowded and narrow. If you can go to Publix or Whole foods you will have a much happier experience.
Cashier made us bag our own groceries and gave customer behind us his bags to do the same very rude experience people were not polite lady was like we always short staff on weekends…. Would not return.
I would give this grocer a 4.4. I am a HUGE fan of Wegman’s and no one has yet to match them. However I have done a lot of traveling along the east coast and been to many grocery stores and I have to say this is my new favorite in the area, still no wegmans but my new second favorite. Good selection of natural and organic foods at reasonable cost. Good selection of beer, wine, and I can even get a cigar. This location has a starbucks and a legit bar! Bring your significant other and they can get a cold one while you shop. One stop shop. First time here, felt I did a lot of running back and forth across the store and I’d call most of the prices fair, some items could be a bit less.
This kroger on shelter cove really needs an etiquette lesson as also customer service . Baggers are nowhere to find, peoples at register are NOT friendly and see that u have your hands fulll but will not help woth bagging. . The shelves are always empty why cant they do the refilling like publix at night . I recommand to shop somewhere else and harris teeter or publix are a little higher in price but their customer service makes up for that !
Best value grocery store on the island. Very convenient for all us midwesterners visiting every year.
Clean grocery with great selections. Staff was polite. Prefer this grocery over any other if had to choose.
Had the most amazing Birthday cake made by the Bakery! I ordered from Tampa FL and Sent two pictures for the cake and the creative staff (Suzette) made it for me to pickup in HHI. Wow blown away by the creativity and the results were impressive. Everyone talked about it for days and totally a hit for the birthday. Amazing cake and great top notch service. Took the Worry out of ordering a cake from 300 Miles away and it was ready for me to pickup on the drive in. Suzette made sure I was happy with the results and sent me pictures before I started my 6 hours drive up. Now have my go to Cake place on HHI.
Good organization, friendly staff, good selection
The deli staff was nice, clearly need training. It shouldn’t take 20 minutes to get deli meat. The perception is one of the ladies was taking a break in the back and not being helpful. Frustrating shopping when you have a kid and people aren’t helpful when you are in a rush.
Very poor customer service. I ordered groceries using Kroger.com. I was traveling with 2 small grandchildren and needed groceries ASAP. We received notice that delivery would be late. Groceries never arrived. When i contacted Kroger’s i was told ‘you have to contact instacart’. I made the order (over 250 dollars) thinking that Kroger’s was delivering. Instacart said “we don’t have any drivers available “ the next morning i called Kroger’s for reassurance that I would receive groceries that day. The manager more or less said ‘that’s your problem’. He was very rude and did not care at all! Horrible experience. I will NEVER shop Kroger’s again! Hilton Head has a great Publix which i will use next time.
I love the store in general but i get bad vibes from some of the workers.
Way too crowded; my advice: go to the nearby Publix or Wal-Mart. Also, unless you have a Kroger card, their prices are not competitive.
We shop Kroger anytime we travel, but this particular location has issues with the deli. Tried to order 4 smokehouse deli sandwiches, the staff argued who was going to make the sandwiches, then the bread he was about to use had green mold starting to show. I’m sure the manager will take care of the issue, left without sandwiches.
We liked this Kroger very much except for the service in the seafood department. We were inquiring about the different types of shrimp and wanted a recommendation between a couple of the different kinds available. The gentleman said “just get any of them and throw them in there” assuming he meant for the meal we were planning. Not very knowledgeable nor customer service oriented...if you don’t know, ask someone that does!
I know its a tough labor market but Kroger has hired some of the laziest and most mentally challenged people Ive ever seen.
Huge Kroger with extensive alcohol selection and all sorts of beach knicknacks you may need while on vacation.
This is the only Kroger on The island the store vibe is pretty good the store has lots food and a great selection and good prices the service is ok and the store is just a typical grocery store
Good service and selection
We ordered our groceries two weeks before arriving for vacation. We secured a pickup time for the night we arrived. We then get a call stating that there was a technical difficulty and our order would not be filled. We were told it was a printing issue. So, not happy with this response, we called the corporate office. They followed up on the problem and basically said they were short on employees as therefore they were canceling curbside orders. So, let me get this straight- I plan ahead so I don’t have to expose myself to the 500 people inside the store. I place my order in advance. And, the day of you decide you don’t have the staff to follow through on your end? If you can’t deliver on the service, don’t offer it. If it is too busy on the weekends, then only offer pickup times M-Thurs. there were four families staying in our home. All four orders were cancelled and all 4 of us were lied to. Technical difficulties is not the same as being understaffed and under prepared. Your system is broken and as a result we had to enter a store full of people putting my “high risk” family members’ health in jeopardy. We specifically planned curbside to have little contact with large groups of people in public. As a longtime Kroger customer, I’m extremely frustrated and disappointed.
If you dont have membership staff will help you to scan that booklet. So you can still get discount
A great store. My wife calls this her happy place to shop. She can find almost anything she needs. Great customer service. Good prices and quality Kroger Brand products. The best meats, seafood and produce on the island.
Special thanks to Deb from the flower department! On Aug 30th this year she filled up over 30 balloons with helium for my husbands birthday and arranged them beautifully! She walked the extra mile to make my husband happy even though it was at the end of her shift and the job was time-consuming! I am more than grateful for her excellent work and great customer service provided! Overall, Ive always had a great experience at the store and I shop there on regular basis!Thank you!
It is a Kroger on Hilton Head Island...it has beach stuff for sale.
Great store located close to our resort. My family and I visited plenty times for groceries and snacks some novelties and etc.... friendly staff very helpful. Will definitely return when we come back next summer.
Kroger is actually a very nice grocery store. Very clean, friendly, helpful associates. Came to Hilton Head to vacation at the Hilton Head Hero House with my husband and daughter that is in remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer. My daughter loves to make dinners at home. She is so picky!! So having some great prices really helps with making my daughter put a smile on her face. Thank you for making my trip a great one!! DiNinno Family
I cant give more than 3 stars because, even thought the staff is friendly and prices are ok., the store is often out of products I buy regularly. My main issue is with management. They continue to make people do their own bagging or either the cashier has to do it so it slows the line down. If you only pick up 3 or 4 items, its no big deal I guess but when you have a cart full, or you are 80 yrs old, its very frustrating. It isnt as bad during low season but during high season, its terrible. The other thing is that they only open up one or two lines that arent self checkout. So, basically, they are training customers to do more work while we pay the same or more for groceries. I hope this summer they will decide to pay a higher wage so that more people will be willing to come to the island and work at Kroger. Its a busy store and they need the help!
We ordered our groceries 4 days prior to coming to the island. As we pulled up there was a line for there 4 pick up spots. Ok, so we get in line at 205, pickup time is 2-3, 230 comes around we pull into our spot call and they tell us our order isnt ready it would be 15min. Ok were on island time lots of ppl okay. 3pm comes around and I call back they now tell me they havent finished shopping for my order. Are you kidding me. How is this even possible. And in the mean time the spot next to me has had 3 customers pull in and out!! This by far is the worst ever!! They could have called or notified me of the dealy!! I would have just put my maks on and gone in! I watched a couple go in and come out with 2carts full in the time I was there!! HORRIBLE
We are renting for a couple of weeks and enjoy their freshly prepared foods for a quick meal. Eating out every night is not an option so the markets in the area are a good solution. We wish they had more of a selection but this is fine is good for a couple of nights.
Quick in and out, probably the friendliest cashiers in the country.
Customer service needed in the seafood dept
Best selection and hours! I LOVE their new Click List option for the online shopping. The shoppers are very professional and get the orders correct and substitute the correct items needed. Much better than the online shopping at Harris Teeter. I love how this store carries everything you can imagine!
This is one of the worst grocery stores I have ever been to. First time and last time I will ever go to one.Very poor and illogical layout. 930pm on a Sunday night and the place was mobbed. 2 lines open and about 50 people in line. I asked an employee is it is like this all the time and he said yes, it is in the summer. Shelves were not stocked well, deli line was way too long to wait.If its always this, then WHY ARE THEYRE MORE CASHIERS AND OTHER EMPLOYEES WORKING????
We were on vacation In March when all the new regulations, due to Covid-19, came out. I had, the week before vacationing on HHI, found that I was a diabetic. I had a few alcohol swabs that I had taken with me with the intent of getting more when we arrived. There were no alcohol swabs, or alcohol in any form to be found. After exhausting all other options, I walked up to the Pharmacy at this store and since finding no swabs, asked the Pharmacist if they knew where I could Procure some. Originally the lady at the window said no, but a wonderful young pharmacist heard the conversation and said “since you’re diabetic you can get these”. There was one package on a counter, unopened, he let me purchase! Thank you, thank you, thank you! That was a great representation of what a real human being looks and acts like! Thank you Kroger!
Great place! A one stop for everything from ur money services to your favorite grocery items to flowers and of course COFFEE!!! Customer service needs a little work though but great place
The best store wish we had one in our city excellent excellent excellent got everything I needed excellent service nice people price are great excellent
A well run store with several sections that really shine. Great cheese department, wine and beer section, and a Starbucks. Dont miss the fact that you can order your cold cuts via the computer screen in the vestibule and pick them up at your convenience rather than standing around waiting!
Its simple I start my day at Starbucks. The baristas are great. My coffee & breakfast sandwich are on point everyday.Lunch time the salad bar is stocked. Hot bar is quick and delicious.Bonus as is the great wineeer section. Plus a growler station. 32 and 64 oz fills
This store has been very well organized and sanitized with friendly staff throughout CV-19 Pandemic.
Some nice features in this store, like the Starbucks cafe, the wine and beer bar, and the made-to-order pizza, sandwich, and Mexican food bar. BUT, you have to walk all over the store to get the basics - milk, juice, eggs, and bread. I HATE that! Why not put some of the basics right up front and make customers happy when they come in for a quick grocery stop? I am certain I am not the only one who would appreciate that consideration.
While waiting to self check out, I walked up to a register that wasnt open. I didnt notice. The cashier that was working the line said, that lines not open. I waited my turn for the next available register. When we were checking out the register required a cashiers assistance. When she came over to me, she asked me, whats the problem? I explained that my teenage daughter was assisting me and placed something on the bagging scale and moved another bag at the same time and the register locked up. The cashier said, you need to calm down. My daughter looked at me & we both kind of giggled because we thought she was talking to the register. I then said, I know these things always go off on me. She then looked at me and said, no, you need to calm down. My daughter and I were both completely confused. So, I asked her, excuse me? So, she thought it was necessary to say again that I needed to calm down....again! I have absolutely no idea what she was referring to. I was attempting to have a relaxing, fun weekend with my daughter and to be treated like I was a child? A poorly behaved child no less? Needless to say, Im not too happy about it. Her statement and behavior was completely unacceptable & not at all what I am use to experiencing at my home Kroger.
I called for the bakery department and pressed 1as I was prompted, message said I put in an invalid #, I was asked again to push 1 for bakery, pressed 1 again and a third time, same thing. I finally pressed a different #, maybe 5, and it rang for about 3 min before I decided to hang up. I REALLY wanted is o place an order for a birthday cake for Tuesday or Wednesday.I will find another bakery.
The store is HUGE! Its stocked well and has a great selection. Its also open 24 hours and we learned the hard way that many other places on the island close at 9, even during the height of tourist season. Thanks for being great Kroger! There is also a gas station at this store, but it is at the other end of the shopping center and you cant see it from the store.
Being that I work at Kroger. We have many selection of food for many people with different taste. Our sushi bar has widen. Bakery and deli is so good. Seafood is outstanding for steaming your seafood is on point. We soon will have a wine bar. So tell your family and friends to come and try us out. And dont forget about our clicklist where you shop online and pick up at the store by pharmacy.
Very poorly stocked, compared to the Kroger in Yorktown, VA. For example: no Kroger brand soft drinks, very very limited selection of Murray cheese, La Brea breads and wines.
Everyone was very helpful and kind. I give it a 4 star and not a 5 star due to that I needed a Kroger s card to get the discount and over payed. If youre from out of town they should give you a card discount just for that reason.
Sweet Jesus on a golden hammock, the wine selection. For a grocer, the selection was large and very impressive. The rest of the store was also large and very impressive having loads more food choices than I was expecting. When your store has an antipasto bar and a speciality cookie bar I dont know what else to say other than good job sirs and madams. Good job. Final note, you certainly have a lot of items sitting at the entrance, I love that you have that much trust in your customers!
I used to shop at Kroger in Hilton Head and now only go if I absolutely have to. There are never enough lines open with cashiers and the self checkout is horribly backed up. The service from employees is much to be desired as they are often rude. There are also half stocked shelves with boxes lining the aisles instead of on the shelves for lengthy periods of time. Im not sure what is going on in this store?
Well, I wouldnt know how to start. Ok. Its the island favorite store. My first place to go because I know I will find everything what I may need. Its a family store, you can go there and have a lunch or seat w friends at Starbucks and enjoy the pastries they have. Garden section, lovely. I will go on and on and on. Everybody, just go there and have a wonderful experience!!!!!!
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.NO cashiers. All self checkout. Several costumers had to do the self check with limited staff available. My family and I had several issues with the self checkout machine. The staff member named Jim came over to assist and actually told me to stop whining about the register. He actually said that.I will NEVER step goot in this location again in life.
The whole Kroger complex on Hilton Head is all new since Ive last visited the island. OMG - this place is amazing. The fruit and vegetable section is huge and everything is so fresh. The store is so big and they have a little bit of everything - with very good prices. Its a little too big for a quick trip to the grocery store, but if you need to stock up on your groceries, this place is perfect. Helpful staff and very clean.
My favorite supermarket on Hilton Head. Friendly service, well organized store with great produce and great selection. This store has really stepped up their game and has added a growler station with craft beers to go, as well as a bar where you can grab a pint and sit on the patio and enjoy it or some prepared food, but what they really have improved is two things, craft beer selection and cashier service. The craft selection has really improved so that they now carry all local beers plus many outside the area craft, but also select releases from the likes of Westbrook. The Westbrook Rines, and Repeat series gets into the store 2-3 days after hitting the brewery and the quantity is available for multiple days. I always found the lines at this store long, and now it seems like they have put on many cashiers so the wait is almost minimal. Kudos to management for really making the store a premier supermarket.
Friendly staff, store stocked pretty good. What really made me write this review is how fast the coin counter was at the self-checkout line. Typically when I have to insert coins in the self-checkout kiosk it takes forever to count. It typically takes like 11 seconds and I would hear the pennies rolling down and down the inner tunnels of the machine. However the machine at this Kroger (CHEC 522) was right on the money! As soon as I inserted the coin, it (CHEC 522) automatically knew WHAT I put in there and how much change is left on my order. It is truly high-tech!
Great store with many good food options!
They’re lucky to get any stars! Our cashier didn’t say 1 word to us and 2 baggers standing on each side of us watched us bag our groceries. Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Nice job Kroger 👎🏻
Grocery store is nice and clean. Shelves could have used stocked. What really was ridiculous is that they had one cashier in the express lane and one cashier for the regular. The rest was all self check out. I find that ridiculous. Hire some cashiers!!
Great variety but asked for help concerning the availability of a particular potato chip. Store clerks seemed confused on why I would ask them for help but did help me. That particular chip wasnt sold there and the clerk provide no other options. After a 30 second glance, I found a substitute that was Kroger brand that the clerk didnt even attempt to look for or recommend.
Always dependable. Typically crowded. The draw back of being on Hilton Head island. Competitive prices on food stuff. Other items you may need at the beach, sunglasses, sun block, etc. are pricier than at a drug store or big box stores.
Nice store except for the fact that they had no vanilla creamer or butter. Great beer and wine selection.
This is my favorite market in my area, however its a bit dated. I would like it if they would be as sparkling and crispy as our Publix is. I still do my weekly shopping here for the prices and quality.
Slowest deli ever. People working in the deli dont care how slow they are. Would be faster to drive off the island and get your food than to come here. Staff change is needed in either/both deli or management for allowing this.
Ebony was super nice!! She was very personable and made my day when we went through her line. This woman deserves some praise for her positive attitude and great work tonight.
Clearly the biggest and best Kroger that you would have been in.... It has huge departments of fresh produce, wine and everything else under the sun...it also has a bar where you can actually sit down and have a drink....and of course it has a large assortment of candy, olives xcetera....if this Kroger got any bigger they could charge for tickets because it would be a museum..... its a must-see
Great supermarket, fresh vegetables, fruits, also organic. All the meats you desire. Fresh and frozen fish. And clean ta boot.
Ok. But very busy! Store so big that if you are not familiar with the layout it can take awhile! Registers are running full - some cashiers could be more friendly. Also more carriages are needed by the lower entrance.
Nice clean store with great quality and great prices.Makes whole foods/Amazon look like a jewelry store.I will estimate that a regular shopping day for the weeks worth of groceries will cost less than 1/2 of what you would payat WF/A.IMO, the Quality is at least the same or better.I will be shopping at Kroger from now on when traveling. We dont have any where we live.
Great supermarket, fresh vegetables, fruits, also organic. All the meats you desire. Fresh and frozen fish. And clean ta boot.
Nice people. I love the natural/healthy section
This place is too big. They do not carry but one item that I actually want. I must go there to purchase that item. There were not enough files open and the lines were obstructing paths through the store. Someone had dropped a bottle of hot sauce or tomato sauce in the only 10 item fast checkout line. No one was attending to it. I had to move to another line where one of the customers actually let me move in front of her as she so I only had a few things.I know a lot of people like Kroger but its just too big a store for me.
Decent local grocery store with all the necessities. Easy place to shop and get what you need. Love the store.
Clean store, produce fresh and good variety. Parking is good. Adequate number of registers open to accommodate shoppers.
The most Gucci Kroger I have ever visited. They have everything you could need from sunscreen to the largest wine selection you have ever seen. Great selection of fresh, sliced fruit and awesome bakery selection. No more Piggly Wiggly for us. Kroger all the way!
I ordered groceries for delivery at my vacation home. They never arrived. I called their company. No one owned the mistake. Kroger blamed Instacart. Instacart blamed Kroger. So basically I was out $228 and no groceries like they committed to. All I got were empty apologies and please come into our store and we will give you $40 off your next order. Ridiculous. Buyer beware...this is not the way a national chain should treat their customers.
I ordered flowers for a small wedding and it was a mess. I ordered 2 bouquets, 6 boutonnieres, and 3 wrist corsages. The floral department is a hassle to get on the phone and slow to respond to emails, if the emails were responded to at all. I called, emailed, and visited to confirm everything and it still was not correct. I did add wrist corsages to the order after I placed it but I did call to confirm the change. The flowers were wrapped in plastic instead of floral tape and the boutonnieres were too large to stay pinned up. When I called to confirm the order the week of the wedding, I was informed that the person I had been dealing with was on vacation. So, someone else completed the order. The wrist corsages were not done when I sent someone to pick up the flowers. It was much more stressful than it needed to be.
Krogers was very clean and had a great selection of breads and salad but there is no grocery store etiquette people will bump into you and walk in the wrong direction sometimes I didnt even know which way to go but the store was nice.
Favorite Kroger - giant selection with stellar deli and cheese shop. Try the brisket!UPDATE: NO MORE BRISKET! So sorry that isnt available. Got me in the store one or more times a week, when now its every month it so. I really miss it. However, they made up for it by installing a beer and wine Cafe, which, frankly, is better than the brisket ever was...$2 beers on tap just cant be best while driving your cup holder equipped cart. Seriously, its a good time.
They carry big name brands but not as much as their own. Prices are comfortable. Shelves are usually stocked.
Very clean problem with self checking out but great help fixed it fast
Went to get some quick lunch at the asian bar in the shelter cove Kroger. once i got back and started eating it, the chicken was refrigerator cold. $7.00 and no lunch...still hungry and hopefully not sick from the piece of cold chicken i did eat.
Nice, big store with lots of variety. Good deli and produce areas. Some of the employees had a bad case of the grumps, which is why they didnt get five stars.
Very busy when I went there. There was a lot of missing products due to the amount of tourists. The staff was very helpful and the checkout was very fast. The only big negative was a train of shopping carts was left in the middle of the parking lot causing a traffic jam in the parking lot. I ended up getting out and moved the train of carts out of the way. Im not sure if it was forgotten there by a employee or it just rolled away from the shopping cart return. But yeah. Good place to shop, lots of variety.
Absolutely the most overwhelmed Kroger. Shopping carts are typically all over the place in the parking lot and the shelves are always ravaged and under stocked. For real Kroger hire some people or get it together.
Big store. Good selection. Prices not bad. I only wish the deli moved faster.
I have never been so sick off of food. Ate their Chinese buffet. It was later in the day, so I suppose the food had sat out too long. Made call to manager. He informed me I was wrong and their food could not have been the cause. Apparently Kroger now employs physicians as managers. All I was looking for was a sorry, thank you for telling us, we are pulling the food off the line to avoid any other people having issues. They did not pull the food. Beware!
Great store for stocking up the vacation rental condo. Very busy though, so shopping earlier in the day is a good ideaVery good wine and beer selections.
Thank goodness its here and the Starbucks is a plus. However there is no staff in the aisles to help you find items. The cashiers dont know where anything is either. This needs to improve because the store is enormous and not in a typical geocery store layout.
Great place to get what you need or forgot. Great staff that helped me out finding what I needed.
