I was visiting and all of a sudden I was in the mood for something rich and chocolaty π. So naturally I googled chocolate in Houston and I stumbled across this chocolate dream. My fellow chocoholics this place has anything you may want when you have a craving. We got 2 slices of cake and on the way out I decided to get ice cream. So delish! Id travel there again to get a whole cake, just because!
Came here to experience the chocolate factory that was well advised.First of all the employees working are not happy. This is a happy place :) chocolate is happiness but the staff was extremely down. The shop was so dirty itβs the first timeI took pictures of a location to share and review we got up because we felt like the establishment was not taking care of the business especially during this time. The chocolate items we alsoGot were not that well made.
My all time favorite dessert place in all of Houston and I was born and raised here. I live in Katy but go out of my way to come here every chance I get. Has everything chocolate, from cakes to ice cream to chocolate covered treats! Has great gift items too. Super cute place
Awesome place. First time here at their main and only location. I been previously going to the old W Alabama location thatβs permanently closed. This location is larger and I donβt feel as crammed. Variety is great, service is great, sweet tooth cravings are resolved here. Wish parking was a little more friendly - trying to park a truck in tiny spaces along W University is a challenge.
Chocolate and Vanilla Tres LechesUncle Darryl cakeFirst thoughts-Uncle Darryl is the biggest slice I have ever seen for a cake! lolI love the toffee and chocolate sauce addition. I did think it was a little too rich for my liking and also on the dry side. I prefer a moist cake not a dry one. The chocolate and vanilla tres leches was good but one of the cake slices was broken. Thats not cool. Price wise it is on the more expensive side. After all this place is located in the rice village area.Other than that dessert is good and I do want to try some others next time I go there.
Honestly a bit disappointed in how dirty and poor kept this business is! The tiramisu was delicious yes, the German Chocolate Cake was moist and the peanut butter cups where great. But for a business with a Houston Press award and so many great reviews it was down right filthy!! The tables, chairs and floors dirty, the cake coolers dirty and crumbs everywhere on the shelves with the cakes. The ice cream area was dirtier than a Baskin Robins in the bad part of town. Very discouraging.Clean your restaurant please throughout the day.
It has been 5 years since I have been able to enjoy a slice of their delicious chocolate cake. I often reminisce on the photo I took of my last slice. I am dreaming of the day I can make another trip to Houston to enjoy this wonderful cake again. Until then, please keep The Chocolate Bar in business. π
I love chocolate so when I arrived to The Chocolate Bar I was in chocolate heaven! All kinds of chocolate bars, truffles, super delicious chocolate cakes and so much more! Delicious and also a happy and upbeat environment. Yummy!
You can have cheap chocolate from Walgreens or a grocery store.ORYou can have good chocolate from The Chocolate Bar!And great cookies, pies & cakes. Their ice cream is the best. And once you have their hot chocolate you will be ruined for lide
On a whim I wanted cake today. So I came in here for some Vanilla Tres Leches and OMG cheesecake. The selection of cakes were spectacular.Woahhhh...Two slices of cake and a water was $25!Thatβs a steep price for cake but the slices they give you are pretty large, definitely a splurge for the wallet.I am disappointed that they didnβt have WiFi that reached to the βfrontβ of the building. The staff said I would have to sit near the back and the name for the WiFi was weird and they werenβt sure if the WiFi even worked! So I used my hot spot.It doesnβt seem like the staff cleans regularly in the front. There was ice cream drops on the floor and plastic wrappers on the tables and ground. We had to wipe off our table and as you can see ice cream under our table. Gross! The OMG Cheesecake was very potent and strong chocolate peanut butter smell. The chocolate crust was very thick, filling and delicious. The Tres Leches comes in vanilla and chocolate. I got the vanilla, the texture was good but it could have been a tad bit more moist.Clearly by the photos there cake presentation is amazing and they provide individual wrapped utensils and boxes for each slice of cake. Staff is really friendly and nice. Next time if Iβm in the mood for cake Iβd get it to go! The dining area was empty and not very clean.PS: they used to offer 1/2 off dipped fruit after 8pm but stopped because of covid. It was a good deal I hope they bring it back! I miss my midnight chocolate dipped strawberries.
This place had an incredible selection of ice cream, candy, and pastries. It was hard to choose as everything looked amazing!
I love the Tres Leches cake π.
Great chocolates, cakes and ice cream. Always a polite helpful crew to meet your every need. Its decadent and so delicious.
Get the Aunt etta chocolate cake!
Awesome selection of everything sweet, and I highly approve of the half-off the price of chocolate dipped fruits once it gets close to closing time (exact time escapes me). No reason for good fruit to go bad, even if it does cost a little bit of profit.Had a slice of the NY Cheesecake and it tastes outstanding.
We had the bodacious brownie cake and Oreo cheesecake. Really good no complaints for those. The peanut butter cup and the chocolate covered twinkie were hard. The twinkie was so chewy. Not pleased with either of those.Service was good.
Who doesnβt love desserts? This place has a great selection of desserts and they never disappoint.
We loved the ice cream and cake, very yummy. A little on the pricey side. The area seems safe as well which is a big deal when traveling from another state.
Great place for people who love chocolate. π also, people who work in this place are great.
Amazing confections and courteous staff make every trip here delightful. If you like chocolate, you have to try this place. Personal favorites: Uncle Daryl layer cake, dark chocolate caramel pretzel rods, and dark chocolate pecan turtles.
First time here. Got the rainbow sherbet(a bit on the tangy side), chocolate fudge swirl, and an iced sβmores latte. Paid around $11. The ambience is a bit off. Half store to shop around half tables with the counter in the middle. Didnβt know where to order or how since each section has a different register and it was pretty busy for a Thursday so thankfully I asked another customer how it went about. Overall nice experience for the kiddos.
My husband and I always come for the awesome cakes and pastries. I always used to love coming here, the decor is great and this place literally makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. I always recommend friends to come here for a quick date night coffee. I was recently turned off during my last visit when I asked for a cup of water. The young man pointed me to the back of the store where the free water station was right outside of the bathroom. It would have been too easy for the cashier to hand me a cup of water instead. Chocolate Bar please fix this because youre ruining an otherwise pleasant experience.
I really enjoyed myself. They have wide variety of chocolates and ice cream.
There is a variety of chocolates to choose from. The Any Day Cake quadrupled later cake is worth to try for. White chocolate pretzel good.
Great place to visit and indulge your sweet tooth. Had fun trying to choose what chocolates to try.
YUMMY YUMMY!!! I could take up permanent residence in this place.
The chocolate bar was a staple of my undergrad experience at Rice. Although most people think of it as a chocolate/cake shop first, their ice cream is actually one of the best parts and it is so good! Their cakes are also spectacular. As a chocolate lover, you just canβt go wrong here.
Lot of variety. Very clean. Delish
We came here last year when visiting and it was so good we came back again. Theres a huge selection of chocolate, cakes, brownies, cookies, shakes, ice cream. Its all very indulgent, the cakes are light though and so was the tiramisu that I had. The brownies are delicious but probably best to share!
The Chocolate Bar was absolutely heavenly!! There are only two locations in Texas, and I am so jealous that there are none like it in NY!! You can get holiday themed chocolate (this time it was Valentines Day), different chocolates based on the occasion, such as graduating from college, weddings, baby showers, or even treats for your dog! They also have a counter where you can buy small individually covered things in chocolate or other sweets, such as truffles, covered strawberries, or even things like pringles and pretzels! I didnt get to try it, but I believe they also sell ice cream and other dishes, as well as having a sit down side of the shop to enjoy them!
Great desserts including macarons, cookies, two full refrigerated cases of cakes, ice cream, and chocolate covered fruit and chocolate covered other things as well but the service at the chocolate strawberry case was atrocious (my group thought he was stoned). I dont think the person helping had never dealt with the public before or had any training. Just based on that experience I would never come here again but I dont think the rest of the people here or like that so Im willing to give him another chance.
New place, bigger than the other spot. Its a lot harder to park
Walked in upon store opening with not so much as a greeting. No hello or welcome in. Nothing. The tall gentleman working didnβt appear to want to be at work. Bought two little chocolates. One was a salted caramel and the inside was like mush. Not like a chewy caramel by any means. The other chocolate truffle and it tasted like cheap hot coco. No smooth texture to it like you would expect a truffle to have. Needless to say, will not be returning. More so than my dislike of the chocolate, it was the lack of customer service that really did it for me.
The Chocolate bar is a small dessert shop offering chocolate, truffles, ice cream and pastries. Plan on spending $7 to $10 per item. The music is subtle and there is plenty of seating. The three downsides to visiting:1. Free parking is very limited. Parking is paid for unless you use the garage across the street which is free for 2 hours or the few spots at the store front.2. Bathrooms were dirty and smelled pretty bad3. After buying 2 desserts to share with my wife, a box of truffles and a slice of cake to go I asked to purchase a glass of water and was told I would have to use the water fountain by the disgusting bathrooms. This ruined the visit and I will not be back.
This is our favorite place for cake! we frequent the chocolate bar and make a few trips per month to grab several slices. We absolutely love the aunt ettas! we had both sets of grandparents come to town for my daughters 9th birthday, and we decided to splurge on a whole cake, just knowing how excited she would be. my husband picked up the cake just before closing time at 8pm since we needed it mid day the following day before they opened. he promptly brought it home and stored according to the directions given to him by the employees in the store. by the next day, the entire cake had collapsed. I cant believe there arent any supports placed inside the cake! Id planned to decorate it with birthday stuff, which I couldnt even do. Im a baker myself and couldnt even piece the cake back together. we had no time for a replacement. it tasted great, but was an absolutely mess. and its impossible to store for leftovers. its broken into 3 pieces and collapsed in the middle. we had justified the cost thinking we could freeze a few slices for later and eat the rest in the days following her birthday. but its a gooey/dried out on the edges mess that cant even be sliced.I expect more from a $100 cake, however. it was a total bust. from now on we will stick to slices only. delicious, but dont order a whole cake. total waste of money.
If you can think of it, they have it in chocolate. There are strawberries, bananas, rice krispy treats, actual wine bottles, and doggie biscuits. They also have about a dozen different ice cream flavors, some cookies, brownies, and cakes.Funny thing.Out of all the chocolate, I picked a piece of peanut butter fudge. It was super rich.Only took four small bites and felt like I almost ODed.If you indulge at the chocolate bar, make sure you have a designated driver. #Donβt chocolate π« and drive.
Almost great. Was really disappointment when I bought a dozen of Pretzel Rods and it all went straight into a paper bag. Cant even have a proper container or a box? You guys sell premium/expensive chocolates and cant have a box?
This place always hits the spot when you want chocolate overload. The brownies π....
Seems like it is under new management.Everything has changed about this place. Bad decor and cake recipes have also changed since we were last here about two years ago. Do not recommend at all. Sad to see one of Houstonβs best turn into one of Houstonβs worst dessert stops.
Delicious, but I am amazed they dont sell individual milk bottles. Really seems like a wasted opportunity. Because their decadent brownies deserve a milk pairing.
Im a chocolate lover, so this place is my heaven on earth. I love the variety of treats and ice cream they have available. Im not sure if its the current COVID-19 situation, but the variety is much smaller than before. When I stopped by earlier today, the case was almost empty. Hopefully the variety goes back to normal soon.
The Chocolate Bar is located in Rice Village. Metered parking is available, and 2 hour free parking in one of the two garages within a block or two of the restaurant. There are a few spots that are free after 6pm but theyre usually all filled up especially on the weekends. This establishment has long been a great staple of Rice Village. The inside is very open and inviting. There is a rather large seating area with booths along the wall and free-standing tables. Of note, there are no visible outlets so you wouldnt really be able to stay here for prolonged periods of time studying or working per se. On Thursday nights the tables and chairs get pushed back and the local swing dance society comes out to dance the night away; even if youre not interested in dancing its nice just to come hear the music and watch others glide across the floor.Another cool thing is that the chocolate bar offers carob treats for our four-legged friends; whenever I need to get a gift for someone with a pup I venture here first to peruse their carob selection. The treats come shaped like little bones in various sizes and with their very own little doggy bowls. They also have a nice selection of ice creams - I usually get the snowberry. The cone is at now extra charge and the price is pretty reasonable $4.28 with tax for one scoop.
I love chocolate π« so my review might be biased, but I loved it here π ...just bought one slice of cake and it was so yummy! Nice serving.. Ate it over a course of three days. So excited I forgot to take a picture. Ill definitely go back. We received a small discount as the slice of cake we got was broken.Small amount of ppl were dining in, I didnt, but employees wore mask as they served.
THE BEST CAKE IVE EVER HAD!! I enjoyed this place very much, the cake options are amazing. Definitely will be returning. Prices are pretty fair for the huge slice of cake you get
Dessert was fine, but the staff was curt and unhelpful. We went here for dessert for my brothers birthday and will not return. There are simply too many options in Houston for me to go somewhere with rude and aggressive staff.
This place is awesome, expensive but well worth it!
I went about a month ago and itβs just a shell of its former self. Way less items and changed decor that makes it less welcoming (also staff was less welcoming than in the past). My whole family was disappointed at the changes. I understand COVID restrictions but I think this has something to do with management more than the pandemic. I donβt think Iβll be back anytime soon unless something changes for the better.
Very good German Chocolate Cake.
We always get our cakes here- excellent for big parties. My personal fav is the Boston cream pie (55$) but they have huge two layer cakes (like the one in pic for 75$). Only drawback, they donβt make the cakes daily- even if you order them in advance. Theyβre always max 1 week old but if I call a week ahead I would prefer to have it made the morning of. European standards :) still only once I had a cake that tasted old (over ~10 cakes/3years).
Good place.
Tried the cakes and milkshakes, the milkshakes were worth the cakes were alright
Has a plethora of chocolate selections, and many cakes to choose from, however, I wish they would have more gluten free cakes available. Out of 15 cakes, they only had one, which was a flourless chocolate cake. It tasted good, but something I could have baked myself. The chocolate on the shelves was quite expensive.
Amazing ice cream!! Friendly and helpful staff!!
Awesome glad they are reopened.
Hands down the best dessert place in Houston! The chocolate cake was delicious & so was the banana pudding ice cream we had. Staff was very helpful & friendly. Looking forward to going back to try some of the many other desserts.
Great place for desserts. They have multiple kinds of cakes and ice creams. Also have lots of chocolate items like dipped strawberries and Oreos and other items. Can find most anyone a dessert here. Recommend the Uncle Darryl or tiramisu!
The European hot chocolate is D I V I N E, along with the southern pecan cookie and Uncle Darrylβs cake. Good place for those late nights when you just crave chocolate with an undying passion.
Nice place!! Their ice cream is so nice
Always love going here. Took my husband for his first time.
Wow just wow. If you have a sweet tooth this place will likely have a fix for you be it cookies, cakes, candies or all of the above. Very friendly staff, who have actually tried their products, seriously if you ask them what their favorite thing is in the shop you will probably end up getting it.
Amazing options. I love sharing this place with my friends. Everything from super sweet to subtle and sour or caffeinated, this place is the perfect shop to grab a pick-me-up treat, buy novelty/Texas sweets or hang out with friends.
One stop cheat shop for everything chocolate! One of the best places for dessert in Rice. From cakes (try the humungous slice of uncle Darryls!) to ice cream to chocolates to edible gifts to good coffee!
First let me start with the good. The ice cream is fantastic, the cakes are delicious and the staff is super friendly. However, I spend $50 on chocolate popcorn and sβmores (nicely packaged) but they taste like OLD food that has been seating in the shelves for months. The popcorn was chewy, bland and taste like cardboard. The marshmallow in sβmores was absolutely dry and the graham cookie has zero crunch and very chewy. I didnβt get my moneyβs worth and I have to say Iβm extremely disappointed because everything looked so good.
Great milk chocolate turtle and coffee and very clean.
Such gooooood chovolate!!! Took the whole fam and we each got 2 scoops of icecream and brought a piece of cake home Togo!!!! Its a HUGE slice of cake!!! Yum! But we did prefer their decor when it was purple and had all the vintage candy
Love the Wedding Cake from here. My niece loves to go buy bags of the chocolate rocks, too!
Love the food and also the service is really good.
This place is a kids paradise! Youll be hard-pressed to find another place to satisfy your sweet tooth!
Everything about The Chocolate Bar is great! There is so much to choose from and they have nice people working there. The atmosphere is really nice and clean. I would definitely recommend this place, Especially the European Hot chocolate!!! It is the best Hot chocolate I have ever had! I know that sounds exaggerated but its 100% true.
This place is great. Plenty of space to move around.
Awesome place. The folks here were very friendly the moment we walked through the door. It was our first time here and the two young ladies behind the counter were kind enough to let us know everything they offered.
Been coming here for several years now. Best place in town for when your sweet tooth hits. I always try to get something different every visit and Im never dissatisfied.
Awesome place. The folks here were very friendly the moment we walked through the door. It was our first time here and the two young ladies behind the counter were kind enough to let us know everything they offered. We were told they had recently remodeled. Very beautiful inside. What a great place to visit and in such a unique shopping area.
I still love the place. For some reason the wow factor has gone. The texture and taste of the ice cream is just different now. Flavors here used to be different and used to pop. Now its like any other ice cream store. Cakes are still the same and great as ever. Hot chocolate was out of order last two times I went
If you love chocolate. This place is where itβs at. Pricey but worth it. Love their truffles and ice cream. Staff went out of their way to help. I will come back and would recommend. Cakes portions are pricey but can easily satisfy 2 people.Price: BQuality: ATaste: AService: A+
Good selection for chocolate lovers. Hope they are as amazing now as I remember them to be!
The individual chocolates are pretty hit or miss and the prices are a bit high on them for the quality.but the other stuff is great and the place is worth a trip and a return trip and a third. lots of selection, dipped fruit, ice cream candies etc.if you are in the area and have some time its a good place to stop buy, youll find something you like, the price though, not super high, but not super cheap.
Omg so delicious I had the tuxedo cheese cake and it was amazing really rich and creamy and the crust was not dry it was just perfect I look forward to going back and trying more delicious items my friends I went with had the German chocolate cake and the Oreo cheesecake they were so moist and delicious
The chocolates are in good quality.
Wow. The Bodacious Brownie Cake... there are no words. This place is heaven for chocolate lovers, as you would expect! There are tons of options of cake, pie, ice cream cookie, confection, etc. Definitely treat yourself to the Chocolate Bar!
Great place to get all your chocolate treats. They have gift for your dog to your doctor. All kinds of sweet treats for everyone. Their cakes are magnificent and ice cream is good. Stop by any day of the week and get treats for all occasions. Literally!
