Awesome find in downtown! Unbelievable artists and creators.
This awesome art gallery is located in an awesome shopping center filled with quite a few unique local shops. Before COVID they had regular art shows that showcased all kinds of different local talent. Very affordable art and an awesome collection of very talented artists pieces in one place. They have even been having virtual art shows online to continue supporting artists in the area. Definitely look them up and try to catch a show when you can, you won’t regret it!
Great place to check out local art!
I love coming here every time they have an event! I love the different themes and how they support local artists and women. Mixed crowd, always good food trucks or pop ups. They usually have free beer or mixed drinks. (With a suggested donation.) The bathrooms are always clean. I just wish the entrance was more spacious. When its busy you have to push through like at a club. I love that its pet friendly because I get to see cute dogs when I go. Some events are family friendly also. Parking can be difficult. Its better to arrive early especially so you can be able to buy the art and prints before they sell out.
Attended an Art Exhibition recently. The area is small for a large group of people and gets congested. However, the artists and artwork are definitely something to look forward to.Usually they have food trucks outside the venues too, so definitely a good place to spend time with friends.Must visit for Art Lovers! 🎨Don’t miss the brilliant wall art/wall murals in the same neighborhood!
Ok, 1st off this place has several different Art shows through out the year & they also have a store attached to it for misc. Pieces. The Art shows are a little small, or at least the horror show I went to but there was a lot of great work from a lot of different artist. These picss are just some of the artists work that was at this show. Oh yeah, I know that 1 of the things that they promote is bringing kids, dogs, etc. But I dont suggest either 1 for show nights just because it is small & some shows are more busy than others but to each there own I guess. Great local artist work, I highly suggest you really taking a look at the detail on some of these designs cause my pics. Might not have done justice to them, but take a good look at the (Trick or Treat / Sam) it is stitched & the playing card drawings are also from the same artist.
Love the breadth of artistic styles and low key atmosphere. Perfect to sip and stroll through eclectic space.
Most awesome place to get art
Very cool show..the kids and adults loved it!!
Love it when they had events. Always a good time. Lots of different themes for such a small area in the parking lot or just in the gallery. If youre a collector of albums, trinkets, art or, just old school in general it would be a good idea to find out when there next market party is.
Absolutely LOVE the art shows they out on.
Been to two art shows here. Really awesome art that has many price points. It makes owning stuff from local artists easy. Fun location. It can get packed and a larger space would nice
This place is a sweet little gem of a gallery in Houston. Very supportive of new artists, although maybe not too discerning, as not all of the things that they have in their shows are of the highest caliber, but, props to them for supporting beginners and becoming a major player in the underground Houston arts scene. This place is wonderful!
Always enjoy the art and adore the shirt. The Offspring have fun here, also!
Only been here once thus far; wandered in while attending the Mexican Independence Day festivities outside. It was interesting; a wide range of what looked like mainly very-good-amateur art, with some prints and framed items for sale. I appreciate their diversity statement! Ill keep an eye on their calendar to see what else they offer; from the other reviews theres a lot going on here!
One of my favorite spots in Houston. See you on the other side.
The best gallery in town supporting cool local and up-and-coming artists. They change installations frequently (sometimes weekly). Art themes are creative sometimes taboo, fun, and free or low cost. I’ve seen some great local bands here too. They sell quality artist toys, prints, shirts, pins, and records. Set in a cool old shopping area with ample parking and cool surrounding shops including Bohemeo’s coffee & beer next door.
This is a little place inside of a plaza full of the randomness of un-zoned Houston. It’s a surprisingly large space inside, the front half is a record store with some eclectic collectibles and merchandise. The back is an open art gallery where they have laid back and local art shows relatively often. There’s a little bar in the back that usually sports free beer on gallery nights. They are concealed carry and dog friendly. The culture is rather scene but it’s still a cool place for kids and family’s.
Its so cool and friendly. Great beer prices and great selection of art. Highly recommended.
I love Kid Robot and was excited when I saw one at Haight & Ashbury. The staff was super chill and nice. Great stuff to buy too.
I love this place! If you need a 1st print copy of the B52s Planet Claire, or something else more obscure and dont want to drive to Montrose, this is your place. They hold various events and support many local artists by having themed gallery openings. The staff is great, the restrooms are always clean, and there is plenty of parking. Located in the Tlaquepaque Plaza, this shopping center has much to offer, from coffee to Thai food, Tlaquepaque has it all, including Insomnia!
A wonderful unique indie art gallery. Stop in any time to see whats on the walls. Check their calendar and pick a themed show to view. Either way youll find a lot to look at! The staff is very helpful, and the shows are usually family friendly. If you check the calendar on their Facebook page theyll usually let you know if a show isnt meant for kids.
Quirky East Houston gem. Regular exhibits featuring local artists, with original material and prints for sale at affordable prices. Good music and beer too!
Great gallery space. Affordable art. Right next to a coffee shop and in a great area to walk around in. A lot of fun here.
Had a blast at the Lisa Frank art show. They have some cool pieces. I need to head back for another show!
Great store for collections, and toys!! I was invited for an art show tonight and was so happy i came! ! The artists of Houston and surrounding areas are great! Tonight was fantastic and Im glad to visit the store! The owner seemed very cool and was talking to people and showing them around and talking of the show tonight!! Love it!!
Mr coffee
Good describes the place as offering video games and toys... but this isnt really the place you go to to buy video games. This store has a limited selection of board games, but really its the place to go to if you want toys and collectibles - thats what they have in spades, and youll find an excellent variety of collectibles here.I wouldnt expect them to carry the specific games (tabletop, board or video) that Id be looking for, but I hope they consider carrying more kid-room-friendly items. Maybe some fun wall vinyls or plushes. Maybe even baby/kid sizes of shirts.
Fun place to explore! I’ve participated in a few art shows and each one has been a unique and fun theme and unless there’s a monsoon (Thanks Houston) there’s always great turn out!
Great venue for indie/emo/punk shows. Have been here several times and enjoy it each time
Interesting. Fun. I like the events. I will be going again soon
No longer a place for gamers to come together and have friendly tournaments. Not sure why its called insomnia when it doesnt even stay open late.*Update* if you are looking for a good place for gamers head on to Coral sword its just a few minutes away from Insomnia. They have weekly tournaments, pizza, chicken tenders, coffee, and board games!!
Great place. Unique inventory for any gaming/anime fan. Chris (the owner) hosts weekly competitions and events. They also support local Houston art. If youre at all curious about it- check it out asap! You wont regret it.
Went here because my sister was part of an art gallery. Really cool little place with Good Vibes! I really like the neighborhood that its in
I always have a great experience showing art here. The staff are very nice and put on fun events. They return your art with a lot of care, too.
Great staff. Everything great about an art gallery minus the pretentiousness and turtle necks. Id even argue better lighting than most.
Really cool art shows happen here, usually with free beer. If no art show is happening they are still open for business ! They sell pins, vinyls, art, stickers and other cool collectibles! Staff is nice !
This gallery / record shop is also an excellent performance space. Super cool owner, recommended.
This place is great for spending an hour or so. Records, pins, zines, stickers and toys, not to mention the art gallery in the back. Management is chill and the music is great.
First impressions are important Acknowledging the customer is important for success,. Houston is a large city, manners are a plus when it comes to my pocketbook.
More hangout joint than art gallery, though it had some fun, if very youthful and youth-oriented art and merch. A little Urban Outfitters in their concept and aesthetic. Staff was very uneven in quality.
Cool little store with some neat events. Everyone was really nice when we talked to them. Would definitely go back for another art show.
I learned about this place trying to find a store that sells Monster Hunter blind boxes. Its a neat little place, but customer service was lacking a bit. Looked like the guy was doing something on the computer the whole time. I even felt like I was being rude by interrupting him when I went up to the counter to make my purchase. He was very nice and helpful when my boyfriend asked questions about the blank vinyl figures however. Just didnt feel like the most welcoming atmosphere I guess.
Always love coming here for the events and atmosphere. Great way to explore local art.
Great little place with lots of events. I love the monthly punk rock garage sale
Great staff, great selection of art, pins, patches, buttons, and records. Always have a blast when I come here.
A store like no other, Insomnia Video Game culture provides a welcoming environment where anyone who loves collectibles, gaming, and a sense of friendly community can spend a great time. Chris, the owner, is a personable and helpful guy who happily holds tournaments, contests, and other activities which the costumers can enjoy on top of shopping for incredible custom art, one-of-a kind items, and imports galore. Visit this store. Support independent business.
Ok, so Im not sure where is/was those pictures with the big Insomnia sign taken at, because the place I went to, located in Telephone, is very small and hard to find because theres no sign.Id say, this place is one of those hidden gems from our city. Its a very small store, but for the size of it, they have a good veriety of prints, vinyls and toys. Good atmosphere.
Its a real chill place with great art shows. Food truck outside if you get hungry
Theyve got great punk shows, the staff offered to help me with my bloody nose from the pit. 10/10 great, caring, bloody awesome.
I frequent Insomnia for the art shows, but sometimes I drop by just to browse the records. Its a great shop for counter culture goodies like designer vinyl toys, cassette tapes, zines, enamel pins, and slaps.
A great Houston institution that has been a major part of the art scene in the city.
My mom took me here a few times while growing up and I just love the scene
A really great place to hang especially during their events! They showcase local artists including music artists.
I love this place. I have bought quite a few art pieces and plushies with more surely to come. The move to the Heights made it much easier to access and though it is now a further drive for me - It is one i happily make when possible!
It has lots of neat, game related items. But there were no actual video games to be found here. The Ramune and snacks were good.
Cool place with out of the way things
Awesome joint! The owner is rad!
Fantastic array of stickers prints and collectibles! Cool staff! Got some of my favorite honeybones prints and pins here!
My go to place for figurines and collectables in Houston. There are alot of selection inside and they host video game nights each week. The store owner is super nice and will assist you with any needs. A super fun place to hangout.
Accessible art with local artists and regular themes nights- Insomnia is a gem in Houston!!
Very unique place. Bi monthly video game tournaments
This place is so cool! The shop owner is awesome! Had a great selection of fluffy stuffed alpacas!
AMAZING PLACE With Amazing ART!
Been to several shows here. Nice, simple space for showcasing local art.
Awesome place for gifting the nerd or little ones in your life. Cool people, cool products and sweet events.
Really nice collectibles spot. Has a great mix of independent art, comics and pop culture items.
Local art gallery/record store, with a fantastic vibe and great reach in the community.
Awesome store. You wont find this awesome stuff in most places. Theres events such as tournaments on the weekend and the place looks cool.
Such a great market tonight. Picked up some great prints!
They have killer art shows and awesome products. Check em out!
Way over priced random objects. Put them in a gallery and call it art. Maybe 10th grade level. Nice music.
Great place to enjoy music and art in general
Everything was fabulous; the staff, the show just amazing.
One of the very few spots in Houston for lowbrow and other untraditional art installations. Also a counter culture store with music and figures.
Awsome place. I purchased some megaman art from here. The owner throws some awesome parties there sometimes.
Nice place, sells cool stuff, a resource for getting in touch with houstons local art scene, even selling prints of some of the lesser known artists. Has a room for small gallery shows and of course lots of nerdy knick knacks, albums, and Japanese novelties.
Everyone seemed indifferent, not bad, it just lacked the love you expect with music
