This shop is awesome. Staff is laid back, yet very professional. They did top notch repair work on my strandberg, service was fast and very reasonably priced.I will definitely be returning to them for all my future repairs!

I left my amp with steamboat for about a month and specifically told them what was wrong with it when I dropped it off. My amp would switch channels and the boost would engage by itself after the tubes warmed up for like 15-20 mintues. Also when this happened the amp would not register gain from a pedal. The boost light on my amp would flicker when this was happening, the amp letting you know something was wrong.They told me they finally figured out the problem after I called them on 3 different occasions for an update on a diagnosis which then after they would give you a quote on the repair. They charge $60/hr minimum to diagnose your amp. Had they even really worked on it at least that much they would have at least seen the amp misbehaving the way I said it did, I dont believe they were even listening when I explained what was wrong with it, because they admitted they didnt see it switching and claimed it was the footswitch that was the problem, which I had explained to them it wasnt because it would react that way even without a footswitch being used. When I called the guy to tell him that he didnt repair the problem about a half hour later after I got home and tested it or properly diagnose the problem he said he wouldnt be able to fix the amp because he wouldnt be able to figure out the internal computer and that the labor was justified because he fixed my pedal, which did NOT need repair. He hung up on me twice when I asked about a refund because he returned it an entire month later in the same condition I brought it to him. Dont waste your money here, they will rip you off and scam you if they can. Its a real shame too, their store is very nice and they seem on the outside to really care, I really would rather support local business but even guitar center blows these guys out of the water when it comes to customer service

Kinda sad I am forced to at least give this place 1 star. It deserves none to be honest. Some bald dude (Im guessing the owner) has no good customer service. Hes an ahole! Just go elsewhere.

Very knowledgeable about pro quality amps and guitars. Best tube amp build and repair shop in this part of the country.

Don’t take your beloved tube amps anywhere else for repairs and modifications. Their Steamboat branded gear is unbelievable, so be sure to try it out when you visit.

This is the best shop inside the loop. I dont travel too much outside the loop so probably the best in the city

Capt. Jake and his crew resurrected my early 70s Sunn Model T from a chassis fire. Very down to earth and honest people. The shop is a musicians toy store with tons of cool stuff to try and buy! Will be coming back to grab my very own Steamboat in the future!

Called to get help with repairs on a tube amp.I was told he didnt think he could work on my amp. Nor could he offer any recommendations as to who might be able to repair said amp.As I was trying to ask if he knew what a symptom of amp oscillation would be I was told I dont have to hear your complaining and hung up on me before I could ask my question.A complete waste of a repair guy as far as I can tell.

I was expecting much longer because he had to order the part from the manufacturer but I I was pleasantly surprised. Im definitely taking my next repair job back there.

I took my Peavey 6505+ here to get the tubes replaced. It literally sounds better than the day I got it. These guys know what theyre doing, and arent overpriced.

Awesome dude. The owner honors his work and does it right the first time. Prices are good especially considering the quality of work. Also have a service option for instruments and the Strat I had them setup hasn’t played that good in years. Definitely check out the pedals they have some brands that are hard to find and The owner plays everything and will give you his honest opinion no BS’ing just to sell you something.

I buy a ton of old tube amps, from all over the country. More often than not they are in dire need of repair. Jake, Juan, and the rest of the team, also manage to take my crazy junkyard finds, and repair them to better than new. Best repair shop in town, with people who care about what they say and do.

This is an excellent custom amp and guitar repair shop. Its just north of downtown Houston but well worth the drive if you want to get the job done right. If somethings not right the owner will make it right at no extra charge.

I have been taking my amps into Jakes shop for years, and he has almost never failed to work wonders on his workbench, particularly with tube heads. I have nothing but praise to give him after he most recently made significant repairs to my ailing SVT. Cheers!

I have had an amp repaired and recently took a strat in for some work. Both experiences were great. Quality work, very fair prices and my gear was ready to be picked up before I expected the repairs to be completed. My fender amp repaired over a year ago works great and a newly acquired strat is in working shape for gigs now. Good guys, easy to work wibw and definitely be my 1st choice for any future.needs. their amps and cabs are quite nice as well...maybe someday! Would like a new extentioe for.my mesa.
