10/10 great coffee, great food, great people! We got the loaded avocado toast and caramel lattes with oat milk. One of the best lattes I’ve had very well balance between espresso and the oat milk not too sweet just PERFECT!the loaded avocado toast was so delicious I didn’t want to finish it!Absolutely gem! I love a great coffee shop.
This place was so amazing! I had a caramel latte and a donut. The latte was delicious and had beautiful art on top. The donut was honestly probably the best donut I’ve ever had and I thought it was really fun that it had an edible flower on it. I love that this shop is vegan (although they do offer cheese and milk if you want it) and gluten free. There was plenty of street parking even though I visited on a Sunday. I will definitely be back every time I visit Jacksonville!
Our first stop in our trip started off with this place. Nice sized restaurant to grab a bit to eat or some coffee. Food comes out pretty quick and is delish. We had the chik’n salad sandwich and a lox bagel. Both tasted great. They’ve got a small selection of other goodies and gear to choose from if your interested.
Love this place, and I can walk to it! Great menu and the biscuits are to die for. The salads and breakfast bowls are great as well. Lovely little atmosphere for dining in with friends and family. Great for people watching.
Best gluten free biscuits ever! Honestly, you cant go wrong ordering here, everything is delish!
EPIC... AMAZING... PHENOMENAL... 🤩🤩🤩MY FIRST TIME VISITING THIS INCREDIBLE ESTABLISHMENT DEFINITELY WONT BE MY LAST.... THE OWNERS ARE AMAZING I FELT WELCOME ... FRIENDLY & CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.... FOOD IS VERY DELICIOUS & FULFILLING... THE PRICES ARE GREAT AS WELL... THEY WERE VERY INFORMATIVE WITH THEIR DISHES.... 5 STARS ISNT ENOUGH CREDIT FOR THIS AMAZING PLACE... DEFINITELY WILL BE SHARING THE NAME & LOOKING FORWARD TO BRING MANY TO COME EXPERIENCE THESE AMAZING DISHES ... S/N I AM NOT A VEGAN AND AM TRULY EXCITED TO MAKE THE TRANSACTION OVER!!!!!!
Limited menu. Fair- high prices. Good parking. Convenient/ central location. High traffic area. You have to ask for EVERYTHING... napkins, silverware, etc. No plastic knives; no straws... you have to put your mouth directly on cups and spread toast with spoon and eat with hands. Adequate seating for number of customers.
Easily one of the top two worst vegan restaurants in Jacksonville. Everything tastes like cardboard. The coffee is always bitter and tastes like an old pot even though I watch them make it fresh. Nice atmosphere a d Im glad that there are vegan options around Jax, but this one aint it. Vegan food can be so much more than this.
Very healthy vegan food. Im not vegan, but its a nice option if you have friends that are. Its tasty and I like the breakfast biscuit with their pretend bacon! lol!
Great food and so many vegan options!
Wow! Vegan wins here as well as kindness and good vibes. Very creative dishes - too many to choose from so we just asked the staff to recommend a few and they were so delicious! Stop in here if youre looking for a good vibe with incredible vegan options.
Friendly and fast service! The food is always wonderful, definitely try their vegan pastries! So happy to have a good plant-based restaurant in Jax.
Yes! Definitely satisfies that need I have for lunch in the morning time. I love the cashew cream cheese bagel - AMAZING!
Stopped by for lunch. Best decision! My brother and I both had the proud Mary sandwich and gnarbucha to drink(fermented flavored tea). Both were fabulous. The sandwich was large, on toasted nutty bread. Avocados, sesame seeds, greens and local cheese was filling and delicious.
Really enjoyed this awesome little vegan spot in Jax! The breakfast was super yummy and healthy! I had the tofu egg biscuit and it was super good! It’s so nice to have a whole menu to choose from! Love it :) prices are super reasonable and the cafe is super cute with lots if seating. They even let me use my own to-go container which always makes me happy! (So i would say thats my only critique which has to do with covid - everything comes in a togo container - but still i think if u are eating there it would be so much better if you could use a plate if you are dining in)
I got a latte with oat milk, it was really good! However my wife didn’t care for her coffee. She ended up pouring it out. The man working the register was very friendly. I told him how my wife wanted her coffee but then they ended up making something completely different. Again, she ended up pouring it out. Money wasted.Update: In response to owner: My wife brought her coffee back in and asked for clarification on what the drink was, because it wasnt what I had ordered her. But the barista behind the bar made her feel like an inconvenience by asking. They werent up front rude but they definitely seemed inconvenienced. It wouldve been a completely different experience if they had been more friendly with the situation. It was a bummer because it was my wifes idea to stop and support a local business.
This was the only vegan place we could find and I wasnt sure how good it would be. So was really happy to find the food was excellent quality, lots of gluten free options. Staff were helpful and friendly. Kids and husband were all happy.. gluten free vegan bakery goods were delicious too. Would definitely come back!
The food was delicious, the coffee was delightful, and the staff were the cherry on top of it all. Very impressed with everything, will definitely make an effort to stop by again if were in the area. Highly recommend everyone gives it a try!
The food and service is great. Hand down my favorite vegan place in Jax. I usually order the Tofu Egg Salad Sandwich or the Blisscuit. Other good options are Bagel #1 and The Santi. All great. One sandwich I would not necessarily recommend is the The Proud Mary. Ive ordered it once and a friend of mine ordered it recently. Both times it was very oily. Even with that I still recommend this place to all of my friends. Whenever we have group lunches I always ask to or suggest going there. Keep up the good work.PS: Consider adding tomatoes to your menu items. I think itll add even move flavor.Update: Publix sells these Campari tomatoes that are incredibly flavorful and actually taste like they should.
Lovely gem on King street with all the great food that isnt super heavy but is nutrient dense.
Ive been there a couple of times its ideal for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Everything I ate was good so far and they have several non-soy options. My only gripe the menu changes or is seasonal so some of your favorites will or wont be there.
We were looking for a local, independent, veg-friendly eatery while on a road trip and discovered this gem via google maps. So glad we read the reviews and checked out the menu ahead of time! When you enter the cafe the first thing you see are shelves of local items for sale, reading materials, a drink cooler, and a chest freezer advertising frozen treats. It’s fairly clear where to place your order but there are multiple menus, and it was all a bit cluttered and overwhelming. The menu offers an assortment of sandwiches, salads, bowls, bagels, toast, and coffee. Some of the flavor combinations were interesting (peanut butter, tofu egg salad, avocado, sprouts, and sriracha? I wasn’t “brave” enough to try that one). What I did get was the Bagel #1 with tofu egg salad, shakti cashew cream cheez, alfalfa & clover sprouts, and live kraut. It was delicious! my husband got the Thai Peanut Bowl (tofu egg salad, sprouts, avocado, sriracha, and peanut sauce). Personally I’m not a fan of peanut sauce but the combo was tasty. With a name like Southern Roots I would’ve guessed the food would be down-home southern but it wasn’t. Nonetheless, everything was fresh and delicious and we’re glad we checked it out! Will definitely be back if we are ever in that neck of the woods again.
I love Southern Roots! Their food is fantastic, they have kind & happy employees AND their catering is easy to order and delicious to eat! The loaded avocado toast is my favorite thing on the menu and I’ve used their catering twice to bring cookies to my daughters class. Vegan baking is HARD but they make it look easy!
The food is not good. That being said it’s also over priced which I had no problem with thinking I would get a nice light clean and quality meal. Instead I overpaid for an upset stomach. Their vegan egg salad is unfortunately a failed attempt. And the food is served with way too much dressings and it leaves you feeling more unhealthy than eating an egg cheese and bacon breakfast sandwich.
The food is also phenomenal and the staff is friendly.
Yummy to the fullest and I extent! GF never tasted so good. I’m allergic to everything you can think of. I break out on my face and get super itchy from dairy, refined sugar and gluten as soon as I consume it. I had three pastries over an hour ago and I’m feeling great! I highly recommend this place to anyone who has allergies or anyone who just plain and simple loves delicious pastries and good coffee/tea. The blueberry lemon cake is out of this world delicious 😋
Amazing service, great bagels, and the best brownie Ive eaten since going vegan!
I was really disappointed to see they advertise being vegan & plant-based, meanwhile they serve dairy cheese. I don’t really care how they get their dairy cheese.. veganism is a movement not a marketing scheme. Either be fully vegan or don’t advertise being vegan. Other than that, their food was really good. I enjoyed the Bagel & Avocado toast a lot. The biscuit was okay.
Excellent coffee - best I had in the area. Everyone was also masked (so felt very safe) and they were sweet to my daughter. Highly recommend!
Not impressed with this vegan restaurant. Salad was boring, it was the turtle salad. It needs some more flavor and perhaps sliced apples or other fruit or veggies and perhaps some vegan cheese. Kimchee biscuit was not good at all.
Loved the vegan options ! Really good food. Was able to sit outside with my dog, too. I got the Vegan Lox Sandwich, and I am very impressed with the creativity of how they made it. My boyfriend got the tofu egg salad sandwich, which was also delicious.
Absolutely delicious local vegan food with really friendly and helpful staff.
Best vegan joint in riverside with a wide selection of gluten free foods. The customer service is great and the coffee is bomb! I come here almost everyday, highly recommend to any vegans or people who need gluten free.
Gluten free and vegan.... loving it....
What a gem! amazing drinks and food... we could not believe all of the vegan and gluten free options... beautiful, light-filled space. I had the dandelion latte and cheese /garlic biscuit (vgf). The others in my group tried a bunch of menu options and they were great. Thank you.
Vegan food, great coffee.I love their lox bagel! It’s made of marinated carrots and has vegan cream cheese 🤤
I got avocado toast and it was honestly the best thing Id had in a while. I dont know exactly what was on it, but something crunchy and nutty, dress greens that again I cant name and pickled onions that were not just beautifully vibrant against the greens and reds on the toast but also a delicious complement to meal.
Food was delicious and the staff was extra nice. They provided recommendations cause it was my first visit, great choice. I will definitely recommend visiting and I will be returning.
Very tasty vegan items and great service!
Went in for a to-go breakfast and the only other person in the restaurant turned out to be a close friend. We were distanced from each other and anybody else so we BOTH lowered our masks to be able to communicate better (I have a severely deviated septum and only get airflow through one nostril). A staff member walks out front from the back and asks if I have a mask? (Meanwhile, my mask is on my chin and clearly visible) and then the person tells me masks are required and I need to have one on or leave. I left, walking right by my friend with her mask around her chin (still properly distanced, as the mandate requires) as my friend looked very puzzled. I saw staff touching their faces and masks, adjusting masks and drinking from an open cup while prepping food. Your staff wants to dictate health precautions to others but seems CLUELESS about viral transmission between humans. You can spout Its not political, its polite all you want but as an outsider with no political affiliations, thats not what I see. Its certainly not policy based upon any sort of sound scientific or biological understand. What I experienced wasnt politeness. I wont be back. **Edit** Every person over the age of six (6) who is in a public space shall wear a face mask or covering WHEN NOT ABLE TO ENGAGE IN SOCIAL DISTANCING. ...so no, your employees werent just enforcing the city rules.
Awesome vegan place!! Everything is vegan. Definitely grab a donut while your there
Food is Delicious!! Owner was very nice & friendly!!Very clean environment.. I will return very soon.
Omg great food and best service on my first visit. We definitely going back again...
This place has the best atmosphere, relaxed, artsy, and inviting to all. The food quality is so good. We got breakfast biscuits and donuts and everything was great. Their donuts are more dense and cakey. Definitely will come back to try more flavors.
Wonderful hip spot for breakfast. Going to have to hit it up again since they were out of lavender syrup which they make in house. We had the avocado toast which was what youd expect but as a baker I gotta hype up the bread such a great multigrain if it was gluten free I couldnt tell. Also grabbed some chocolate lavender donuts they had which were an amazing cake style donut with crazy good chocolate glaze and a nice floral hint.
Ive eaten here several times and the food is always consistently great. My favorite thing about this place is when you first walk in the door, the aroma, its so amazing. The smell of the herbs and other flavors they use hits you like no other restaurant. AND IM NOT EVEN VEGAN.
Fast service.
Wow.... great service, great food. Caitlyn took care of me, answered my questions... over the top service! Nice to walk in and be able to order some thing vegan and gluten-free with no debate or argument about ingredients ....nice place to eat for this out of Towner!!!!!!
I love that I can always count on Southern Roots to have such good food for such a good price. I just transitioned to vegan a month ago and Southern Roots has been my go to when I need something filling. I love that they have bread and spreads that I can buy and the weekly menu. Plus their cold brew is 10/10!!
This is a vegan and gluten free paradise - their GF donuts are out of this world! super friendly and informative staff/service, great coffee and a local business! we just moved to the beach and we are so glad that their beach location (on seminole) is only 2 blocks away!
Southern Roots has great food and friendly service. Their vegan menu is full of flavor and the portions are pretty big. If youre not full vegan, they have a couple dairy options (like cheese that is locally sourced). Theres a small refrigerator with some pre-packaged items for sale as well (like theyre bomb pumpkin pesto). Definitely worth checking out, even if you arent vegan.
Good Vegan Fare
Always a pleasure eating here! Its nice to have a fantastic place to get a great vegan breakfast and actually feel full! And the kids love it too!
Great atmosphere and fantastic food! Coffee was great too!
I get a Blisscuit at least once a week because they are savory & decadent. Whoever bakes the biscuits so that they are lightly crisp is a national treasure. Shout out to Amber who has platinum level customer service!
Southern Roots is consistently delicious! My favorites are the Bagel #1 and the Blisscuit!
Really good vegan spot to eat. Food was great!
I have the tofu chikkun sammy. Its was so delicious and the house picked on the side. Made my day. I wish the chips was in house but what the hey.
I came in to get some coffees and pastries at 10:30 am before going to a vet visit. It was a little busy, which is understandable for the late morning. Was helped by Cadence, ordered 2 lattes and 2 cookies to go, and after getting in the car and heading to the vets office I checked and noticed I received only one cookie. I wasnt mad at all, called them back and said I would be heading back over to pick the other one up afterwards, got back over around 1 PM. I picked up the other cookie, said thank you, and left. Come to find out these great people have me the hookup! An extra couple of pastries! One of the many reasons this local place is so awesome! Thank you guys so much!
Dont fret if its busy, it is worth the wait. prices were decent.
I eat here every now and then. The food is always usually pretty good, but for the price portions sizes are lacking. The coffee is great, but there bakery case does need some work though. The oat bars are good but many of the other items I’ve tried from there are pretty unfortunate. The donuts are to hard to eat and today I had a cupcake that was to hard and the wrapper stuck to it. Recommendation is to visit Sweet Theory next door instead. If they made the Meal portions a little bigger/ more worth the price I would visit more often.Overall not the best ever but usually pretty decent.
