I love this little store! It’s awesome to see such detail, inventory, and customer service from a small business. They didn’t have my daughter’s size in for tap shoes, but they already had those sizes on order and it came in two days later. They try to make sure they always have what you need, and they are always willing to find and order it. They do an amazing job fitting dance shoes and really take their time to make sure the dancer is fitted correctly. Costume selections for both dance and Halloween/themes are also great!

Go here instead of the chain box store stores! Better selection. Awesome customer service! Support this local business thats been here for 30+ years!

After a disappointing costume purchase from Amazon, I dropped by Make Believe Costumes & Dancewear to find a costume last minute and was pleasantly surprised by the dedication of help that I received. I will DEFINITELY be a returning customer!!! The owner btw is the sweetest woman!!!

This was my first time in Make Believe and the service was exceptional! They made sure my baby got all of her dance gear and made sure it fit properly before we left the store! I will definitely use them again!

Debbie gives her customers a very hard time about returns or exchanges. (Store policy: No returns allowed. 10 days to make an exchange.) I was within the 10 days to make an even exchange for my daughter to get a 1/2 size bigger shoe in the same model, and Debbie gave me an earful about it. No customer appreciation or courtesy at this store. I would not recommend to shop here.

They have a good selection of costumes, we went for six supplies but they only carry a few make up pallets no actual supplies or air brush type make ups. They have a good selection of clearance costumes as well. They have a large selection of childrens ballet outfits and accessories. Staff was pleasant and helpful will return closer to Halloween.

The staff is always helpful and friendly. They also have superior costume make up and they know just the tools and products to combine with your selections. I was able to pull off a gorgeous sugar skull thanks to their recommended face paints.

I just went on a whim to try and find a fake mustache that looked more realistic than what I was finding online. I got a great mustache that was cheaper AND better quality. And the spirit gum was 5 times less than what I was seeing online. The girl who helped me had tips and tricks for making the mustache look even more realistic. Try searching here for your costumes and accessories before anywhere else! You might be pleasantly surprised

Worst customer service, they act so nice and thankful when you buy something from them but when you try to return they act like they dont know what to do and won’t even give you store credit so i threw the shoes on the floor on my way out maybe they can make some money from it now.

Wed come here for costume/makeup supplies, but when my daughter started dancing, this is where we came for shoes.When we started out, what I didnt know about dance would fill books. The kind ladies in the shoe department were able to guide us into what she needed.Every time we have purchased shoes, they have taken the time needed to get a good fit. We never felt rushed, or pressured to buy anything that wasnt just right. Occasionally, weve come in when selection was low (say, the last day of the annual, month-long shoe sale), but theyve always been able to provide something that fit.Every time I go in, I check the tights, even if were well stocked. They usually have some pretty deep discounts on discontinued colors/styles. (I once went home with 4 pair of tights for $10. Thats pretty hard to beat!)Love this place.Recently went somewhere else for leotards because it was required by the school. Thatst the LAST time Ill shop anywhere else.Make Believe is definitely where we will go from now on!

Beware this store has a no refund policy evern for unused (non costume) items the next day with a tag.

I had a Roaring 20s Party to attend and called Make Believe to see what they could do to help. Catherine was super friendly over the phone and described what options they had in the store - everything from accessories to full theatrical costume gear. She convinced me to just come by the store and see what they can put together for me. Easy location to get to - right off of Beach Blvd on Parental Home Rd. Catherine personally helped me out and picked out some great accessories to go along with the costume. She even told me how to properly wear the fedora hat. Quick, easy check out. They even gave me some coupons and flyers for upcoming Halloween promotions. 5-star service!

Im so happy I came here !! 2 days before Halloween I was set to find my Morticia Addams costume and thought the worst when I couldnt find it !! UNTIL I came to Make Believe. The employees really went above and beyond with helping me find the costume or something even similar. I left with a beautiful black dress that was wayyy better than the original costume intended and the price was even better. I will definitely continue to go there now for every Halloween season to come. I also recommend everyone to at least stop by and check what they have, you never know what you might need !!!

I needed a Dirndl for our multicultural day at work. Called around and they were one of the only places with the costume in stock. Costume was sturdy and didnt look totally costumey. I received lots of compliments.

We were looking for costumes for the mid 1800s for a church play. Catherine was an amazing help, she put together an awesome outfit and I have received many compliments on the suit. The store is incredible and if you need a costume, this is the place to go!

These people saved my daughters feet! Okay so note to self, there is value in getting a good pair of character shoes! Just because you have a pair of rockabilly shoes (from a chain shoe store) somewhere in the back of your closet, and they LOOK like what the play producer said you need, (because they have a strap that buckles) that does NOT make them true character shoes. Those are just shoes that have character!Retro off the rack is whack!Go to the place that specializes in outfitting performers. *If you need big, wide sizes, this is your place. The staff was quick, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I have been schooled! LOL

I came to this store looking for a costume about 5 minutes before they closed. The ladies on staff were not only extremely helpful and kind, but they were patient. Shawn and Catherine were true examples of fine customer service. The tone was set by Isabella who answered my call before I arrived. She was very pleasant. I appreciated these ladies and their assistance.

They have a $15 fitting fee for any shoes even if you dont buy them.

The service was terrible. I was in the store for over 10 minutes and no could seem to be bothered to help or even acknowledge I was there. They had about three other customers in the store and they were falling all over themselves to help them. They didnt speak until they absolutely had to and that was only when I came to the register to pay for my purchase (too short a notice to find another shoppe). The convo was short and clipped. I wont be back.

Came in here with my daughter and her friend to return shoes that were bought same day. I paid $37 when her friend paid $28. So I wanted to return my daughters shoes and get the ones her friend got for $27 and they said I could but they wouldnt give me the $9 difference. They said even exchange. The lady said no matter what you wont ever get cash back in this store. So both girls, both got same size shoes but mine were $9 more?! I did shop here and always came back but after this not again. In what store to do go to buy same product, same day, have every receipt and pay 2 different prices?! So mad Im actually sitting in the store writing the review cuz I couldnt wait to do it.

Good selection. Employees who are not seasonal normally know where everything is and what they have. I enjoy their clearance section that typically has old theatre costumes in it.

I go there for my daughters dance wear and costumes. Its an ok place. Has decent selection but I have found alternatives online for cheaper. Works fine in a pinch when she needs something and we cant wait to have it shipped.

The store was very busy when I when I went in, but even as busy as they were one of the sales associate (dressed in a wonderful bumblebee costume) spending a good thirty minutes with me helping me find exactly what I needed. I will definitely recommend Make Believe Costume and Dance to anyone I know who live in Jacksonville and are looking for special effects makeup, Halloween gear, or dance wear. I wanted to buy some ballet pointe shoes as a novelty gift and didnt know what size to get. The ladies in the dance dept were very patient and helpful. Even though they are only a gift, they gave me their full attention and offered tips on how to fit them properly. I left with 2 pair!!!! Thank you ladies!!!

I could state what I witnessed in the store where the owner very rudely kicked someone out of the store, while another representative was very very rude while assisting us. well never go back. Ive noticed the owner likes to retaliate on negative posts also... so keep your eyes open for that. 👌

I came here back in July for a pair of character shoes and the staff was so helpful to get me fitted for a shoe that would work for me! They have held up wonderfully through multiple rehearsals and multiple shows so far, and I will definitely be coming back here when it comes time for new dance shoes!

They have a large variety of costumes and makeup and accessories but quite a few of the items are overpriced. If you shop around you can definitely get better deals elsewhere for some of the things. I do like the fact that they have a clearance section in the back but some of those costumes are missing accessories or slightly damaged.

Called and asked if they had theatrical quality Halloween costumes and was assured they did. Made the 50 minute trip up from St Augustine and was told we dont carry licensed costumes.....not sure what that has anything to do with me needing a high quality costume for my event. The conversation turned to rentals....great I thought, here come the real costumes. The lady picked out 2 and both were no better quality than pajamas. I refuse to spend 150 dollars (plus another 150 deposit) to look like an adult in super hero pajamas. Disappointed
