Good shop with varieties of rock and crystals. The young lady took time to explain and and answered all my questions.
I generally enjoy coming here, but my past couple experiences have been unprofessional and uncomfortable. My boyfriend got me a surprise gift, a rock tumbler, for my birthday. At first I was very excited, until I unpacked the tumbler that night. I realized my boyfriends’ 235$ gift was dirty, coated in dust, and the plug was rusted. I did not feel safe plugging it in. Even the areas where the tumbler rotated were rusted. We were very disappointed in its condition for the price he had paid. So I returned it the next day, after we had found a nearly identical model online for 110$. The return went incredibly smoothly, and the person attending me was very professional and courteous. However, the next day, I saw the owner of the Shop had texted me, which I felt was inappropriate as I had never given them my number and I had only spoken to them briefly twice. I did not like that the owner confessed that they had sold me a thirty year old machine (!) that had been quote, “sitting in a warehouse,” and offered to “upgrade” me for 35 more dollars for a new machine in the box. A new machine I should have received in the first place for 235 freaking dollars. Not only that, but I was already being charged double what a new machine would cost, and now another almost 40$ on top of that for something that is a given? No thank you. I did not respond, because I was not interested in engaging with the owner. That same day I returned to the shop on unrelated business, to return a piece of gem from an entirely separate transaction I was unsatisfied with. Another very professional and courteous worker assisted me for that. She had to text the owner to see what method she could use for the refund, as I wanted my refund sent to my card. However the owner told her employee she would give a response once I had responded to her inappropriate morning message. I thought this was also inappropriate and unprofessional. I sent her a response anyway, because I didn’t care enough to start an argument over a simple return. Once I responded, the owner told the employee to give me store credit.I do not appreciate that the owner pulled my personal contact number from the system when they heard I had returned the ancient and overpriced tumbler, And offering to give me what I had more than paid for for more money, and then forcing me to answer a message that should have never been sent just so I could get a refund on a completely unrelated transaction. And yes, the tumbler and gem were completely separate transactions paid for separately by two different people.I love this shop. I love the employees, who are knowledgeable and professional and know what they’re doing. But I do not love my recent transactions and experiences with the shop. I will definitely take this into consideration next time I’m in the market for gems, minerals and accessories.Edit: Viewing the owner’s response to my review has been disappointing. They don’t seem to understand the root of the issue, and also accused me of being a Negative Nancy. Most of my reviews are positive, and generally I only give bad reviews when things are low quality or there are have been terrible experiences, or misleading information. I definitely will not be returning at all to this shop, and will be warning all my rock and gem loving friends away from here. There are better places to go, trust me. Happy Rock Hounding!P.S. Go to my profile to see the gem shops I’ve had lovely experiences in.Another edit: thank you to whomever wrote the new response to my review, it was very professional and exactly what I needed to hear to feel open to coming to this shop again, I appreciate the response!
Great products. Very friendly, easy going staff, willing to spend time answering questions for beginners. Wonderful experience.
Beautiful rocks, minerals, and fossils.. definitely worth checking out!
I was visiting family for Thanksgiving (I’m from NJ) and wanted to find a Texas rock shop. This one caught my eye so we make a 1 hour drive to come check it out. They have a very good variety and prices for all budgets. Not to mention they had a 50% off sale going on. We bought a bunch of stuff and couldn’t be happier. Just that alone made it a great experience. But here’s the best part. While we were there my mom saw a piece she like but for some reason didn’t buy it. After we got home I gave them a call and described the piece. They found it and shipped it that same day. Merry Christmas mom!! This place ROCKS
The workers at Katy Rock shop are so sweet and helpful. Im allergic to Nickle and Lana called to double check the materials in the necklaces. Every time I go, the ladies there are always so sweet.
Awesome displays. Wish I could buy all of them.
This place is amazing. The assortment of rocks are great, the actual rocks are beautiful, and I cant wait to go again
This is a great place I had such a great experience. Thank you Katy Rock Shop
Amazing rock shop! A cute little shop in old town Katy is a true hidden gem - pun intended. I walked in hoping to find some gifts for my family (a lot of geologists) and the owner was incredibly helpful and kind. They took the time to really sit down with me and asked what I was looking for and helped me find some really amazing specimens that were in my price range. I love how they had such a great variety and had a great range from inexpensive to the more valuable. When I went to write a review, because I know with Covid many small businesses are struggling, I was deeply saddened to see a few nasty reviews from a few angry users. I wish more people would take the time to write great reviews, but it seems when something doesn’t go their way that is the only reason people write reviews these days. I’ve seen it on so many small businesses lately and it’s terrible.I’m here to tell you, I had an amazing positive experience with incredible help. 5 stars and will definitely be back.
Recently went to this shop while visiting family in the area. I was disappointed with the selection of rocks, gems and minerals and was VERY shocked at the prices. I have been to many rock shops around the US (from small ma and pa shops to huge stores) and I have to say their prices are HEAVILY inflated. I was told the owner was a geologist, which I didnt care about, as to impress me in some way that her store was better than anyone elses in the area and that was why the prices were so high. I dont care who you are, dont overprice items! I bet if they lowered their prices by 50-75% to where the prices SHOULD be-they would have WAYYY more sales. If youre looking to purchase rocks I recommend you go elsewhere.
Nice selection! I like how organized they have this place.
Best rock store. Great customer service and so friendly and helpful. Great selection which is always expanding and the quality of each piece is fantastic. Love this place and go here frequently!
Fun and easy to navigate. The shop owners have made it extremely easy to find things as well as have a verity of items. The staff are knowledgeable and very friendly.
Couldn’t say enough nice things, a must go to for rock lovers. thanks tana ! 💖 such a comfortable environment and extremely knowledgeable and kind (-:
My son unknowingly revived that rock hound spirit I lost from working so much. Brought me here and boom I’m searching again
Well kept shop. Staff is amazing and some are extremely knowledgeable in geology.
Cute little rock shop, with surprisingly good selection! Employees were friendly and helpful! I found them to be overpriced, compared to other rock shops Ive been to, but still a must visit.
Great customer service. Very friendly personal and professional knowledge of products.
The shop owner is very pushy, demanding, intrusive, and rude when you are not ready to hand over your money without questions. Read any of the one star reviews here— or better yet, her replies, to get a sense of the contempt she has for her customers when they aren’t ready to spend $100s of dollars on rocks. On one one-star review, a customer is complaining about her personal information being used without her knowledge or permission to contact her after a purchase. Then the shop owner demanded the customer reply to her unsolicited communication when she came in for a different UNRELATED *other problem* with a purchase at this store. In the owner’s reply to that critique of her business and business approach, the owner led her reply with the customer’s first and last name. Instead of drawing any attention to the name of the person making a complaint, or reducing the complaints of a review to the complaints of one person named such-and-such, why not focus on your business and the complaints? The rest of the reply is mostly blame-shifting as well. Regardless, just another glimpse into how badly managed the business is. In a response to someone who was upset by the reckless handling of her personal information, why not throw out as much identifying information as possible. It is already displayed as a reply to her account’s review— people know who you are addressing (maybe focus more of your response on the problems with your business). Anyways, besides another example of how out-of-touch the shop owner is with customers, and how little respect she mustered for the writer of that review, from the review you can read that the customer was also personally attacked for having a problem at the business (called a “Negative Nancy” for requesting further assistance at a business, and she was then offered only store credit— a cheap tactic for a greedy small business owner to keep your money). Read the rest of the owner’s reply, where they contend that the 30 year old machine that was sold and returned is totally worth it. Keep in mind to she invaded a customers privacy via an unsolicited text in the morning to continue the sales pitch, push an up charge, and defend a business model of “servicing” 30 year old “refurbished” machines for rock hobbyists and enthusiasts. And obviously the cold call didn’t work because that customer found the same machine elsewhere for 50% off.Is anyone surprised that this rock shop is taking advantage of hobbyists? Their markup is 100% higher than their competitors. I recommend going to any of Houston’s other rock and gem stores.
Love buying minerals and rocks here. They have gorgeous book ends!
Ill admit, its a cool shop, lots of wonderful specimens. That being said, I would rate it 5 stars if it were titled as a Katy Rock Museum because the prices are extremely high. If you want to take a gander at some cool rocks and minerals, I highly recommend this place. If you are looking to buy rocks and minerals, Id find somewhere else to shop.
Great selection of rocks and very knowledgeable employees. Good prices too!
Amazing specimens!! I would totally work there. I’m a huge Paleontology geek. They have some amazing fossils. The detail of the specimens r amazing and clear to see.
Big range of rocks (and prices) for a small store. Good for kids and adults.
Love this place!! So many cool rocks & minerals. My favorite part is the porch with so many reasonably priced, beautiful items! And even just walking around inside is so cool, almost like a museum because of all of the unique specimens!
As a geologist by trade I cant say enough about how much I love this place! The ladies up front are always very kind. I even love how you can bring in rocks and they will donate them to kids to get them excited about geology! The selection is amazing and they always have something new that I havent seen before. I even love their consignment gifts like the railroad tie sculpture I just bought for a railroad loving family member as a Christmas present. If you like a great selection and super friendly people you have to come see them!
Huge assortment of rocks, owner is very sweet
A little pricey. Not enough jewelryMostly pieces for the home and quite expensive. Not a whole lot of vibe. Interesting store with information but just different experience
I finally had a chance to visit Katy Rock Shop after looking at the store online forever… I instinctively felt the energy from all the wonderful crystals and minerals before walking through the door! The staff was extremely friendly. They had exactly what I was looking for and more!
Gorgeous store, great people! If you have the money then you have a selection to die for to buy; if you are not as fortunate to have the funds, then the experience of seeing exotic and beautiful specimens from all corners of the globe. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and love to talk with you about their pieces. If you are a rock hound like I am, its like a Mecca of experience, eye candy and wishful thinking.
Quaint little rock shop on Pin Oak. Prices are a bit high, but it is a brick and mortar store. Well worth it, overall. The young lady that owns the place is very knowledgeable about the rocks and minerals there.
New owners.....was helping out a friend by taking a big piece of quartz there, to put it on consignment. The new owner a pic and took down my information. No callback at all....not even a courtesy call. I understand that they are new but its bad business to just ignore potential clientele.
This place is great! Kids had a blast and, admittedly so did I. Will be back soon!
So many rocks.
Found this place because I was looking for a gift for my mom and I am so thankful cause she is hard to shop for, but now I have somewhere to go! This store has a large selection of stones and fossils, from polished for jewelry and show, to unfinished ruff stones so that you can make them into what you like. The ladies working at the time were so friendly, they told about the set up and just let me shop. I will definitely be back!
Beauty everywhere! So many gorgeous rocks, crystals and fossils. Petrified wood, fossilized dinosaur poop, a section of items from Texas...this store did not disappoint. I bought quartz crystal and and an amethyst point. I could have spent way more time and money in there. Prices are about the same as Body Mind & Soul.
Drove 23 miles with my family as my kids are very excited about rocks and crystals and we’ve been visiting several shops around Houston.I didn’t like the energy of the place, mainly because as tactful as the comment may have been there was an inquiry implying that my 6 year old may have stolen items. Also, we all felt overly watched and monitored. I really hope they have cameras so they can go back and see that we didn’t steal anything. The ladies did try to be as nice as possible regardless of their judgement and have knowledge of their trade. As for the shop, they have a decent collection, but it is mostly overpriced.
My 11 year old enjoys visiting this quaint little shop in Katy. Staff is always welcoming and friendly. Lots of beautiful and unique rocks and minerals to admire. They have a small section for the kiddos to explore and we enjoy finding new rocks to add to our small collection.
Newly discovered and I love this place. If you are into gems or rocks, please visit this store. Prices are good and they always offer specials.
Decent selection and fairly knowledgeable of most of their inventory, even if most prices are pretty high.
This is a great little rock shop with good variety. Excellent customer service and a friendly atmosphere. The carry tumbler supplies as well as polished and ornamental stones. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes rocks. Be sure and check out the UV room.
Great selection of rare minerals. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. They had a huge selection of minerals that you will not find anywhere else in Houston. There needs to be more stores like this. The energy is very soothing in the shop, it is a nice place to relax and enjoy natural beaty.
Very nice people with great bargains as well as very beautiful collection pieces!! I definitely recommend them.
Rock shops often struggle. This place is great. Unfortunately the location is killing it. If you are a rock hound, or just like purdy stones... Visit this place. Its one of the best ones Ive seen. Very organized.
The people that run this business are very nice & friendly. Big selection of specimen type rock, minerals & fossils. A great place if you collect rocks & minerals. They have a few pendants containing semi-precious stones & bracelets with the same.
Highly knowledgeable. Great selection n great prices! Picked up a beautiful chunk of Amythest with big dark crystals and a super cool Thunder Egg. Will def be going back :-)
I went to this shop for the first time today and I was greeted as soon as walked through the door and was helped finding all the crystals I was looking for. They have a great selection and great quality product. The price suits the quality of their product. I also asked if their citrine was baked amethyst and they openly admitted it was. I’ve been to a few other shops that tried to rip me off selling me “citrine” that was baked amethyst but the denied that it was. I trust this shop more then any of the others I’ve been to.
This is one of the few rock shops that I try to frequent regularly. We live a little over an hour away, but they always make the trip worth while for us. We simply love browsing through all of the mineral specimens and decorative pieces they offer.I was surprised when we discussed having my gemstone trees in their shop, because it was a bit of a dream come true. And those who appreciate rocks tend to also appreciate when people create art from them!We have bartered and traded rocks mined here in Texas by my friends, had my daughter earn her very own giant chunk of Rose Quartz, and visited multiple times. I highly recommend a visit and a chat, theyre very nice folks! And of course, the shiny, sparkly, intriguing stones are a huge attractant to a rockhound like me!
This place ROCKS! They have good prices and items to get the young geologist fully engaged. My niece had a blast opening the large geodes wed purchased. They have nice fossils too.
Love this place. They are always so helpful.
Whenever I visit Old Katy I cant help but go in this beautiful shop. I have gotten a few nice pieces from here.
This is a great rock shop everything it is detailed and priced accordingly
The owner was super nice! They have a huge selection and are reasonably priced! They even have a rewards program which is great. Im definitely going to be going back soon!
Rocks are good and prices are ok. The times are not what they say. It says it opens at 10, but its never open then. Ive gone twice at 10:40 and its closed both times.
Best shop that I have been to. Great atmosphere and great customer service. Highly recommend going here!
Outstanding!!!!!! Friendly knowledgeable staff. Worth the trip
Very cool place. Lots of neat rocks and fossils!
Cute shop! My son got a bear claw necklace he adores.

Amazing selection and extremely knowledgeable staff! They also have a great rewards program!
So many varieties of minerals, workers were friendly and the prices are decent.Im thinking of visiting this place again
This place is great!!
There are many varieties of gemstones and crystals. They are from Brazil, Texas, China and many other parts of the world. The owner is geologist, and she is very friendly.
Great shop, great customer service, great selection. Always something new to find.
Carol and Bruce are the best. Very knowledgeable, great place to take the kids.
A favorite crystal shop, love to stop and buy when in Katy.
Love the variety of rocks and the set up of the store! Not mentioning that the vendors and owners are very sweet.

Gorgeous taste. Good selection and prices.
Prices are a bit high. But nice specimens.
The only rock shop ive found in this area. Its a must see.
Prices are bad and is poor quality rocks. Only like 2 rock shops in the area, so I give it a little slack.
Quality specimens and friendly staff
