We anchored just outside for the night on our way down south, and wanted to top off our tank before continuing and Sam let us fill up our Jerry cans free of charge. He even offered to let us dock up to fill water, but we’d already dropped our anchor. Sam also let us dinghy up at the dock (marina next door) for a few hours to get some dinner in town. Would recommend.
What a great experience. Sam requested I give him a call prior to arriving so he could be there. He has a couple of work sites, I wouldn’t want him hanging around waiting on me anyway. Sam helped launch the boat and show me where my slip was. He went above and beyond what he had to do. Slip was perfect and has water/electric. Great guy and business. Thanks for all your help Sam!! I would recommend his business. The camp ground looks really nice too, very clean and nice people there.
I used them (July 2021) for trailer storage and dropping in and hauling out my 32 center console. I dealt with Sam and he was friendly, very polite, and very accommodating. The ramp was in great shape and super easy to use. They have a hose area for water wash down/flushing also. I came in on super low tide and the channel is easily followed. I would 100% recommend them.
Very good staff, boat was in great condition, very reasonable prices. Enjoyed my time on the water for sure.
Never again. The place my family and I were staying at recommended this boat yard to launch and store our boat trailer for our weekend in the keys. The guy we worked with, Sam, was anything but pleasant. We arrived at the gate and gave him a call. He stated he tells people to give him an hour heads up prior to arrival, however he never told us any such thing. After waiting for about 35 minutes for him to show up, they had to move a giant sailboat crane out of the boat ramp launch. We paid an extra $40 for unlimited boat ramp access...however when we asked if that crane would be parked there again... Sams response was “well then you’ll have to wait”. We were told we would be charged a full day if we picked it up at 6AM the last day so we informed him we would pick it up the day before. He was very rude and let us know if the trailer was there a minute past midnight he would have it towed. However, he then texted us the last day around 4:30 PM and informed us it would be towed if it was a minute past dark. The quality of service and boat yard is very poor for $25 a day along with the $40 boat ramp access. Save your money and your time and take your boat to the Caribbean Club.
Could be cleaner but hey...its a boatyard right!? Keypad access gate is a plus & allows for peace of mind.Guys that work there seem friendly & knowledgeable of the craft. Recommended.
Great location. Secure and easy to access. For a fraction of the price that our resort was going to charge us for a boat slip we decided instead to keep the boat on the trailer and park them at Catamaran. This allowed us to either use the onsite boat ramp or easily hook up and drive the boat to another island. It really made our trip to the keys a much better experience.
Sam is nice over the phone, and the facility seems very secure to store a boat. Only issue is IF you dont know what youre doing, and no one tells you anything ( which is what happened) even a jet boat with a 1 foot draft will bottom out. I lost my sonar eye immediately upon launch, making a not so great fishing trip .
It was a painful experience. I dont know where the positive reviews come from. We havent meet one happy sailboat owner while we were there. The site is a junkyard but could be nice and Sam could be pleasant at times if he wasnt such an autocratic, penny-pinching profiteer. Ask for a copy of his contract BEFORE you make your decision. In his contract it is stipulated that you HAVE to buy everything that youll need to fix your boat through Boat Yard Catamaran ( Sam ). Everything. The paint, the primer, the little brushes, plastic sheet, acetone... etc. This caused us problems besides the fact that his stuff was super expensive ( he charges West Marine prices and sometimes more) and he has to order some products for you. Ex: two small rolls of 1 inch vinyl tape at $37 dollars a piece, 2 paint brushes at $40 dollars each, the cheap little dispensable brushes at the dollar stores were $3 dollars each and on and on. The yard hasnt had the channel dredged for years. Its not wide enough for comfort if you have a wide beam like us (25ft.) We met 6 sailboat owners while we were there and 5 of them touched bottom coming in or out or both. Its also poorly indicated. There are only two visible metal posts that indicate the way. We now know why. Sam can always claim that you didnt follow the channel and that way you are the problem. If the passage was clearly marked then, when touching ground, the yard could be responsible. Sam will tell you nobody touches bottom in the channel. Not true. The GPS coordinates dont work ! Why ? Theres NO channel anymore ! We got stuck at high tide at the entrance of the channel. But what really hurt us was when we docked the boat on the lift dock. We hit a coral shelf right at the dock. Really ! At The Dock !! We couldnt move at all. When the tide got lower our boat listed to one side. We had to work so hard to move her that we broke our 2 keels. One lost a big chunk ten inches long and the other one was cracked in many places. Sam took zero responsibility. There are NO signs whatsoever on his dock that warn of a shallow bottom. Boats drawing more than 4 feet should stay away. Our recommendation, if you absolutely MUST haul out, is to enter at full moon high tide. It says in the contract that you can be charged a fee to stay on your boat. Its a privilege that Sam gives you (to not charge the fee) but he can change his mind anytime. We met a boater who was not allowed to live aboard. The rules at CBY subject to the whims of the owner. Another restriction. You cannot work after 5:00 pm subject to a penalty of $500 dollars. Youre not even supposed to clean your stuff after 5:00 pm. Now that was a real bummer because in the morning the boat was often soaked by the morning dew and we had to dry it to start glassing. It took time. If it rained we were also stoppedand the days were short. This rule didnt apply to his employees who were regularly working until 7:00 pm. Everyday around 5:00 pm we saw Sam in his truck come by our boat to check on us. The lot has bad drainage. Our boat was sitting in a pool of water for days after it rained. It happened twice. We worked in mud but this situation didnt apply to the whole boatyard. Its a shame this could be a good DIY yard. We had friends who wanted to go but followed our story and decided to pass. We personally wont go back there. I read all the reviews and the answers from Catamaran Boat Yard are not honest according to our experience.
Very happy over all. Easy access to paradise. I will recommend to everyone I know. And certainly return. The facility has all you need and security to boot.
Largest boat lift in the keys. Just what was needed to lift boat with a 264 beam.
Great experience. It was conveniently located close to our stay. We launched our boat and stored our trailer there for the week.
Crookamaran Boat Yard! Dishonest, despicable, deceptive, and disturbing to the point of threatening. If one review for a business says crooks that’s nothing - if every other review says criminals and the business responds with insults like “customer doesn’t know how to drive a boat” - they “must be a competitor” - “we can’t teach people how to sail their vessel” - you can add deranged to the list. One Google search will show Sam is an actual criminal. Go anywhere ANYWHERE but here!! Please. It’s the worst on all accounts. Shameful shysters.
I found a catamaran Sam was brokering that seemed to check all the boxes. It wasnt perfect but it was the right price, and my intention was to fix the things that needed fixing in the way I wanted. A win-win.We placed a contract on the boat and my wife and I visited the boat.We arrived and Sam let us have free reign to inspect the vessel without hassle. What he had described to me was exactly what we found. With that said we began to realize this was not the boat for us. It needed someone more experienced with all the systems that may need replaced or repaired. It was with dread I let Sam know we wanted to back out of the contract, as it was stipulated we could do so upon inspection.Sam gave me no hassle. My down payment was returned within 24 hours.I didnt even buy the boat and still would say this beyond 5 star service. Sam is a no hassle honest business man. I would buy a boat from him in a heartbeat should I find he has anymore available that suit our needs.
Came down to the Keys for family vacation. Sam let us use his boat ramp and store our trailer on the property over the week of July 4th. As sometimes happens with boats, we had our lower unit fail and had to be towed in. Sam was so kind and helpful! He made several calls to try and help find a lower unit for us. The only lower unit we could get wouldn’t go into reverse... which meant the marina slot we had next door was a no go... So Sam let us use his dock so that our vacation would not be ruined. The boat yard is impressive and we saw three boats completed while we were on property and the transformation on each was spectacular. Sam is fair and generous I’ll be doing more business with him anytime I’m in the Keys!! Good people are hard to find.
Absolute Crooks - look at all the other 1 star reviews. Its going to happen to you as well.
Awful service, money hungry. My S/ V Lady Longlegs was at your yard. I have pictures and a bill to prove it. The entrance is so poorly marked we went aground in the so called channel. The dock worker did not pull our vessel in far enough and we were grounded. The boat fell against concrete piling with no support and bent one of our life line posts. We left our boat until May of 2017. We paid our bill monthly and when we were ready to relaunch, we were informed that our boat was longer than the stated length and were charged another $1000 dollars just to launch. The bathroom is a joke. The office personnel was friendly but that was the only good thing I can say.
We recently had our 44 ft cat pulled out to do some updating. The staff was very helpful and accommodating before during and even after hours for our entire 3 1/2 weeks we were there . We will be coming back to pull the boat back when needed.((*.even in pouring rain, the crew was able to get us back in water when we requested! Thanks!))
Catamaran Boat Yard was an excellent yard. They were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The pricing was right and I would recommend this yard to any one. When it comes time for me to haul my boat again there will be no question where I take it.Thanks guysDavid S
