Making an appointment was fast and straight to the point. As far as client to business relations are concerned, the owner Bill may seem intimidating at first, but he holds his clients in high regard and made my experience feel personal. He obviously has a lot of pride and passion for what he does and it was very touching to hear about his love for art. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to feel like theyre more than just another customer walking in.

Perfect place. I went in for my first tattoo and I was lets say a little nervous. This guy let me watch my friend get one first, and then just told funny stories while I got mine done to distract me. Killer classic rock playing at a low volume the whole time. It was a great experience and I came out of it with a beautiful piece of artwork that means the world to me.

The guy who was gonna do my ear piercing took 20 mins to actually co them as it was running late. The place wasnt very clean

Would not recommend, I got a belly button piercing here about 2 months ago and it’s crooked to the left side you can tell when you look at it. Now I have to take it out and re-pierce it somewhere else. Your better off going somewhere else and saving yourself some time and money.

I have gotten piercings here multiple times, they were always pretty good. Showed up today for my appointment, he wasnt there. Did not call to tell me or anything. I stood outside for 20 minutes and called about 10 times, nothing.

The piercing was fine but the owner refuses to wear a mask despite state mandates and laughed off the idea of wearing one. be careful especially during COVID. It’s cheap but shady for sure. Would not go again

Was very unprofessional. Aggressive, rude, did not follow Covid-19 guidelines, and was under the influence. Decided against getting the tattoo for those reasons but he still charged.

Super nice guy. Sterilized everything properly and gave very clear aftercare instructions. Told me the procedure wouldn’t hurt, and it didn’t (septum piercing). Was done in less than ten minutes and I am super happy with the outcome. No infection and rarely any pain since getting pierced. I would trust this place to pierce anything I needed and their jewelry selection is nice too!

I went to go and get a piercing at this place today. The owner is very nice and helpful and walked me through every step there was to make me feel more comfortable. He is very fast and safe. 10/10 would recommend. Great piercing I love it!

Billy has been the best mentor for tattoo selection and application, iv known this artist personally from his early days, and hes always been a very informal professional, if that makes sense. I made an appointment days prior and called to confirm a day before but when I showed up their door was locked and it looked vacant. I called twice and no answer both times. Never got a call back.

I went back to this place because I got a tattoo that I loved and the price was reasonable; about 2 years ago. I brought my sister in law, too, who also got a tattoo. The owner tattooed us and on that day he was sick. Shame on us for staying.. and shame on him for tattooing. We drove a distance so we let it slide but I wish I didn’t! This was 2 years ago and my tat is completely blown out! Any of the words on it are illegible. I have tats that are 20 years old that look better than this! I’m soooooo disappointed! On top of that, he made my sister in- law’s tattoo much bigger than she asked. We are not going back to this place and if I was you, I’d scout around for MUCH better places. Go to 1,000 Troubles where Dani Ryan, the runner up on Ink Master works. Anywhere but here.

I have been going to Bill for almost 3 years now. I did some research when I decided to get my first tattoo, and decided he was the best choice. Bill was able to discuss the design I wanted and make some suggestions to help with the longevity of the design. I didnt go to Bill for my second tattoo and that was a mistake. One he recently fixed for me and now it look AMAZING. Bill has done 6 tattoos for me and a piercing. Bill makes the experience fun with chats to take your mind off the needle. I would highly recommend him! He is clean, professional, friendly, and able to answer any questions about the tattoo or piercing process, and about aftercare.

I absolutely loved these guys work!!! I just had my forward helix pierced there 3 times and he did a great job at making sure it was a clean and quick job. He did a great job! Not to mention their staff is fantastic. Definitely recommend!!!

About 3 weeks ago I got a tragus piercing done at Shades of Sunderland. I called the artist minutes before closing without noticing the time and he happily offered to stay open later until I got to the shop. He was extremely friendly and greeted my mom and I with a smile. He was also very professional while making us laugh during the procedure. He was very cautious and explained everything in detail of what he was doing, the recovery, and the maintenance after the piercing. Overall amazing service, my mom will be visiting soon to get the same piercing done as I did.

I have been to see Bill for my last 4 tattoos, his shop is very inviting and clean. Bill is an awesome artist and will go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and extremely happy with your finished tattoo. If youre not going to Shades of Sunderland your going to the wrong tattoo palor.

I have had all of my tattoos worked on or done by Bill. He fixed my first three and did two more for me. You wont find a better place to get tattooed. They have great experience with tattoos and always do exceptional work. But I went to get a piercing changed and they chose a piercing the was not the right size and did not tell me. They also took out my piercing and took too long to put the other one in and let the piercing close so they had to repierce it. When I went back they were so unbelievably rude and harsh for no reason. I have never seen such horrible customer service in my entire life. I would not recommend for piercings!

The owner is an extreme bigot. If you’re a person of color, I suggest you take your business elsewhere.My friend got a nose piercing there and was told she had an “ethnic” nose, and that that’s why it was so hard for him to pierce it correctly...

I went here for my first tattoo (a large koi fish on my ribs) based on the amazing job Bill had done on my brothers tattoos, which included fixing a tattoo hed gotten done elsewhere that had come out badly. I described what I was going for and Bill worked with me on a design I was happy with. I was nervous, and though the process was painful, Bill kept me laughing and was very nice and supportive through the whole process. He even made helpful suggestions about the coloring, while emphasizing that I was the customer and he would be happy to do it any way I liked.My tattoo came out amazing and I get lots of compliments on it. I cant recommend Shades of Sunderland enough! I will definitely be coming back for my next tattoo!

😥 Bill has done a large amount of my tattoos. Most were ok. Most dont match on both sides. One is upside down and backwards. This last one is disgusting. Looks like a 3 year old drew it. We have been friends for about 15 years .He blocked me on Facebook. Im assuming because he doesnt want his name attached to this POS tattoo. Im just trying to save the next person from this horror. He is great at piercings though! See him for that .
