Very thorough and very quick, came in with an issue and got more than the original issue fixed. Excellent customer service. Will be going back if I need anymore work done for my transmission!
We loved this shop when Jerry owned it and were equally pleased with the new owners. They did the work, as promised at about 40% less than our quote from another shop. And they discovered a second problem that needed attention, fixed that and didnt charge extra! GREAT PEOPLE FABULOUS WORK!!
I had a transmission code P0705 and brought it Summit Transmissions; was referred to Mossy Nissan El Cajon for the repair since Summit did the diagnostic with the great intention of saving me some money under my warranty. Unfortunately, it made no difference because I ended up paying Mossy Nissan what I would have paid Summit.....$600-$700 for the diagnostic & repair anyway because the repair was NOT covered by warranty 😔
Thank you so much for your help with my old Chrysler !
Excellence.. on point services!
I highly recommend anyone who needs their car check they are trustworthy and loyal. After so many mechanics over charging me and not finding the solution to my car. Summit transmission staff work their magic and got it fix. Thank you guys I highly appreciate you all.
Friendly and always helpful. Whenever I have a transmission issue I cant handle myself I always bring my cars to summit. They have helped me service a 2014 Ford Fiesta and my 1964 Ford Ranchero. Great quality work you can trust.
Quality work but always make sure you get a written estimate before getting your vehicle repaired!
Summit replaced an engine in my Jeep Wrangler. They kept me informed throughout the process, and now I have another 10+ years for my Jeep!
Great experience. Very personable and genuinely care about what is going on. Jerry is very helpful and honest. I was a Ford trained mechanic and am more than happy to bring my vehicle here. If I have to be out of town I have all the trust in the world that Jerry would make sure my wifes vehicle would be taken care of with no hassle. I finally found my new shop to preform any maintenance I may have. If you are military like my family is you can trust Jerry and the team at Summit. I know its hard for Military families to find a mechanic they can trust. Look no further Summit Transmission is the place to go.
Excellent service! Thanks guys! See you soon!
This is a real nice guy. He worked with me on my 1985 Toyota Pickup twice. If I were to go over the details of it here, anyone can see he stepped out of his comfort zone to get things done. He and Juan are good people. Thanks guys.
Jerry and the gang are honest professionals who always do their best to satisfy customers. They provide information to help you understand and decide what must be done and what can be postponed. They saved me over a $1000 when it came to changing out my catalytic converter. They have my highest recommendation to anyone needing service or advice.
Gave Amazing Customer Service Great Pricing & Done on Time promised Thanks Summit
Fast speedy service, looking forward to doing more business here.
The new ownership is outstanding. To make a long story short, my truck was misbehaving and Philip figured it out and fixed it... which was frustrating to say the least. He and Paula never gave up although I wouldn’t have blamed them if they did. They went way above and beyond to get my truck back where it wanted to be. Very professional. I’m a customer for life!
I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma 4-wheel drive truck. I wanted to have the oil changed to Amsoil in the front and rear differentials. The people at Summit are true professionals. All work was completed in a timely manner and they were very thorough and neat. The front differential had a drain plug that would not come out, and possibly needed to be replaced. This was explained to me, and that they might damage the current plug if they tried to remove it. I said that was fine. First, they made sure that the Toyota dealership had a replacement plug in stock! A chisel was needed to remove the plug. They immediately went to the dealership and picked up the replacement drain plug.Absolutely outstanding mechanics and customer satisfaction / service. This along with reasonable pricing. This was my first time having work done by Summit. I will not hesitate to use them again for repairs and maintenance, and I highly recommend them.
Very Good Honest People! We are from Out of state Had A big problem fixed It for Cheap but The Best thing was the Quality Honest Care.
Very polite and professional. Would reccomend to anyone. The work they did was solid. Replaced the motor mount on my Ford Focus.
Great service from Jerry and his team once again. Four years of great service that I truly trust. Thanks Jerry for you honesty and thorough service. -JimPost from before:Love this place! They are honest, timely and reliable, qualities that are uncommon in the auto service industry. I have bringing my SUV here for two years and have always been explained of what is going on with my car. I really appreciate that since my vehicle knowledge is limited. Jerry, the owner, always calls you himself before proceeding with additional services. He and his wife, Sandy, are so genuine and have always been fair with prices. Good people with good values, and they run their business the same way.Strongly recommend Summit Transmissions to anyone.Jim
Great service both personal and vehicle. Jerry explained everything in detail so we both had a clear understanding of what I was getting. He also took the time to clearly answer some questions I had. I will definitely bring my vehicles here in the future. Its always difficult to find a new trustworthy mechanic when you move. I was blessed to have found Summit Transmissions so quickly. Thank you.
Good job on fixing the leak on my car and pointing out recommended maintenance repair needed.
Thoroughly ran diagnostics on my vehicle. Great friendly customer service. I highly recommend this shop.
Easily the best experience Ive ever had with a mechanic. Jerry is clearly the top of his field and breaks it down so that I can understand. He went above and beyond.
I cant begin to say enough about Summit Transmissions and its owners. The level of care and attention was amazing. The step by step process with complete disclosure was greatly appreciated. Jerry is up front and honest and I felt like I was with family while going through the process of my transmission replacement. The degree to which Summit Transmissions backs up its work is unheard of and further lent to the confidence in the repairs that were done. Sandy, Jerrys wife was amazing and treated us with great generosity and care. We were given a choice of movies to watch and showered with treats. The bottom line is that this is an honest, hardworking couple that has invested their energy, outstanding work ethic and high standards into a business that deserves a five star rating, customer confidence and trust. Thank you Jerry and Sandy!
Some of the nicest mechanics Ive met. Very honest and trustworthy! I went in expecting to have a huge transmission job and ended up only needing a cleaning and flush! They could have told me I needed a whole new transmission but they were honest and gave me the true, less expensive diagnosis. A great experience all in all.
This place is awesome. I recently had all of my engine and transmission mounts fail and these guys took care of it for an EXTREMELY reasonable price. I could have gotten the car back within the same day but chose to pickup in the morning (very fast). The staff is friendly and has the customers best interests in mind. If/when I have another issue with my car (or someone else I know does), I will definitely recommend summit. Jerry (who I believe is the owner) IS THE MAN.
Im from out of town and was having an issue with my car. Turns out it was not my transmission but an other issue they quickly fixed. They were helpful knowing that were were traveling through town as well. They were very helpful and I highly recommend thrm.
There is no other automotive repair service like Summit Transmissions. Jerry and Sandy not only strive to give you the best possible service on your vehicle, they care about you as a customer, as a person, and truly do take good care of your vehicle as well. They are true believers in God, and present their faith through their work, their shop, their family of employees, and their wonderful treatment of you as their client. Their service and their understanding sets them apart and above all other auto repair shops.
Summit Transmissions provided a prompt diagnosis and they were very friendly and courteous. They explained to me the problem and how to fix it. They gave me a very reasonable price. I asked them to put new transmission fluid in as well. The service was very quick. I would recommend them to everyone I know.
Jerry has always been a very honest and helpful. I have been going to Summit for a couple of years now with both of my jeeps. His prices are always fair and he provides you with detailed information on what was fixed. They have never told me to fix something that didnt need it but have always advised of something to keep an eye on for later down the road. They have earned my business and kept it with hard work and integrity.
When you experience a transmission problem please do yourself a favor and stop by Summit Transmission first. After speaking with Jerry and having him go over everything thoroughly really sets the bar for what should be expected by all transmission shops (but hardly was). Lets face it, we work hard for our money and its reassuring when a Business keeps you informed every step of the way so that you can make decisions of how and where your hard earned money is spent.I couldnt have been more pleased. Theres a reason that the service bays are busy at Summit - theyre worth it!
Five star service, without the feeling that you are getting ripped off! Situation: Its Saturday, Im from out of state and I have a limited time to diagnose and fix a check engine light on, in my newer vehicle. Jerry analyzed the situation and fully explained my options. My cost for the computer readout was reasonable. Thanks and we did have a safe trip home back to Colorado, without the annoying check engine light on.
I originally wrote a seven paragraph review on Summit Transmission on a newer laptop, then slipped on some keys and lost it:) Now I am starting over, which says something already about Summit Transmissions.I came into Summit Transmissions as a desperate, single mother with a demanding job in corporate America. I was already prepared to miss work and select only repairs that could no longer wait, which was really not possible as both third and fourth gears were no longer working. I left Summit Transmissions one week later, feeling stunned at how swiftly things worked out and what a blessing they have been to me.My biggest obstacle was paying for the repairs. I was very upfront with Jerry about needing to store my car with his shop until I could get it out. I also had to consider renting a car so I could go to work and drop off my daughter with the sitter. Jerry hooked me up with a car rental. As for payment, over the course of the repairs, we worked out several different scenarios, all of them involving me being able to drive my car off the lot and into the sunset.Oh, did I mention that Jerry dropped me off at the trolley station on that first day so I could go to work? He did not want me missing work for any reason. I was like, Wow. And when I told him to not worry about washing my car because he had run out of time, he did it anyway. I wish I had relatives like Jerry:)This is not a seven paragraph review, but it does not need to be. Experience for yourself what a faith based service can do. Jerry has the highest ethics for business and I trust him for all my automotive questions and repairs. Thanks, Summit Transmissions!
Great service, friendly staff, they stand behind their services
We brought our 2001 Ford F150 pickup to see if they could figure out what was wrong with it. It had been lurching and slipping and having all sorts of issues over the last couple of months. I was one of the first appointments of the day and I was greeted at the counter by the owner, Jerry. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. He had me describe what the symptoms were and asked a number of clarifying questions. (I dont speak mechanic very well.) Then he took the truck for a test drive - with me as a passenger. It was great being able to point out exactly what was wrong with it while it was happening. When we got back to the shop, Jerry said that he had a guess what was causing the problem and that hed know in about an hour if he was correct. I decided to wait in their reception area and, sure enough, about an hour later Jerry called me out to the garage so he could show me what was wrong. He explained that there was a leak in one of the seals. He explained that if replacing the seal was all that was wrong then it would cost about $850. If they opened it up and found that there was additional damaged caused by the leak that the price would, of course, be higher to fix it. I was so impressed with Jerrys customer service that I told him to go ahead and fix her. (Originally I was going to call around to get other estimates.) The next day they called me to let me know that the truck was done and I went in to pick it up.Jerry explained the work that he had done and I paid for the repairs. It came to $855. (They removed the transmissions transfer case to replace the front seal, which was leaking. They performed a test drive, removed the pan, drained the fluid, replaced the filter and pan gasket and filled it with new fluid.)Jerry suggested that I bring the truck back in about a year for a check-up, as the truck is now 12 years old. I told him that wed be coming back to Summit for sure for that service. Jerry was professional, courteous and explained things in a manner that made sense. I would recommend Summit to anyone.
Summit Transmission is reliable and trustworthy! Im so happy with the service and Jerry was super nice and very professional. After a very bad experience with an unreliable experience this past November, Im so grateful to have found honest and great people! Summit was able to do a full engine replacement without a hitch. Highly recommended!!!
Jerry and his team are an example to the entire industry. When they say they only fix what needs to be fixed they mean it. They did a lot of work on my car, they replaced an engine for me, and they did a lot of their diagnosing and things at no charge. They are always available for questions and take the time to explain everything to the customer. These guys are honest and you can trust them with your vehicle.
Could not have had a better experience. Initial estimate provided with a full explanation. Parts ordered and installed properly. Vehicle tested and delivered back to me with a car wash completed. Prompt, professional, clean and friendly atmosphere.
Fantastic service. Jerry takes the time out of his very busy day for every customer to explain/help someone understand whats going on with their vehicle. Good people and good quality work!
Absolutely a great shop run by top professionals. They have completed repairs to my 1988 RV, which needed much TLC. Summit test drove my vehicle before & after working on everything from fuel pump to coolant water pump, flushing brake system to worn out vacuum hoses effecting my transmission shifting. They replaced all belts with new ones and even researched and found heavy duty shocks for my RV. They made repairs with the thought This would be safe & reliable for our personal family to vacation in. Jerry test drove my vehicle each time and once ran out of gas on the Interstate125 with the gas tank reading half full. Another unknown problem which just happened recently. Needless to say a problem was found in the gas tank. Another problem solved. Thanks for other great trouble shooting on my transmission which was racing to high RPM before shifting from first gear to second gear. Summit even gave me a customer loyalty discount price. GOD Bless You Keep doing good work and thanks for caring! Jim Partain
I just dropped my car off yesterday to get it checked out.. They seem extremely Nice and answering my questions very direct!! This is what consumers like to experience!! I found this place on yelp which everyone had something awesome to say about summit transmission...Ill give an update soon!!
Summit saved me over $1300 by being honest and getting to the real problem with my transmission. Another company told me that my fluid smelled burnt and was brown and needed to rebuild my transmission. The fluid didnt smell and was pink. Summit found I needed to replace the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. They replaced the parts, new filter and fluid and it runs great. I would recommend to anyone needing work done on their car for a honest great job to go to Summit.
I have to say, coming here was a delight and Jerry and his wife go the extra mile to explain every detail about your car and what they plan on doing. Besides getting my car serviced here they treat all their customers like kings. Im truly happy to know that customer service standards to the level I saw while here is something still around, especially when its rare/uncommon these days. If you are in need of any transmission work or other automotive needs, please, do yourself a favor and give these guys a call. A+++ work!
If you need Rocks this is the place.
Great price and friendly, consciencious service. Thorough assessment of my cars condition. Finished earlier than promised and charged less than initially quoted. Would recommend to friends and family.
Feeling safe in my vehicle again...THANK YOU Jerry & team!!! The intermittent speedometer drops were corrected by replacing both the Output & Input speed sensors! Now Im not concerned about getting from Point A to Point B and will gladly recommend your services!
I found Summit Transmissions by accident, as it turns out it was a very happy one. Sandy is amazing, she is very caring and made the entire experience painless. Jerry is very knowledgable and took the time to explain what he thought caused the problem and what I should do next. They had never met me before yet took my current situation into consideration. I will recommend Summit Transmissions to anyone who will listen to me and they have a new lifetime customer. Thank you Sandy & Jerry, I wish more people were like you.
Jerry is personable, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Call them first before considering any another shop!
Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. They kept me updated on my car at all times and gave me a good deal considering the damage to my car. Will definitely go back and would recommend.
My career was in heavy machinery repair, so I know something about vehicle trouble and what one should expect when they get their car worked on. My van had transmission problems. Not only did Summit Transmission fix my van, the cost was reasonable, and well explained. Jerry and Sandra were more than gracious and professional. They due business the right way. They now have another member of their customer family.
Diagnostic guru and superior service! My 2006 Jeep Wrangler transmission oil temp sensor failed. Jeep computer thought it was at the North Pole, so all the shift points disrupted, over revving, and hard clunks from 1st to 2nd. Jerry (Mgr) and crew quickly found the faulty sensor, replaced it, and now transmission shifting as if new again. Felt lucky to have been referred to this shop. Save your sanity and transmission, bring your vehicle to Summit!
Friendly and honest. The staff will do their best to diagnose and fix your car without overcharging or replacing parts that you do not need.
Great service by a friendly and talented staff. Jerry and Sandy will take good care of you and your car.
Today is Monday April 15, 2019. If your serious about doing your homework on La Mesa Auto Mechanics then please listen to my story. Choosing a trustworthy mechanic can be difficult, i usually send an email to the shop and advise the shop what I am interested in accomplishing with them. I did this with Jerry from Summit Transmission. Last week he asked me to bring my truck into his shop at 8 am and he would complete the work. I brought my truck to Summit Transmission at 8:30 am. This was the one day I took off from work as Jerry and I agreed on today. Jerry phones me around 4:45 pm and explains that he will be doing the work tomorrow. I told him, thats not going to work for me. I immediately arrived to pick up my truck. Jerry had no sense of doing anything wrong. His attitude was sh#t happens. Im out $245 for taking the day off, and he didnt even seem to care. He started making up excuses for why he hadnt phoned me earlier. I was unable to take this man at his word. If you cant take a mechanic at his word, thats NoGo criteria. Jerry was not a man of his word. I would advise going to Trust Automotive next door. Read the other post on here. Jerry seems to insult the consumer that speaks true but negative experiences about his business, very unprofessional.
I recently moved to California from Georgia and have had nunerous problems with my car. Because I am new, I relied on the reviews of prior customers and found that the assessment of Summitt Transmission is spot on. This facility is full of honest, trustworthy people who are truly about quality service. No games. In addition, the staff as a whole makes it their business to make you feel welcomed.
Summit Transmissions is the real deal when looking for a local, honest repair center. Not only are emplyees and owners professional, but they are informative and helpful in chosing the best option for each person. I cannot express enough how wonderful Jerry and Sandy both are, and how much I appreciate everything they have done to help me personally in my situation. Its worth the drive to La Mesa if you arent in the neighborhood for the quality of service they provide.
My husband and I agree...feel like a new car! Thanks for the great work and professional service!
Quality and thourogh service. The staff is very friendly, knowledgable, and accommodating. Theyre transparent about repairs and offer good auto advice. Their rewards program is a nice bonus too.
I bought a van from Jerry about a year and a half ago and have had nothing but transmission issues with it since. I should have known something wasnt quite right when he handed me a title that wasnt in his name. Therefore ignoring DMV laws by transferring a title into your own name. I bought the van off him by referral of a mutual friend. Jerry stated he had just rebuilt the transmission (Spring 2014). I figured buying a vehicle from a transmission shop owner should at least give me a strong transmission with no issues. The next day I bought the van it wouldnt start. I called Jerry, he came out and installed a new battery, still wouldnt start. He finally got it started but I still have issues a year and a half later. I have taken the van back to Jerry multiple times for transmission issues, slipping, not engaging into 3rd gear, etc...he stated that I bought the van AS IS and that it was my problem to deal with. Nov 2014 he charged me $500 (which he stated was out of the kindness of his heart) to repair the transmission again. Interesting that he only gave a 90 day warranty. The van still continues to have the same starting and transmission problems. I took it to two other mechanics. Due to an oil leak (Dec 2015) one mechanic replaced the transmission oil pan gasket and two other transmission related gaskets. This mechanic stated the gaskets looked like they were the original 1997 gaskets and they had definitely not been replaced during the life of the vehicle. Another mechanic stated it needs a rebuilt transmission (Dec 2015). I showed him the receipt for the work done at Summit in Nov 2014 and he commented on the 90 day warranty. He stated no reputable shop is going to give a 90 day warranty. This should have been at minimum a year warranty. I do not recommend using this shop. And Do Not buy a vehicle from Jerry. I do believe he took advantage of a situation I was in. I was broke, have a brain tumor and became homeless with my child due to not being able to work any longer and needed a vehicle with no payments. I paid him $2,400 for this van and have put way too much money in it within the past year and a half. The only reason I gave one star is because a star is required to post a comment.
Called in about a compression test that google led me to believe he did, instead, he suggested me to other places he knows are top quality, and even offered advice! polite, profession, easy to talk to.
Just got my car back this morning, and the problems have been solved. They did a great job talking to me about what the exact problem was and explaining what needed to be done. The prices were reasonable and the time to repair my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta was only a day!Im glad the workers at Pepboys sent me to Summit, I would highly recommend to my friends and will return here in the future for any further repairs!
Very honest people I brought my car in because the transmission was giving me some problems and I got a call after they inspected my car telling me it would cost me $3,000 to repair my transmission or take it to the dealership because it was still under warranty and not have to pay anything,I was very impressed that they went out and above and beyond to call the dealership on their own to see if my car was covered under warranty when they could have just charged me $3,000 to fix it, they are honest people.
Took my vehicle the very next day. Did the work they recommended and had my vehicle out and ready before their finish time.
No no no ...rop off thieves. . Gave me quote for work than up sale triple the price.. and impounded my truck with tools and ladders..total scumbags .i talked to jerry . He contradicted himself multiple times about why he impounded my truck..the fact remains he up sold the price on the telephone without giving me the proper paperwork copie... and delayed the repair for 30 days to make more money and file the impound paperwork. .. he stole my truck...
They did a great job
Jerry and his team listens and takes care of what you need! This team can be trusted and go the extra mile! Highly recommend. Thanks Jerry!!!
The best work Ive had done to my car
Went in for a transmission fluid change before moving all the way up north. A small problem at first, but it got resolved and then the owner showed me my fluid confirming that it was dirty and then finished the change. Car made it all the way to where I was going (1,200 miles) and still running like a champ.
Took a little long to get it fixed, but no fault of Jerry. My car was one of those with hard to find parts for. Jerry tried his hard to find the right transmission for my car. Luckily he found one that was rebuild for a discounted price. Thanks
Fast, great service. Reasonably priced.
Great service ! Super friendly!!!
Great service from a local business, awesome and welcoming staff
Very honest man and wonderful work thanks again
I originally went there for a transmission problem and after doing the test they told me that that wasnt the case then did a diagnostic and found the problem real quick and fixed it I was out of there in no time Im always going back thanks to you and all your mechanics you guys are the best.
Great Service and Prompt Turn Around.
Great Service, Great People, Great Results!Just Like The Election!
Gerry and his team are professional and honest!
Glad that Jiffy-Lube directed me to Summit Transmissions when my car started to have problems. Turns out it had a busted Transmission mount and Trans. fluid was dirty. After a few days, my car is now right as rain, so Thank you Jerry, for all your help!
