Being a huge ice cream fan (have some almost every night before bed), I couldnt wait to visit this place after hearing it was the Ice Cream Capital of the World. We finally had a chance during a recent trip home when we had a little extra time to spare. The building was modern, clean and full of energetic employees and the ice cream was delicious (see pictures). There was a great gift store to complement the ice cream counter as well as a small media center / showhall that shows a history of the family and company (see pictures). If you have the opportunity to swing a little out of the way on your trip up I-29, I highly recommend a quick stop in this quaint little town.Food: 5Atmosphere: 5Service: 5If you found this review helpful, please click on Like. ππ
So much fun! I love ice cream and will travel. The small exhibit upstairs is fun, especially the ice cream personality quiz. The store is super adorable and I got a cute ornament to add to my travel collection. Thenβ¦ thereβs the ice cream! Canβt go wrong with so many delicious flavors and treats!
If you are in the area and looking for a short excursion this is the place to go. The experience is worth getting off of I-29 and heading over to the Blue Bunny (Wells) Ice Cream Parlor. The selections are amazing and the serving sizes are huge. One scoop is insane. The gift shop has lots of souvenirs to add to your collection. Donβt forget you can go up to the outdoor patio and enjoy your ice cream outside on the rooftop.
We drove all the way from Omaha to this place as it is called the Ice cream capital of the world. True to its name, the ice cream quality here was extremely good and the place was extremely hygienic. We got the Banana split sundae and the chocolate volcano sundae and they were really tasty. The prices were also decent. A must visit if you are around the Midwest.
Went on Saturday at 2 pm there was a long line but moved very quickly. The staff is very friendly also they all were wearing masks & have gloves on. So many choices of ice cream. I had a shake the time before and this time I had a sundae both so good!!! Husband had two scoop of Sherbet which he enjoyed. Definitely stop in and enjoy the ice cream & museum about Blue Bunny.
This place is the embodiment of happiness. As their trinkets say, you cant buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream, and thats pretty much the same thing. The wait is worth it every time and youll love the cute gift store. I visit every time Im in town.
This was a nice pit-stop on our road trip. The upstairs has lots of interactive exhibits that are fun and educational. Also a cool little photo stand was some fun overlays/backdrops.And of course the ice cream parlor. It wasnt real busy while we were there but there are a lot of flavors to choose from. The ice cream cones are huge, but thats half the fun.The building itself is worth seeing on its own. An old, restored building in the heart of downtown. We didnt go on the outside patio as it was too hot, but it sounds like that is nice as well.
Two words - Lemon Meringue Float! Oh... thats three. Sorry Im in a heavenly sugar coma. Staring at the rows of delicious flavours, its almost easy to bypass this delicious treat. I think it took the young man longer to construct the float than it did for me to finish it. Seriously, you wont be disappointed.Unfortunately, the museum above the shop was still closed due to Covid, but I did get a few fun facts at the entrance.La Mars was named the Ice Cream Capital of the world in 1994, producing more ice cream than anywhere else annually.Wells Ice Cream is home to the Blue Bunny and Halo brands and uses enough ice cream sticks in its products each year to stretch from New York to San Francisco twice. The specially designed South Plant Freezer in La Mars is 12 stories high, and the 200 million gallons of ice cream produced each year could fill 5 Olympic-sized swimming pools every week of the year. Now you know. Go eat some ice cream.
Exceptional, but very popular and busy. This shop is one mile from the main home of wells blue bunny...so you wont find fresher, higher quality ice cream products anywhere in the world. Whats more..the decor is very nostalgic, with old architecture, original tile, and colors reminiscent of 40s n 50s diners. Yet its combined in unison with updated stuff, historical items and is well spaced. If you are in northwest Iowa and never stopped in...it is well worth the time to experience.
Very nice ice cream parlor very very cute waitresses semi busy all the time not too busy but busy with people from out of town it is a tourist trap and the prices show that that is a tourist place and it is very expensive but I enjoy having Wells Blue Bunny part of our community. And Schuster trucking great company growing fast big corporate office. Good parking on main Street or we call it Central avenue
Le Mars, Iowa, is the Ice Cream Capital of the World mostly due to the fact that the town is home to Wells Enterprises (maker of Blue Bunny ice cream). This visitor center and ice cream parlor provides an opportunity to sample the multitude of Blue Bunny ice cream flavors as well as pick up a souvenir. The line for ice cream can be long. Its nicely furnished and kept clean. Service is friendly despite the crowd. On a side note, as it seems like so many people I was in line with were excited to get Huckleberry ice cream, theres not actually any huckleberries in their Huckleberry ice cream. Its basically purple-colored blueberry ice cream. You can check the ingredients of all of their ice cream flavors on their website.
Always a treat to visit the ice cream parlor and have a heaping helping of Blue Bunny ice cream!
Swift service considering the quantity of customers at the time. Large portions of ice cream. I had a two scoop waffle cone. It was plenty for me.The building is well kept, and clean. Beautiful upstairs seating area inside. Nice covered and open balcony overlooking the downtown.
What a delightful place to visit! Delicious variety of ice cream treats. The theater presentation and interactive area was great fun.
The icecream is direct from the factory fresh. Todays was different, I ordered patasio almond icecream, but there were no nuts. The manager said, That is not right, and proceeded to throw away the entire pail and gave me a new dish with my choice of icecream The butter pecan had nuts! The outdoor seating is nice!
Didnt know LeMars was the ice cream capital of the world A nice discovery had a great time
Absolutely the best ice cream in the world. I was here for the first night of RAGBRAI and was amazed at how well they handled such a huge group of people coming in for blue bunny ice cream π¦
Worse chocolate shake. Hint do not use the chocolate syrup. No I was not going to get back in a long line to get my money back. Its easier just not to come back.
Really special ice cream parlor. Fun and filled with so many flavors. A must while in Le Mars.
Over-priced, as expected, but fun for the kids! We enjoyed our visit... would have purchased more souvenirs if they werent so expensive, however.
What a treat! We made a special trip to the Blue Bunny ice cream parlor on our way to Minnesota. The ice cream was delicious. The chocolate brownie is especially good. As I was leaving I thanked the server and shared some of my story growing with Blue Bunny and looking forward to eating some as I live overseas and she gave me a gift from the gift shop to take home. So special. My taste buds and nostalgia are very happy.
Lived the old fashioned ice cream parlor. Also had 6 flavors of no-sugar added ice cream.
Blue Bunny ice cream served either in a cone or dish. Variety of flavors available. Place is clean and employees are helpful.
Great, courteous service and a great child interactive area upstairs. Wonderful ice cream, too!
Great tasting ice cream!! Reasonably priced and an efficient and friendly staff!
Very cute, refreshing, and informative! Spacious as well. I had the wildberry sorbet and it was super fruity.
Delightful place to stop for some Blue Bunny ice cream in Lemar Iowa. Dont miss the Interesting museum upstairs.
Nice diversion. Clean. Pleasant and great ice cream!
Be warned, the monster Peanut Butter Cup is enough for a family!
Really good ice cream!! Nice area to sit down and enjoy a huge cone. Highly recommend the chocolate marshmallow cone...watch out for falling sprinkles, though!
Very fun place to take the kids. Neat venue. Lots of ice cream. There is even a movie about how everything started. Worth checking out of your in the area.
This place is very cool. Neat experience. Great ice cream.
I went here almost 8 years ago and they have definitely improved. The ice cream was fantastic and the size of there normal sundays are enough for 2 people.
Great experience, my family and I went on a Sunday, and yes they were open! π So we splurged on some delicious π ice cream!
Awesome ice cream. Parking was wherever you could find a spot on the street. We parked a block away.
I love Wells Blue Bunny ice cream and rarely have a chance to visit the Le Mars store...so it was quite a treat...
Truly awesome ice cream!!The museum is fun and interactive!Great for kids!A must see if youre in Iowa!
Friendly staff was able to quickly help our group of seven get cones and pay. Plenty of seating. Love the remodel with the updateAlways enjoy a trip to the ice cream parlor, wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. By far my favorite brand of ice cream.
The rest of the town was small and quaint this was like a Disney land location. Its supposedly over 100 years old but it was plastic and nothing represented its heritage. (Edit- I learned there is a heritage center upstairs). The prices were quite expensive.I wasnt impressed but I guess if you want some ice cream, this will get the job done.On a positive I can say all the kids there seemed happy so theyre doing something right.
This place is amazing! It was very entertaining for my kids and a lovely place to visit. I will be going here more often this summer.
I went for the first time in 2019 with a group of friends and we all enjoyed it. I oddly enough got sorbet and loved it. I kept my spoon all these years as a souvenir. Reasonable prices and multi-language menus. Accepting of all people and lots of retro and new Ice Cream decor you can look at. Theres also an upstairs but I didnt check that part out. Maybe next time.
If you like Ice cream dont skip this stop. The movie and history of this place is great. Very nice gift shop.
Best place for Ice Cream in Iowa! Reminds me of Coldstone creamery with the extra addins. Great place to see some history and take pics!
Our daughter is an ice cream lover and we decided that we needed to take her to the Ice cream capitol of the world! She had a great time and enjoyed the movie about the Wells family. I had a Peanut Butter shake and it was awesome. I rarely find them without chocolate so I was super excited to have it!
Great Ice cream and very interesting place. Really enjoyable.
What is better than an ice cream museum? The history was very interesting. It all started in 1913 and grew from there. There is ice cream to eat while you visit (not for free but worth it). I will visit again if I get by here again.
Great place to visit. The kids loved the ice cream selection, and the virtual ice cream factory wall.
Always a fun stop
What a fun place. Lots of history and the ice cream was great! Worth a visit!
Great place to visit!
Unique place to stop once in a great Ohio very crowded very busy but moved right along.great ice cream
So clean. Interesting history. Delicious treats. Love how several varieties of seating.
Wells blue bunny ice cream is the best. Lots of flavors available. I like the butter pecan.
Best strawberry cheesecake ice cream Ive ever had! So many great flavors to choose from, atmosphere was very nostalgic and we learned so much about the business touring it!
Delicious ice cream options and fabulous customer service. Make time to check out the history displays
Yummy! What a wonderful treat! I got a shake with cotton candy ice cream! ππ
Very good icecream, but I dont like their liberal political beliefs, and their support of those policies.
Had the single dip which you got 2 choices of ice cream flavors. I had the mint chip and strawberry cheesecake and they were both delicious.
The remodel is pretty dang nice, but you can buy an entire container of Blue Bunny ice cream at Walmart for cheaper than an ice cream cone from here
The BEST Ice Cream Shop experience. Went there 7 years ago and again yesterday. Still THE BEST.
Awesome, you can try every flavor if you want to, then you can purchase the one you like the most in a bowl or cone or sundae.
I was brought here by a very good friend of mine. Let me just say - WOW!! The icecream is over the top and delicious. The portion sizes are a bit much, so this is pretty much dinner and dessert for the average person. My kids went nuts for this place. This is the kind of place ully expect to see on Buzzfeed insider. How if hasnt made the lists are beyond me. There really isnt much else to see in this town, but definitely worth a detour. By the way, the prices are very low, so this makes slipping into town for a nice cold treat even better.
Get the Sundays over the shake. Same price but way better.
Great place to stop if ever in Le Mars! Reminded me a little of the baseball HOF with the set up - except it serves ice cream!
A world class stop! They hosted us with free ice cream for RAGBRAI.
Okay. Had a strawberry sundae. It was quite large. 1thumb up.
Loved this place. Bring the kids and feed them ice cream
Very unique! Loved the ice cream selection. This is the only place I have loved the background music. Definitely a destination stop!
We love going here for a tasty treat. Their Sundays are large enough to share and they have so many different choices. Their new remodel is fun and interactive for the whole family.
Love it! Such a fun atmosphere. Very fun ice cream parlor, museum, and gift shop. A must do family activity. Such friendly staff!
