Went here for brunch and it was so worth passing by! The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious! Of course I had to try everything as you can see π French toast was so good! Alot of food but I ate everything! Probably one of my favorite places in long Beach for brunch! But it was definitely the staff that made it great! Will come again!
The most exceptional thing about this diner is the service. We came in with a little less than an hr till closing and stayed about tweny minutes after and the staff never made us feel like an inconvenience.Mimosas start at $7 - no options for carafe or unlimited and most plates start at $10.The food was okay. The potatoes were dried out and old - not cool at all for a breakfast spot. A friend returned his plate because it was too salty and then it came back way too bland; he just didnt eat it. Another friend was assured her fruit would be on the side (she has allergies), it was not. For my end, my food (stuffed french toast) was amazing, even though they originally forgot the topping (Nutella) but I was the only person in my party who had no issue. For $120 for 5 people who each had one alcoholic beverage is about average for a good breakfast. This was just okay. I would go back for the service, maybe, not for the food since it was so hit and miss.
On a whim we decided to drive up from San Diego for breakfast... and this place did not disappoint. The staff are friendly and efficient. The Breakfast Bundle was good, but hands down the banana and Nutella french toast was amazing. Iβm not a fan of french toast, but I would definitely come back for this one.
Great food best coffee, but potatoes not so good but great service will return.
First timers and will be back! Had a ton of fun and love the menu. Something for everyone. Crab in your bloody?!!! Yes please! Or bacon?! The French toast was amazing...got the peaches and butter on the side to warm up for breakfast tomorrow. Great bread. My husband added this to our list of favorites π Cant wait to review on more items! Oh, great little patio too!
First vacation morning home and its street sweeping so Im up and out breaking fast at the local Starling Diner in the Belmont Shores/Heights neighborhood. Its a true diner when the server says to you Good Morning Hun when you walk in. Unique French/Diner fusion menu as well. Quite enjoyed my Roast Beef Hash & Eggs. Interesting how it is formed into a patty but very tasty.
My parents came here just about everyday during their trip. We joined them once and it was really good. They have normal breakfast diner meals and some very fun French toast options. The potatoes are the best!
The best breakfast in a cute small local eatery. Everything our table had was phenomenal. We had the salmon mascarpone starters topped tomato, dill and capers...yum!!! The stuffed French toast is to die for and the Carmel and vanilla steamers were also very good. We got there early, a little after opening to ensure no wait and were seated right away. Very friendly staff! Everyone was very inviting. We will definitely be coming back.
Love, love, love!! May not look fancy but such a cute little diner. Its in a neighborhood so makes it really quiant. The workers were all so nice and added such an elegance in how they serve you.The best part of all is their food. Im so obsessed with the Breakfast Bruschetta! The sweetness isnt overwhelming but has such good flavor. Unique idea. My husband got the chicken apple sausage breakfast and I got a tuna melt sandwich. They flavor and season their food so well. Its just a perfect place for your taste buds to enjoy.
A very secluded cute diner in a residential area, we went on a weekend but the wait wasnt too long, though the place is small !The interior is very cute and quite noisy but not in a bad way .Customer service was on point and everything was served pretty quick, cappuccino was on point . We ordered the famous stuffed French toast with berries, it looks huge on the plate but once you start eating it its good for one person only, eat it as soon as its served or the ends of the bread might get hard. The mushroom, spinach and monetary jack omelette was also pretty good . Overall had a great experience and will definitely visit again .The menu has a lot of options which is also a plus point along with multiple vegan options. The French toast should not be missed, Ive never had something like that before.
Very good breakfast with healthy choices. I would go back again with no problem. The scones were great with sweet butter or lemon curd. Really good!
Truly a neighborhood gem.Fancy is not a fit description.Great food and service should be applied. My buddy wanted the pot roast sandwich. No can do today. At 11:45am they were sold out of pot roast! So he suffered and ordered the same a me...Blue Crab Cakes and eggs! The crab cakes are HUGE. Tasty only begins to describe these tasty gems. This was my 1st visit. It will not be my last!
Food is EXCELLENT!! Staff is also excellent βΊοΈ. The wait time right now is long, because of the pandemic, and they are limited to only a few outside tables. But they are still getting it done, and doing it right!! This was my first visit here, and I will definitely be back. I had the stuffed french toast with fresh berries ... YUUUUMMMMYYYYY!!!
I love love love the scones and lemon curd here! The eggs are always cooked right and their flavor combos are lovely!
This place is always spot on. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, service is always spectacular. We had the French toast, chorizo scramble, and cocktails. A definite recommendation while in Long Beach!
Excellent high quality food. This place is great! Highly recommend. Especially for breakfast and brunch. I havent tried their dinner yet but it sure sounds good.
Came on a Friday morning for brunch. Quaint place, food and drinks were good. We also ordered a mocha and cappuccino and those were also delicious. The food came out quickly. Would go again
Best French Toast Ive had. The atmosphere is amazing!
Great little quaint restaurant in a residential area. There is indoor/outdoor dining and the food is delicious. Great find on a chill Monday morning.
Came here this last weekend and it was a really nice experience. I was surprised that there was a diner just holed up in the middle of a Long Beach neighborhood. That is by no means a bad thing at all because one of my biggest fears of coming to Long Beach for a meal is the parking, the time commitment sometimes, and the traffic which it all avoided by being a little further away.Lets start off with parking/location. Parking was extremely plentiful because it was in a neighborhood. I parked a little further away but it was still an easy walk. The location is of course a bit different because you do need to be looking for it in literally in the neighborhood.Seating was easy and there is options for outside and inside. I was seated inside right next to the window so there was a view of the outside seating and the street. There is opportunities for bigger parties as well so no worries on that. The service was quick and attentive and they check-in with us multiple times throughout our meal and even when we were waiting for our friend to join us.The food and beverages were delicious. I have the typical scrambled eggs and it came with tasty roasted potatoes, a piece of baguette as well as two slices of bacon. My friend got the Chorizo Scramble and the other got the Nutella Baguette. They were all delicious and would definitely come back. Out of everything I ordered, the potatoes were definitely the one that took the top spots. Who knew something as simple as potatoes can be made so perfectly. For drinks, I ordered the Cafe Au Lait which was basically Iced Coffee with Creamer and toped with bits of chocolate.Overall, coming to Starling Diner was a great experience. Everything was delicious and the service was superb. The environment felt so warm and welcoming and I would definitely be back here soon.
Delightful place. Food, drinks and atmosphere top notch. Awesome servers.
I ordered the green tea steamer and WOW!!! It was perfect. So creamy, perfect sweetness level, dont know how they made it but it was perfection at its finest. For food, my friend ordered the eggs Benjamin (their version of Benedict) with smoked salmon. I ordered the smoked salmon crostini and a side of scrambled eggs. nice
It seemed a little chaotic in the restaurant but we were promptly seated at the bar. The ambiance is super cool and friendly with all sorts of local art and tchotchkes adorning the walls. It took awhile to get the food but it was hot, delicious and clearly prepared with care when it arrived. The servers were stressed but they managed to hide it well enough that the service wasnt affected. Overall a great stop on our LB trip.
The food was to die for. The place is a little small so the wait can be a bit long, but its totally worth it. Plenty of street parking and its pet friendly.
Thank you for the delicious breakfast! It was one of the best we had while on our vacation in South CA!
The food is so delicious and high quality that this was one of our main pandemic take out go to spots. Never disappointed by the food even with the tough switch to keeping quality while switching to takeout. Everyone I talk to that has gone never has a bad thing to say about this place. overall is good

My sister brought me to this place, my first time here. Everything that I ordered was ahhhhmaaazing!! Compliments to the chef! The staff was on point! Im definitely coming back!
Everything here tastes amazing. Diner is small so it is usually pretty loud but worth it. Their French Toast is the best, I dont like French toast from anywhere else now. Parking is typical for Long Beach. Still my favorite breakfast place in the LBCToday I got the Eggs Florentine (I think thats what it was called) that is pictured below. Their potatoes are seasoned well.
Excellent food as others have noted. Parking can be a problem in the morning when both sides of the street are full. Very relaxed service. Probably closer to 4.7 because of the parking.
OMG!!! Cant believe Ive never visited this little hidden gem!π This was my first time dining here and it was DELICIOUS. If youre in the Long Beach area you have to give it a try. Super nice staff and very friendly as attentive. My daughter had their French Toast, they totally redefined French toast and left any other ones eating dust! Their complementary water is infused with lemon and cucumbers so refreshing! Thank you guys for all your hard work and see you soon.
This place was absolutely delicious my mother saw Guy on the food networks w at this place and told me we had to go. Definitely will go back.
Such a great breakfast place, amazing food.
New favorite restaurant find in Long Beach. Imaginative, tasty menu. Wonderful service. Highly recommend!
Oh my goodness... great little breakfast/brunch spot. Hit this place up on a Sunday morning after a late Saturday night and you will not be dissapointed.

Consistently great food service and Atmosphere, love this place!!!
Just their scones alone make the visit worthwhile
Stumbled upon this gem of a place this morning. Needed to stop. I Had the chorizo plate. I love chorizo and this was delicious, with the potatoes and added avocado. My daughter had the poached eggs with bacon and a chilled Chai tea. We definitely will return to this little place. Service was very friendly and quick.
Service was great, Food tastes AMAZING ! Ill be back soon. Great breakfast spot for a small group of friends or family.
A small neighborhood diner with some great food options and fast friendly service. I believe supporting your local mom and pop restaurants are important.
I love their peach French toast, scones, and roasted mushrooms, spinach, and monterrey jack scramble! I eat here every time Im in long beach!
Good food, great service. No parking, but its Long Beach, so its to be expected.
Awesome as always. Great outdoor seating, best French toast around.
That food its great and the service is great and the price is fear thank you very much for the service and the food
So good! Definitely recommend. Itβs such a cute spot and the food is amazing. Great customer service!
As usual, breakfast was delightful. Although the peach and bourbon french toast was made with canned peaches and all in all, just too sweet for me. If you like sweet and dont mind canned (alot of folk prefer)then youll love it. They really shine with savory eggs and wonderful potatoes.
The most amazing French toast, the staff is awesome. Prepare to wait on the weekends.
Awesome food and better service...a five star experience for a neighborhood diner..
This place is very cute and cozy. We got here around 2pm, we sat at the bar and there was no wait. My boyfriend had the breakfast polenta and it was delicious; full of fresh berries whipped cream and sweet cream. We as well had the french cream sodas, i definitely recommend you try the vanilla or caramel flavor; full of flavor and so creamy. I had the kansas city chicken sandwich, i love bbq sauce however this sandwich was completely drenched in bbq sauce, it didnt give me a chance to taste the chicken or bread. I as well had the vegan lentil soup and i loved it. If im in the area ill stop by to give it a second try.
Delicious food, especially French toast and chicken apple sausage. Servers were a bit pushy.
Great customer service and food
Great for brunch small and quaint very good place to spend a morning chatting and eating good food with out of this world bloody Marys !!!!!!
Fantasic meal at Starling Diner, Long Beach CA. Outstanding attentive service by servers, clean, restaurant and reminds you of the good old days where dining 1st class, great food was expected. No cookie cutter type menu, but a great selection of breakfast brunch items as well as lunch. Cannot ask for a better meal no matter the time of day. The Twice Baked Granola with a variety of yogurts, milk, berries etc. available is highly recocommended. Must try scones as they are fantastic.
Good food, good service with unique breakfast dishes like stuffed french toast with various fruit fillings. Yum!!
Great place. So lucky to have it in our neighborhood.
Everything on menu looked good and I know for the fact that the steak and eggs were good and the omelet was cooked to perfection. So if theres a long line at Mamas head over here youll still have a great breakfast to get your day going.
Food is delicious, service is amazing. Treat yourself todayβΌοΈβΌοΈ
