I dont think its made clear before you arrive that you have to arrive bang on time to start a pre booked tour. Wed wrongly assumed you could turn up within say a 30min slot and wander around. We were only 2 minutes late but the tour had already left and given the security requirements, as the place holds many millions at any given time, it is now understandable, as you are escorted from building to building. The staff made us feel as though we were a huge inconvenience. Once in we did have a lovely time and loved the whole mint experience. We also bought lots in the gift shop and will keep an eye out for special events.
A great place to learn and get the behind the scene action on how coins are minted, distributed and quality is maintained.Located slightly away from the city, its a proper 25 min drive and thats the only drawback I felt ..The gift shop is decent, slightly over priced, but overall a good place to visit
Very nice tour punched a coin for my 60th birthday
Went as part of a tour, much more interesting than I thought it would be. Very informative as well. Lots of security, but thats to be expected!
Loved it, really interesting. The guide was really informative and was able to answer all the questions put to her. Would definitely recommend this.
I enjoyed learning about how our coins are made and the stories behind some of the amazing designs. There also a good cafe. The staff were really friendly and went the extra mile. A good stop off to break up the holiday homeward bound journey.
Loved this. You get a explanation of how the coins are made and a tour round the some of the coin sorting areas. It then goes through and you can press your own mint condition coin. Once through that area you then go into an exhibition area with lots of fascinating things to look at.My only issue is it gives you loads of info on the coin making progress....but you can only see a small area. I would like to have seen the furnaces where they melt the metals and pour in to moulds.
If you are interested in coins then this is the place for you. I am, so i always find this place fascinating. You can strike your own coin to, on an open day experience. Good fun for all.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. The young lady who I think was called Mia if I am not mistaken. Was really informative and very approachable. I recommend it, an very good experience.
Friendly, informative and great putting for all ages
Very interesting tour and a good museum. Souvenir shop with lots of options and more resturant with plenty of tables. Ample parking
Fantastic place to visit - really interesting to understand a little bit more about how coins are made, how the designs are chosen and the history surrounding them. For a small fee, you are able to strike your own coin to see the process in action so you can take your own uncirculated coin home with you.Our tour guide was great and very entertaining!
Lovely place to visit. Excellent tour guide. Interesting, spotless venue and very accommodating staff. The cafe service and food was Excellent. The toilets were spotless.Thankyou all.
Fantastic place to visit. Great staff and the tour was very interesting. Definitely visit again if am in the area.
I found it is a very interesting tour. Also being able to print your own coin. Its a long drive there and back for me. The young ones enjoy it seeing a blank coin and watch it being press printed. It would make a great mid week break being able to go to a farm, camp out, doing a short trek exploring rocks. Then having a train ride on the. There so much to see in Wales also to do. If it was the right trip out.
Fascinating day out - 30 minutes informative tour with entertaining guide, followed by as long as you need in the museum exhibition - very Covid safe - not much for kids at the moment, but judging from the online offerings there will be plenty to do when restrictions are eased - nice cafe with a variety of offerings, air conditioned (big plus when we visited!) Nicely laid out shop, plenty of parking, highly recommended.
Extremely disappointed. I have made contact on 4 occasions on your website and in joining online, not once have you contacted me to discuss the substantial investment I wished to make. Terrible service, I would not recommend.
Many thanks to Michael haydn of customer services, helped me out of a difficult situation. Youre a star
We loved our visit to the Royal Mint museum and experience. It was really good, set in lovely grounds and surroundings and very informative and insightful. I would recommend this for a great family day out.
Took the grandchildren on the Mint experience with my daughters, we all loved it, really interesting,
Great experience, very good guided tour for all the family, showing how all our coins in circulation are developed, designed and minted. Shop & all facilities very good.
Took my grandson had a good time few things he didnt understand but enjoyed stamping a coin
What a superb experience!I visited today to strike my own Brexit 50p coin. I bought a family package online which included entry for two adults, two kids, a hot lunch for everyone and two strikes. The tour started with a security scan, an introduction to what the Mint is, how they work and their history. Youre then taken on a factory tour where some mad employee started throwing pound coins at you and pouring handfuls of coins at the glass between you and the factory. So funny! At the end of the tour, you visit a room with a press, a blank is loaded into the press and you hit the button to strike your coin which is then loaded into a presentation box and handed to you.The staff are absolutely brilliant. Theyre ALL so helpful, friendly and always smiling. The food was delicious and the cakes were fresh and fluffy. The entire tour was a couple of hours but you felt looked after by dedicated staff the whole time! The self-guided tour is interesting and theres a £400,000, 12.5kg block of gold on display for you to get your mitts on. The money flowing through and lying around (secured!!) that place is immense! They have at least £170,000 in coins on display inside the factory and £90,000,000 in storage at any time. This is a really interesting and fascinating tour. It really opens your eyes about cash, the coins in circulation and the logistics into making this happen securely and safely.Make sure you visit the shop and find you weight in gold. Their scales weigh you and work out what youd be worth of your were gold. For the record, Im worth £2,310,000. Now my wife can appreciate me that much more! 😃We had an awesome day and I have to thank the staff for that!Thank you!!
The Royal Mint is a very interesting place to visit. Our guide, Alison was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. There was a technical problem so not all the machinery was working which was a shame. It was a little disappointing not to see more of the manufacturing process. Overall a good tripnout.
Interesting and enjoyable. Staff all friendly. Coffee was terrible though
This is a great place to visit and learn about the different coins being minted for different parts of the world here. Quite disappointed despite being on 35 acres, they only showed the public a small piece. There is parking near this place and decent reat rooms available. Tour guide prices are quite pricey despite making money already:) Definitely recommended if anyone wants to learn more about coins in the UK and rest of the world. Thank you.
Very good day out. The staff provided a fantastic service and were very knowledgeable. Also highly recommend the coffee in the cafe, it was DELICOUS!
Absolutely spectacular! Very informative tour of the facilities, and an amazing expo afterwards - its not often you get to see an Una & Lion £5, a 1933 penny and an Edward VIII sovereign with a few feet of eachother!
The perfect place to go for all coin collectors
Nice to look at all the money Ill never own :)
Very interesting tour. Well worth a visit.
I visit here twice a year. Absolutely love the shop. Arrived at 11ish. A little queue outside, people waiting to go on the Royal mint experience. Explained to the gent that we wanted to go in the shop. Had our temps taken & details taken for track & trace. Hand gels at the front door, Very covid safe.
Not serious page. Ofered free delivery, but charged anyway. Item ordered 5th of July and not served after two months. I wrote twice to customers service and I am still wating for some answer. Awful and not trustworthy.
A guided tour full of surprising facts (not sharing any as you want that tour). Will never see the pound coin in the same way!
Very interesting and informative. Friendly and helpful guides
Amazing visit and very good to know the history of how the coins are made
Enjoy the experience a love time for all the family
Excellent experience, throughly enjoyed it, would highly recommend if you are into coins.
A great place to visit. Car park is a short walk from the centre with ample parking.Front of the visitor centre is very welcoming and modern. The tour itself is very interesting and the tour guide we had was fantastic - Theodora- she made it fun and was very enthusiastic. She clearly enjoys her job and it shows. You can strike your own coin for £5 and its a nice little keepsake. The exhibition is quite interesting too, with some key artefacts to see.Gift ship good too and a nice cafe if you need to wait for your tour to start.Would definately recommend visiting here. Such a great and interesting place.
Another great visit. Plenty to look in shop. Helpful staff. Cafe food hot.
Fantastic place to visit even if you dont collect coins, so much history and stories you would never have expected! Gives you a hell of more respect for the money thats in your pocket the work thats put into it mind blowing. Our tour guide Alison was absolutely awesome as well! So knowledgeable and engaging, no matter what the question was she knew the answer, defiently added a lot to the tour really cant recommend her or the tour anymore. Hey your butt down for a visit! And strike your own coins as well
It had a good way of showing how Pennys were made
Good few hours out, will probably return with the grandchildren, nice café with good food.
Had a wonderful day good tour knowledgeable guide . Great food in the restaurant hot and tasty. Well worth a visit
Well worth a visit, tour guide Matt was great really informative, pay the extra online for the coin striking as it saves you £2
2nd time here and better everytime
Really enjoyed the Experience and the Guide Bethney for her 1st unsupervised first showing did very well. Keep up the good work 💪
An interesting day.. guided was very knowledgeable (Arnie). Well worth a trip even had a go at striking our own 50p.
Interesting to know the Royal Mint.makes couns for 60 countries. Good tour but not interactive. Guide was informative and knowlegable but talked at you.
Great place to visit especially with the guided tour thrown in as you will hear about all of the history of the Royal Mint from its beginning to the present day. You will also see the machines working and you will surely be as impressed as I was to discover how many millions of coins are stamped each and every week. They also stamp medals (Olympic Games) being only one example of the hundreds they have produced. A fantastic place to visit and you can even stamp out your own coin.
This is a lovely place to go the tour was fantastic I would definitely recommend it if you like this sort of thing 😊😊😊😊
Really great place lovely cafe lots to learn and see
Excellent tour of the Mint, tour guide was very knowledgeable and even got to strike our own coins! Well worth a visit
Very interesting. Has a nice cafe with nice staff
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.Good to see it open again.
Hi absolutely fantastic time there well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Good gold investment opps
Great few hours and facilities if you have extra time do some drawing for future new coins
I have only used the Royal Mint once and although there service was good I have to question their choice of Courier, I am talking about DHL, I was expecting my Silver Brittanias today Friday 16th July 2021 but they decided to deliver to someone 12 miles away in Leeds so not only the wrong address but had the guy signing for delivery with a completely different name to me and the delivery driver didnt even bat a eye lid, so now Im in the process of either get my goods back or pursue a insurance claim through DHL and by the way the customer service number is automated so no one to actually talks to you so everything is done by email and they promise to respond within 3 working days 😠 cut a long story short I will not buy from the Royal Mint again as the delivery service they use is open to either theft or incompetence, Im just glad I didnt order any Gold Brittanias or the cost would have been thousands
Tour and exhibition was great. Cafe ordering system is shambolic.
Fascinating. The tour was a little disappointing as you cant actually see a great deal
It was a good experience, but we thought the place would be bigger.
Good knowledgeable guide. Tour lasts about an hour. No photography allowed until you reach the end tour in the exhibition room. There is free parking located about 2-300m away. It is not cheap but the whole experience was enjoyable.
We had a really good time here but for the price I was slightly disappointed at the tour which felt rushed started really good with a video presentation then we were lead by the guide to the factory which is so security tight (understandably) but you could have a better chance breaking someone out of prison than taking a penny or photo. This experience is catering for collectors and people with no kids! Our son is autistic and like to mix that with ADHD so controlling such offender can be hard but we managed no to bad but felt that because he had low outbursts we were singled out the tour guide gave a speech how the coins came into existence but gave you seconds to ask a question in return and when asked certain questions its like his computing restrictions kicked in and had a melt down and just moved on. Overall it was a expensive experience but it was ok and maybe in the future well try again.
Great experience. Worth visiting.
Really good on coin history and some very shiny coins
Extremely Interesting and informative The tour consists of a video of the history then a look at the dies and how the coins are made followed by a view of the stamping room then into the museum takes an hour plus how long you spend in the museum and shop
We are proud of The Royal Mint. There is souvenir shop related The Royal Mint products.Students should come here to learn long history of UK coins.
The royal mint is home to the monstrous money makeing machines of uk, the machines make money for over twenty different countries and additional coins for commemorative events, the royal mint experience tour lasts around 40 to 60 minutes and is lead by a tour guide with immense knowledge of the royal mint and its past . The tour is extremely educational and fun with the chance to stamp your own 2 pound coin, it is a perfect family trip and will keep everyone entertained . The royal mint has a large choice of food and drink at its Caffe as well as a gift shop and toilets, the site is fully accessible for wheelchair users .
Beautiful at Xmas and a lovely place. The staff are kind and the parking is near. Overall the best experience ever. coins
Very interesting experience
Fascinating place lots of history here they do far more than just coins.
I ordered a couple of coins for a friend. The website does not have a gift option so I sent an e-mail as soon as I completed the order, on a Sunday. I simply asked not to include an invoice in the package. They reply on Monday with a dry line informing me that it was too late to request a modification. No empathy no attention to my needs no efforts to show interest in my feedback. These are the little things that make me resolve never to use one website again.
Its very very very nice
Lovely, a little boring but i didnt go for myself, my other half is fascinated with coins lately and I guess this cured his curiosity. Lovely blonde older lady who guided us around gave an in depth, detailed, informative description of the royal mint. I didnt really find much interesting about the process of coin making, It seemed to me common sense, as if I already had that idea in my head anyway so no WOW factor to it.We punched 3 coins and had a browse around at the end. Also bought a colouring book for our 6 year old which I thought was educational. Guess its a place to say yes Ive been there also great to know how much money they make every week, year and not only for the UK they make for Thailand ect..my partner really enjoyed it though and he wants to work there. *eye roll*
Excellent tour. 30 minute or so guided tour, then a walk around yourself, approx. 2 hours including shop. Very interesting, enjoyed it. Thanks to Louise the tour guide.
Good fun... The tour doesnt take long and is interesting...
The Royal Mint Experience, WalesWednesday 4th April 2018The factory was opened by the queen to start production in 1968 & the experience to the public in 2016.Booking online is a prority as you have to book in for the tour, showing up isnt really an option as its very popular, particularly during the school holidays. There is plenty of free allocated parking a short walk from the museum.Set on a site of 35 acres, the tour shows you a small fraction of the operation of making coins. After going through security, very similar to that at airports, you are greeted by your tour guide in the film room, you watch a short film about the importance and production of coin currency, history etc. After this, the tour guide leads you to the factory where you are shown how each coin goes through each stage to become currency. No photos are allowed in this area, with a high level of security even phones/cameras are not allowed out on view. The tour lasts approximately 45 mins, you get to watch machines make the coins, not only does the factory make UK currency but does for many other countries too & is the leading royal mint in the world. The Royal Mint makes 90,000 coins every week! Before leaving the high security, very secret factory, you can (at additional cost of £5) press your very own £2 coin, which really is just pressing a button & a staff member doing the rest. The last room hosts 1 million pounds in pound coins securely displayed, you are given the opportunity to have a photo taken with the million pounds, £££ which you can view & purchase in the gift shop on exit. The tour is fully accessible for all & is very informative, the tour guide was fantastic, especially with the children, getting them involved & hands on with learning the history & process. The tour guide left us in the museum after concluding the tour of the factory.Very impressed with our tour guide, she knew every answer, she was clear & genuinely lovely, the tour was a great experience. In the museum photos could be taken, full of the history it hosted a wide variety of activities, games for the children. The Royal Mint also press medals, so having family which served in the war this was very interesting. Not only do they press for other countries but make medals for events such as the Olympics aswell. The gift shops is full of collectors items to purchase, many with high price tags. A variety of items to buy, from fridge magnets, chocolate to one off coins. This is where you can view & purchase your million pound photo if you had it taken during the tour, a great souverner. The gift shop could extend its merchandise in supporting the actual experience itself. The average time spent at the experience is 2 hours, including the tour. There are accessible toilets which are clean. There is a large cafe on site serving hot & cold refreshments.Outdoor seating to the front of the building should you want to eat in the sun, smoke or eat own food.As a family of 7; 5 of whom are children aged 2, 6, 9, 9 & 15, it was suitable and enjoyed by all. The tour was interesting and timely, reasonably priced & highly recommend.A great opportunity & educational experience, amazing staff, great facilities & another asset to Wales.
Very interesting experience.
Well worth a trip
