Ever since I got in to raw denim a couple of years back I wanted to visit a Self Edge. I recently decided to visit Portland so I HAD to stop by! I tried on a couple of items, which I was extremely happy to try instead of blind buying like I have in the past, and I decided to get a pin and a lighter!A must stop for denim aficionados!

I had a great experience here. Farbod really wanted to help me find the right pair of jeans. He knows a lot and his advice and recommendations were spot on. I found the one and I love ‘em. Although the alteration/hem took longer than the time they quoted, it is a free service, so it wasn’t too much of a big deal. The wait was worth the quality of the product and the thoughtful service I received. 10/10 recommend this place if you’re looking for quality selvedge denim.

I have never spent a lot a pair of jeans. No more then a good pair of Levis jeans. Tho, after my amazing experience at this small shop, I am going to start investing in real denim. There experience of the staff was top notch. I will no longer be spending my money on fast retail denim. Save your money and get the real stuff from people who care about you. They place maybe small tho youll love selection of product. Ill be going back to even get a pair of boots. Check it out for yourself.

Having tried another store without luck Self Edge was recommended to me. I walked in, described what I was looking for and was given suitable options. Jonathan was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to roll the pant legs to exactly the right length by just looking at me. I am a petite woman but found the perfect pair of jeans in a short amount of time. The first pair he picked were the ones I purchased after trying on three others. They are ridiculously knowledgeable about the jeans that they carry, and they have a lot of different cuts and denim varieties from some great denim producers (3Sixteen, Flat Head, Iron Heart, Sugar Cane, etc.).They also have a decent selection of heavy weight flannels, jackets, shirts and other things. But most importantly, they will patiently guide you through their selection, giving helpful feedback on fit and style. They are also a wealth of knowledge regarding how their products will wear over time, as at least one of the staff is likely to own one of every item in their stock.They arent cheap, but if you care about a perfect fit, and buying clothes that will last you for years to come, Self Edge is your place for denim and more. They wont try to just sell you things and shove you out the door. The sales person spent a lot of time helping me find the best fit and was really attentive with all the small details in my purchase. Really loved shopping there.

Mecca for those looking for Japanese romantic reproductions of classic American denim. Chances are you know what youre getting into if you seek this place out (ie, Japanese brands selling insanely detailed ~$300 jeans as well as boots and other clothing) Normally Id be put off by the snobbery that their stock would entitle them to but the people who work here are awesome. They know their jeans backwards and forwards, are genuinely helpful and even when I asked stupid questions, they didnt blink or even give any hint that they might talk down to me.

Went in after Christmas and the fellas working were super helpful and friendly. The store is small but very nice. I went in for womens jeans and they do have some, although only 4-5 types and they are sort of hidden on the east rack, so just ask them to see what they have. Both employees were very helpful with tips on sizing, washing and wearing. Once I settled on a pair they were ready to hem it right then and there (they were all in length 34 but Im short) but we had to skip to the other side of town for a quick errand. Came back in an hour and they were ready to go. One of the guys even randomly offered me a banana, saying that he had extra groceries and was leaving town the next day for vacation. Its organic! he added. So Portland, I love it.The only thing they didnt mention (I looked it up later) was that the 3sixteen+ jeans are sanforized, so there wont be as much shrinkage as with some common mens raw denim styles. Also theres not really a strong market for womens raw denim yet so they are expensive! However I expect the jeans to last me many years, and I particularly like that they charge very reasonable rates for darning repairs.In short, do recommend, this is the Portland everyone loves. :)

TL;DR - perfect for denim enthusiastsSelf Edge in Portland is on the smaller side, but filled with very knowledgable staff. They knew we would not be buying anything but still were very helpful and even wrote down a number of brands that fit the criteria we were looking for along with a number/email to contact them at if we had more questions. They carry certain brands that are not available anywhere else in the US as well. They hem pants in store for a one day turn around.If you are into high end denim this place is for you!

Went in to get my jeans chain-stitched hemmed (only place in town that I know of that will/can do it). Both employees were super nice and helpful even though I didnt purchase my jeans there. Talked with them about other denim for a bit while I was there. Super knowledgeable about all things denim. If you want any info on premium denim this should be your one stop. I will definitely go back. Awesome place, Im glad we have a Self Edge in PDX now.

Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I tried on a ton of different sizes, models and brands and they help guide me to the right pair for me. Exactly the folks you want helping steer you through the experience. They could have easily been annoyed with my flip floppy decision making process but were great the whole way through. Youre definitely going to drop some serious coin on denim but this is the place. It seemed small at first but there is a lot of inventory. Eventually I had to stop looking or I would have bought more and gone broke. Then next thing Id know, id have to use the bag my jeans came in to start panhandling out front. Ill be back for sure though.

The staff is very knowledgeable about the jeans and will help you find the pair that suits you. They will hem them for free as well. Its a small shop but they are likely to find what you need.
