This guy is awesome! I spoke with Mr. Sanders for 40 minutes on the phone before I set an appointment. Kinda quirky in a good way. Reminds me of my stepdad and the scientist from “Back to the Future”. He absolutely knows his stuff! From spacial difference to geometry to the underlying dynamics of the player (and those who would like to be). I’m so glad I chose him to meet with my son. He is no nonsense and will flat out tell you if you are wasting your time and/or money. Thankfully, I’m not wasting either. Thank you again, sir! You, sir, are the one with the gift!!! 🥰

This is a great shop with an eclectic vintage vibe. I visited with Wally for a quite a while about my guitars and amps and he showed me what he had in the shop. There were some great vintage items that you dont find in the big box stores. He has a lot of knowledge from years of working on guitars and amps. He does things his own way, but I recommend you check out Wallys Guitar Garage

Agreed with previous guy. He’s crazy, used to be good. He’s mentally lost it. Cussed me out and chased me out of his store, because I was in a hurry, and didn’t want to hear what he had to say about my friends guitar. We already knew it wasn’t nice, I just trusted him to make it as decent as it could be. I’ve spent thousands of dollars there. This was my last time.....

Walked in there by mistake (looking for a bookstore) I ended up having a great conversation and meeting a impressive individual! Seeing Mr. Sanders with a customer I was in awe of his love, knowledge of guitars and music. You can tell he has passion for what he does and is a Master Of it.

Wally Sanders is not in business to make you happy or feel good about your guitar. He will critique you and tell you how your guitar is bad, which if you play music this is something you want/ should be used to. It is very obvious that this man knows what he is doing and has the years of experience to back it up. Would 100% recommend to someone who is looking for quality work for a good price. Would not recommend to someone who is too sensitive and cant take criticism.

Wally is one of those guys you love to hate. Hes arrogant, hes a know it all, hes brash... just ask anyone who has ever gone into his shop. Hes also amazing at what he does. I met him 20 years ago and back then we all called him The Guitar Nazi because there was a very strict protocol of how to act when you went in there. 1. Walk in. 2. Present your guitar 3. Take a mild amount of abuse 4. Do an about face and leave. 5. WAIT a long time before he calls you to tell you the guitar is finished. Not the best customer service in the world, but guess what? Hes not in the ass kissing business. He repairs guitars and amps, and hes damn good at it. I dont need conversation or a good brown-nosing. What I need is my guitar fixed RIGHT, THE FIRST TIME. Are others faster? Yes, but when you factor the time going back and forth getting it done right, there is no comparison. Wally knows what hes doing, and if youre above a good tongue lashing and being made to feel like a moron, then you simply dont have what it takes to have your guitar set up correctly. Ive been manufacturing guitars for ten years. Ive been playing for 25. In all of my years Ive never played a guitar quite like one that Wally set up. Call him whatever you want, but in my book he is the ZEN master, and we arent even on speaking terms. To this very day, every guitar I make has to pass the what would Wally think of this test. Hey Wally - youre the best at what you do and anyone who says anything else just doesnt get it. Peace.

I visited Wallys business on a more or less weekly basis for over 8 years with regard to the purchasing and repair of vintage amplifiers and at all times I found him to be a great person to deal with. The vintage amps I bought that he had resurrected were fantastic and still play well today. His prices were fair and he was very ethical in his dealings.Wally is a very good guitar player and a perfectionist with his work, which was something I really appreciated with my old amps. He is forthright with his views and some people coming in the door may take offence to that. However, in my experience if he stated that a guitar needed re stringing, fixing or even replacing, it was because that was genuinely the case. He is a very knowledgeable Luthier and I recommend Guitar Garage highly.

If you take the time to get to know Wally he can really help you get to the next level with your gear and playing. I dont always agree without everything he says, but as far as Im concerned he is an underappreciaded treasure and a valuable resource to the musicians in the area.

Wally does good work, and is very knowledgeable. but his people and relational skills are awful. I used him back in the day before there were other options, but now that there is another good McLuthier in town on the other end of 34th, thats the only place I go. Especially after Wally made fun of the guitars that I brought for him to work on. (these guitars are crap, but ill make them playable.) Unprofessional, bad temper, and a waste of my time. and, just before I finished this review, I decided to give him another chance before I actually wrote these things down. I went looking for a vintage amp. All he could do was badmouth other peoples work. Steer clear folks. Not a good choice.

Wally is the BEST at what he does! PERIOD. Also, in the 16 years that Ive been a customer, his prices on instruments and amps have ALWAYS been right at fair market value. His service prices (set-ups, repairs, etc) are a bargain. I went to Wallys store when I was 14 for the first time. He took my brand new Les Paul out of my hands and said it didnt play right and that I should let him set it up for $70. He also asked me what kind of amp i played and then told me that my amp wasnt any good and I should think about buying the old amp he had right there. I was insulted and thought he was crazy to say my guitar didnt play right so I left and didnt consider it. Fastforward 10 years: I had the opportunity to record at a big studio with pretty well known music producer. I decided to spend the $140 and have Wally set up my Les Paul and my Stratocaster. When I took the guitars home the next day, I plugged in and was ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHED! I couldnt stop playing them all night. They looked the same but were completely different instruments. They never went out of tune! Still dont!! They play effortlessly! I had been playing them daily for 10 years and thought they were fine. I could NOT believe the difference. Ive taken at least 4 more to him since then always with the same awesome resultsWally has also worked on a number of amps for me and is a very good tech. (he was right about my first amp too! It did suck and the amp he tried to sell me for $500 in 1998 sells for $4,000 or more today.) Hes also given me a lot of tips on how to sound better. If youre the least bit serious about playing music, dont get mad at Wallys opinions. Listen to him and consider that the advice is coming from decades of experience. But yeah, if you bring him a wal-mart guitar and ask him to put strings on it, you might get your feelings hurt when he says it will never be a good instrument.Had to write this because Id hate for somebody who could actually benefit from Guitar Garage to pass on it because of some reviews
