Lovely cheese shop that a friend recommended to me. We went by to grab sandwiches and got a bunch of other goodies. For sandwiches, I wish they had a couple more for vegetarians. But they said they could take meat off any sandwich and were down to swap the vegan cheese on one sandwich to a regular cheese for me, so that was great.Also got three cheeses - a spicy cheese with habanero and tequila, a goat cheese called afterglow, and a goat/sheep/cow milk cheddar aged two years. All were delicious.Would definitely recommend.

In you live in Madison or are only visiting, this is a must stop. The selection of Wisconsin cheeses is incredible, and were not talking the mass produced stuff. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, super friendly, and you can taste just about everything before buying. (Try the Marieka Smoked Gouda from Holland Family Farms, you will not be disappointed.)

For the Madisonian, Fromagination follows in the steps of Deb & Lolas and Krane & Rush. Truly the best cold sandwiches in Madison. If you are unfamiliar, you would be doing yourself a disservice by going anywhere else.

Fromagination is probably the best cheese shop I have visited. Their staff is very knowledgeable and they are always great about suggesting one or five different cheeses which all end up being wonderful. All of their cheese comes from local farmers and I always am happy to support buying local. I stop in everytime I am in Madison and if you are also heading to Madison WI, please put them on your list of places to go; you wont be disappointed. If you arent heading to Madison any time soon but want some really delicious cheese from local farmers; they also ship to their surrounding states. 🙂

Amazing shop with a huge selection of local cheese, plus lots of delightful things to accompany it - crackers, jam, tea and other things. I bought a bunch of little cheese ends so I can try a variety of things. The employees of the store are super friendly and will provide recommendations if you want.

Every time I visit Im greeted kindly and waited on patiently. The staff is VERY knowledgeable and seem to enjoy their jobs as well as helping me find what I want. Theyre taking precautions to protect staff and customers and I feel safe shopping even in the small store. I highly recommend adopting cheese orphans, which is buying the left over wedges of cheese from previous orders. This is a great way to try a bunch of cheese without adding to waste!

I was in Madison while on vacation from Indiana. We were passing through Wisconsin and we knew we had to get some cheese somewhere! Conveniently located next to the state capitol building (another place we wanted to see on our visit to Madison), Fromagination offers amazing some cheese and crackers! I believe we got the Colby with the Parmesan crackers. It was delicious! My family and I ate it while we drove through the Wisconsin countryside on our way to Minnesota. We also picked up a cheese cutting knife at Fromagination which doubles as both a nice souvenir of our stop in Madison and a high quality cheese knife in its own right! Overall, we were very impressed with Fromagination! If you’re passing through Madison and want some authentic Wisconsin cheese, come to Fromagination. You won’t be disappointed!

Finally check meet a cheesemonger off of your bucket list! The staff was incredibly friendly, well-informed, inclusive, and delightful. The cheese options were plentiful, with many cheeses from local areas and from away. Various other products for pairing were also available.

This is the second time I’ve come to Fromagination to buy a gift for someone. The associates are always very friendly and ready to help you pick out exactly what you’re looking for. They even took the time to educate me on how some different cheeses are made! I have left both times feeling excited to share my gift and also happy to try what I bought for myself! Wish the sandwiches were freshly made instead of pre-packed BUT my signature sandwich (turkey, Brie, and cranberry) was delicious! Enjoyed in their sidewalk patio.

We bought two types of recommended cheese from the extra pieces section along with rosemary and parmesan crackers. One cheese was supposed to taste like a mineral cave and it definitely did; it was like licking a rock. The other was bland. But the crackers were nice and the store was cute!

They used to have excellent sandwiches for a reasonable price. But they’ve gotten smaller and smaller, and they don’t put as much inside them anymore. Worse deal, worse food. 9 dollars for two slices of Brie isn’t worth it.

Fromagination is literally a place where dreams come true for cheese lovers. We aren’t from Madison but came by during a day trip last summer and completely fell in love. Not only do they have a wide selection of delicious cheeses (both local and international), they also have a knowledgeable and friendly staff, delicious lunch options, and adorable merchandise. Ive placed several orders to have cheese gift boxes delivered to family back home in Indiana and each time it is a HIT! Everything is packaged with such care and is delivered in a timely manner. I had a question about shipping this week and Ben, one of the employees, was super kind and helpful with helping me track down my order over the phone. My only wish is that shipping to Indiana could be free like some of the other neighboring states, but it is such a nice gift to send I find it 100% worth it!

I used to order their sandwiches all the time, but every time Ive tried to order within the past couple weeks (and Ive tried many many many times), Eatstreet says they are currently not accepting online orders. And yes, I was trying to order within their delivery hours Tues-Sat 11am-2pm. Not sure if theyve been forgetting to open their Eatstreet page, but Id love to be able to order their sandwiches again.

They know their cheese.My final request was for a unique Wisconsin variety, and was given a Chandoka. Ive just eaten it - it is delicious, and exactly as advertised. Sweet dreams are made of Cheese. I am absolutely obsessed with this place. You walk into a heaven. Was visiting family and knew I had to stop by and get some delicious local cheeses. Walked in and was welcomed with big smiles. They handed us some hot cider to drink while we looked around. 5 stars alone for the knowledge of the workers. The young guy behind the counter knew everything and anything there was to know about cheeses. I felt like I was getting schooled in cheese 101. He gave us loads of tastings and recommended pairings for us. We ended buying 6: Red Rock -aged cheddar, Bleu Mont Dairy, cave aged chandoka -Cow & Goat Mix(award winning), GranQueso, pleasant ridge reserve - best of show, Little Boy Blue. They are all beyond some of the best cheeses I have ever tasted in my life. Note: They will cut whatever size you want so dont worry about that. Not only do they sell cheese, they sell fruits, honey, nuts, dishes, and anything else you could possibly need for a perfect charcuterie platter. I would never go to Wisconsin and not stop here. Ill leave you with my one cheese joke:What music does cheese listen to?R & Brie........

Quite the cheese treat. Able to sample as many cheeses as desired. Great selection of Wisconsin made cheese. Plenty of choices of accompaniments for a delectable cheese board. Enjoyed a turkey sandwich, homemade chips and soda for lunch. They had a few tables outside or you could sit indoors.

Loved the Goenegreek gouda, Colby, Bellavitano Raspberry, Raclette Rotelli, Pleasant Ridge Reserve and more! Have a food trailer and made some yummy Mac and cheeses upon returning to FL. My customers were delighted with the special blends!!

Wonderful cheese shop and they let you sample whatever you would like to. Wait could be long as they give you their 100% attention while waiting on you. Also got to sample hot apple cider, honey and maple syrup. They also make speciality sandwiches which looks like to die for. Funky Friday from 3:30-6:30 is their happy hour. We definitely will be back.

Absolutely amazing little shop by the capital. Very neat atmosphere. Cheesemongers are very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. We got a selection of cheese and sandwich. Cranberry relish is so amazing. I always take my friends from out of State here for the experience. Everything there is good. Its just the matter of whether you are into the taste.

My online transaction with Fromagination was superb. I needed some mini bags of Treat nuts for some teacher gift baskets, and Fromagination was the only store I found who offered them. They arrived in the mail lightning fast (although I do live locally), and they were EXTREMELY well-packaged -- in a special sturdy carton with an ice pack, some pretty tissue paper, a full store menu, and a thank-you note. I called the store to check whether I needed to refrigerate the nuts, and the woman knew exactly what I was talking about and gave me an answer right away. And we received feedback from the teachers that the nuts were delicious. So while their treats are more on the expensive side, Fromagination definitely makes it worth your while! Ill be buying from them again when I need special gifts.

I really want to love this company, they seem friendly and have a great selection of cheese. But unfortunately their customer service and follow thru is lacking. I made an order online on Monday the 24th of August, it shipped on Tuesday the 25th, and it was supposed to arrive on the 27th but whoever inputted the shipping information on the label accidentally messed up one digit in my address (it was correct on my order) and gave FedEx the impossible task of delivering to an address that didn’t exist. So it went undelivered and spent the night on the truck in high 90 degree Florida weather. Confused at not receiving my cheese on time I realized their mistake but unfortunately the FedEx facility had closed for the day. I had to work early the next day and sent my wife to get it from the FedEx facility, but it was already on the truck attempting to be delivered again and she was told she would have to wait until the evening to get it when the truck returned. I called fromagination explaining the shenanigans and was told since it was their fault they would likely just be able to send me a replacement order, though they had to verify with their supervisor. I managed to pickup the order from the FedEx facility the evening of the 28th (Friday), the cheese was wet and quite smelly but I threw in the fridge just in case it might be salvageable. After going several days without hearing anything I called on Wednesday, 2 Sept, and was told they were sorry for the delay and they would be shipping my replacement order the next day. The next day came (now Thursday, Sept 3rd) and they called me saying they checked the shipping info, and saw that I had picked it up and to call them back which I almost immediately did and was told they were sorry for how FedEx handled my package (even though it wasn’t FedEx’s fault, which I explained) but fromagination wasn’t going to do anything, my cheese should be fine and I just might need to scrape my cheese if it didn’t look or smell good (all this despite mandating 2 day shipping to any zone above a 3, Florida is a 5 btw). But I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt and opened up my cheese which most of them were good to go, with the exception of a Gouda I had which was covered in mold (and not the good kind). I called them on Friday the 4th of Sept telling them this, and was told they would likely be able to ship out a replacement Gouda but I haven’t heard back since and it’s Tuesday the 8th. Today I went to eat some of my cheddar sampler pack I got and most likely due to all the above factors it too has bad mold growing on it. I’ve ordered through this company before and the cheese was excellent and held for a very long time, so it is very unfortunate that in this instance their customer service and follow through is so sub par

Huge variety of cheeses very good

Bought a gift basket to be sent to my family on the east coast since they couldnt enjoy WI cheese with me this year. I had a weird shipping issue, but luckily Fromagination had great customer service and was able to resolve it very quickly and got the cheese to my family ASAP. Will definitely be ordering from them again for gifts.

So I had a really hard time choosing which cheese shop to go to before I caught my plane out of Madison back in February. It was my first time in Wisconsin and you know you have to bring some cheese home. So I stopped by here a few hours before my flight. This place was gorgeous inside, the staff would cut up little sample for you on a cutting board of any cheese you might want to buy. And they took there time to make sure you got what you needed. They were so informative and kind. Now the price was a little steep, but it was well worth every penny! My favorites, Pepper Jack Goat Cheese, Mountain Cheddars, and the Red Wine flavored cheese. I almost wish I lived in Wisconsin so I could come back every week! Go here if youre in town no place beats Fromagination!

Great selection, a touch spendy

The beef sandwich was really good. The selection of cheese is amazing! I usually walk out with a lot more cheese than I thought I would.

Fromagination has excellent cheese, however the service in terms of long distance shipping of orders is poor (shipping to California). I have ordered from Fromagination three times since 2018. Each time I had to contact Fromagination to see if my order had been shipped and to ask them to email me shipping information. Generally, everything gets resolved and I have my order within a week.However, this year they were behind on orders. I understand that 2020 has been a difficult year. I placed an order on December 15th. I called a week later and had a nice conversation with the owner and was told there was a delay, but my order would be going out. My order did not make the Christmas list. I knew there were delays so I assumed I would receive information on my order Monday after Christmas on December 28th. Still no email, or information. Again, I had to call Fromagination (December 29th). I asked for a refund. The refund process was started without issue. I also received an apology for the inadequate distribution service.I do love the cheese but the consistent hassle with order shipment makes this a disappointing experience. Fromagination needs to assess and advance their process for long distance distribution of cheese orders. Their web page needs to reflect order processing and tracking once an order is received. The customer should not have to constantly call to check on an order. My review is based solely on the quality of the service.

Amazing service! Ian was so helpful! He found the most comparable option to what we were originally looking for and also introduced us to cheeses we never knew wed love! Highly recommend. The shop has so many really great options. Free shipping to Iowa, so Ill be ordering from them in the future!

Ordered a social distancing cheese box for my grandma for her 80th birthday. The estimated shipping projected it to get there the day after her birthday (5 business days after Id placed the order, my fault for not ordering sooner) but it ended up getting there in 2 business days so shell be able to enjoy it as part of her birthday! She said it was wrapped up beautifully upon arrival and everything has been delicious. Fromagination really did an amazing job in making my grandmas birthday special and I especially feel like they went above and beyond to get it to her so quickly even though Id selected standard shipping. Always pleased with their service and products but this instance made me especially grateful for Fromagination and its wonderful staff.

Their signature sandwich is probably the best sandwich in town. I have also had a fair share of their cheese and it is delicious as well. But really, I go for the sandwich and the sweet potato chips. Their other sandwiches are good as well, but for me, you just cannot beat the signature sandwich.

This place is super neat!My fiancé and I visited this small place to in Madison, WI. She saw the great reviews and we were itching to try some great local cheese of Wisconsin cheese masters!Store has cheeses ranging from Wisconsin, Holland and even California.We tried the Signature Sandwich and the MAC and Cheese (with spices, bread crumbs and herbs). The fiancé loved the sandwich with the nice combination of the sweetness of the spread/sauce the mild cheese and the thick bread. I personally liked the Mac and cheese more as I could really taste the cheese melting on top of the pasta.Definitely a place to stop for a quick bite and browse.

A great place to get WI-made gifts when the summer farmers market is over. Great selections of cheese, sausage, spreads, and they even have chocolate and loose leaf tea. I had a sandwich and the flavors were great, but too bready for me. But I took off the top bread and made it open face and then it was delightful.

I was recently in Madison on business and was unable to get away from my meetings to do any souvenir shopping. I definitely wanted cheese, so I did a quick Google search and discovered Fromagination.Im familiar with the world of cheeses; less so with Wisconsin cheeses. I spoke with Andrew who walked me through the local options. He was very knowledgeable and patient with all of my questions.We selected 3 cheeses which we had packaged and delivered to my hotel room without incident. Normally Id leave the packaging behind to save room in my luggage, but this was so nice I kept it as is.I know its not the most exciting review; but thats the point. I received exactly what I wanted without any stress. And I avoided the trama of coming home to my wife after a business trip without a gift!Thanks to Andrew and Fromagination! Highly recommended.

The selection of cheese here is amazing. They have many things you cant find elsewhere as well as popular varieties. The staff is very knowledgeable, patient and helpful without being overbearing. Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese... If you are familiar with the Monty Python cheese shoppe skit, then rest assured, this is NOTHING like that! The only way it is similar is that some of the obscure cheeses you hear referenced in the Python skit may actually be found at Fromagination. For a cheese lover, this shop is paradise! They truly have an amazing selection and variety of cheeses to select from along with other things to accompany whatever you take home - including some meats, crackers, sweets, serving utensils, etc. If it has anything to do with cheese or serving cheese, they are likely to have it. The staff are VERY friendly and helpful and REALLY know their stuff. The wide variety of cheeses they have in stock on any given day is absolutely incredible and ranges from little-known, artisan cheese from Wisconsin to both rare and popular imported cheeses. The shop is located on the capitol square in downtown Madison, so there is no parking immediately on site, but there are plenty of parking structures and surface lots within a block or two of capitol square. The shop is handicap accessible, but it is a very small shop with much of the space taken up by counters and refrigerator/display cases for the cheese, so it could be a bit challenging to navigate with a wheelchair, stroller, etc. On busy days downtown (for instance, farmers market days), it has a tendency to become a bit crowded, so you might want to avoid on the busiest days at the capital (especially if you have a tendency to be claustrophobic). However, ultimately, if you are seeking a wide variety of high quality cheeses to select from, this is the place to be! It is one of my favorite shops in town! Besides, what could be a more appropriate place to have a cheese shop than the Wisconsin state capitol? If youre in Madison and you want cheese, this is the place to go.

My first visit to Madison. I wanted to get some good cheese to take back and since I heard about Fromagination from my friends and it was walking distance from my hotel, decided to stopped by. Excellent customer service and I would go every time Im in Madison just because of that. Steve helped me and he should either be a owner or a highly motivated employee. His pleasing manners and general attitude made me want to buy regardless of the price,. Quality of cheese was so good and Im glad i went to this store.

I recently was asked to pick up a work gift at Fromagination. They were wonderful to work with on choosing a time to drop in. I also needed to do this after hours and bring my four year old assistant along. She is notoriously picky eater but hoping to work dinner into this errand I was able to convince her to split a sandwich with me. The Pasture Harvest was a winner! The kid ate half and I was able to eat real food! THANK YOU FROMAGINATION!!! An absolute game changer for us!
