Smooth cold brew — just as I had hoped. Love that they are using a local coffee roaster too! The donut was satisfying. The dough isn’t too sweet, but the glaze brings the sweetness and melts in your mouth. The woman working was patient, kind, and helpful. Looking forward to more from Crave.

I was excited to try this place but was very disappointed. The coffee was good but the breakfast burrito is pretty small for the price and has no flavor. The bacon in it was stringy and tough. Honestly, I couldn’t finish it. I was actually hoping to go for donuts but they only had 4 and they were all glaze. This is a small thing but because donut was in their name, I was hoping to have a wider selection. I came in the morning when it wasn’t busy and was told that they don’t have any indoor seating and wouldn’t for a few days even though no one else was in there and I saw many people in there the day before. This was disappointing because I picked this place since it was dine in. I checked on google afterwards and saw a green check mark for inside seating. I was confused why they weren’t allowing seating and kinda got the impression the workers didn’t want me there. Honestly, I don’t see myself going back. I’d rather get take out from short stack or somewhere if it’s that kind of place for those kind of prices. The coffee was pretty good but nothing to write home about.

Giving this place 3 stars mainly because the donuts were not good. I got a glazed donut and it was very chewy and the flavor was off, didnt even finish it and I love donuts. However the coffee here is great! I also got a breakfast burrito which was good but nothing Id go back for. The coffee was definitely the highlight.

Great coffee and good donuts. The filled ones were the best, they even had an Old Fashioned Donut. If youre looking for an alternative to Green Bush thats not as crowded with better coffee give Crave a try.

This is the only chai latte Ive had in Madison that is remotely spicy enough, and somehow also not too sweet! Four stars for the wait time and high price, but I dont think its NOT worth the price. The apple fritter was really good.

Review Continued >>> (2/2)It seemed like they were still carving out a niche. I thought of a few ideas while inside. Being a small space, I can see it as a great spot for travellers to chat it up with the owners or locals; especially given their warm Midwestern hospitality. This is exactly what I witnessed when a couple from New York was there. One might say it’s suited well for commuters being near to a bus stop. I would imagine some sort of donut/coffee package or punch card would be a great idea. The other idea I had was testing with the hours. I realize that nothing is ideal in the pandemic and I know that you can’t open 24 hrs, but I couldnt help but notice the hours were only 8am to 3pm. Typically you would expect a coffee shop to open earlier. I wonder if you would be able to grab more commuters opening earlier. Additionally, I had the thought that this could make for an interesting evening cafe. I wonder what later hours on a Saturday would look like when you consider the location is near a lot of bars. I bet you could get some hungry college kids looking for donuts. Something to think about or at the very least test.Overall 5/5 stars especially, especially given their drive during this whole quarantine thing. The hospitality and donuts beat out any very much minor parts that I noticed. As you can tell, I’m a bit of a critic so don’t get too discouraged. I decided to write a long and annoyingly critical review not because I was upset, but because there was a lot of great energy from the owners. I figure I would pay it forward. Hope I didn’t dissuade anyone from visiting. I only recommend stopping in for anyone reading this far. Can’t wait to visit again.

Came here for the espresso and was not disappointed! Received a well balanced shot as good or better than any other place in Madison. They source coffee from JBC, arguably one of the top specialty roasters in the country. Didn’t stay long, but a great cafe atmosphere to enjoy as well.

If you’re going to have “Donuts” in the title of your business and then charge $2-3 dollars for them - at least make them good. The donuts were small and had the flavor of your run of the mill grocery store donut for 4x the price. My wife and I also ordered iced coffees and somehow our two drinks tasted vastly different. Mine was light and almost lemony - while my wife’s was a bit more dense and visibly darker. Overall the experience was not worth the premium charge over a gas station coffee and donuts.**Edit - call me a coffee newb, I guess we ordered an iced coffee and a cold brew (I believe I incorrectly assumed they were the same thing) which I guess explains the difference in taste! Thanks for the explanation in the response!

Rich and flavorful Donuts, Fast service/perfect for quick stops, and a Midwestern-friendly social spot.My review is detailed for anyone traveling to Madison and planning out their itinerary of places to visit or for anyone genuinely bored. I find, the longer the reviews are, the more likely you are to investigate a place which is what I very much intend to suggest because I think it’s a great place overall! This morning my goal was to find any cafe open for dine-in during this quarantine. Luckily, I found this place and immediately came to visit. I overheard the owner, and they had recently opened up right in the middle of the pandemic. When you commit your savings, time, and finally get the right space near Madison’s downtown, you can’t say no to opening up. When I visited, the owner’s parents were visiting and they were removing their boards on the windows as well. I thought to myself, “Here are the leaders in the community. Closing everything down and boarding up the city is not healthy for anyone.” Even if it’s for the survival of the shop, just know that there are some people in Madison that take notice of these things and are very pleased with your optimistic actions. These actions also speak volumes of their commitment and work ethic.I ordered a regular coffee just black and the classic donut. Seemed regularly priced. No complaints there. Whenever I visit a new place, I like to order their classic dish or whatever it is they make the best. I wish something like that had stood out on the menu when I visited. I absolutely loved the donut. You can tell that it was some sort of homemade recipe with a distinct flavor; namely yeast, I believe. That’s what you want in a donut, and I think the owners are quite knowledgeable on the culinary side. Such a relief to find a place not purchasing from Sysco. Ever notice how many restaurants/cafes have the same taste? That’s Sysco supplying everything. I.E., same bulk flour, same bulk eggs. A lot of places sell out to Sysco to make higher profits, but lose any authentic taste. This place appeared to be far from that method. To me the coffee was not fantastic. It tasted bitter and burnt. Not my cup of tea. I read another review about that being a style similar to Starbucks or a traditional review. Understandable if that is the way they want to go, or perhaps it was just a bad batch. You can’t knock a place for those reasons. I might try the coffee again. Service was quick, you could tell that it seemed like the employees were still getting used to the routine which felt cute in a way. I have no doubt everything will feel more natural as time goes on.Originally my plan was to work on some things via laptop. When I arrived, the owners and their parents were visiting/helping out. I couldn’t help but observe and enjoy the moment. You can tell that they were excited and happy to help the place. Good for them. My advice is listen to your mom on some things (lol), she seems very intuitive, good natured, and very much a people person. I didn’t find the place to be the perfect spot for working on a laptop. The furniture was rigid and not inviting to sit for long periods. Wasn’t what I was looking for, but that’s all fine to me and possibly intended in order to keep people from lingering. Also consider a small shop doesnt have the budget to splurge on comfy couches, etc. The room seemed bare. Here is where I would recommend some color. It doesn’t have to be like every coffee shop with 50 paintings on the wall, I just noticed it seemed fairly blank and nothing caught my eye as particularly unique. It could be anything, just something to look at if you are waiting in line. The view outside of the windows was great. I don’t think any place can beat State St. or the lake, but there is a nice intersection to watch.Review Continues >>> (1/2)
