We have Coffee at Willy Street Co-Op every day at 4pm. My Husband is British so its tea time. We havent seen any Tea Houses in Madison and your Coffee is very good so we make due. Our only problem is, why do all the Coffee Houses in Madison close at 3:00? The Coffee culture is strong in California! Here not so much. Thanks for the good Coffee!

Willy St Co-op is the bees knees! I can get all kinds of high quality produce, non-dairy items, good tofu, house made treats, good meats, and my favorite body and health products in one place. I shop Willy street and Middleton locations. Middleton has a bigger health/beauty section. Can’t beat the original location for good vibes! Thank you Willy St Co-op I heart you!

I was a bit torn on my rating. On one hand it was an extremely pleasant experience and all the produce was wonderful. On the other hand it was quite expensive if you don’t have the co-op. If you live in Madison it’s an amazing place with wonderful workers and reasonable prices. If you’re just in the area like we were, it’s still very nice but could be a bit expensive for some fresh produce. It is organic however!

I love the co=op! I have been a member here for a couple years and love the atmosphere, ethics, and quality of the food. It is a bit on the pricier side and I imagine if you have kids it might be out of budget, but for a single person its perfectly fine!Theres a bit of an elephant-in-the-room situation at the East co-op with the panhandling that occurs at the exits. Im very sympathetic to these folks and will usually give them whatever change I have, but since covid sometimes dont have any. Theres one person in particular who can get a big aggressive. The last time I visited the co op this person approached me asking for cash, I apologized and said I had to go. I think by my voice they realized Im transgender, and proceeded to start yelling slurs and me and following me and harassing me for some time. I know theyre just trying to get by, but I dont feel comfortable coming visiting anymore :( another friend of mine has also been harassed. Theres not really a good solution, which sucks, because I miss the espresso brownies like mad. If you dont come on foot I imagine its easier to avoid!

I love the coop. This is pretty much the only place I shop, unless forced to go elsewhere. Personally, the not so hot fruit/veggie section is my fav. Never know what I will find there. It is also important, for me, to spend as much money as I can locally. In keeping it local... Higher wages.. Better standard of living for all. I will happily buy that dented tomato :)

Review №59

One that is famliar with the Co-op culture long before it was trendy and hip, and had a more cooperative mission. I found this place too punkish, hipster-heavy and far overpriced with lower quality of food, based on my experience with the hundreds of natural foods stores I have been to. The quality of food here is medicore. As I was checking out, the lady had to check in my bakery bag, even though I told her what I had, and she still could not figure it out, after how many of these pastries and muffins have you seen checking customers out?!! Also, I really dislike cashiers, feeling and opening, and looking into the bags like that because it is professional, often damages the baked goods, and is asinine. This is a great place if you like snooty and rude people because I buy organic foods shipped from local CSA farms, organic from Mexico is the norm and imported from Cali also, which without CA, most of the co-ops (and grocery stores would cease to exist).Ran into customers who think they are the bee knees, and the clueless, uninformed or misinformed employees who could not answer my questions. This place is overpriced, organic and local (overused buzzword that has taken on a whole different meaning)...foodstuffs and drinks, that is now entrenched in the Co-op world of profit and sales, and charging prices and catering to people who are weathiler. Meaning it does excludes poorer, low-class health conscious people, yes, they do exsist (even with low-income discounts), who can shop there.Yeah, there is good food here, if you can afford, and in reality, being the food business for decades, the quality of foodstuffs, even organic, is below average and not as good as people believe it to be. If you really want to eat locally, living in an all year-round temperate climate conducive to growing foods year round is ideal, and away from where most of soils are not posioned and mineral depleted. I like organic and better grown foods also, sadly it is way more expensive..All-in-all, my first experience here was not very pleasant and probably do not fit in, anymore, with the co-op way of doing business..Too liberalized and full of hipsterish music, community-justice and thinking that everyone can have affordable access to food at premium prices...If you are on a budget, you cannot shop here all the time, and can easily drop $100 and not get a whole ton, and food-stamps (SNAP) only go so far within a month.

Hands down one of the best co-ops in the country. High quality produce that lasts many days in the fridge with bargain bins for the produce thats a little past due. Wide variety of fresh meat, cheeses, and bulk foods, soaps, teas, and spices. The large footprint helps give them space for the variety, but the store is also clean, bright, well-operated, and staffed by friendly, knowledge people. Coffee bar, juice bar, olive bar...I find myself coming here whenever were in town because our local coop (same chain, different city) just doesnt compare. Im a big fan of holistic and natural health and medicine, and this store has it all; normally your best bet is to go to Woodmans, or even Whole Foods, and pick your way through the store to find all the organic/local/environmentally friendly/vegan/etc. options, but Willy St. Co-Op ONLY carries those options. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable, and the co-op aspect is affordable and practical. Everything is a little pricey but I love this place. The local and organic food sold there always tastes so good. I love how they try to stock with as much stuff from Madison and the local area as they can. The food on the hot bar is always good and fresh. The barbecue is the best! They have an area where you can sit and eat your food too. There is also a community like room that I think you can rent out and use for events. Most of the time there is someone playing beautiful live music outside the door. Watch out for the people asking for money at the entrance. It gets really annoying when you live next door, go in there almost every day and its always the same person asking for money. I work two jobs to hard to just give it away to someone who does not want to contribute to society.

Willy Street Coop is a great grocery store. They gave excellent choices for people with food allergies or who want to eat less processed foods. They have vegan baked goods for reasonable prices giant cookie 1.25, a tasty ready made food and salad section. You can bottle your own kombucha on a tap. They have a pressed juice and coffee bar. There is an indoor and outdoor sitting area. Unlike many natural food stores they have single drink beverages for reasonable prices like .50 to .70 for a can of flavored water or natural soda which you can then enjoy in the sitting area. Parking can be an issue as can traffic.
