Not a bad guy, but business is kind of shady, he did get me back in the water and saved the vacation planned For the week.but he showed up with missing tools and charged for the time he had to go out and get them. When he was done, he was suppose to come back for a missing screw they dropped and a bigger tie wrap and never did.150 an hour for labor plus parts. Just be aware of the time ⏲️. A 4 hour job was really a 2 hour job. If he had come prepared
Johns ideas on how run a business, set accurate expectations, or deliver on his promises are poor at best. Moreover, he may have the gall to ask for immediate payment on unfinished work, and paint YOU as a bully when you get frustrated (six weeks later) because he wont return to finish the job.Heed the reviews you see here. Then look elsewhere.
I wish I read the latest reviews before I used Kahuna. When he had a regular crew doing the installs they did an excellent job installing LED lights i/s my boat. BUT john and son were not up to the task with a bad attitude to boot. Missing and broken parts. work done but not asked for a bill the greatly surpassed the estimate. When I complained he told me what a bad customer I was and never completed the work. How hard is it to install FM Radio. Antenna, and Amp ? I will never use him again. I am in the proccess of recovering from his work now
I wouldnt trust this guy to install batteries in a flashlight. Im having to get all his work redone and having to replace some of my electronics because they got fried. Thank goodness the weather stinks and too rough to go out.
Good. Knowledgeable people. Just wish they were not so busy.
John was recommended my a local charter captain, whom also happen to be his landlord. The jo was a $25K electronics update and install. All garmin and top of the line. I am an owner/operator of a charter fishing business locally. I scheduled this time off between charter trips, there was a budget, install time and the terms were discussed and known. This was a 3 day install. I did more research than what I knew to understand what was happening. I was present for all of the install and what I learned along the way. It was in my back yard. I have video cameras to document everything. My install was day 1 for a speaker wiring guy. First day on the job was here you go on my charter boat. I heard the conversation. I was more concerned than I have ever been for every reason. The tear down down went on schedule. I was available to move, remove or make the install easier. It was a 3 day job. That went well.....My brother is Johns catch phrase. He wants you to feel like his friend. When you hear this, you are about to go for a ride....2 1/2 weeks later I had no working gps, bottom machine or autopilot. Lots of critical components were wired wrong and I ran my charters off a hand held gps device. It was all excuses... I have the internet and researched why and how things were not working. What I found was my reality. I scheduled days off to run him and his staff out on my boat with a garmin rep on the phone to diagnose why my stuff didnt work.He didnt want to remove a freshwater tank I offered to remove to properly mount a deep water transducer near the center line of my hull, which was also below an intake port upstream for my toilet. This was ALL discussed way before a single hole was drilled, but he assured me it was ok. It wasnt. Common sense or garmin factory training would tell you this is never an option. After the fact, I removed the intake and got it working. Problem is, my transducer is 4 feet or more from my keel and if there is any condition short of calm it just is useless fue to the fulcrum point. Common sense and I tried to prevent this. Ok. I fought this battle and made no ground.I warranted ALL OF MY INSTALLED ELECTRONICS through west marine. John said I spend over a million dollars here annually. If anything goes wrong I get priority of ver whatever and it gets resolved immediately. He told me he does so much volume that it is an instant fix if I bought the protection plans. I always buy the protection plans on anything electrical on my boat. My plan total was maybe $1500 on warranty stuff. Totally legit on cost to protection.I had lots of problems after the install. I worked out most on my own. Thats on me. Thats ok. I had a head gps unit grenade well within warranty. John ghosted me in every way possible. I left a ton of voicemails and text messages. I went to west marine with my paperwork. Kahuna John Boat Wiring bought the protection plan and nothing happened without his authorization. I paid him on his account to warranty a $25K install on his account on my charter boat and he dumped me. I went through west marine and they were worthless. Nothing they could do. I was chartering 2 drips a day with no bottom machine for 3 weeks.I contacted garmin factory and went through them to make an exchange. It went wrong before it went right. It all could have been prevented if John ran his business as not a drug addict. It took 3 weeks to get a $25K 3 day install done. I paid a guy $100 hour that has never worked on boat wiring before, My boat was his first day on the job. It took 3 weeks before I got my electronics working. When my warrantied electronics failed, it took another 3 weeks with no response from John. I had to completely bypass him to get a result, which was also trial and error.I never caught a break in my install. It was the worst case scenario for every interaction for weeks and weeks and weeks. He was cancer on my boat and I curse his name often. There is not enough words to describe how bad this install went. Impossibly awful.
Michael and his young partner saved our vacation. It was the second, and last, day of mini season. My boat was not starting and I could not figure out why. Michael and his young friend were there within an hour and got my boat running. We ended up having a great afternoon dive and added 12 more lobster to our count. Great, friendly attitude and very generous pricing! Outstanding service!!!
There are not many people like John left in the world. His professionalism and knowledge really came in handy when we needed our boat to be fixed while we were in the keys. John and his trusty helper came to the rescue early the next day after we had called. He even went above and beyond by calling west marine to pull the parts I would need to get before they closed. He was very prompt and kind. I would absolutely recommend him for anything boat related. Shoot, Id even take him out to lunch next time Im down there. He really is an amazing guy! Thank you John!
John was very professional and helpful. My husband and I were having boat trouble at the boat launch and John and Shawn came to the boat launch to help us. They were there in about 10 minutes and had us on our way in another 10 minutes. Super nice and knowledgeable. We are very grateful for their help and would highly recommend them.
Great company, fast response and unbelievable customer service. Highly recommend!!!
Shared a mechanic with us. The people at Mercury couldn’t help, these guys diagnosed over the phone. Outstanding service, we got to spend the day on the water...😎😎😎
I needed custom cut and crimped battery cables on a Saturday and I called and they came and made them for me between jobs that day within two hours. Very nice folks and high quality work.
The guy told me several times he would be at the boat ... I waited several times all day .. he never showed even after I spoke with him and said yes he would be there ... led me on for months .. saying he would be there asap ... guy is a bullcrap artist ...
