Great buyers experience. Treated really well
Came in to test drive a few cars, the sales manager was very straightforward. He told us what we should expect and didnt beat around the bush or charge us any hidden fees. If you go to a used car lot, you should expect used cars. Come here if youre looking for a cheap beater with a heater!
Usually Im hesitant with used car lots but Luke was great. He was straight forward man. I put a deposit on a 17 vw jetta, he held it for me. Gave me a great price for a great car. When I need another vehicle I will definitely be giving him a call
I don’t ever write bad reviews but this one totally deserves it! I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! Bought a Terrain there 6 months ago and has been nothing but a money pit! Was told straight to our face they just put a bunch of work into it and literally just changed the timeing chain, turns out that was all LIES and they have no proof of any of the so called work they supposed just did after getting this car home. The car is now on it’s way to the junk yard! Their car’s are also pricey for total junk! They also have very BAD customer service! Wasn’t one single friendly face and asking questions really seemed to put them off.
I went to go look at a truck they had for sale and asked the guy for a ticket to show the bank as I was already pre approved. I then told Luke I needed to make a quick call so I would be back with the money to purchase the truck and within 15min of leaving they sold the truck underneath me. What a low ball move to make you should be ashamed of how you do business....
Vehichles were overpriced and had many serious issues. I wouldnt trust them to make it home
I considered buying form this dealership but upon looking over several of their vehicles I saw the black spray-paint on the rust of many the cars. Not all were bad but they clearly dont have integrity. I spoke with one of the sales mangers; nothing was said about the poor condition of vehicles.
Friendly helpful people and affordable cars.
I have been buying cars from Hawkeye Auto for the past 10 years just bought a SUV from Luke has been a great car and they are honest and straight forward about their cars I will keep going there for my future purchases.
Just purchased our 5th used car from here!! This place is honest and straight forward about what they sell and we will continue going back!! Have had nothing but good luck here and real honest prices!!
Bought my car from them and just had a great experience
In and out. No pressure sales and right to the point. Great experience getting our beater with a heater like we wanted.
Sell good and best used cars in cedar rapids.
I bought a Corolla from here, great dealer named Clint very helpful and kind guy. I wanted to put my own rims on the car he got me set up with discount tire at a cheap price. Takes his time with you and lets you do things at your pace when purchasing. He made everything very simple! I would recommend this place!
Nice salesman.
We found a great vehicle for our niece at Hawkeye Auto. This is a no frills dealership which is fine by me. Does it really matter if the car has been detailed? No. Does it matter if it has a few scratches or dings? No, not in my book. Our sales guy was by himself and still made time for us, and he was VERY busy. They have a lot of great low priced cars, and they tell you the truth the first time you ask, So, how much can you come down on this price? I love that!!!!! Thanks Hawkeye Auto! My niece has a great new for her, used vehicle!!!
No Hassel buying
I just bought a fully loaded Acadia from this dealer a couple months ago. It needs a new transmission that costs $4-5k. The dealer told me when I bought it that they offer no warranty and no guarantees, now I know why. If they would have disclosed that there were trouble codes for the transmission in the system I would have never bought it and you shouldn’t either.
Great place to buy a reliable used vehicle
Rude employees dirty nasty vehicles paints over rust
Went to buy a car here and test drive several vehicles and found one I liked. Told them I had one other vehicle to test drive across town. Went to my credit union to get the financials handled and called before I left the credit union to make sure the vehicle was there. Was not even 10 minutes after I had called that I arrived to the dealership, cash in hand to purchase the vehicle. Salesman said he took a deposit after he had spoke to me and then would not sell me the vehicle.Kinda dumb to turn down the person who will pay for a person who will possibly pay. After reading all this stuff, I won’t be going back.
Rude rude rude disrespectful
Bought a truck for 1300 ran good still going
Purchased a car from Hawkeye Auto a while back and it didnt even make it home. Blown head gasket. My father-in-law (against my advice) bought a truck for $7000. A few weeks later, nothing but problems. I would NEVER,EVER recommend purchasing a vehicle from this place. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!
Christian was up front about the used vehicles Hawkeye Auto had for sale. No frills lot with no ridiculous fees, made for reasonable price on my purchase. I would buy from here again and recommend.
I bought my car there
Excellent service, Excellent value for used vehicles, I have purchased 3 vehicles from here and recently my girlfriend had purchased her’s here. Will be back again for my next used vehicle. Thanks for the great experiences.
Very courteous staff.
Bought a car here last year for $6000. The car appeared to be in good condition upon purchase, very clean. We had to put a new transfer case in it a couple weeks later for $2000. The leaking transfer case was hidden upon purchase with a bit of silicone to seal the leak temporarily. The car barely made it home to my driveway before losing its transmission fluid. In the past year we have sunk an additional $2000 into repairs, and now the engine needs to be replaced. We purchased a replacement car, and now are needing to scrap this piece of junk, and down almost $10,000. Stay away from this place! Or if not, know that you get what you get and dont throw a fit.
I recently bought a car from Christian. He, along with other staff, were very personable and upfront with everything! I would recommend Hawkeye Auto to anyone in need of a vehicle!
Best car purchase experience! No hassle/pressure from sales people and were able to test drive on our own. Traded our car in and got a great car for a great deal. Quickest car purchase...once we decided to buy the car, we were in and out in less than 30 minutes! I highly recommend them!
Got a car this month from hawkeye needed timing chain fixed 2k$ for that now it will not go in reverse it may be transmision... 4k for car 2k for belt then 3k for transmission. Will not recommend thease guys to anyone
Had a good experience bought a van from here great running vehicle but had dash lights come on the next day luckily it was nothing major
I had the honor to work with Luke. He was fair and honest. Gave me more for my trade than I thought I would get. I got a rust free 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. It had some issues, but nothing major. Luke made a hassle free and fun experience. I have never really had a relaxed experience till Luke. I understand I am buy a used car for a very low price and dont expect perfection. If you want a 900.00 car, expect problems to rise. Thanks Again Luke and Hawkeye Auto. This second purchase was as good as my first with the business.
Im pretty sure this place has to be a front for something... They seem to just buy any car from an auction and put it right on the lot. A real business does small cheap things to maximize their profit, this place does nothing. They dont vacuum their cars out for crying out loud. Ive seen cars loaded up with bottles and wrappers from previous owners. They wont change a spark plug or hood latch wire... Things that anyone would do to sell a car. I asked a staff person about the condition of things on the lot and was told basically what do expect at the price? I think anyone that runs a legit car lot would bother spending a half hour cleaning and fixing cheap important things to move cars for maximum price. Like previous reviews have said, this place doesnt care one bit about selling cars, which is pretty off for a car lot.
Very pleased with the 2005 Honda Accord I got here!
Great experience. Luke was very helpful, and the SUV I bought seems to be in great condition.
Huge selection of used cars and trucks. Great prices and they are willing to negotiate. I have purchased 4 cars from here. No problems with purchase or product.
I have dealt with Luke fot the last 9 years. He is fair and honest. The prices are fair and the quality of the vehicle is worth what you pay. I have bought all my vehicles from Hawkeye Auto, not one complaint with any.
Large selection of cars, for a variety of price ranges.I went to test drive a car with a check engine light on, and took it to the nearest auto zone to try and read the codes and it showed up that the dealership had tried clearing them. We walked in with the paper print out and that’s when the salesman decided to tell me the problems. Sketch business practices. Be careful!
Christian was very helpful!
2013 Chrysler 200 is in good condition so far since buying the vehicle two years ago but the one thing about this place I can’t stand is the customer service. Terrible. I called multiple times when I bought the car and asked for the spare key to be mailed. They said they would mail it. Never have and never did. Kind of shady.
Went in traded car for a pickup for my daughter. Yet another great deal. Think this is our 6th dealing with them. Luke is great to deal with.
Price and honesty my daughter got a car for 2000 last year and still going today with a little minor break work..
Luke is good salesman and very easy to work with
You can trust Hawkeye. They only fix what needs to be fixed. The pricesthey charge are reasonable. Its not cheap, but much less expensive thangoing to a dealership. The point is you are paying less, but the quality ofwork is comparable. Also, you are talking to the owner or the mechanicdoing the work not to a service writer on commission. This review basedon Hawkeye Automotive Lake Zurich, IL not Hawkeye Auto Marion, IA.
DO NOT trust Christian! Bad experience! Flat out lied to us and put my son who is a vulnerable Vet in an unsafe car. We know we bought a used vehicle and we were told that it had one particular issue that we had planned on getting fixed. But we were told it was safe to drive it to get it fixed. NOT the case! Now my mechanic finds a dozen major different things on it that needed fixed costing more than the value of the car. Do not waste your money here and they have a horrible reputation in that area after I asked around after the fact.
Ive been buying cars from here for 10 years and always have had great luck! Ask for luke he as always been fair and always been honest about any issues and always recommended taking the car to a mechanic if I wanted. Would highly recommend this place. I see these bad reviews and I think this people buy 1000 cars and expect it to run. Like a 20000 car . you get what you pay for.. Hawkeye auto is the place to go if ur looking for a fair and honey deal
I bought a car a week ago and it only ran for a tank of gas. I was told by the salesman that it was a good running car. There are multiple things wrong with the engine which will likely cost more than what I paid for the car to have fixed. When I called to talk to the guy that sold me the car he said it was sold as is and wouldnt do anything about it. I could tell that hes had the same conversation over and over with other people because it sounded rehearsed. They are crooks.
We have used Hawkeye Automotive since it first opened. Matt is carrying on the excellent service and commitment to honesty that has kept us coming back. We know we can always trust every technician to do their best for us.
Bought a car from their three weeks ago they told me it was a great car. Second week of owning it the transmission is in need of a total overhaul plus i still dont have the title for it. They have done nothing to make it right. Bad business and suggest going somewhere else. Now im getting a response from the owner and hes saying they tried offering me something. No! No offer was made. Exact quote from your salesman was were bouncing around the idea of maybe giving my old car back. That isnt an offer thats a suggestion and you all expect me to foot the bill for all the towing. Again all suggestions and no offer of any kind has been made. I shouldnt have to eat the bill for everything. Maybe the owner should be in more contact with his salesman.
Called and asked about a 2002 Avalanche they had in stock. They said it ran well and is in good shape. I drove several hours to look at it. It ended up being a piece of crap. Good shape huh?? Heres the list of problems after a 5 minute test drive: Front shocks are shot - bounces around big time - unsafe to drive: pulls to the left - alignment obviously off: pulls to the left when braking - obvious brake problem and unsafe to drive - both mirrors not even attached - just barely sitting of the mount hanging on by the wires, and they wouldnt adjust up or down - unsafe to drive: back seat wouldnt fold forward - which is necessary to access and increase the pickup bed area to fit a 4x8 sheet - a pinnacle part of what makes an Avalanche unique! Yeah its in good shape all right. And then to boot, it was obvious the salesman apparently didnt need or want my business: he was not friendly at all, didnt even smile once. Wanted above retail price for a piece of crap and offered below dealer trade in price for my vehicle which had no problems that would affect driving...I will never even look at a vehicle from this place ever again, let alone buy one. This clown salesman ruined that chance. I hope they sleep well at night knowing they are obviously trying to rip people off... I dont know if he was just a salesman or an owner, but man, he sure gives that place a bad name...my advice: GO SOMEWHERE / ANYWHERE BESIDES HAWKEYE AUTO
I read the reviews thinking it couldnt be that bad while it turns out they were spot on. The workers did not care to help show me a vehicle at all and will not meet you in the lot, you have to track someone down. They leave out the vehicles descriptions because they are all in need of repair. The truck i tried test driving today needed thousand of dollars dumped into it to be road legal, had major engine problems, and they took photos of it perfectly missing the damage i had to wait and see in person. When i went to test drive the truck it was empty so he sent a worker out to fill it up knowing we may buy the truck after the test drive. When we got the truck back to test drive they only filled it to an 1/8th of a tank. If i had bought the truck after the test drive i would of had to go straight back to the gas station. If you see a deal here to good to be true its because it is. I would trust gas station sushi before these guys.
I purchased my envoy from here 6 years ago and have still no problems with it.
The website was wrong. Went in for a test drive but found out the vehicle was manual instead of auto like the website said but other than that it was pretty nice
Not much bad to say. Great help and pretty good used cars.
I bought a prism from them. Found out it had motor issues. Given the fact that they are As is! They tried to fix the problem but it couldnt be fixed. Christian was very honest about the car and didnt know the problem but was willing to trade me somthing else. He was very nice about it. When i chose a different car i liked. Had it checked out. All seems to be good. Only issue was the sunroof. They offered to fix it befor i left. They did make it right!!
Most of the cars I looked at had issues with them. They do not inspect them, they tell you this themselves, and you are free to have them inspected. That being said, several of the cars I test drove were not road worthy, including one with a cracked windshield in the drivers line of sight, and one with tires that had hardly any tread (less than 2/32nd). With that in mind, if they would haggle on the price to allow money saved towards repairs, wouldnt be a bad thing, but they are firm, and the asking prices are on par with cars in good condition.
They dont seem very intrested in selling vehicles. Stopped by twice and neither time did anyone come to see if i needed help. After I went in and talked to someone, I test drove a vehicle. It had some issues that were not previously disclosed. I brought them up and tried to negotiate a deal. They were not willing to budge on vehicle prices even for cash offers and after reading through the reviews they do not seem to negotiate with anyone. If they are a no haggle prices establishment, they should advertise as such and save a lot of peoples time.
This is a reliable place to get a car in got my SUV here and it ran great had it going on my 3rd or 4th year until a drunk driver totaled it!! Thanks alot drunk lady I loved that truck I will probably never get over it 😕
We purchased a vehicle from them a few years back and had no issues with the car, the guy who runs it is straight forward and theres not a lot of bs going on. We almost bought a second vehicle from them a while ago but decided to have a mechanic put it up on a lift for us to check it out before buying, and the guy who runs Hawkeye agreed no issue. Once we found out it had too many issues for the asking price, and couldnt make a deal, he even refunded our deposit to hold the car. Its a true as-is dealership, you just need to know that going in. Bring someone who knows about cars or take it to a mechanic before buying.
I talked to a guy here was really gonna buy a truck but the experience was horrible! Lied on the phone, tried to backtrack allot of his statements said he was looking at his books minutes after picking up the phone from me telling me at 1st that the vehicle had been on his lot for 30 days then backtracked and said 39! When I comforted him he said 30/39 same difference.... but wait you said you were looking at your books! Why lie man? So I dug even deep paid 40 bucks for carfax report on vin saw that the truck been there longer than 39 days! These guys have a Low IQ and they are in the business of lying and deceiving there customers! I URGE YOU NOT TO GO HERE !
They sold my daughter a bad vehicle and did nothing to help resolve the problem. Very BAD business.
Bought a truck with outstanding recalls. Never was brought up during purchase. NEVER BUY HERE. Most things are broken and over priced.
Ask for Luke..He is the best one to deal with. If you buy and need it detailed like new...ask for jim.
Great service! Matt was so nice and helpful and explained everything very well.
Low prices and excellent service.
This was by far the worst car shopping experience I have ever had. When I wanted to look at a car the salesperson handed me the key and said nothing. While taking the car for a test drive I noticed the brake pads and possibly the rotors needed to be replaced. When I went back in to negotiate purchasing this used car I sat down with the same salesperson. I began by asking for a carfax or autocheck report, which he refused. He claimed they do not provide these reports. I went forward by bringing up the problem with the brakes in an effort to bring the sticker price down. He did not acknowledge my concerns about the brakes and simply said, 6700. Is this how they negotiate? I cannot believe how unhelpful and unwilling to communicate this salesperson was.If youre looking for a good deal and a pleasant car buying experience, you will find neither at Hawkeye Auto.
Found a good car at great price and it run great love the help from the salesman.
Found an awesome van at a great price. They got me in and on the road with no fuss.
Got a great deal on a car for my son and they gave us a fair price on our trade in. Great people to work with. Will be heading there again soon to look for a truck.
A bit unprofessional atmosphere, but they were up front about the defects in the cars.
Bought a few cars there and sales men are very respectful
Great low pressure car buying experience.
***I THINK MOST OF THE BAD REVIEWS HERE IS BECAUSE THEY BOUGHT DIRT CHEAP/LOW VAULE CARS AND EXPECTED IT TO RUN GOOD. HAWKEYE AUTO SELLS LOW VALUE CAR UP TO MID RANGE.We bought a mini van yesterday, we took it to a mechanic and paid to get it looked at. Usually when we buy used cars, some small things needed to be fixed. This one was perfect! nothing was wrong with it. Sales Rep was very nice! I would buy vehicles from here again.
They have some slimy business practices.I bought a vehicle from them that only ran for 2500 mi. They had replaced the tires but didnt bother with the spare. They had replaced the spark plugs so that when I replaced the spark plugs (which were not the correct gap!) whose condition I didnt know 200 mi later, no fouling was present, even though it was burning oil at a rate of at least 1 quart every 200 mi.The engine had a worn main bearing and at least one piston ring was close enough to being shot to cause a misfire 2500 mi after I bought the vehicle. There were some other problems that they really could feign innocence on, but the presented problems resulted in the vehicle being scrapped.Just be patient and look for a private seller.EDIT: This is a review of Hawkeye Auto in Marion, IA
Bought a $7000 vehicle from Hawkeye auto in March. A 2009 with 126,000 miles. Three months later the engine completely blew out. I realize used vehicles are sold as it but three months in to driving any vehicles and having the engine explode is absolutely ridiculous. Hawkeye auto and Luke were completely unwilling to help make the situation right by offering to help find a new motor ( was told to go online just like they do), do cheaper labor, etc, or anything for that matter to try and rectify the situation. I would NEVER recommend Hawkeye auto to anyone including my worst enemy. Never had a car buying experience go so poorly, or a vehicle have such severe issues in such a short time. Absolute worst experience and would run away from Hawkeye auto as fast as I could if I knew then what I know about them now. Giving one star only because I have to.
Fast and easy no presure buying great experience
Sure, they have got low prices- but thats because they dont even look at the cars before putting a price on them! We were there on 3 occassions and saw them just put the trade-ins on the lot. Not to mention, they told us this. We were going to buy a car there, but when we would get in a car to just look at it, one of them sounded like it was going to blow up, 2 didnt even start, 1 had the windows all broken so there was snow inside... what a mess! Unless you like risk, I wouldnt recommend.
This is great place with a lot of different vehicles to choose from, and they are straight forward with what they have.
Hawkeye Auto has decent cars and an honest staff. You get what you pay for in used cars.
Good selection, not too interested salespeople
I have purchased a couple of vehicles here, always upfront salesman, and low or no pressure.
My grandson was very happy.
Dishonest horrible nasty people and vehicles. I hope KARMA messes up everyone involved with this shady craphole of a place.
Wonderful experience all the way around!
Nice selection of cars and trucks
OK, so i got the 2000 honda accord and tested driving it. I felt like i needed more information so i took the car to King Kars for vehicle inspection. In the end, the car needs timing belt change, water pump change, air bag test, engine oil is leaking and also the driver seat is broken. It can cost me at least $1000 which is quoted by the shop.I took back the car to Hawkeye and asked negotiation. So i told them the problem the car is having and they did not even bother what i have told them. The car was priced $4995, and the least they could give me is $4850. This is ridiculous because they did not even care about the problem and wanted to sell an unsafety car to customer.I suggest not to come back again .
Have nice cars good prices
Have to watch what you get .so you dont get a lemon
I had someone look into a c rigslist posting the picture didnt look as the real thing.
Easy and great to deal with
Ok but like after the truck we got needs a lot of work to work right again
Bad quality of cars n customer services...
I wish all the cars had pricing on them.
Good deals on cars.
Awesome Place
I have bought cars from them for years and always felt I got a deal.
Had money then went too pic up and a person that had cash on hand took the car they dont hold things for u I guess money talks how sad
