I’ve been looking for Patagonia products all over the place up here and was able to find this place had exactly what I was looking for. Had no idea Downwind carried Patagonia and they came in clutch! Ended up purchasing a new sweatshirt and beanie. Staff was super friendly and helpful everything!. Hard to believe this store is within walking distance from my apartment and I’ve never been here until now. Great place to shop and I highly recommend shopping here!

Its so great to have this locally owned and operated sports shop in our midst. The owners are great folks and their employees are always helpful and enthusiastic. Amazon may be OK for a mop, but there are things you just need to touch and feel and discuss with folks who know something about them before buying. Im pretty sure that Jeff Bezos doesnt care a bit about you anyway. I know that the Downwind team actually does. Buy as much as you can from Downwind - everyone wins. Owners, Staff, Local community, and - YOU.

I was traveling through Marquette and needed a new sleeping bag. I first went to a competitor who only had one sleeping bag in stock of the wrong size style. I stopped in here and they had a good selection and a great price on mountain hardware bag. They guy at the checkout was also very well informed about the northern lights viewing potential for the next several days. If Im ever in town again and need some gear, Im heading here first!!!

They were great from the moment I walked in to when I left with my bike. They helped contact the frame manufacturer and get me my new warranty frame even though I didnt even buy the bike there. Ill definitely be making them my main bike shop.

Stopped here a couple of times to re-supply on the way to climb. Great little sports store. For as small of a shop it is, they do a great job packing a great selection of gear into the store. Awesome friendly staff. Lots of knowledge and experience in the staff.

Over the last 5-10 years, it is well known that bike shops have lost more and more customers to online retailers. Many riders have learned to do minor repairs in their garage, while saving money on parts, etc... This has forced bike shops to change their business model to better serve customers and carry parts needed for common failures or wear. ESPECIALLY when these bike shops are in known biking hot spots. Down Wind Sports fails to carry the most basic parts, such as Shimano XT brake pads and uses COVID-19 shock as an excuse even though they are readily available at nearly every online retailer (e.g., REI). And the response to can you take them off a stock bike since a drove 6.5 hours to ride here was you arent the first person to request it.My advice: Find a better shop that will regularly stock items to support not the first time requests or buy online. Pathetic bike shop that will fail just like all of the other shops who do not adapt.

Recently took a small kids bike there for an issue with a coaster hub. When I went to pick it up, I tested it and found no change from when it was dropped off. They took it back up to the shop and shortly after they told me I needed a new chain and that was causing my issue. I took the bike home and after a few YouTube videos I had the hub disassembled, cleaned, found a bad bearing and fixed that, greased everything, reassembled, and adjusted the tension on the hub (main problem), within an hour I had it going very good, with the same chain on it.Overall, I really felt that since I didnt have a $3000+ bike in there, it wasnt worth there time, which is fine, but tell me that when I drop it off, not 3-4 days later. The good news is I wasnt charged anything so I was only out the time it was at the shop.

Outstanding Guides for Family Rock Climbing ExperienceIf you have a chance to go with Bill and Bryan for a rock climbing outing, jump on it. They were able to accommodate our familys wide range of abilities and their ability to teach us as we tried new routes was spot-on helpful. We all had a lot of fun! It was well worth the expense.

I shop the Munising store frequently. Its great. Helpful staff, with a good selection of ice climbing gear at reasonable prices. So I went to the Marquette store to buy a pair of approach skis because they didn’t have any in Munising. Wanted to buy local. 3 or 4 people working in store and nobody would talk to me. I finally went and had to ask a salesperson and as soon as I walked up they made a gesture to wait and grabbed a phone and started making a call. Couldn’t believe it. Went straight to the Sports Rack, had great customer service, and got some Fischer S-Bounds for a good discount. I actually wanted Rossignols but I’m not going to beg for customer service. I definitely was buying skis that day, and I also was in the market for a nice enduro mtb which is a way bigger markup and money maker, but my business went elsewhere. I have some friends that work there, and they’re the best, they just aren’t/weren’t on the floor in Marquette unfortunately. (This was before COVID times when things were normal too)

So I wasn’t sure of what was available for my needs. The person that helped me decide was very accommodating. I wasn’t sure if I could use the rack I needed so he went so far as installing the rack then taking a bike off of the show room floor to see if I could mount the bike on the rack on my car. He showed me the best way to get that done. I bought them and I m so happy with the purchase that I’m buying kayak racks tomorrow. They are very nice people.

While this shop has many great products to offer, the staff is less than friendly. Dont get me wrong, the young kids are nice but the older gentlemen / owners are there for the kill. They will do everything they can to get every dollar out of you. Dont ask too many questions to Todd or he will start talk to you in a very condescending tone. If you know a lot about bikes you will be fine, but if you are not an expert, prepare to be taken advantage of and talked down to. I really wanted to have a great experience here but it just did not happen......
