The fellow who runs the tannery is incredible. He is helpful, fast and tells you if they are worth tanning.

I’ve been using Stern Tanning Co for 10 years, my sheep pelts always come back soft and beautiful. The hide side is shammy quality the wool side is soft with excellent bright color for both white and black pelts. They have always treated me well.

I am very pleased and impressed with the quality deer-hair on hide that I received today in September from Stern Tanning from last seasons deer hunt. The natural colors and softness of the hair on hide is superb! Such craftsmanship service did great respect and admiration of the beautiful deer harvested. Quality takes time. This is quite the treasure now in our home. Stern Tanning in Milwaukee was convenient to get to since it was less than 20 minutes from downtown Milwaukee and was open until 5:00. Thursday. It was about $80 total cost which is less than deer meat processing charges and this hide will last many more years than than the meat ever will. Looking at this beauty hide entices me to go out hunting again for that thrill of the hunt and respect of the entire harvest.

Have tried several tanneries for our sheepskins. Stern always returns our own hides; the leather and the wool are softer from Stern than from any other tannery we have tried. Our customers can feel the difference! Great job on a deerskin, too!

I ordered five calf skin drum heads (including one for a 28 bass drum), and the quality, turnaround time, and customer support were superb. Making these is a lost art (and skill), and its great to know that there are still companies (especially in the US) that are able to produce this type of quality, handmade product.

Ive had them tan my sheep hides for the past 5 years and they have done a great job, price was good and product was good, too! But the last time I sent them hides it was 14 months ago and still have recieve nothing back from them. 3 Beautiful sheep hides and I want them back!! They cashed my check I sent with the hides. Ive tried to call them 3 times, left messages each time over the past few months, and still have not had contact from them! :-( Not Cool. All the other times I had my hides back within 4-5 months!

Have had them tan a deer hide, hair on the past 2 years. both turned out great. Will be bringing in a 3rd hide this year, to have turned into black leather. It is service like this that has me coming back.

Years ago, Sterns was the best in the business for sheep hides. Recently sent in two premium sheep hides, received one back in a timely manner. The quality is terrible, fleece felted, filled with debris and discolored an unsightly yellow. The second hide we never received. After calling, received back a small Cashmere goat pelt, not only the wrong pelt, but a completely different species from what we sent. Avoid this company, seem like crooks to me.

I’ve had a set of Stern heads on my Craviotto set for over 5 years now and they still sound just as wonderful as when I put them on! Beautiful craftsmanship.

I used Stern Tanning for several years. My last order, tho, was not tanned properly. Sheepskins came back dirty, smelly, and with holes burned into them. When I asked what had happened and for a refund, they refused. Would not even consider a partial refund. I was very disappointed in their tanning service and the arrogance in their response. I would not recommend using Stern Tanning.

Brought in 3 deer hides on 3 different occasions first 2 were great but took almost a year to get back. Last one again almost a year to get back and turned out horrible, completely unusable .Ripped hide,hard leather, and no refund

Had them tan a hair on deer hide for me. Very nice people and they did a great job!

Did not get same hides back, took months to complete and product was terrible plus extremely expensive. AVOID.
