Extremely helpful staff willing to go above and beyond to check what’s in stock, review pricing, suggest multiple options etc. over the phone and in person.
I was in town exploring the city before moving there in the fall and was so excited when I happened upon this gem!! This was a paradise for a book lover like me! So many books and great prices too! I don’t know why anyone would go to a big box store with this in town!
If you’re looking to sell your used books, skip this joint and take them over to Half Price Books instead. There’s like 4 pleasant staff members here who make it tolerable to shop at Magers. Then there’s this snooty, scowl-faced (young?) woman who walks around with a bee in her bonnet and looks like she’d rather walk right out the front door and in front of a bus than be bothered to engage with a single customer. I want to say she’s even the owner? Or manager?Sometimes there are decent finds, but I’ve always had better luck with Goodwill and Half Price Books.
Kathleen is a jewel. She was very kind and understanding of my lack of understanding internet protocols. Took time to get the in-store book off the shelf to help me determine that I was buying the correct manual, and sold it to me by phone so that I didnt have to struggle with online shopping. That may be in her job description, but it was a huge help to me. Thank you Kathleen.
Love this bookstore! I always find some hidden gems
Solid bookstore. They have good prices new and occasionally Ill find a used book for pretty cheap.Very good customer service for ordering something they dont have on hand.Dog friendly
Great place well worth the trip if youre in the area
Unfortunately I have never been there. My experience was online. the book I ordered was in wonderful condition and the manner that it was shipped to me was exemplary. Five Stars!
One of the best in the state. Worth stopping by if you are traveling through, worth coming back if youre a local. Much love to Magers & Quinn!
Huge selection. Friendly staff. Love this place!
The best selection of international literature in translation I think Ive ever found in a bookstore! Ill be back soon for more
Great book store. The customer service here is so incredibly good. Highly recommended
I recently purchased The Eucharistic Words of Jesus from Magers and Quinn Booksellers. My order was placed on 3/29/2021 and I received it via USPS on 4/4/2021. I consider the condition of the book to be better than advertised and easy to read. Thank you for your rapid processing and shipment? LS
I have had nothing but great experiences at this bookstore. Everyone who has helped me has been so friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend supporting this small independent business!
I love coming here. Everyone is super friendly. I love finding things in the sale section. I am into vintage and antique books so it’s fun when I find something there for a few bucks.
I made my way into this store when on a trip with my family. It is a wonder if you are a book lover as I. My name is Roger Browning and I am the author of The Reckoning of Rance, that is currently out now on Amazon. It is a story of a family in our current time in Texas. A ranching family, but a troubled dysfunctional family and inheritance given in different ways to all of them at birth. It sits in western genre, but it gives the feel of a family saga, that would just about fit the life, no matter how lived by anybody anywhere. I hope you chance a look at it, but more importantly I hope you get something from it and although it is not in the used section of one of the favorite places I have visited, this store one day when its worn pages have fit the job well done, I hope it sits a shelf here for one more go around. My name is Roger Browning and my book is The Reckoning of Rance. Please take the time to visit this wonderful store.
Lovely old place, I cant believe Ive never been here before
My favorite bookstore in Minneapolis. Huge selection and everyone who I’ve asked for suggestions or help has been really helpful. Definitely recommend.
I ordererd a book from here all the way to the netherlands. And it was packaged and handled with care. I got my rare book in a package that resembled Fort Knox. No issues, fast and great service. Thank you for the great service.
One of my favorite bookshops! Great selection and a good used section with friendly staff
I am in England thankyou for my animorphia notebook. I have looked at your shop it looks great better than anything here thankyou once again.
My favorite! You can find amazing books here - new, used, unusual editions, signed copies, old bindings. Theyve got excellent staff recommendations throughout the shop. Also great book or art related items like tshirts, calendars, soap, mugs... super nice staff.
Amazing bookstore. I had several specific types of books that I needed and they had a great selection in each. And most important to me, the staff knew where to point them out to me.
Magers & Quinn always has an amazing selection of new and used books, and their prices are phenomenal. Stop buying books from Amazon and search Magers & Quinn instead; theyll probably have it for a similar price and youll be supporting a local bookstore instead of a soulless corporate behemoth. Whats more, Magers & Quinn took a chance on our little publishing company. Pre-COVID, they let us host multiple literary events in their space. We launched our flagship book series in their store, and were forever grateful for their dedication to the local lit community.
GIANT BOOK STORE, GIANT BOOK STORE, GIANT BOOK STORE! Im a book store nerd, so I get excited when I see large maze-like ones. Although, its size can be overwhelming tji mg s are pretty easy to find. The staff is incredibly helpful with both ordering and finding books in and out of the store.
I’ve always loved going to this bookstore, I’ve bought countless of books here. Such a variety and it has the most welcoming atmosphere to it. I love bringing friends here it is such a magical place. They have both new and used books for great prices. I’ve had minimal encounters with their staff, but they’ve always been kind at the register.I ordered a book online for next day pick up (no extra charge) during this covid situation. It ended being ready the same day I ordered which was awesome. They have a great set up for pick up.
Found my favorite book here! Everyone was super helpful and great vibe!
Wow I love this bookstore. Iv only been once and my first time was last monday. I had got old classic literature by Victor Hugo and they were old books from a previous over. The publication print was from 1952 and the books are in amazing condition. I appreciate the passing of books from one generation to the other. I usually give my books to Family and friends. Well I want to say to the previous owner. How thankful I am to have these. I will enjoy them and when I finish them. I too will pass the books on to another. Thanks to the staff for showing me the literature section and letting me roam.Books, Toilers of the Sea, The Laughing Man and Ninety Three.
Excellent selection and knowledgeable staff.
Here is your task: Think of a subject, be as broad or specific as possible. Now enter this store and slowly make your way into the high ceilinged second room (yes, it goes further than it seems at first) all the while looking at tables, shelves, and cases around you, taking whatever path you wish. If you havent found anything yet, go all the way to the back wall of ever replenished bargain books. These may have scuffs on the covers or are forgotten oddities but otherwise are fine, good books (and games, tapes, dvds, etc ) to now finally find your fated tome. For $1 to $5 each, you must now get back out to the street without spending over $20. Good luck, I rarely leave without a months full of head food.
During the pandemic, I’ve been ordering books by mail. Magers & Quinn has been communicative and without error in filling my orders. Plus they keep postage costs down. Before the pandemic, I enjoyed browsing in the store and staff were always helpful and knowledgeable.
This bookstore is a picturesque beauty and the beast scenario. The staff are fantastic! One of my favorite bookstores in Minneapolis hands-down!
Fantastic bookstore!
Wow. First of all, I have been living in uptown for more than a Dozen Years and when I finally walked in my mind was blown. This place has so many books and anything that youre looking for they would be happy to assist you. I was there late one night with a friend who wanted to look at spells and occult stuff. We definitely found what we were looking for.
This is a great book store! Very well organized with a diverse selection. They are also conscientious about social distancing, provide masks and sanitizers at the door. Friendly and welcoming staff.
This is my favorite bookstore in the Twin Cities. They have friendly staff who give great recommendations, its cozy, and pretty affordable. I love killing time here even if I dont buy anything, but I usually find something, and often it has been the spontaneous or recommendation-driven purchases that have been my favorites. I always visit if Im in the neighborhood, or if I want to find something specific, this is my first stop.
Chill atmosphere with great selection.
I’ve spent more time wandering the rows of Magers and Quinn than I have in most other MPLS establishments, and for good reason - this is an amazing bookstore. Not only do they already have an incredible selection in-store, but the staff is always ready to help you get a hold of the book you’re looking for even if it needs to be ordered. Also, they have wonderfully unique gifts for book lovers, too (candles, apparel, art, etc.). I just love this place!!!
My personal favorite book shop. They have a wide selection of books at good prices, and you can shop on their website too, if you prefer. Their staff are helpful and make good recommendations if you dont have something specific in mind. Great location near the lake and other shops and restaurants so you can go read your new books over coffee or lunch.
This bookstore has such a broad and amazing selection of books - used and new. The staff is always super helpful as well! Recently, I have been shopping their online store, and they have ever title I could imagine. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting some new reads!
Great place with so many options on books. Local authors and national bestsellers. Everything is there. Only downside is I always have to park a half mile away all the time.
I love so many prices and finds here. Tons. The staff are genuinely friendly. Absolutely love the space, HUGE selection, bitter there arent more bookstores like this currently but at least we have this place. LUV 💯🙏
Great selection, great service.
Local bookstore, helpful staff.
Awesome bookstore! Staff were incredibly helpful & Im a huge fan of this bookstore model (many used or overstock/unsold books).
I ordered a book from them to be shipped and they were super friendly and helpful. And the book came in excellent condition. It was a pleasure doing business with them!!
A local favorite with a wide selection of books, many at a fantastic price.
Having cut my book-loving teeth in one of the best independent bookstores in the country, then watching it fade in the shadow of online booksellers, this gem of a store in Uptown is a welcomed balm for a soul hungry for the physical experience of book shopping. Because of the nature of the business, the stock needs to have a little something for nearly every taste. A double-edged sword: it may seem like limited selection, but they stay in business. Independent. Local. Alive. These are good things.
My favorite spot in all of the twin cities. Hands down, the best place to find authors you wouldn’t expect on subjects you typically wouldn’t gravitate towards. I always leave there with 5-10 reads I didn’t expect to find, and at prices they cannot be beat. I really appreciate that they often mix used copies with new copies, so you can often find a lightly used version of a book you love for $5-10 less than new. THE BEST!
Thank you for making me feel welcome. Always love visiting your store.
I have seen several fantastic authors here. Every event I go to is well organized, and fun. It is a great sized bookstore, with lots of books to choose from to devour. What I really like is that all of the books, ones that I saw anyway, was discounted from the publisher price. And I also really like that there was a massive clearance section, and that they have more than just bestsellers. Many, many not as known books waiting to be read too. And lots of local authors, which is so nice
Great bookstore. However, you really need to make it easier to purchase books on the site. The only website I have ever struggled with getting to accept credit card information in this way! Please fix this if you want to keep customers. Its a problem.
So much variety!
I took in several boxes of books for them to look at, when I picked the book up I was missing an 1825 Works of Byron signed by the then governor of Penn. They said they didnt have it, but I made a list as I put the books in the box to take them, then checked the list when I picked the books up. The book was missing. They could have cared less.
One of the best bookstores in region, great selection both used and new. Frequent fantastic author visits and writing/book events, check the store calendar. Great gifts, I just got a gift certificate for a birthday gift today. Awesome employees & customer service.
Best one-stop book shop in Minneapolis!Expansive departments abound here, from fiction to domestic and world history, impeccably organized. Another plus is their juvenile section, which features new, gently used and cut-out titles packed with surprises for the patient bookshop addict.European and Canadian cut-outs about here, and before purchasing any title, shoppers would be wise to compare the everyday 10% discount off cover for those that are gently used, overstocked or deleted from the catalog.Although the staff here is quintessentially bookish, I have not yet encountered a snob in the mix. Dogs on leash are welcome, and the spacious interior has enough room to peruse ones stack of titles for awhile.M&Q is also a reasonable place to sell your gently used books, and while their payouts arent they used to be (whose are?) they far exceed the payouts of Half-Price Books and other corporate outlets.Near the busy intersection of Hennepin and Lake, on-street parking within a few blocks of the shop is often limited. Check neighboring streets for options.Consult the stores website for their latest readings and signings, many featuring top-tier authors. The demise of the private, independent bookseller is a continuing problem these days, so your support of Majers & Quinn will brighten your day and make the world a little better.
Just received my book, The Holdouts. Fast shipping & book was in pristine condition. Thank you.
Favorite book store in all of the twin cities! Support your local shops like these please!
One of the best used and rare bookstores in the city! They have a great local section, their staff picks are unique and varied, the kids section is kid friendly, and their staff is very knowledgeable. If you need a book, support Magers & Quinn, independent and worth every minute you spend inside!
The smell of books greets you upon entry. The selection is unparalleled. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. My favorite place to buy books, I could (and have) spent hours here.
I love this place! It has a very cozy, warm atmosphere and a diverse book selection. They offer a used/discounted book selection as well for those on a budget.
I ordered online and then the weather got really bad. They let me easily cancel my order and responded quickly to my email. Thanks, Magers and Quinn!!
This is a great bookstore. From outside it looks like a tiny little mom and pop bookstore, but once you go in you realize its gigantic. It extends a long ways back, yet it retains that local bookstore charm. The prices are good and the staff is friendly.
I come here every trip to Minneapolis. An awesome, old school, bookstore! Big big selection. Discounted prices. Great clearance selection too.
Love this book store!!!
Terrific book store with a wide selection. Helpful but busy staff. Great perusing on a weekend. They have a selection of old maps and art prints worth browsing and theyll buy your old books if you need room on your self. Keep your eyes peeled for sidewalk sales!
This is one of the greatest bookstores in the Twin Cities, It seems that the Used inventory of books is decreasing and there seems to be a broader selection of New books. I think that the charm of Magers was always the amazing selection of used books. Unfortunately Magers seems to be moving in the direction of a New bookstore and loosing all of it appeal.
Magers & Quinn is an independent book store. That is important to me. They have an outstanding book selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and pleasing store layout,. I appreciate them tremendously for their support of authors and the community. They have numerous author events. They have been hugely helpful to the community in another way, which might require their permission to publish.
Honestly hands down. The best and most helpful bookseller when it comes to international orders.
I love independent book stores and this is a good one. Nice selection of new and used book. Great place to spend a few hours. The staff was very helpful.
I am a big fan of independent bookstores and the experience of just walking the aisles and discovering. Magers and Quinn delivers on this experience in spades. A great independent with outstanding selection. Very helpful staff. Also, they have a speaker series of authors that come through on a regular basis. Saw Chuck Klosterman there.....so good.
Great place to browse and find new or used books. Love the ladders on rails and has that great smell of books when you walk in the door. One of the best booksellers Ive ever been to.
Magers and Quinn is the last of the Great Independents. They have a literate staff, they have the latest great stuff, their customer service is flawlessly polite. They buy books at good price, and they care about the world. 5 stars all the way.
Such a unique selection of books. Best sellers, newly published, old hidden gems. Definitely a must see bookstore!
Great store to browse and buy, prices are OK, not too high but not low either. Be warned: they make you check your back pack. I find Half-Price books more friendly but less convenient.Bad place to sell your books. You might be better off donating you books to a thrift store and taking the tax break.
Love this place. Ordered a used book that was marketed as Like New and the book was delivered as described. Wonderful value. Also, I was impressed as they packed the book in a way so that there would be no issues of wear and tear through transit; a much better job than Amazons packing!
Great selection of used books here across all genres. Everything from rare signed first editions and Easton Press copies to manga and vintage childrens books. Very cool. Shipping home to NH wasnt half bad either. $4 for first book and $1.50 for each additional one. Support your independent bookstores folks!
Great selection of books. Super friendly service. And the bargain book section is the best!
My favorite bookstore.
Awesome local bookstore! They have a huge selection and its a really great atmosphere. Try to always stop in and buy something when Im in Uptown.
Very cool bookstore with great prices on most books!
Definitely one of the best bookstores in Minnesota that I have found. Its full of hidden treasures. You might not find exactly what you went there for, but you will probably walk out with a few things you didnt know that you needed until you saw it.
It reminds me of Powell’s books in Portland. Love the local feel of this place!
Great bookstore! Its half bookstore, half maze. It seems like a never ending store. Its quiet, the staff are friendly, and they have a huge selection. Great place for a stop!
Great and constantly evolving assortment of used and new books. Friendly staff. Fair prices paid for purchased items.
Damn fine place
Awesome privately-owned new and used bookstore. Has a great Uptown vibe and a huge collection. Definitely a place you could spend hours in.
Such a wonderful book store. The used book prices arent rock bottom, but they consistently carry only used books in great condition. The selection is unbeatable.
PLEASE READ: Scroll down and READ THE COMMENTS! this store has a history of racially profiling FOR YEARS!. I too was racially profiled today..I just found out there is a YouTube video of a man being racially profiled.. Please like my comment as helpful to get this noticed!
I dont even go to big box bookstores anymore. Magers and Quinn is my go to. Great selection and friendly staff. You can even check the website if youre looking for something specific to see if they have it.
My girlfriend and I have found our local happy place. We will need to restrain ourselves when we frequent this place! Amazing bookstore!
Really awesome bookshop. They have some really unique selections, along with the normal books you would expect. Great mix of new and used.
By most accounts, this store provides a great experience (if you are white). Not sure why these people have decided that everybody else is not entitled to the same experience -- see racial profiling.
Reasonable prices and a huge variety of options and genres.
