I dig it!Every dish is capable of being veganized, which is sweet. Good, messy, comfort food. The only way it could be better is if there was even just one vegan option that was soy-free.That said, their specials are always amazing, as is their beverage menu.
The fact that you’re vegan is the only thing keeping you afloat. When they mention space for a certain race- they envision here.Food - over seasoned.
Great place for breakfast. Nearly everything is/can be made vegan/vegetarian. Too many delicious items to list. The drinks and sweet treats are a must try. If youre ever in Minneapolis, and looking for a place to get vegan/vegetarian breakfast/lunch, do stop by. Highly recommended!
A+ food, nice back patio, & good prices. Would highly recommend!
Delicious and healthy choices. Great for vegans and carnivores. Most vegan donuts and muffins are so-so but theirs were great.
Delicious breakfast and amazing coffee at a cool location. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
Really yummy food and friendly from vegans to meat eaters! You can get everything from a delicious salad with yummy tempe to a huge burger and garlic fries here. Love checking out their weekly specials. Employees are always nice and food is consistently delicious. I highly recommend their cabbage salsa and garlic fries!
It can be difficult to find places that my meat-and-potatoes loving husband and veggie-loving me can agree on, especially for breakfast or brunch. Modern Times has something for us both, from Croque Monsieur and fries (him) to the Good Morning Healing Earth with tofu (me). I love checking out their coffee specials too as they are often (always?) delish. Dont sleep on their jam either, idk what it is, but its not to be missed.
Menu nice, service really good, food was good wish they would have checked in after dropping off, burger was a little to pink in half of it, for ordering well done. Great flavors on the bowl and burger with combos mixed together.
Everyone I know loves Modern Times, and somehow it still seems underrated to me. I could talk about how every menu has multiple options to accommodate meat eaters, vegetarians, gluten free folks, and vegans alike- but what’s really incredible is the amount of love they put into every part of the menu. Everything is made from scratch and EVERYTHING tastes good.
Love how many veggie & vegan options their are, and how easy it is to make something on the menu vegan. Delicious food; and the outdoor patio is spacious enough to feel comfortable.
Modern Times is excellent! Food is delicious and I love all the vegetarian and vegan options. I went here for the first time this week, went back again a couple days later, and heading there today for lunch.
Amazing food, so many options, and the staff is so sweet 🥰
Good food, great vibe. The staff are very considerate and will cater for anything you need.
Always good food, with almost every item having a vegan/vegetarian option
Another completely underappreciated gem of South Minneapolis. Very reasonable food and coffee prices. If you drop in for lunch you will be impressed by the phenomenal flavors.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions and the food was very delish!
Dont settle for a mediocre brunch...save your money for this place! The polenta poblano bowl was a treat: crispy polenta cubes with beans, a tangy but not over powering sauce & (for me) a medium fried egg on top. Creamy, tangy, crunchy...hit all the right brunch notes. Meals have enough layers of flavor & textures to please vegans, vegetarians & carnivores. Bacon was also great, btw! Got a little pricey but thats because everything looked good....and actually was very good! Fresh & lightly pickled veggies beat the typical overly cheesy & fatty brunch menus out there!
The food is so good! Love this place.
Awesome food!!!....healthy, delicious and made lovingly.
The burrito I got was big enough to eat for 3 days
Super yummy! We found this in City Pages Best of the Twin Cities for best Brunch. My husband got a burger and fries (oh, those fries!), and I got the southwest bowl. Both were super good and made us both remark that wed like to return. Had to wait a while for our food, but there was a line of people and it was a lovely Sunday morning, perfect for brunch time. Definitely worth a stop!
Theres so many options to include all types of dietary restrictions, I would be surprised if someone couldnt find something for themselves. The staff is so great to talk to even when it gets super busy on a Saturday morning :) theyre set up for to go ordering is great too!
Let me start by saying this is one of our top places to go for an awesome breakfast in Minneapolis. Our last visit I got the daily special of Lamb of God which was phenomenal! We have yet to have a bad experience eating at the restaurant other than the fact that it can get quite busy on the weekend and you might end up having to wait a little bit to get a seat. The number of tables is limiting, but understandable since its not a huge space to begin with. But to get to the brass tacks, I love the variety and quality of ingredients that they use to create their dishes. They have a wide variety of vegan substitute options for those looking for a great eggless breakfast. On top of all of their stellar food performance is superb coffee! I generally always grab an endless dip coffee cup everytime we visit, but weve certainly stopped by more than once to pickup some of their special coffee beverages (shot out to the Dirty Dancing beverage if you like horchata)
Modern Times is the literal best spot in town. Featuring a home-grown menu with lots of TLC and high-quality options for every dietary preference. Unique, rustic menu with the very best vegan breakfast in town!! Love their specialty drinks too.
This was one of the best brunches Ive had in a long time. I ordered the polenta rancheros with avocado and it was magnificent. The polenta was nicely crisp and it was smothered in a perfectly spicy red sauce with delicious cabbage salsa on the side. Highly recommend. I also ordered the house made chai and it was easily the best Ive had. Modern Times is definitely worth a visit.
Best fresh donuts in town. Honestly everything they make here is sublime. I recommend the Deadwood wrap with a chai tea. Very COVID safe. Love what this place represents for South Minneapolis.
This is the best place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Everything is amazing and they can accommodate any dietary restrictions.
I only got coffee, which was excellent, but the pastries and bowls looked tasty
Awesome food. Everything always tastes very fresh. We order from here for our whole office orders quite often because everyone seems to find something on the menu they can eat and everyone raves about what the get.
Im a lifelong vegetarian and Ive never had kale so good. I ordered the eggs, biscuits and gravy w/ kale and it was all incredible. To go system worked well. Will order again soon!
Always love food from here. Vegan, vegetarian, meaty, and gluten free options are all important in our family! And now, in the Age of Rona, we are so grateful to be able to pick up food in such a covid-safe manner. Appreciate all they do! ❤️❤️❤️
Best breakky burrito around
Always phenomenal for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Very acommodating to those who may be gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant, vegetarian, and/or vegan. The garlic kale with tahini sauce and roasted beets make my day every time. Please, for the love of all that is good, try their specials at least thrice! (Always perfect.)
This is my first time trying Modern Times and I’ve wanted to for awhile. It was definitely worth the wait! I tried making tempeh before and it didn’t turn out good so it turned me off of it but have there tempeh burger turned me into a lover of it! Also the garlic fries are amazing as well. Plus coffee so good you don’t need creamer which is what I look for in my coffee. Next time I’m going to try other stuff on the menu and bring my partner!
I love this completely underrated cafe, amazing food and lovely customer service.
Eye am a happy regular here. They REALLY made my day when eye made my online order just to realize eye needed to pick up my clothing from my tailors. Eye went into panic mode almost immediately, calling them 5 times. No answer. Eye desperately didnt want to pick up a cold, dry vegan biscuit & gravey breakfast. So eye sent an email not knowing what else to do. They wrote me back, told me no problem and had my food made FRESH an hour AFTER eye ordered it. LOVE THEM!
This is the best breakfast spot in Minneapolis
We ordered 15 meals for our office. The food AMAZING & they made it so easy to order. Everyone I spoke to was so very helpful!! I will definitely be ordering from them again! Delicious!!!!
Friendly staff. Great food. Good drinks!
Thats a very tasty vegan burrito. I highly suggest the deadwood. Really love the COVID precautions they have taken. Thanks for being rad, safe, and tasty!
Awesome vegan and vegetarian dishes. Their sourdough is great and the vegan doughnuts are some of the best Ive had. Super light and fluffy.
Easily the best restaurant in Minneapolis, and it isnt even close. If running a restaurant was basketball, everyone is playing high school JV, and Modern Times is Hakeem Olajuwan in his prime. Fabulous! Awesome food, great people, amazing community members.
I had the Cabbie sandwich for lunch it was ok. Well Im sure many will enjoy their food, its fresh, made to order and good for you. Not sure if its worth $8.50 but anyway its a nice cozy spot, that plays loud music, un-sure of the type of music. Has many veggy options, very nice for veggie lovers. Im big on taste and favor i enjoy good seasonings, pepper, salt, etc. But Modern Times food was good natural and fresh but it was not seasoned not even salt on the eggs. My receipt asked for a tip of 20% or more Im not leaving a tip for a pick up or take out order.
Good food cool cats
Wonderful vegan options, large portions, funky atmosphere. Nearly all of the menu items can be customized to suit vegan/vegetarian diets. The staff was friendly and helpful. Wish the napkins were better and the music was less loud (went early). Super delicious and highly recommended!
I love this place. Good morning healing earth plate with curried tofu and corn tortillas with a side of hash browns and side of garlic kale- definitely the way to go. I very much appreciate the consistency of the food. It comes out as the same delicious plate of food every time! The staff is so sweet. I’m glad to have Modern Times in my neighborhood. Only change I’d love to see is that you stay open until 8-9pm 😉
Fantastic small dinner with unique offerings. They were able to cater to any dietary needs with really great vegan and vegetarian options. There will probably be a short wait for a table but they have a large waiting room with peace coffee.
I almost feel badd about saying how great this place is, since I know millions of other people Have probably said the same thing. Its got a great South Minneapolis Down-to-Earth hippie vibe, with fantastic and creative food. If its not Hip, then nobody should care about hip.
They have the best dishwashers
Increasing Returns!I started coming to Modern Times several years ago. My visits increase year over year.Creative short menuExcellent service and attentionQuality distinctive ingredientsUnique styleIm a carnivore and my partner is a herbivore. We can always agree on MT
Great place within the neighborhood to hang out with excellent coffee and food. The wait area is nice with self service coffee and water. The staff is great and friendly. Highly recommended
Great food!
Best turkey sandwich I have ever eaten.
Love the vegan options. Killer food :)
Really nice, staff is very hard working, food is overall good. Personally not a fan of the hash browns... A bit overdone for me.
Fantastic vegetarian and vegan breakfasts. Several dishes have a touch of heat from roasted peppers. Big portions and hearty veggies mean youll be full for hours.
So good! Great selection of food and it was quality. The staff were also very friendly. Met a couple here who travels around the world and upon return this was their first stop, speaking volumes. !
My first time at Modern Times was on a busy Sunday. They take care of their patrons who have to wait by providing a cozy nook with coffee you can help yourself to while you wait. The wait was well worth it since the food was delicious. Not your typical Sunday brunch fare. Delicious options for vegans, vegetarians, carnivores and everything in between.
Great food, servers were pretty cool. They should check their dishwasher because all the silverware seemed like it wasn’t getting clean. The host must have hated her life. In all my years in restaurants, I’ve only run into a handful of people that seemed so disgruntled and negative. She might want to try exercise, meditation or finding a new career.
Yummmmmy vegan bowls! The environment feels so uplifting and artisty!
Food was excellent, restaurant was dirty.
Really amazing food, and has vegan options for almost EVERYTHING on their menu. The waitress was really busy, but still managed to stay completely calm, and keep everyones drinks filled, take orders in a timely manner, and bring food out hot! I was extremely impressed with her! Bill was a lot cheaper than what I was expecting, we got the same type of stuff youd get at Dennys, and it was $10-$15 cheaper than Dennys for 2 people. We will be back!!!
This is the best place. If you havent been here, go. Best staff in town. Food is delicious and consistent. They cater to all different dietary restrictions, everyone in your party will be happy with their meal, no question.
Amazing little gem with high quality food for all diets. The garlic kale side dish was top notch. I could eat that all day. The poached eggs atop my seasonal croque madame were the most perfectly poached eggs Ive ever encountered, and I used to be a breakfast cook.
A very welcoming atmosphere, great service, and amazing food and coffee. Its a little bit of a wait, especially on the weekends, but they have a side room to wait in, which is nice.
Love this spot! Every item on this inclusive menu is worth trying. Fresh inputs and a hip edge make the brunch menu more than just comfort food. The specials are consistently awesome. Staff & atmosphere are wonderful and one of a kind. Leave feeling healthy, happy and satiated every time. Great neighborhood asset.
One of my favorite places to eat breakfast in Minneapolis! I have tried something different every time and been so pleased. The Cabbie sandwich is one of the best breakfast sandwiches. The vegan and vegetarian options are delicious and abundant. The food is so high quality and satisfying.
I love going to Modern Times. They have great vegan and vegetarian options. The coffee is inexpensive and the waiters are always super great. Sometimes this place is busy but I guess that makes sense because its super delicious.
The Jonathan Richman sandwich is to die for! The service is always great and the food is consistently awesome! We’ve never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a table, and it’s worth the wait. Didn’t get out of bed before 12? That’s okay! They have breakfast options available until they close!Perfect for my egg-loving partner and vegans, like myself.
The atmosphere is very chill, servers are very nice and the food is amazing! I LOVE that they use ingredients from local farms and free range eggs. There is an option for everyone but they focus on vegetarian and vegan food. Which is hard to find in other restaurants.
This place was recommended to me by a friend, The food and coffee was delicious. Lots of Veg and Vegan options. The waitresses were very attentive and the food came pretty quick. I had the burrito special, and the ingredients were really fresh. The sauce was good too.One thing I should note: I absentmindedly left the key to my bike lock at home, so I couldnt lock my bike outside to go in and eat. The staff was very kind to let me sit at one of the tables outside so I could keep an eye on my unlocked bike. I really appreciate that. I was very hungry and was worried that I might not be able to eat while keeping my bike secure. Thank you!
Very good food, great menu with choices for everyone. Excellent coffee. There sour dough and rye bread are super tasty, Im going to guess there other breads are also good but those are the only two I every order.Everything they sell is of the highest quality, most of it being locally sourced. I also enjoy the great people watching here. This is the go to place for kids to bring their parents to show them they are eating well!
Good food, nice staff, the little eating area was nice outside
This is my favorite breakfast spot in the Twin Cities. If I could, I would eat here every day. I used to only order the Beet Up but have expanded my reach to include other delights such as the South Side Hash. If you happen in during lunch time don’t dismay, the burger and garlicky fries are totally worth it. I feel great about spending my money here and even when the wait is long the staff and kind and accommodating and there is delicious coffee!!
They have food named after Kate Bush
Funky, avant South Minneapolis diner. They just keep getting better. The menu is traditional diner fare fused with healthy local organic/Mexican. The specials are inspired and worth the extra price. Great kids menu coloring project.
Wow! Amazing service, great food, great prices, and a fun, welcoming environment. Thanks for all the vegan options! You guys rock and I will definitely be back!
I like it person I was with I like even more
Great coffee! Good food. The service was slow and the crowd very alternate but a pleasant breakfast
Been here for breakfast, had a little wait but it was worth it. You get to have coffee while you wait, so the time passes quick. The people are friendly and the food is really nice, their multi grain bread toast and hash-browns are a must try, the coffee also has a unique flavor.Be prepared for a 15-20 min wait and you will enjoy your weekend breakfast
Incredible place. Incredibly friendly and attentive staff. Food was delicious and almost everything on the menu can be veganised. I got the biscuits and gravy which was sooo good. Nice large portion as well so I have some for my lunch today as well.
This is a fun and comfortable place to go and eat. I definitely row go back and it looks like a good place to eat breakfast.
The food was amazing. Great Tea selection as well. Fun fun fun
Awesome as usual. All beef is grass fed. Veggies are organic..I think! Gluten free bread is high quality teff type bread. Atmosphere is comfy and welcoming. My favorite breakfast is roast turkey (side) and 2 sunny side up eggs.
