This was my first experience with Harlan and I needed someone who could service a foreign vehicle. My oil light had come on and they were helpful, professional, timely, and communicated issues and options before any work was completed.

I have a 13yr old Hummer H3 that I want to keep forever. Harlan has kept her running with no major issues this whole time. I wouldn’t take her to anyone else. Harlan is always professional, timely, courteous and knowledgeable. There was one minor issue with a trim piece that they took the time to research for the best possible/cheapest solution.

We were able to get same day appointment so that was a big win. They were on time and did a great job. Very affordable. We will use them again.

Over all nice people but over priced. I was traveling through and asked my home mechanic and was told: They charge too much per hour. The amount of hours charged were too many. Also they did not disclose full high priced diagnostic fees upfront. I was told my vehicle would be done Fri afternoon and was not until Monday afternoon. But my a/c is blowing cold now though so I assume they did a good repair.

After malpractice at a previous shop, Harlan’s got me in and seen in an expedient manor and got my truck back to me better than I had brought it.

Always try to up sale me, even when I know the problem with my car. They look for other things to get some extra money. They always approve if you want it... but pretty annoying, because its not necessary work. They Will fix your car the right way and make sure its running great afterwords.

I was stranded 3 hours from home and my car was overheating. I called late in the afternoon and they worked me in. My car could not be repaired until the next day to to availability of needed part. I could not find a rental. The allowed me to use their loaner car to drive home and return the next day with the part. My repair took less than an hour. I was truly grateful and extremely satisfied. God always has a “ram in the bush” and they were mine.

Carte blanche is presumed by this business. By leaving your car and keys with them, you’re writing them a blank check. You BETTER have a written price commitment from them in advance, but I’m betting they won’t give you one.In my most recent visit, I simply asked how much it will cost to replace all four struts on my car. They refused to give me a price without looking at my car first, alluding that they needed to ensure the right parts were obtained, so I left the car with them. They called me and told me that the parts are unavailable, and stated furthermore, that the struts don’t need to be replaced. I don’t know who they rely on exclusively for parts, but there are many aftermarket strut manufacturers; surely one of them has struts for a popular 3-year-old car. When I went to retrieve the car, they charged me $65 for looking at my struts. That’s totally unnecessary – there is little one can do to diagnose whether struts are needed or not – a mere visual examination of the outer casing for visible signs of fluid leaking is all one can do and that is scarcely conclusive; usually need is determined by mileage or tire-cupping instead. But I did not ask for a diagnosis – I assumed that the struts are bad and only asked for a cost-estimate to complete a very specific task. They still gave me no price to replace the struts, even when I asked again upon paying the bill. Obviously, it’s easier just to charge me $65 to say “no deal”. That’s quick and easy money, right? But there’s more.When I was told that the struts didn’t need to be replaced I explained that the rear tires were cupping badly, which suggests the struts are worn or defective. A woman whom I doubt actually has any mechanical expertise offered a number of unhelpful ideas about what could cause that – unhelpful, because they were not only invalid, but ridiculous. One of those suggestions is that the abnormal tire wear on the rear tires was caused by the front-end alignment. She offered a FREE alignment check and while it made no sense, because I had just replaced the tires and she assured me they would call me if it needed adjustment, I agreed to the free alignment check. They didn’t call – they just adjusted the toe setting and added another $75 to my bill.Add to that some bill-padding junk charges including “shop materials” and “Hazmat fee” for a minor adjustment that involves no parts, and sales tax on the whole sum, bringing the total to $170 for something that I did not want, did not approve, and which did nothing to address my only concern -- abnormal tire wear on the rear tires. And still no estimate for replacement of struts – the only thing I asked for.I’ve relied on them for many years and looking back, I see depriving me of the ability to give informed consent is a persistent business pattern. Read through their reviews and you’ll find similar complaints interspersed among all the many satisfied reviews of those who are easy to please and eager to review nicely – just as I used to be. Check the BBB website and you will find Harlan Automotive is not BBB-accredited, and at least one other person wrote a complaint similar to my own. If you don’t care what it costs to fix your car or even if you’re being treated fairly, they’ll probably satisfy you with their work. That’s something, but not enough for me, anymore. I will never return.

Harlan Automotive is a great place to get your car serviced! They work very quickly and are very professional! I always recommend them to everyone!

We were told the battery was the problem and that they would charge almost $400 to replace it. We replaced it ourselves for about $125. In the end this wasnt even the issue, the cable to the battery was so we almost paid a total of $500 for incorrect diagnostics and a battery we didnt need. Would not recommend.

I like the fact Harlans uses tech to keep me informed, remind me, asks for feedback. Its like going to the doctors office. And they are friendly. The fellow who took my van in apologized for being late but it was OK because stuff happens and I wasnt in a rush.

Harlan’s was very helpful when my son’s vehicle quit working while at college. We asked for a diagnostic check of the problem. The office staff immediately let us know that there is a fee for that, which we expected. It was very reasonable. Following the diagnostic check, Harlan’s called us before proceeding. I also received several text updates letting me know where in the process they were with our vehicle.

Car broke down over the weekend. We managed to get the car there on Sunday. We left the keys in the dropbox with a note. I spoke with them at approximately 7:15 am. I told them what the car was doing. I got a text at 8am saying that a technician was diagnosing the car. Shortly after I got another text to call about the estimate. I told them to fix it. The car was ready to be picked up at 10:30am. When my son went to get the car after he got out of class he paid for the repairs. The total ended up being a little over $200 cheaper than the estimate. I definitely recommend Harlan Automotive. They aligned my 2014 F-150. Harlan performed an excellent service with a fair price. They even gave me a computer print out showing the degree / degrees that the tires were adjusted. My truck drives great and I don’t have to worry about my tires wearing uneven, especially what tires cost today.

I went in to get a security system on my car removed. Services was fast and affordable. However, I cannot give 5 starts because individuals working in the shop who are customer facing were not wearing a mask, which is a threat to customer safety.

I have a 2008 Chrysler Crossfire, basically it’s a Mercedes inside. Car would not start, took to dealer, kept a month and no progress. Moved her to Harlan where they were able to quickly diagnose and fix. I WILL NEVER take this car anywhere else. They kept me informed and their price was reasonable for the fixes they had to do. So HAPPY to now have a mechanic here that I trust with my car.

**DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS FOR AUTO REPAIRS** One star for this place is too many! Not only do they overcharge, but they also diagnose repairs that are unfounded. When my daughter, a student at MSU, went to pick up her car after we received the astronomical estimate, they informed her that there was a $67 charge to “look” at the brakes plus shop and hazmat fees. These charges were not disclosed upfront. When I called to address the charges, the owner rudely stated that there was no disclosure other than a sign posted somewhere in the shop. Please do yourself a favor and get your repairs done elsewhere!

While traveling on the Interstate through their area, we were involved in a serious accident that caused significant undercarriage damages to our car. As AAA approved mechanics, Harlan provided us with service that was immediate, FAST, and thorough. They were diligent about explaining everything going on with the car.... and they did not charge for unneeded extras. Harlan is also impressively techno-savvy....and we loved receiving regular texts regarding the status of our car as it underwent examination and repairs. I would recommend this family owned and operated business to everyone!

They’re extremely helpful and work very quickly. I’ve had to take my car in twice while going to Murray State. I’ve always gone to the same guy for my vehicles back home, so going somewhere new, away from home, made me pretty anxious; however, Harlan Automotive made all anxiety I had go away. I love these guys! They are always very knowledgeable and considering I own a Saab, is a very big reassurance. Everytime I have had work done it has been finished very quickly.

We have a 2,000 mile drive coming up. Our check engine light was on so we brought it in. It was an issue with the cylinders which is an expensive fix, but Harlan Automotive did a great job in getting the car back to us as quickly as possible. And the car runs significantly better than before. Would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Harlan automotive has been taking care of my car since I moved to the area, and I’ve had nothing but good experiences working with them. Service is fast and efficient, but even on extremely busy days everyone in the shop is friendly and easy to work with. They do a great job at communicating what your car needs and what they recommend, but I’ve never felt like I was being pressured into any unnecessary repairs or spending more than I needed. Things can run a little expensive, but this is definitely a “you get what you pay for” kind of place. And in this case it’s quality parts, service, and technical skills.

Trustworthy and transparent. You get what you pay for. The prices are substantially higher than most of the mom-and-pop garages around here, but theyre considerably lower than the dealership, and they arent going to try to mess around and sell you stuff you dont need. They arent going to change what they recommend based on how much they think you know about vehicles. Harlans is consistent, professional, the garage and waiting room are *very* clean, they provide detailed inspections with pictures & videos through a very cool website so you can view it whenever you want, they text you with updates as they work on your vehicle, and theyll answer all of your questions. The people at Harlan know what theyre doing.Ive been told it is stressful when women call shops because they usually talk to gruff, rude men who treat them like theyre stupid, so if you are a woman looking to get your car worked on, Harlan is a good choice. The person who answers the phone is a really nice, patient lady, so you wont feel uncomfortable talking with her and asking questions.Ive been messed over and spent over a thousand dollars on nonsense repairs at other shops in town, and one of the cheapest repair shops even took a problem on one of our vehicles and made it worse, then tried charging me for fixing it. But not at Harlans. Would definitely recommend. The service is way above and beyond anything else Ive experienced in Murray.

I had my transmission go out on a hunting trip and was honestly hesitant to bring my vehicle in to a smaller shop for such a big job and am happy to say they did a great job. Furthermore, I had an issue with a tire that they were happy to fix and did so at a great price. Finally, the owner contacted me directly to ask how they did. That goes a long way and I was thoroughly impressed with the customer service and level of care.

It has taken me longer than it should to write a review (2 months). My Niece was travelling from Louisville to visit us here in Murray. We had recently moved ourselves and only being here a month we were still getting familiar with the area. When she called panicked that her car had stalled on 641, we immediately called a local tow service and met them where she was stranded. When they got to her, they were unable to get the car started. They recommended Harlans and we agreed to have it towed there. I called to let them know the vehicle was heading to them. The woman that answered the phone was very patient and helpful, as I was being a little anxious. But she informed me that they would be looking for the vehicle and not to worry, that as soon as it came in they would keep me informed. And they did!! I recieved updates via text that the vehicle had arrived, that it was checked in, that a technician was diagnosing and soon after, I got a very detailed report on the car. I was even informed when they had an estimate ready. I have never been so impressed with a repair shop than I was with Harlans! When my niece picked up the vehicle, the woman behind the counter welcomed her warmly with a big smile, easing her anxiety of going through a breakdown, and even offered her a peanut butter cup!I cannot thank you enough for your service and getting my Niece back on the road. If I could I would give 10 stars!

Harlan Automotive has taken care of our vehicles for many years now. Our latest vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse christened Serenity, has received careful attention from their skilled mechanics. My husband is a disabled Veteran with COPD, so we have avoided going anywhere we dont absolutely have to in order to keep him safe. Harlans was kind enough to pick up our Serenity and take her in for servicing and then bring her back home to us so my husband wouldnt be exposed to anything. We are very grateful for that.
