If I could give this place less than 1 star I would! The store has some neat lookin things especially when the owner presents them as unique but they are not!! My friend bought a gift of what we were told was a unique map which the owner claimed she had only ever seen 2 of in her time. Later in the day after purchasing the map we walked by the store to see the same exact map hanging up. I confronted the owner about her shady business to which she denied all claims even though the evidence was right in front of her face! This is the worst kind of store and she is the worst kind of person. I will never recommend and further warn other visitors of New Orleans to not shop here as she is a fraud and a terrible person!!!
They were selling slave shackles and had a nice little sign saying were sorry if this offends you but its legal and were in America and the American way is commerce. If you dont like it, please leave. We left.
There are many beautiful items in the store and the owner is very helpful. However, some items are undoubtedly fake. An antique “one of a kind” garnet poison ring was selling for $135 but the exact ring can be found at Walmart for $17. I’m glad I did my research! Beware!
Rare Finds is truly just that. Sue is a treasure herself, always cheerful and helpful whether buying or just browsing. She seems to always have new inventory. Whether looking at bronze statues, odd New Orleans memorabilia, or adding to my collection of walking canes you can always come away with a truly rare find.
I bought an antique hat-pin that is sterling silver and absolutely beautiful. Although the store was 1 minute from closing-time, the sales lady was friendly and patient with me and my husband! Thats a rare find.
I recently bought what I was told was an antique mens gold and sapphire ring from this store. When purchasing the ring I even asked the sales person (who was also the owner) point blank if the stone was real and was informed it was. Well it turns out the sapphire is actually blue glass and Ive even gotten a formal appraisal to that effect. The owner in spite of the overwhelming evidence refuses to believe that the ring is fake and allow me to return the ring for a refund. I have been forced to dispute the charges for this ring with my credit card company. Needless to say I will never shop here again and if you are smart neither will you.
I visited Rare Finds August 2019 and purchased several items while on vacation.
