The review of the vehicle was a quick process. Our proposal was done in a matter of minutes. The offer was very fair and we accepted. Everyone was pleasant to work with. They worked hard to get us in and out in a timely manner. We didnt even purchase anything from them.
The online appraisal process was simple. However, I waited for 2.5 hours at Carmax. My vehicle was looked at and appraised rather quickly, but the paperwork sat for quite a while. I believe it was just an oversight. When they did address the paperwork, it went rather quickly and most of the staff was helpful.
Had an appointment to test drive a car. Arrived by my scheduled time. The greeter when you first walk in was very friendly. He told us to go ahead to the lot and check out the car and a sales person would be right with us. A half hour later no sales person. 45 minutes later no sales person. Walked off the lot. 3 stars for the nice guy.
I purchased a vehicle from CarMax in July 2021. During that purchase we waited for 2 hours for the business office to complete the transaction. The waiting area allows you to see into the business office where nothing but a party was happening. I finally had to ask for the manager to intervene or they could terminate the transaction. He got things moving.Now 10/5/2021 I try to contact CarMax Newark, DE business office, because I realized that my temporary tags had expired 9/19/2021. At the time of the sale, the business office agent explained that the plates and registration documents would arrive at their location. They will call upon arrival for my pickup or that I can request them to be fed exec.Today ….10/5/2021, I called the business office continuously from 10 am until noon. The phone would ring exactly 4 minutes and 30 seconds with no voice mail option and then the call would disconnect.At noon, I got smart and requested sales rather than the business office at the Newark, DE location. After the phone rang for another 4 minutes and 30 seconds, I was connected to a CarMax agent in North Carolina. She was very nice, but she experienced the same frustration that I endured for 2 hours. She then tried to get a manager, again to no avail. Ultimately after 30 minutes with this agent, she could only email the manager at that location and the manager of the business office. She promised follow up today. It is now 6 pm and no responses.I warned that agent that I would be traveling within 5 miles of this location on 10/6/2021 and that I would arrive in person, including all my attitudes and frustrations with the lack of customer service. I trust that this will get resolved tomorrow or I will warn every customer that I see in the show room of their absolute disdainful attitudes and lack of customer service.I will never purchase another car from CarMax, and I warn you as a potential buyer that you have many other options to purchase your next vehicle!!!
We arrived precisely at 4:30pm for our express delivery appointment.The business office was not prepared with our paperwork. No way to run a business. A gentleman made his way over to my seat and kindly offered me a bottle water. How sweet and customer focused.
Got an online quote and made an appointment. Everything was on schedule and they honored the quote given online. We had a tricky paperwork situation and they handled it very well. We got a fair price for our car and everyone we worked with was very helpful and friendly.
Greg and Andrea were Phenomenal. Greg went above and beyond to keep me informed during the whole purchase process and Andrea made sure I drove off with a car I absolutely LOVE. I am extremely pleased with my carmax experience. The bow on the car was a nice touch.

We were greeted when we walked into the showroom. The salesman was friendly and professional. He listened to what we were interested in seeing. We had another vehicle in mind that I saw on line. We ended up purchasing a vehicle that was in the showroom which was newer and less mileage . Our salesman was patient while we made our decision and took care of us. This is the third vehicle we have bought from Carmax and have always had a pleasant experience.
My daughter and I both got new vehicles and hers had a transmission problem that they took forever to fix. She was without her new car for weeks. My vehicle has two chips in the windshield but they are so backed up in the service center that I havent even taken it to get fixed yet fearing Ill be without a vehicle and they dont offer you a loaner.Positive: Buying process was smooth.
When I first went to CarMax I didn’t think they were going to work with me because of my credit ratings. I was totally blown away whenever everything was said and done and I ended up purchasing a car. My next vehicle purchase will definitely be with CarMax again I’m very satisfied with them.
These folks took advantage of us in a very serious and unforgivable way when the vehicle sold to us was not only prone to a large amount of mechanical issues, usually associated with what dealerships refer to as a lemon. However, the vehicle was sold to usand approximately 6 months into our purchase the cars transmission, a plethora of sensors, and one of the door locks ceased functions. Only for us to find out every single issue on our vehicle was associated with a corresponding RECALL which Carmax does not have to address or state to potential buyers and will actively avoid telling you about sonthey can get the vehicle off their lot and out of their responsibility. Win+win for them......for us, not so much. Especially with that super helpful 30 day warranty 🤔
I stopped there before they were open (so no salesmen contact)to look around. Theyve got a large variety of very nice automobiles, comfortably priced. Their cars are set up in a huge lot and aligned by manufacturers, which made it extremely easy to see and fine the models I was interested in.
My sales experience was great working with Dan in newark!But talking to service has not been so great, there seems to be a brake issue with the car and something was supposedly fixed but when I went to my mechanic he said he can not tell of any parts that were replaced on the brakes at all. I’ve called and left several messages with the service department and no response. So I ordered all new rotors and pads for the car on my own.
I made an appointment, met with a sales rep while my vehicle was being appraised, walked the lot and saw so many vehicles that I was interested in, and never felt pressured once. I got a great offer on my car and the process was quick and easy!
This was my first experience with selling a car. CarMax made the highest offer and upon seeing the car confirmed the same offered price. Employees were friendly. I had my check in less than half an hour … the time it took for a test drive and body check.
My sales associate was very nice and professional. However, the waiting for the papers and the car to come out was a ridiculous hold time.I came in with a check so I didn’t need financing. I figured my experience would go quickly. I ended up being there the same time length as a person who was going through financing.They even gave me the wrong registration card. Good thing my sales associate caught that.

I was very pleased with price they give me to buy my car. i told salesperson i was buying a new car from my nearby Honda dealer and asked him a couple times how long to turn over car and get check and was told it would be pretty quick. it was not quick. When i got there they said about 1/2 hour and it took an hour which is fine except my ride waited 45 minutes which was upsetting.
I am checking all my options as I am in need of a dependable, cost-effective vehicle very soon. They have a fairly good selection on line.

My experience at CARMAX was great. It was my first time selling a car to CARMAX so I wasnt sure what to expect. The staff were very friendly and cooperative. They treated me very well and were very professional. The wait time was a drawn out but all was well in the end and I am very pleased.
We live in Tallahassee, paid $600 to have it transferred but this dealership sold to someone else simply because they wanted meet their quota. The worst practice ever!

The process of getting the car was easier than I thought n the staff is nice but when it came to me getting services done under warranty I had to take the car back a few times n still I wasnt fixed right n I had to end up paying one mechanic on my own
I was there on may 10 and was approved for a car that i did not test drive or seen. you were getting ready to close. i hate this car. i have been back every day for the past 2 weeks. i have picked out several car different car on the size that i need for my husband. he is with a wheel chair, a walker, and now an oxygen. you approved me of 17 plus dollars but when i try to get a cheaper one to fit what i can pay you denied me. this dont make sense to me. you are forcing me to make payment of 383.00 a month when i can afford about 311 or 315 a month. i am on a fixed income. i will turn this car in and will not deal with carmax again. i will also tell my friends not to go there as well. you really dont care about that. thank for nothing

My 2018 Lexus ES from Carmax is the 3rd vehicle Ive purchased from them. The process from start to finish was super easy. To top it off, I got an amazing deal on my trade! From being greeted right away, to the friendliness of all the staff, this was a stress-free experience. My only complaint is the cleanliness of the car; the cleaning/detailing job was poor. Ive purchased other cars from the Carmax in Lancaster, PA. Those guys blow Newark out the water when it comes to detailing.Overall, a great experience. Will purchase from Carmax again.

Car had a service needed indicator lit on warning lights. I was assured it had been serviced but indicator was not reset. Attempted to make an appointment with your Maple Shade store to habit reset and could not get get an appointment for over 3 weeks I finally took the car to an Audi dealer (got one in less than a week) paid for reset out of my pocket. Your maintenance department at Maple Shade said she could walk me through it on the NOT TRUE requires computer. Tried calling salesman for assistance 3 days of being on hold for over 45 minutes each time I callrd I just gave up. Your sales department was helpful at purchase time was very good, your after sales service is HORRIBLE.
Another update on 4/10. Spoke to someone in corporate 10 days ago and they are handling my request. I guess that means 10 days with no response. This is unbelievable. Can someone in corporate call me back?????!!???? Or email me???Purchased new vehicle last year and it is impossible to get in touch with their service department. Have left 4 messages, now their voicemail is full, and also tried calling them and was on hold twice for over 25 minutes before dropping.....Update, after three weeks of calling and conversations with someone in corporate, they still can not locate a service manager to call me back. I am still waiting for someone to help address our concerns. They have delayed enough that we are now out of the 90 day period for the warranty.What is the point of offering a warranty if you aren’t available for your customers????

Within minutes I was paired up with a sales man named Mark Bell. I generally buy cars outright and are older, this being my first time financing anything Mark made my experience stress free. He listened to my wants/needs, and was able to work within my budget and pair me with a car that checked my boxes and did not break the bank. Mark has a positive, friendly, kind and attentative attitude. 10 out of 10 I would recommend Carmax and Mark to friends and family and already have in just a few short days.
Worst car buying experience. Impossible to get through the phones, no one returns the phone calls. Regardless of the times Ive called there has never been a good conversation. Ive spent hours on hold and I’ve had to drive there multiple times to have my questions answered which is over an hour away. My issue still has not been resolved, I purchased/ traded in my vehicle over a month ago and they still have not sent the payoff to my bank correctly, which has resulted in multiple double car payments $$$$.
I transport vehicles for CarMax and theyre all very nice low mileage vehicles ...

The wife & I purchased a 2015 Buick lacrosse as a third vehicle. I have purchased many cars in my life and this was by far the most efficient way to buy a pre owned car. Their selection was outstanding and the buying process was quick and painless. There was a minor issue with the car, but they fixed it quickly and without cost to us. They even gave us a loaner while we waited for the repair. I am buying all future vehicles from them as I enjoyed my experience.

I have recently been at Carmax for two different reasons: 1. to request a car be shipped from Louisiana to Newark, Delaware so as to buy it, and 2. to sell a car to Carmax. I was super pleased with both.
While I love the vehicle I purchased through CarMax, my experience with them has been awful. You make appts to see cars but then you sit and wait. When I purchased the car, I had to wait 45 minutes to meet with the finance team when there were no other customers in front of me. Its now been more than 6 weeks and I have yet to receive the information I need to register my vehicle and Ive called 2x in the last 2 weeks and they said they were putting it in the mail, but I have not received it. I am now on hold yet again for 30 mins. Do yourself a favor - find your dream car somewhere else

Really nice facility, Ill give them that. I wanted to sell my vehicle outright (2015 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon). After 45 minutes of looking over every single detail of my vehicle, marking down every single thing they could find (rust on the bottom), they offered me $15000. Carvana offered me $19500. I ended up going with my Jeep dealership since it was a trade in and netted me $19000. Thats $4,000 difference on a vehicle that holds its value extremely well.Id probably consider buying a used car from them, but I wont waste my time going into the facility anymore for a sell. After the low ball, I would definitely compare their sale prices to other dealerships before purchasing.
We were super excited to get our car from CarMax since we could do the bulk of the purchasing process online. I was told that the in-store portion would take about 25 minutes, but definitely no more than an hour. But what did I expect after waiting for someone to answer the phone for almost two hours?! But I think what made this worse was that it wasn’t crowded! Yet, it was fully staffed. AND our car hadn’t even been pulled for our pick up, even after waiting an hour and a half. It was also pretty annoying to have an employee sitting next to me in the waiting area complaining about her job. We have the right to a bad day at work, but to say it in front of customers that have been waiting a while for service?

I just recently purchased a truck from Carmax in Newark, De. I would never buy a car from them ever again. They honestly don’t know what they are doing. I went today to get my tags for my vehicle.. was told they were there to be picked up. Went there and now They informed me that I had to tag the vehicle myself because they don’t do Maryland tags. Which is incorrect. They made a mistake on their end by putting my truck in as title only now I have to go to the MVA and take care of tagging my truck.
Went and was not told a wait time to talk to someone. We walked around for about 10 min. All the cars were way over priced. Packed full of people. We walked away.

My sales person was extremely helpful. After sitting trying to complete the finance info the computers crashed, we could no longer wait for the system to reboot, this was after an hour of waiting. Came back the next day to complete the paperwork, upon leaving I realized that my car had not been detailed. The inside of the car was dirty, there was an expired Subway gift card in the glovebox and candy wrappers in the back seat.

I’d like to start off by saying Luke Hamilton went above and beyond expectations with making the process of buying a vehicle an easy and relaxed experience. After going from dealership to dealership, and then dealing with an employee who didn’t leave such a great impression at Carmax the first time around - Luke really picked the ball up where it was dropped and made the entire experience worth it and comfortable. It’s something that’s truly hard to do and I appreciate every second of his time with helping us. I will hopefully be buying from him in the future again, and sending everyone I know his way.Carmax itself is a great no-haggle company and helped me find a car in my budget that I was comfortable getting after I’ve been given the run around from other dealerships. After having a total loss on my vehicle, they finally made something I’ve been stressing about an actual easy process. 10/10, I would love to buy from Carmax again in the future.

I brought in my car for a windshield chip that needed to be repaired. The service associate also asked how my car was and if there was anything else I needed looked at. I had a concern about my brakes and he made sure to have it checked out. The concern was solved and throughout the process I was kept up to date on the status of my vehicle. I have previously purchased 2 vehicles from CarMax. This vehicle made the third. The third purchase was not like the previous two. The vehicle was a vehicle transfer from another CarMax. I was told it arrived and even set up an appointment. When I arrived at CarMax they didn’t know the car was there. They car was serviced but the tps light remained on along with a broken windshield wiper. I pointed it out. The manger had them look at it and they kept the vehicle overnight. Overall my third purchase wasn’t like the previous 2.

Very patience. Check Engine light came on when testing and they kept the car and fixed what needed to be fix and more. Lend me a nice car in the mean time. First...all precautions for safety during the pandemic were evident. Every employee I saw observed safety procedures, down to cleaning the customer-used keyboards. Nice. Overall a painless and trouble free experience buying a car. And our saleswoman was top notch --- knew her stuff and possessed the right human relations attitude! First time for us at CarMax...think well do it again!
