My First time in this store about a week ago. Walked out. Unfortunately staff didnt even acknowledge my presence after 7min of being there, there was only myself and another person, I saw at least three staff members.I hope you guys can do a little bit better. After asking if someone can take my order, the answer was something like you were by the register and we werent sure, I answered, Ive just never been in this store before... after saying that, Ive been told that they are short staffed, to what my answer was that there are only two people here. The other customer - lady with the little kid was nice to say that she ordered a lot, and in fact I heard what she ordered and it wasnt a lot ))) 27$ with taxes, but she for some reason thought that saying that will help this uncomfortable for the staff situation, it didnt.(so apparently the order placing is being done at the very end of the stand, which I didnt happen to see a clear signage for)For the future guys - Instead of telling the customer that we are short - staffed just say : sure well take your order in a minute - THATS IT GUYS ! Super simple )), but it didnt click for some reason. So, I just left, because there was another customer that walked in and went straight to the proper area to place the order - I didnt want to disturb anyone any further.Maybe next time, if therell be one.Dont hate me, just learn from this. I didnt take it personal, so neither should you. Business as usual.
Good flavors and good ice cream. Usually has people in it.
Ice-creams are very good and tasty but I m agreed on some of the reviews here, the shop is dirty and people that work there are not the most friendly people. Also nobody wear a mask and there is not real separation between clients, employees and ice-cream.
The best butter cashew ice cream a person could taste. they have it here. My absolute favorite. Everyone should try it. Its super delicious!!
Kids like a lot the water park inside the hotel, the room is also very nice
30 min line for 4 customer in front of me (with 3 servers)Then another 25 min to make the 3 coffees i ordered and more then 8 min to serve 1 scoop icecremUNRISENABLE PRICES FOR WHAT YOU GET (IF THEY WILL CUT 1$ FROM THE PRICE OF ONE SCOOP IT WILL STILL CONSIDER EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET) anb holding me for more then an hour in there store to serve 3 coffee and a scoop of not great icecrem.....They should consider paying for their customers time,Ill never be back there again.
I bought a mango banana smoothie and it’s was absolutely gross, but that’s my fault getting a smoothie at a ice cream shop. I came back a hour later because I still had a full smoothie and I asked someone name Fred if they have a refund policy; unprofessionally he says “i don’t know somewhere in a book” he offered me a milk shake, but if I wanted a frappe then I would’ve just ordered that... I want to know the refund policy.
JP Licks is normally a great icecream shop. I have been numerous times. I would suggest that if your in the mood for a late night snack dont go to this location as even though the sign says they are open till midnight the employees clean up about 1hr early so they should really put the close at 11pm. (Not a good look for JP Licks as a company). Unfortunately this location according to the employee has a policy they cannot make frappes (milk shakes) after 10:55pm even though they close at midnight. So if you do go to a JP Licks which is a great ice cream shop dont go to this location as they might have policy on not being able to serve you something.
Yum yum! 🍨 whenever my friends and I brainstorm where we should get ice cream, this place comes to mind immediately so half or more of the time we resort to here. Good service, fair price, great ice cream! I strongly recommend it
Still the greatest ice cream in the States.
Creamy Ice cream in creative flavors
I had the salted caramel cookies and cream with the oreo cake batter flavor with just some mini m&ms and unlike most ice cream shops... these ice creams are so delicious on their own they dont really need toppings. They are like a meal on their own. If you love anything oreo this is the place for you as they have a variety of versions of it. Very fast service and benches outside and across the street in the parking lot to eat.
I went there 8/2/2021 it was THE NEWTON CENTER MA.WORLDS WORST HOT FUDGE SUNDAE I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE FUDGE TASTED LIKE BITTER COFFEE OR WHISKEY IT WAS AWFUL ILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN FIRST IMPRESSION REALLY IS TRUE and they forgot to put marshmallow syrup on it and the fudge was like frozen never in my life SMH NEWTON CENT ER R
Cant beat the extensive hours, but the ice cream itself is decent for the premium they charge! We were pleasantly surprised when we called on a Wednesday night asking how late they would be open, midnight during the summer! (After our dismay that Cabots Ice Cream was closed for vacation for the entire week...)They have some unique flavors and the typical toppings but nothing special that keeps me up all night salivating. The location in Newton Center is also very recognizable with their cow print sign. When we have a hankering for something sweet and in the area we will stop by but otherwise there are plenty of other options. Also this is more of a grab and go type place. Theres only about 5 stool seating options available and the outdoor bench seating for warmer months. Sad that Sweet Tart FroYo place is now gone so this is basically the only option. I guess they just have a prime location right smack in the middle of Newton Centre.
You’ll pay three or four times more than you would for organic quality store bought ice cream. The quality here is just average, isn’t organic- wouldn’t recommend it.
Very small ice cream but good
They start to close up way too soon. I’ve been in 3 times 45 min before close when I couldn’t get what I wanted because they had cleaned up or put it away.
I love J.P. Licks
Expensive but good. Try the hot fudge sauce
The best ice scream place in newton!
Wish they had more dairy free flavors!
They definitely overwork their employees so much. I’ve been around there after closing and the employees look so tired and worked to the bone. People complain about no frappes after 10:55pm but one shouldn’t digest dairy at that hour anyway. This JP Licks is keeping people safe and healthy!!! Also why would you order pints of ice cream at an ice cream shop that you could literally by for way less money at a grocery store? Idk. Hot take.
Never dissapoints
Great ice cream and vibe but bring enough money and no recycling...
Rude, disorganized, slow. Never going back.
JP Licks is solid but I find it a little too sweet and honestly, I prefer other options nearby. We are going to different nearby ice cream shops weekly throughout this summer favorites at the top so far are Wally’s Wicked and Ron’s.
I ordered cookies and cream not only did it taste terrible but they also messed the order up, I had vanilla in it! My friends also had messed up orders and shared similar feelings towards the terrible ice cream. Barf!
Left my wallet here and when I called they had it and everything was in it. The only problem was they told me they couldnt mail it to me because of liability issues. However this was coming from a worker and not the owner or Regional Manager. I lived in N.J. and he told me I had to drive back and get it and I was 2 1/2 hrs away closer to home. I appreciated the fact that when i found someone to pick it up for me everything was in it. Great ice cream and Great group of young people working there!!!!!
Delicious ice cream. Bring back the hemp cookies and cream!! I also would love more dairy free flavors.
Best ice cream in Newton, by far. For those trying to find dairy and soy-free ice creams that are decent and tasty, this is the place.Make sure to check the flavors of the month and go early in the month. These flavors tend to be the dairy-, soy-free options that can often be tasty. They run out fast.Great place for a night out with ice cream!
JP licks is a Boston establishment. Always homemade, great quality, not full of air like some cheaper brands. They are fair trade, roast their own coffee, and the flavors of ice cream are changing monthly. They also have a huge selection of yogurt, sugar free, and dairy free options. This location is small inside, only 5 or 6 seats to sit. Thats the only drawback.
Cappuccino Crunch 👍
Love the ice cream but sometimes service is very slow, even annoying. I shouldnt have to wait for 20 min for ice cream. Worth waiting? Depends on your sugar cravings I guess. Not me. Prices could be better, on the high end Id say.
Cookies n Cream so good! Loved this place. Crazy long line but went by quickly and great ice cream. Great summer night in Bostons Newton!
Great local ice cream with large servings. Very kid friendly and they have smaller sizes that anyone can order if you just need to fill that ice-cream fix. Their Dairy Free Sorbets have been great for the vegan crowd.
Good ice cream, nice location
Kids always love it! Definitely not priced friendly.
Good ice cream but the setup is not friendly for kids
Love the food, barista didnt seem entirely thrilled with our continued presence (we did stay for a while past when wed finished.) I always make sure to go when Im in the area. The Oreo ice cream is particularly amazing.
Its a little pricey as far as ice cream goes - but not anything too crazy considering that this is Boston and prices are, in general, pretty inflated for these kinds of treats. The staff is pretty amusing. Maggie in particular is extremely kind and accommodating.
Amazing as always
Worst banana split. Frozen strawberries and bananas! 3 piece of pecans. Plus my wife had ice cream with cone, it was not crispy
Friendly staff, tasty ice cream, lots of choices...always good!
I WAS IN LINE AND NO WORKER WOULD OFER ME HELP AND THEN WHEN SOMEONE OFFERED ME TO HELP THEY SKIPPED ME AND TOLD ME TO STAND BACK IN LINE BECAUSE I WAS “FOOLING AROUND” like wth. The ice cream is good but the staff act really rude especially to younger kids
Their ice cream is fabulous and all made either in house or regionally. They always have fantastic and unique flavors like fresh mint that had a herbaceous minty flavor and not overly sweet.
JP Licks is kind of an institution in Boston, but the ice cream isnt that great, especially for the price. This particular location constantly has a long line and its really small with barely any seating. I prefer White Mountain in Chestnut Hill
Coffee-Oreo never tasted so good. Jp licks is a must for Boston visitors. The line can be daunting but often moves quickly. Dont come here for a bargain, but the ice cream is worth every cent.
THE place to be on a summer evening in Newton. You will run into EVERYONE here, especially if you stroll the streets with your cone for a bit. Great ice cream, and the People know it.
Very good ice cream. A very popular spot for hanging out in Newton.
Delicious! The man who attended us was very kind
Grab a cow card and get free scoops on your b-day!! Small Oreo cookie cake batter and coffee oreo ina cake cone, Please and Thank you!! 🍦
Great Ice cream with good dairy free options. Extremely Overpriced.
Great although I admit I miss Steves
Great flavors. Fast service.
It was a really good experience all the staff is really nice and they gave me delicious ice cream I give it a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It is OK. Nice selection but I had better ice cream. Very nice service.
Very good ice cream and with interesting gluten free and vegan options. Their soft serve is pretty decent as well.
My favorite. Great icecream with gluten free options too.
Best ice cream around. Its weird to say, but I prefer their ice cream over any local shops in the area. The PB cookies and cream??? Insane!!!
One of my favorite ice cream shops. The chocolate ice cream is so good and not too sweet.
I love Jo licks and go there all the time. Monthly flavors are fun
Great ice cream flavors and toppings. Nice friendly atmosphere.
Great local Ice Cream shop with lots of homemade flavors that change seasonally. Great Ice Cream cakes as well.
The best ice cream in Boston. Id recommend the seasonal noodle kugel flavor.
Good ice cream but not enough seating in this location.
Great place for unique flavors, such as one of my favorites, Cinnamon Burnt Sugar, which tastes like creme brulee. Service was fast and theres a small seating area.
Like all the stores in this local chain: outstanding ice cream and excellent coffee. This shop has a smaller than average seating area however.
Great ice cream just down the street! Love that cookies and cake batter!
Its friendly and inexpensive! Was perfect for such a warm day!
They have very good ice cream and their vegan ice cream is good too
Excellent ice cream and unique flavors but a little pricy...
Im a fan of Macarons but the ice cream in the middle didnt do it for me it overpowered the taste of the macaron.

Great flavor selection, well executed.
Well made ice cream and excellent non-dairy options!
Excellent ice cream and a great location, only problem is a fairly steep price
Great service and delicious kosher ice cream and soft drinks
The absolute best ice cream in Massachusetts ..... its a meal in itself
Great scoopers, tasty ice creams and quick lines.
Great staff, a bit crowded, takes credit cards but tip cash only.
Great ice cream, great staff!
Mint chip hard yogurt is the best.
Not cheap, but the ice cream is great. Very interesting flavors, good service.
So so much fun there.
Ugh, ice cream has the worst aftertaste. I cant stand sweet things :-(
Their ice cream is very amazing and a very nice place to find ice cream
I wish that I could give you a good review but you are consistently out of your vegan ice-creme flavors. You claim to offer vegan flavors but I have been to your store in Newton at least twenty times and each time you have one vegan flavor left. People are waking up to the brutal violence and cruelty inherent to the dairy industry. Cows are pregnant for nine months and then their babies are stolen from them and sent to become veal immediately after their birth. We hijack the Mommas bodies and pump them with hormones so that they will produce four times the amount of milk that they would naturally. Their udders are chronically inflamed and they live in a state of chronic pain. This is why there is such a large percentage of pus in milk. In effect when we are licking ice-creme we are licking puss from the udders of cows that are chained and confined to lives of misery, despair and grief. What right do we have to take their babies from them? We hijack their bodies as though they are here to serve us and not to live out their lives with their children and their communities. They no longer walk on grass. They no longer see sunlight or feel the breeze or nuzzle their babies. On the factory so called farms they live tethered to the milking machines. They are our slaves. If you are having trouble believing the information that I am sharing with you here please educate yourself by watching the documentary Earthlings. We have stolen everything from them and Jp licks continues to perpetuate the heartless lie that ice-creme comes from happy cows and that ice-creme is pure joy. Vegan ice-creme is everywhere. We dont have to support a violent industry. There is vegan ice-creme everywhere now. Check out FoMu in Alston, Fenway and in Jamaica Plane. Their entire ice-creme store is Vegan. Id support JP licks if I saw that they were making an effort to accommodate vegans but zero effort is being made. Having vegan flavors in theory is meaningless.
Great ice cream (though not the best in Boston)
Two small waffle cones for $14? I am flabbergasted.
Employees were very nice! However prices were over the top and the ice cream, well its just ice cream nothing special.
This place is overrated!! Im not from Boston and everyone recommended this place to me and it sucked! They ran out of soft serve ice cream.....your only job is to serve ice cream so how do u run out of the only thing you sell?? Also they serve an Oreo cookie sundae but they sell it with fake Oreos!!! What the hell is that.....that is unacceptable! They also ran out of whipped cream but thats not that big of a deal. The ice cream isnt even that good. So go somewhere else because youll just be disappointed!!!
Best Ice cream sundaes in town!!!
Really good icecream and friendly staff
Love the kalua ice cream
