I was having a b-day party.I didnt think of sitting outside in the heat until the day before. I looked on Farvers website for tents. Found one I liked. Called Farver, it was available, they told me want I needed to rent it. It was a clean, easy to assemble & very nice tent.
I own a construction company. I was doing some humanitarian work in Newton for an elderly couple at no cost they had slip and trip hazards. In order to complete work I needed to purchase a drop cord because my crew did not pack it. I purchased the drop cord from this True Value location. The drop cord had issues. I went back to exchange it and explained what had happened. The employee was very rude and called me a liar and refused to exchange it. I love to support local businesss even though products are generally more expensive then big box stores. I called the owner after completing the project to explain how rude the employee was.The owner accused me of lying about the way the employee handled it. He also said, I know who you are S.O.B! He told me to go F myself and hung up. Ive done several projects around the newton area after this situation. I have taken my business elsewhere and for the rest of my life I will never make big purchases or rent equipment from this location nor will I sub-out to any other contractors which generally include but are not limited to Plumbers, Electricians and Concrete crews that have a store account here. Im also apart of a labor union besides owning my own business and I let them know how you treated one of there union brothers. You sir need to find Jesus. Maybe you where having a bad day and you took out on me your customer. I get it. If you take the time to evaluate how you treated me and would like to make amends please reach out. God Bless you and yours.
Good staff very knowledgeable about many household job issues
Absolutely horrible customer service!! Rented one of their mini skidsteers and used less then 2 hours and it dumped over 9 gallons of hydraulic fluid on my customers concrete and sod.. Me being a mechanic for over 10 years (John Deere & Kenworth) I know my way around equipment.. The machine wouldn’t move from lack of fluid and was after hours so nobody could be reached and no after hours contact. So I checked the machine for the problem, found poor maintenance on the machine filter had spun two turns off the housing and had a rust through hole on the bottom. Rust through a filter doesn’t happen over a week or two let alone a year... I did some research and found Toro recommended the same fluid I use in my stump grinders. That being Mobil 424- over $70 per 2.5 gallons the 9 I put In the machine equals over $250 in just fluid alone. Just to get this machine back loaded on the trailer. Washed the machine and trailer and returned. Called the store and left a message after waiting 30 mins on hold for the owner. I was told he would call me back. That never happened I called at 4:50 and spoke with the owner Scott asked for my money back he refused and said it wasn’t his problem that I should have contacted them and brought it back right away... which I did but had to dump my money into it to get it returned!! Very rude and disrespectful no regards for the customer definitely wouldn’t recommend using the rental center.. Smiths Quality Rental across the street is 100x better....
Great place if you need something and great friendly people
I usually dont shop here. But I decided I would give my business to a local store this go around. I found everything I needed for home & garage storage solutions. The store clerk was amazing. She was very knowledgeable, about what I needed. Also where to find it. I clearly would not have known what I needed if it was not for her. She also helped me load it in to the car. I was very happy with the service, and the purchases I made. I will let all my friends and family know what a great experience I had to day atFarmers True Value.
Always find what cant be found anywhere else in this one-horse town at a decent price. Their kitchenwares and gadget selection is AWESOME and the employees are always friendly and helpful.
Very friendly and helpful. My new go-to place!
The staff running the store today needs a true lesson in customer service!! thats an understatement! weve lived here over 30+ years and I can honestly say: Im disappointed that this is the first time Ive EVER had to launch a complaint about this store. There were no customers in the store during my visit today; I couldnt get waited on with 3 employees stationed up front! I was so taken aback by the service that I called multiple times to speak with a manager. a woman named Michelle ended up lying saying she was the manager. I was hung up on and called back. She repeatedly huffed & said they are too busy & continued with her vulgar tone. I actually recorded the entire conversation because I was in such disbelief that anyone from this store would speak this way to a customer. We always try to shop locally; after this experience, I, along with my family will travel elsewhere!
They fixed my riding mower, runs perfect now!! Great service, great price, great experience! They will definitely get my business again! 👍👍
First time in this store, I was looking for a pipe fitting. As I was looking through the racks, one of the clerks was helping a woman, came down the aisle,, edged in front of me and pushed a cart in my way without a word. When he finished with her, he looked at me, and walked off. No, I wont be back, how rude!
Great experience with and Scott was very very helpfull.
Always shop here as knowledgeable and great service. Never have let me down in 12 years since I moved to Iowa!
Have went here many times, from rentals to shopping, to racing things, very professional and very helpful. Very kind and respectful people, if you havent been here I recommend you stop in.
The Newton True Value is pretty good. Employees are mostly nice. Some of the older workers seem grumpy some times but.. they are old and work at True Value so I guess that’s probably how I would feel too.The store has your basic building supplies, tools, plumbing, etc. They also have some odd items that bigger stores don’t have such as Duco Cement (glue). Neither Lowe’s or Home Depot had this. Best glue EVER.Let’s be realistic here. You can only expect so much from a small store. This isn’t Lowe’s or Home Depot. The store probably doesn’t have the luxury of having prices as low as a big box store. Plus, supply and demand determines pricing and let’s face it, there isn’t exactly another place nearby to buy a lot of the stuff they sell.
Curt was quite helpful,he knew right where to for what I wanted, he always does.
Worst experience ever. Everyone knows that the prices are high but please read all of this experience I just had with the owner Scott Farver. On June 8th 2020 I placed an order with the owner for a part that he charged 41 dollars for and I asked about over night delivery. He told me around 13 dollars and I said go ahead. At this point I paid for the part and he said being the time of day that it most likely will take an extra day. He took my name and number and said to me they will call me when it arrived. 4 days later I go in to find out whats going on to find out the part was sitting on the counter and had been there for 2 days . He then proceeded to say well I should have been called but wasnt, then he wanted 45 dollars for overnight service. When I called him on the price he wouldnt budge. I dropped an f bomb about the lack of service for a part that was overpriced to begin with at which point he took the part from me and told me to leave his store and never come back. He did give me money back. And worst of all, the man never offered an apology as to why I wasnt called when the part arrived 2 days earlier. Horid experience. Randy Griffin, Kellogg Iowa
Very unfriendly clerk. Older lady, long blonde hair, thin. Stone cold heartless. Never says thank you, not one bit friendly. Im never going back only because of her. Very sad, Id leave 0 stars if I could.
Stay away managers are disrespectful to customers. Ownership calls customers idiots when they try and explain the problem.
Good selection. Mostly affordable. Staff is semi-knowledgable on stuff they have. Go to place for tools and the such. :)
We try to shop local when we can. I hadnt been in the store without looking for something specific. I got the chance to wander recently while my husband was getting some supplies for a project. I couldnt believe all the variety for cooking and baking supplies! Definitely will be looking there first in future.
Everyone very helpful. If they dont have it they will try to get it. Pricing is very competitive with the big box stores in Des Moines. Glad to support a local business - besides it takes a min 3 trips to hardware store for DIY plumbing job and best to have a local place to make all those trips. Scott, Doug, Cole and the others are great to work with.
They are great. Ordered the part that I needed for my lawnmower with out any problems. They are always super helpful.
Good equipment. Wonderful people. Fair prices! Thanks much
Helpful and friendly staff
The employees are always friendly and try to make your experience a great one there always friendly and if they dont have it they will let you know when it will be available the checkers are always friendly they have always been there for me when I needed them for something .
Prices like a hardware store bit they have what you need and vely helpful and quick to show you where its at
Horrible overpriced filthy store. Good luck finding something or someone to help you find what you are wanting. Rude employees. Most are obviously minimum wage teens and grumpy old men who dont know what customer servicing stands for. Be careful walking around in the store you could easily hurt yourself with all the clutter all over the aisles and very messy unorganized displays of goods. Gladly taking my business and money to the Des Moines area. Shame on Farvers True Value. Suggest the owner take time out to visit other True Values and see what a real True Value Hardware Store customer experience should be like.
Very rude people been in there last two day people getting short with attitudes
I love Farvers True Value, my only complaint is your website... its terrible, the search functionality very limited. Short of checking your hours or getting phone number its a waste of time to shop on your site.
A place to go for those who know what you need. Very helpful.
Good service and friendly people
4 girls at cash register and the most they could do was call for a man to help. Really?? At least he was extremely helpful and knowledge, but the girls were a waste of payroll.
Good store but some things are overpriced if your after a few small. Items it fine but if you are doing a bigger job you csn save money by making the trip to menards there baracue accessorys are fair priced but the prices on there grills are way to high
They way over priced do not give the refund they say that they will give never use them again if could give zero stars i would have
Charged me for a rental that was already paid for. Did refund the charge only because I my wife had the receipt.
Older people who work there have little to no respect.
After waiting 6 weeks to fix my lawnmower, and being told there were still 5 more to fix before mine. I took it somewhere else to be fixed. It needed 2 snap rings and it was fixed in 5 days including a Sat and Sunday. Got tired of borrowing a mower to now myyard
My mom is cool
Bought a lawn mower from there its broke twice and it takes them like 3 weeks to fix it and they dont offer a loaner so your just hosed!!! Dont buy a mower here!!!
They didnt carry the Delta faucet kit I needed.
Friendly, local, and have a bit of everything. Ill pay a Lil extra to support them.
Pretty pricey but they usually have what you need
Rented a skidloader, bucket and Harley rake from them. Delivery was slow but made up for it with customer service. Thanks and Ill be back for more rentals
Do not buy tools from these people they will not take back a defective product.
