Im a relatively new gun owner, and went through the concealed carry class to be trained in firearms. I have used the gun range multiple times and its a great experience every time. The staff is knowledgeable, understood that I was relatively fresh with firearms and helped me choose the correct accessories for the firearm I purchased. Jeff at the Gun Shop was friendly and informative on my options and selections.

Concealed carry class was informative and engaging, kudos to the owner Steve. A good class to take from beginners to those more knowledgeable.Staff is pleasant, and overall prices are competitive. Only wish list item is having more lanes, though understandable given location constraints.

Havent been inside for years,but its served the Norfolk area for decades. They have a range and courses for permits. Large selection of sporting goods. One stop sporting goods. locally owned. A+

Go To the Amory in Virginia Beach, way better customer service. If the Amory had a range I would only deal with them or any other range for that matter. I will never go to Bobs again for anything. I purchased my ammo from The Amory.

I got help from Ethan yesterday, very knowledgeable guy. Awesome personality and gave great advice. I was nervous about my first firearm purchase but he made it very enjoyable. The atmosphere is good in the store. Excellent selection compared to other shops in Norfolk. 10/10.

It’s great to have this place in the Neon District on the edge of downtown Norfolk. I came here a week ago and used the gun range and it was a lot of fun. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars because it’s old on the inside and the lanes are really close to each other. In addition I was there on a cold day and the ventilation system must bring in air from the outside because it was really cold!

I walked in, pointed to the firearm i wanted, performed a functions check and filled out the paperwork and was done. This place is awesome. I bought my gun here, bought the ammo, and tested it on the range. Staff was very helpful and this place has the largest inventory near me. Definitely recommend. Theres 3 floors to this place and all the staff on all floors was great.

My wife and I drove to Bobs because they were the only store in the area that had the firearm I wanted. We worked with Lori and she was absolutely awesome! We ended up buying another firearm the same day from her for my wife. The process was quick and they even hold ammo back so you can at least walk out with a box in these crazy times.

Ive made a mistake thinking you could buy a handgun out of your own state as a civilian after some digging, I retract my statement to the owner Steve, and am giving him 4 stars only because the Mantis x10 was not in stock and shows on the website that it is, make sure you check local laws as well as your visiting one before you try to make a purchase and making the same mistake i did at assuming that you can just buy whatever you want because you have a CCW, I had no problems with staff or inventory, thanks for correcting me Steve, Godbless

Called ahead to see if I would be able to take something in for their gunsmith, they said that it wouldn’t be a problem. Drove on a cold rainy day around an hour and once I arrived they told me that they weren’t accepting any new items... thanks for wasting half my day.

Bob’s is going down hill. Their customer service use to be good and this experience at the range was horrible. The price isn’t horrible but I’m not paying to feel negative vibes while feeling uncomfortable. The staff was overbearing, serious lack of respect when speaking to customers, and clearly showed they don’t care. I was about to pay for a membership this visit but I won’t be back.

The range is nice, the employees are nice and knowledgeable, and the inventory is extensive, especially for times like these.Why only the one star?, you might ask. Simple: they do not honor dual state residency in accordance with both Federal and State law. On the back of ATF form 4473, Page 6, Question 26(b), it reads if the transferee/buyer has two States of residence and is trying to buy a handgun in State X, he may provide a drivers license issued by State Y and another government issued document (such as a tax document) from State X showing his residence address.Virginia Code also supports this in § 18.2-308.2:2, Subsection C, and cites ATF ruling 2001-5 which says the same thing as the back of the 4473.Bobs Gun Shop has told me that they know the law and it is their business decision to exclude a substantial part of their customer base from obtaining the means to protect themselves.While it is certainly their choice as a private business, I find self-inflicted restrictions preventing law-abiding citizens from their constitutionally protected right is a poor business practice and as a 2A advocate I find it extremely distasteful. As a long term regular customer, I find this to be enough to prevent me from returning and supporting self-inflicted restrictions.Those with out of state IDs who live in Norfolk for school and work, you have been warned. You will want to look somewhere else to obtain the tools necessary to protect yourself.

We always buy our firearms here, and have a great experience every time. We came to shoot this time, and eventually just walked out. We didnt mind waiting, but the downer was the customer service. It wasnt just poor, but purposeful, with snide and smart comments from the range safety, loud enough to embarrass my family in a room of waiting shooters. It was to the point that when he went on break, there were comments in the room from others on his need to practice his social skills.

First time ive there was in 2001. Long story short, i would go just to look around but end up making a firearm purchase. Staff are freindly and knowledgeable. Last visit i was looking at the latest sig sauer and asked staff if i could see it, he asked for my id (drivers lic) and in the process of taking it out, he saw my LE credential and mentioned that the Sig discount for military and LE..ended up buying it. Im a minority btw if it matters.

The staff at Bobs was neither attentive or very helpful to me when I was inquiring about purchases, they made it seem like it was a chore to help me. The process of going to the range was very disorganised. I plan on taking my buisness elsewhere.

I bought my Glock 27 from here with great assistance from the sales clerks. They were friendly and informative. I came in knowing almost exactly what I wanted (choice between a .380 and a .40 Glock). With their help I came to the conclusion that the .40 was a better choice for my needs. The price was reasonable and the background check process time was also relatively quick being that I came in the late evening and was completely approved the next day before noon.My only faults with this store/facility is that their range doesn’t have more eyes on it. The desk for check in is always managed by one man and the range and waiting area is always packed. I don’t know how the desk attendant can ever properly observe for safety as well as attend to the folks in line. Sure he has cameras and does ensure folks walk in with eyes and ears on but that’s about it. I’ve been on the range and heard and seen some alarming things. Their range appears to sort of more so run off of a “trust” style approach. Like they assume that everyone in their is practicing proper gun safety so they kind of let everyone govern themselves.

My background, life long gun owner, bought 15+ guns in 3 different states. I buy a gun every year between June-July for a birthday present.Went to Bob’s on Father’s Day 2020, they were busy as expected and didn’t have the pistol I was loo omg for. No biggie I ended up going with a S&W shield 9mm. It was overpriced by about $20 but I was already there. The state police delayed my background check due to large volume of checks that day(understandable). Was told I would get a call once it’s approved. 5 days went by(state police website said it should take no longer than 3 days). It took me calling 28 times for them to answer and tell me it’s “been approved for a while”. After that call I decided to go with a different dealer and called 58 times over the next six days with no answer. So today I drove there to cancel the order and explained my situation to the clueless gentleman at the door. When I asked why they couldn’t answer my many calls he pointed at the line and said “obviously we’ve been too busy to answer the phone”.In summary they are “too busy” to call me to pick up my firearm, they are “too busy” to answer their phone to cancel my order, they inflated their prices more than other shops in the tidewater area. I understand demand is up right now but it is rude to be “too busy” to help one customer because there are 5 more behind them. They act like you are waisting their time when buying from them.I’ve used “too busy” a lot in this review because that’s the only excuse they gave me for poor communication and being treated like I don’t matter. They will probably be “too busy” to even acknowledge this review and acknowledge their shortfalls. Buy somewhere else!

They have good prices & a nice layout of various firearms on the first floor, second floor is ammunition, third floor is the range.

Great selection of handguns, knowledgeable staff. The only downfall to Bobs is that you can find the same item sometimes $100 cheaper at Bass pro shops.

Arrogant and condescending, think they are smarter than anyone else in the room. Range is in shambles. Only good thing about them is ammo is reasonable. Never felt more unsafe that’s when I used their range. Never again. Called to try to locate a modular unit for a Sig. as soon I started to ask a questions and the sales rep realized he might have to do some work he cut me off mid sentence and said I’m putting you on hold. Just to see if he would come back, I left my phone on speaker phone while carried on with what I was doing around the house. After 20 minutes of him not picking the phone back up I finally hung up. I’ll take my money else where, freedom, chesapeake gun, anywhere but Bobs gun store. Absolutely terrible....

There are times where shooters who, lack enough range time. Seem to be stressed when the range becomes busy. Bobs has not had any injures, to my knowledge. I would just recommend staying with in your lane and get a fell for the shoorers next to you. Speaking up can save a life. I like the rang and try to shoot at least every other week.

Absolutely fantastic experience as a first time buyer. I bought my first handgun (Smith and Wesson M&P shield) about 4 years ago. I went up to the counter and was greeted by the owner. I said I wanted a gun ideal for a beginner looking to get into concealed carry. He recommended the Shield and asked if I ever shot one. I hadnt so he took me upstairs himself and told the range master to let me try out the shield as well as a four or 5 other pistols for concealed carry. I shot about 10 rounds through each gun, settling on the shield because it felt the best in my hand and the best to shoot. Not only did I get to try 5 different pistols out, they didnt charge me for the range, pistol rentals, target or ammo. I shot about 50 rounds, fell in love with the shield, and bought one that day. I feel like the owner didnt charge me for the range time or pistol rentals because he knew I was a serious buyer and was going to get a pistol that day. But he was still extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and I dont think Ive ever had such a better experience with customer service. I continued to buy 3 more pistols from the shop over the next few years. Would recommend to anyone looking to get a firearm in the HR area.

Bob’s indoor range is a great place to go for an afternoon outing. The staff is knowledgeable. They make it easy for folks that know nothing about guns to learn. If you are knowledgeable, it’s also a great place to go. They have ammunition and firearms you can purchase, as well as a number of weapons you can rent.

First impression was pretty rude. I get stopped before I even walk through the door at the door. The guy ask if my license has my current address. I say no, I’m in the military and I’m from Texas. He asks for my order and I say I don’t have them on me. The then tells me they can’t help me. Confused at first, I then ask if it would be ok if I looked around. He asks what for. I tell him I’m looking for a deal on a carry gun. He starts throwing numbers at me, not answering the question. At this point, I didn’t really feel like they wanted me there so I tell them to have a nice day. Will probably look for other places in the future. They have a good facility and great options. They just need to work on there people skills.

Store: This place is great. I highly recommend it for seasoned shooters AND beginners. Im not a gun expert by any means but friends of mine are and we both praise it highly. The staff is super helpful and if you tell them you dont know a lot about something they dont look at you like a fool but will take the time to explain it to you with respect and make you more knowledgeable about what youre interested in. Theres absolutely no pushy sales tactics and everything is told like it is. I overheard one salesmen telling a customer how he could get one gun a little cheaper online and have it shipped to them (the gun shop).Shooting range: This place has its own indoor shooting range and offers a wide variety of guns that they sell available for rent at the gun range so you can try before you by, which to me as a newer gun user think is really great. The range is usually pretty busy so expect a 10-15 minute wait time when its not to busy and up to an hour when it is. Targets and ammunition a plenty is available here as well.They carry a variety of ammunition, holsters, flashlights, and other accessories as well as a decent knife selection. Theyre not overpriced and reasonably priced for a brick and mortar gun shop and the sales can be pretty good. I really cant say enough praise about Bobs Gun Shop and would really recommend it to everyone.My advise if youre a new shooter or just interested is to simply walk in and go up to any of the employees behind the counter and just tell them Im a new/newer shooter and would like some help and youll be amazed with the help you receive even if you dont buy anything (but youll probably want to :))

Needed smith work on a replica 1873 revolver of mine. Finished in great time at a reasonable cost considering the nature of the gun and parts required. Absolutely no complaints about work or pricing, but staff is decidedly listless and lacks purpose in general customer interactions. Getting through the normal paperwork and checkout process here is shockingly slow. Almost always see only one guy working which slows business to a linear crawl. But, if youre lucky (i.e. the only person there) or willing to wait, actual service quality is very good.

Bought a handgun here which was a good experience. However, their shooting range is the reason for the 1 star. I have never felt so unsafe at a range in my life. The lack of oversight and poor habits by gun renters and owners alike made me fear for my wife’s life and my own. Rapid firing on the firing lane by some kids. Loose aiming by several people. I don’t care if the gun is unloaded and slide locked. One guy unbelievably looked down his barrel and had it casually pointed at someone sitting. Way too much responsibility is held on the kids at the counter. They can’t enforce any standard on the lack of discipline by the patrons. I’ll never return again.

Its been over 4 years since Ive shot a weapon since I was discharged from the Army. I was a little nervous being around fire arms I thought I lost my touch. The environment was very warming and inviting. I was with some friends to go shoot at the range. I rented a M9 hand gun and I liked it. I actually had fun. The rental clerk was kind, well informed and helpful at giving tips on good shooting technics. I look forward to coming back. This place is awesome. The employees have great customer service and treat everyone equally with respect and courtesy. I plan on going to sign up for classes to get my licence.

People are great and friendly which is not my experience in most gun stores. Great inventory with a ton of guns in stock. Would be 5 stars but the lady on the second floor that runs the ammo shop has a horrible attitude! I have been there numerous times and she has never had a smile on her face or talked to me like I was a person. I resort to buying ammo elsewhere because of her.

The range is terrible. Prices are not worth my business. They generate enough business from a lacking of solid competition that they are very comfortable. Theyll gladly sell you a gun telling you their range can accommodate it, while the range master (in the range upstairs) will tell you you cant shoot said gun at their range. Luckily there is a much better range not too far from there and much better deals can be found online.

Good selection at reasonable rates. Good price for range time, and good policy on bringing dates to shoot with.Range staff can be a bit short with customers and sometimes treats people as if they are ignorant when they may not be. Sales staff is very courteous, however. Range can get overly busy at times.

This is by far the nicest gun shop I’ve ever been to. Their selection is really good and their staff is extremely courteous. We went in and talked to one of their employees Shane ready to purchase a G26, but I was skeptical if I would be as proficient as I was with the G19. Shane suggested that I rent a G26 and shoot the G19 side by side and feel the difference and if the additional ability to conceal fame at the cost of performance. Their range is small but nice and if there’s a wait they have an intercom that they call your name on. Their staff are not “fanboys” of any gun from what I saw and respect customers preferences. Also my wife was looking at buying a carry pistol and the staff spent time with her and her preferences to find her the gun she wanted (she always wants an external thumb safety). Overall it’s a really nice gun store with staff that is knowledgeable but not condescending and if you ask for their advice they will help you with your firearm needs and go over their personal pros and cons for different products. Highly recommend to both brand new shooters and experienced personnel. My only critique is that they don’t have any LE/military discounts.

They had a good gun selection for sale, and a great ammo selection. The range lanes were short with a decent selection of guns to rent, I didnt see any fully automatic firearms... The range was cheap for lane rental but you can only shoot .22 in long gun...

Prices are reasonable but not great. I believe they still offer free range time for people who buy handguns. Great selection on firearms, holsters, safes, and accessories. FFL fee is $30 I believe. Staff is knowledgeable.

Bobs is my local gun shop & range. Ive been going there for six months and I know just about everyone there on a first name basis. As a single woman new to shooting I felt very intimidated when I first went there but the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Great place.

Checked out the website which stated they were open Sundays from 12-6pm. So I called 4 times and never got an answer I thought they may be busy. So I called 2 more times and It said for Guns press 1 and ammo push 2 after following the prompts I pressed 2 and the recording said mailbox full ( CLICK) called again to see if ammo shop was just busy and got same message at gun counter. IF YOU DONT WANT THE CUSTOMERs THEN PUT THAT ON YOUR PAGE. BTW Drove by at 240 and they were closed( WHAT A SURPRISE) IF u R worried about getting the virus then say so on your recording. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME been there so many times in the past and that is how it will remain I won’t return

Great place you can get just about anything for your firearms, or buy about any kind firearms. All kinds of ammo for about any weapons. The firing range is only for hand guns unfortunately no rifes. Helpful friendly staff.

My wife wanted a NEW gun. She wanted a Walther p22. She knew what she wanted Mr. Salesman/super security police man SEAL special force man. Thank God he was there that day to sell us a gun. How do you find the time? He then struggled to throw his leg up on the counter to show my wife where his cat scratched his leg or he was shot with a 22 or something...and that why you should buy a 1911. Then he gave us a brand new broken gun that, like fools, we did not fire till a few days later. When we returned to return the clearly used gun, the same salesman remembered us and explained how we were just dumb amateurs and that the safety was on. It only took 3 weeks for them to agree that, yes, it was a used gun and ordered us an actual new one. Thanks for the great time though. Looking back it was funny watching did get his leg up that high.

Bobs Gun shop by far is one of the best in NORFOLK, VA. The staff is extremely helpful and attentive. Also, they dont leave you hanging when you walk in as if you mean nothing to them. Everytime I have visited the place i was able to get attention ASAP even when they have more than usual people in the place. The prices are reasonable. I will be back👌🏽

The red haired lady that works in the ammo department most of time is somewhat snotty, but on a whole the employees are helpful and polite. Bobs has a really nice inventory of guns and when you purchase a firearm you get a punch card worth $100 of free range time which is a better deal than you will find anywhere else. Their prices are not the lowest in the area, but they have a very liberal layaway plan service if you need to use it. They dont seem to sell too many used firearms. From what I can tell, the used selection they do have is sold on consignment so unfortunately the prices may reflect as such. If you are considering getting youre CCW permit you may want to take the safety course for it at Bobs. I decided to take their safety course and thoroughly enjoyed the class. The process to get my permit was pretty much hassle free in Norfolk. Whether you are a new or seasoned gun owner, Bobs is a good place to be. I really havent been disappointed as of yet.

Since 1998 I have purchased 4 pistols from Bobs. Prices are around the same as other places but the reason I like Bobs is for there range and ammo shop. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. The wife and I always enjoy our time there.

The people are nice enough. Easy secure parking in a moderately sketchy area of town. All in all its just another big gun shop though it is clean, well lit and well organized. Sales staff is reasonably engaged though seemingly a bit bored. That’s understandable as I’m sure they get the same questions dozen of times a day. Interacting with generally uninformed customers (yes, I eavesdropped in a few conversations)can get tedious.Most of the prices were in line with what Im seeing at other gun shops except when compared to superior pawn which has much more competitive pricing. Their knife prices however are great! Ive got nothing bad to say about this organization but nothing spectacular either

First entering the building the guy on the third floor was pretty nice and making me and my partner comfortable.. When leaving he came and snatched the gun in a rude way, I thought maybe he was joking.. But he was weird at the end.. He made me very uncomfortable but the overall experience was great! I would def go again..

Until your employee learns how to respect customers you will not do business here ! My sister was degraded in front of customers. She has reached out to the owner on Facebook and via email no response. We do not tolerate this type of behavior here !!!!

I bought a membership for the range in order to make reservations any time I want. The range can typically have a pretty long wait time outside of middle of the day during the week. Ive had questions answered by several of their staff who have all been very helpful and understanding. Range is a bit small and older than others in the area, but you cant argue the price and location.

First time in a gun shop a few years ago and it was here. Bought my first firearm from a very friendly and knowledgeable gentleman. He was patient and explained everything. Have not had the opportunity to use THIS gun range though...

I went there two weeks ago looking for a particular holster and was told to call back in a couple weeks. I did call and they informed me that they had them in stock. I drove from the oceanfront to buy one to only find out that the sales representative gave me wrong information. This was truly frustrating to say the least and I would’ve given in a no star if that was an option. If they wonder why they will start losing customers they don’t need to think too long about it. Customer service should be paramount!

Have purchased 3 different weapons here. Always good attitude and help from staff, however, all three times the background check took a little long for as advanced as technology is now.

Pretty damn good gun shop. They have a great selection of guns, knives, and accessories. As with most places their prices have inflated lately but not quite as much as others. Plus the staff is helpful and knowledgeable.
