I’m so glad the old owner sold this fabric store. He was a miserable awful person, as evident in the older one star reviews from past years. The new and improved Banksville has become a place of wonder and magic for creative sewists in lower Fairfield county. It is finally welcoming and positive again! The new owner is amazing, and she very clearly loves her job. The staff is happy again. Could not recommend this place more! If you’re reading this and you went to Banksville and had a negative experience under the miserable old owner, please give them another chance!
This store is like a fairy tale and a dream come true! The MOST BEAUTIFUL fabrics!! It’s like a museum of beauty!! The wools!! The silks!!! The buttons!!!And the nicest people!! It’s really spectacular!!
Gorgeous and quality fabrics at much better prices than most fabric stores. Huge apparel selection, also upholstery, and knowledgeable staff.
Great fabric..good prices...excellent service. Have been going there for over 25 years.
New management, vastly improved selection and new items in 2020. Stunning high end cotton fabrics, high-end pillows at reasonable prices and more. If you havent been to Banksville recently ... stop by. Also, for the month of January theres a great sale.
Friendly, helpful staff. Lots of choice of fabrics
Banksville saved the day! Several weeks ago I was having difficulty finding cotton fabric to make face masks. Everywhere I looked fabric was selling out or stores were closed. But at Banksville, I was able to select my fabric through the window without having to go inside the shop and was able to get exactly what I wanted. In addition, all heavy cotton fabrics were priced equally, so I even got a discount on several yards. Thank you Banksville, I will certainly be returning in case of a sewing emergency!
It is increasingly difficult to find a fabric store with a large selection of upholstery fabrics, outside of designer and furniture showrooms. Although I dont live nearby, I have found that Banksville is worth the trip when looking for fabrics for reupholstery and pillows. The service is excellent and the owners have a wide knowledge of their inventory. Dont be shy about asking for help, as there are many more bolts of fabric than shown in the front room and the staff knows the inventory well enough to go seek out bolts that might fit your needs. The prices are very competitive.
I was in the Norwalk area and decided to Google the fabric stores in the area. I am so glad that I did. What a hidden gem!! They have the most beautiful fabric, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. I love their selection of 4-way cotton Lycra, Rayon and Lycra Knits, Italian Prima Cotton, and Chiffon. I understand that you can order online and they will ship, but it was definitely a treat being in the store. Additionally, the staff is very friendly and beyond helpful.
Ive been going to Banksville for years, and only ever had positive experiences with the owners and employees. They are lovely, and very helpful. They treat you the same if you are a professional or just a hobbyist. It is by far my favorite fabric store, because of their huge selection, reasonable prices and helpful staff. This place is the real deal. One of my favorite parts of a sewing project is starting out with the trip to Banksville to get the supplies!
How I love this store. There used to be a bunch of fabric stores in Connecticut but over the years they have disappeared one by one. This store has a knowledgeable staff and a wonderful collection of high quality fabrics for home or dressmaking. The prices are very good too for what you are getting. If you sew, this store is a must to go to, you wont regret it.
Great selection, wonderful people!!
Nice fabric store. Great for quilters. Reasonable prices. Notions, buttons, fabric books. Helpful staff.
Great place! If you looking for any kind of fabric its a PLACE! New manager make this store super!
This is the best kept secret in CT! The staff is incredibly nice and helpful and their fabric selection is out of this world!I sincerely cannot understand either why people are posting such bad reviews. I am a VERY LOYAL customer and a fabricholic and I have nothing but the best experience with these people.
Best location to find beautiful material to make curtains or tablecloth, especially around the Holidays. The staff is very helpful in finding particular fabrics. They also have a nice selection of buttons.
I found the gentleman who assisted us to be professional and very helpful in selecting silk material to match my outfit. Banksvilles selection of fabrics and buttons is amazing. I shop in RI, CT and NY and their silk quality and prices are the among the best Ive found.
I cant say enough good about the help I have received through their swatching service. These people were passionate about sewing and my particular project. They listened well and sent me the most wonderful swatches that fit my requests spot on. I have used them several times and have always been more than pleased with the service and the swatches sent. The turnaround time is quick, too.
Despite the mixed reviews, I decided to give Banksville Fabrics a try. There were only two women working and a lot of people coming in looking for assistance, so I can see some peoples frustrations. That being said, I waited under 5 minutes for my turn and had a very good experience! Both salespeople were knowledgeable and helpful in guiding me to the perfect fabric. Ill definitely go back.
Wow, so many fabrics. I did not want to leave. The prices are fair and there are many ranges of fabric quality and styles.
I have been visiting Banksville since 1994 and have always found the owner and staff very helpful. This is where you go for fabulous fabrics at fabulous prices.
Holy Cow, What miserable people.I thought it was convenient that this fabric store was open on Sundays, but its not worth it. Its just like any fabric store, except that the staff really hate their lives. They treat you as a burden for even walking in. They huff and puff if you ask them anything.I wouldnt go back if you paid me, quite frankly Im shocked the place is still open. They must be running some sort of backroom casino or cockfighting ring.Count me out.
I get so inspired by the fabrics! Help is always provided. I dont always like waiting for it, but, its worth it.
Beautiful fabrics you find all your sewind needs but very disappointed w customer service they dont say hello or how can i help you and if they are w another customer you can wait hrs there before they say i be right w you iam assisting a customer so sorry to say but i wont be going there no more
I was last at this store about 6 years ago-I bought what I went in to get and whilst waiting to be checked out the saleswoman behind the counter was helping another and being really thoughtful- suddenly a man behind the counter is so rude to her- tells her that she needs not to be talking to customers so much,he continues, he is abusive and nasty and just evil. I was so moved emotionally in such a horrific way that when I left the store I called and spoke to the salesperson-I was crying and devastated (it isnt fun to watch another human being demeaned in front of a store filled with people- uncomfortable for them -she assured me she was alright and that as I mentioned I hoped she wasnt married to him- as that would have made the situation worse- to have abuse at home and at work. She said she wasnt married to himAnyway, today I was trying to think of a fabric store for a small job at work and part of me wants to go back and check on her and part of me wants to go anywhere else- 6 years on and that scene still moves in in a downward spiral sort of way.
Last time we went in here was 20 years ago and the staff was so mean to my mother, she cried. Of course this was after she spent $1000. in there, processed the sale and wouldnt let her return the fabric as she wasnt interested in their business. So I went back last week and they were so rude to me, there were no customers in the store, but two employees. They didnt welcome me into the store, or offer to help. When I asked a question, they gave me a one word answer, no eye contact and walked away. Sure they have nice stuff, but there are other places to shop. I wont return, maybe again in another 20 years.
This is a great fabric store staff is very knowledgeable, and friendly.
I cant agree with Lauren D any more. They are the rudest people ever especially THAT BITTER OLD QUEEN! He was whispering about me to his assistant while I was in their tiny store. Thank God they have each other because they are running out of customers. Plus their quality is really lacking. Go to the city youl find way better quality at B&J or Mood.
We rushed to get to this shop before closing after spending 10 hours on the highway during a vacation road trip and I wasnt even spoken to as the owner fawned over another couple who entered at the same time. They used up all the time left and the owner half heartedly spoke after they left informing me he was about to close. All summer, I looked forward to shopping there to re-do my entire Victorian farmhouse. I literally left in tears. Also, it was not what I remembered...hardly any Ralph Lauren....mainly dated and tacky choices. Ill definitely go to Forsyth Fabric in Atlanta instead for my home re-do!! Sorry I wasted my time in this tiny pretentious shop waiting for Bob Barker to notice me!
This shop has the nicest staff and an AMAZING selection of fabrics. And their hours cannot be beat!
Amazing selection of fabric, buttond, and more but just 1 person working on a Saturday so the wait was too long and I had to leave without getting what I needed. Go on a weekday!
Larry was very friendly helping me find buttons!
This is the best fabric store in Connecticut, hands down. If youre not headed into NYC for the Garment District or the Lower East Side, this is the place to be.The staff is very helpful and give great advice. I cant imagine where all the complaints on these reviews are coming from. I have been to this store on countless occasions and have always had a wonderful experience and have observed nothing but expert advice and attention for others, whether someones a newcomer to sewing and needs help with a zipper, or whether the customer is a couture seamstress looking for something specific. The shop mostly deals in higher-end fabrics, such as Irish linens, Italian suitings, designer overruns and the like. You will not find great bargains here, but you might ask for a discount if youre buying a lot. They have a small selection of trims and notions - not really the place for such things - but ask if you dont see what you want. The swatching service is also good, and their are seamstresses affiliated with the shop if you choose to have someone else do the work.
I was needing materials and ideas to make pants for people with Elephantitus in Uganda. I was helped and advised for my project and got a discount because of the work Im doing .Very grateful, Eva L
Staffs are very nice and they are very knowledgeble about fabrics they sell.
Fabric selection of epic proportions and a charmingly helpful staff.
Needs more staff................
